One of the key themes here has been the carelessness and ineptitude of those in charge of crafting U.S. foreign policy. I’m not naive, and I fully understand that the world is a dangerous place. Just as I believe individuals should have the right to defend themselves and their families with the right to bear arms, I also understand the importance of strong national defense.
The problem with current U.S. foreign policy is that it is not defensive in nature. Rather, all indications are that the U.S. government is acting offensively; primarily driven by ego and the will to dominate. Much of the world has come to see the U.S. not as a powerful partner, but as a narcissistic master. What American leadership fails to understand, is that by taking such a posture it is simply making others overseas feel paranoid and threatened, thus drawing them closer to each other and farther from the U.S.
The examples of U.S. foreign policy disaster since 9/11 are many, and I have listed several of them at the end of the post. However, the one I want to highlight today is the ongoing slow motion train wreck with regard to Russia.
As readers will be well aware, the U.S government has been attempting to apply severe pressure on the Russian economy in an attempt to weaken Vladimir Putin’s position at home, and ultimately topple his government. It is now clear that this strategy has completely failed. To make matters worse, the “strategy” has merely solidified the view amongst emerging powers of the need for a counter to U.S. aggression. Nowhere can this be seen more clearly than with the increasingly close relationship between Russia and China.
To summarize, not only did the U.S. foreign policy clowns’ strategy fail, it has actually served to weaken the American position considerably by bringing potentially dangerous geopolitical rivals closer together.

The 102 Chinese troops who will join the Victory Day parade in Moscow on Saturday were seen during a rehearsal this week marching through streets near Red Square singing the Russian wartime ballad “Katyusha”, according to video footage posted online.
The only other foreign countries with troops in the parade are India, Mongolia, Serbia and six former Soviet states.

Three Chinese navy ships also made a rare foray into the Black Sea on their way to join commemorations in Russia’s southern port of Novorossiysk on Saturday.

Both sides say the drills aren’t directed at other countries, but the timing, after Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, and the location, on NATO’s southern flank, have compounded Western concerns about an emerging Moscow-Beijing axis.

Last year, Moscow and Beijing staged joint naval exercises for the first time in the East China Sea, where China is embroiled in a territorial dispute with Japan. In September, Mr. Putin and some of his troops will join a military parade in China to mark the anniversary of Japan’s defeat in 1945.
The Pentagon says China is also now pursuing a new joint design and production program with Russia for diesel-electric submarines, which could be used to try to prevent U.S. ships from intervening in a conflict in Asia.

At the present time, I am still unable to believe in any other realistic outcome to the current escalating conflicts than that everyone loses. There is nothing remotely close to human beings thinking differently enough about their chronic political problems to resolve those in sufficiently better ways.
By and large, most better informed people who post comments on Zero Hedge approve of those other countries who are attempting to resist the international banksters, and wish that the USA and other NATO countries could do that too. However, those resisting countries, as well as those within NATO countries that wish they too could somehow effectively resist, tend to all be reactionary revolutionaries, promoting old-fashioned ideas, rather than promoting the kinds of radical ideas which would theoretically be necessary for globalized systems of electronic monkey money, backed by apes with atomic bombs, to survive the contradictions of that being the actual situation.
We are on runaway paths towards developing computer/machine entities which are even more psychotic than we already are. Those computer/machine entities are not being developed in any ways that would go beyond manifesting many orders of magnitude worse forms of GI/GO. Human beings control their civilizations through the Garbage In of lies, and the Garbage Out of violence, as the history of civilizations built on being able to back up deceits with destruction, which morphed into enforcing frauds.

At three minutes to midnight it's easy to agree with you Rad. Using your 'stuck in the rut' analogy, it's a horrible feeling when your tractor sinks into the mud during spring planting. Not only have you created big ruts in your nicely cultivated field but you know by the time you get the tractor out the field will be a huge mess, the tractors caked in mud, and precious time and energy will have been wasted. I was watching the video of Putin's Victory Europe speech on the other thread and thought I saw Ban Ki Moon but figured I was mistaken because there was no mention of him being there in the article or the comments. That's interesting because Putin mentions the United Nations, international law, and modern threats in his speech. To me this was the core message. The UN is on the verge of it's final failure. Yeah, there was some celebration of victory day here with Mrs. M showing our daughter some videos and I thought that was pretty cool. I have seen most all of the WWII/Great Patriotic War footage so I went on Craiglist to check for free shit and low and behold I found the remnants of a garage sale for free. They had a file drawer in the pic and I need another file drawer and this was only three blocks away so I fired up the truck and went over to check it out.
Hell, that file drawer was in great shape so I was happy to load that up. Then I started looking for other stuff and I saw a pile of books and I love books so I started looking though the books. I am a numismatist but have dabbled in philatelics. I came across a book that said 1996 Commemmorative Stamp Collection. OK, that might be cool so I opened it up and guess what I found?... Yep, the actual mint set of stamps in the original packaging and nothing was wrong with them. The face value of the postage is $30.12 alone. Are you fucking kidding me?

I don't see the "..Glorious Union.." feminzed, BRA led, homo friendly armed forces being any sort of a challange to either Russia or China. The US thinks the next war will be all about its high tech and air superiority - something I think will not be the case in WWIII (which appears to be appraching sooner than expected). Russian and Chinese AF/tech are probalby at least as good as USSA's.

The celebrations in Moscow on the 70th anniversary of the surrender of Germany is notable for both the absence of any American presence (or even our own separate celebrations) but also for Russia's and China's failure to acknowledge the US logistical contributions in becoming the arsenal to the world without which the Red Army would have been forced back to the Urals or beyond.
Neither is their any mention that after the war, even as the Soviets and the Chinese became our implacable enemies, the US forgave the world over 90% of the debts owed us for all those ships and planes and tanks and trucks and tires and bullets and bombs they fought with, even though we could have easily used those debts as economic and political weapons that would have crushed their ability to trade with the rest of the world.
I'd suggest they pay us now with those stashes of gold they have accumulated but the assholes in Washington would just squander it bailing out the banks again. But hey if Germany has only just recently finished paying of the reparations from WWI and Greece is clamoring for WWII German reparations to cover for their decades of wasteful spending, why shouldn't we make our claims against all we provided the world by simply declaring a specific amount of the US debt paper they hold null and void?
Bottom line is Russians can't eat or make vodka out of oil and natural gas and the Chinese can't eat happy meal toys either. We can live without either but the Chinese can't keep their billion or so locked up in factories forever when we stop buying plastic junk and cheap tools at Harbor Freight.
