Armed Robbery In Midtown Manhattan Jewelry Store, Shots Fired

Tyler Durden's picture

New York's thieves are getting bolder.

After years without any violent crime in that mecca of hedge funds, midtown east, moments ago the NYC Scanner reported that there was an armed robbery in a jewelry store at 510 Madison where shots were fired (seemingly unaware that NYC is a gun free zone) and while 1 suspect was in custody two are still outstanding.

A quick google map check reveals that the "jewelry store" in question is likely the Tourneau store between 53rd and 54th which most financial professionals, not to mention tourists, in that part of Midtown have been to at least once.

It is unclear if the thieves were after a Rolex or Patek, or instead, an Apple Watch.

More as we get it.

Rumor has it that thieves made away with a Hublot Big Bang, which is a $500 Hamilton Jazzmaster dressed up in a gauche outfit, and sold for $11,500 (actually, they're being sold for 1/2 that now, fashion being fickle and all, but still are 20x overpriced).

What we need is more QE & ZIRP for Wall Street, so they can buy moar overpriced trinkets reflecting lack of knowledge about quality and display their philistine ways.

Get to work, Mr. Yellen!

this is the problem with jewelry: it is subject to theft

rather than having jewelry stored in .. well .. "stores", a much better idea would be to secure the jewelry in a central jewelry reserve

sort of a jeweler of last resort

people would not actually wear their jewelry, but instead would have receipts for their jewelry

the receipts could be physical pieces of paper, or preferably digital records of their ownership

Good thing NYC is a gun free zone.

Everyone is so much safer... well, if by 'everyone' you mean everyone who lives by taking the product of others' labor by force.

If 'everyone' means someone who works...well, not so much, no...in fact not at all.

If 'everyone' means someone who works, then, 'everyone' is who the thieves and taxmen (taxmen and taxmen?) want to be SAFE FROM.

Really, the NSA did nothing to stop this?  you do know there are more cameras and microphones per square inch, than any other place in the world, in that area?  Were they on coffee break?  Thank god for the gun ban in that area, the outcome could have been much worse, a criminal might have been hurt.

we finally had the dream space of .gov in america.  All video all the time and defenseless sheeple.  I guess they forgot to post the sign that said "this is a crime free area, no smoking, no guns, no sex".

P.S. maybe the robbers heard about the new 10 year tax free new business arraignment and decided to do a start-up.
