Kerry & Lavrov Hold Joint Press Conference After "Open, Friendly, Business-Like" Meeting - Live Feed
After what we are sure was a 'productive' day's discussion, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are set for a joint press conference... to explain how they have made-up, forgiven each other, and hugged it out (or not).
On the highest-level US visit to Russia since the conflict in Ukraine erupted in late 2013, Kerry first met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov for four hours in the Black Sea resort of Sochi before being welcomed by Putin at his seaside summer residence.
The two men warmly shook hands, before sitting down with a small team of staff at a long table.
At "a critical moment" for Ukraine, Washington is looking to ensure the "next steps in concrete implementation" of the truce deal, as well as to "see whether they [Russia] see an opportunity to do more together" in Syria, a senior State Department official said.
Kerry was also set to discuss Yemen and Libya and brief Putin on the negotiations on curtailing Iran's nuclear program. He was accompanied by chief US negotiator Wendy Sherman who will travel to Vienna on Wednesday for a new round of Iran talks.

Lawmakers in the United States Senate have thrown a wrench in a plan that would have given President Barack Obama “fast track” authority to advance a 12-nation trade deal between the US and Pacific Ring partners.
In a 52-45 vote on Tuesday afternoon, the Senate opposed moving forward for now on the Trans-Pacific Partnership. A procedural vote required at least 60 “ayes” in order to let the Senate host discussions on whether or not to give the president so-called “fast track” authority on the matter. Failure to reach that threshold puts the future of the trade agreement in jeopardy.

Russia's foreign ministry spokeswoman said Lavrov gave Kerry baskets of fresh tomatoes and potatoes, a possible allusion to Russia's decision last year to ban imports of European fruit and vegetables in response to Western sanctions.
He also presented Kerry with a T-shirt with "Victory" and "1945-2015", a reference to the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany. Western leaders boycotted Saturday's Moscow parade to mark the occasion because of its role in the Ukraine crisis.
Kerry gave Lavrov a leather portfolio, U.S. officials said.
Washington and Moscow are also at odds over the civil war in Syria, where Russia has backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad while the United States wants a political transition to end his family's 45-year-old rule.
While there have been no outward signs of a Russian reversal on Syria, U.S. officials hope recent defeats to Assad's forces may change the Russian stance.
Russia will support Syria to keep Arab gas out of Europe.
