To The Class Of 2015 – You Chumps!
By Bill Bonner of Bonner and Partners

To the Class of 2015 – You Chumps!
Gualfin (“End of the Road”), Argentina
Dear Diary,
A long, long time ago
On graduation day
You handed me your book
I signed this way“Roses are red, my love
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet, my love
And boy are we screwed”
– With apologies to Bobby Vinton
Last year at about this time, we waited for the phone to ring.
Not calling were thousands of universities in need of someone to give the annual commencement speech.
Every year, we prepare an appropriate graduation speech. And every year, with the unanimous accord of America’s institutions of higher learning, we do not give it.
With six children who have gone to college, we have heard more than our share of these speeches. They are almost always dull, embarrassing, earnest and trivial.
The University of Virginia had a TV newscaster. St. John’s College had socialist philosopher Cornel West.
We can’t remember the others – most likely because they had nothing memorable to say either.
Class of 2015: The Most Indebted in History
It is unlikely that we would ever be called upon to give a speech to graduating students. But if we were, we would say the following: Congratulations, Class of 2015: You chumps!
The Wall Street Journal reports that you are the most indebted generation in history.
The average graduate with student debt has a little more than $35,000 of it. The whole bill for student debt this year is expected to reach $68 billion – a tenfold increase over the last 20 years.
That may seem like a lot of money. And big numbers get reported in the headlines along with the celebrity news.
But student debt is like the foul smell of gangrene: It testifies to a deeper, inner corruption.
We are now 25 centuries after Pericles and Socrates. But today, the typical university has no more interest in learning than a rat terrier or a congressman.
Our government is a disgrace to honest democracy, if there were such a thing; it is a scam and a deceit.
Rich, powerful special interests wager billions of dollars on hollow puppet candidates, knowing their investment will pay off hugely if they are successful.
Our money system is an elaborate fraud, too. It steals from laborers, merchants and artisans and rewards speculators, insiders and layabouts. The entire system is sick and dysfunctional
But you probably have no idea what we’re talking about, because you’ve just spent the last four years of your life – and paid a fortune – so you could avoid learning about it.
Victims of the System
If you’ve studied the sciences or engineering (especially petroleum engineering, according to a study done by Georgetown University) maybe you’ll be able to earn enough to pay back your student debt.
But most of you have wasted your money with degrees in subjects that won’t help you understand the real world we live in or earn an extra dime in it.
Many of you have spent the best years of your lives… and borrowed a fortune… to learn things that aren’t true.
History, economics, government, politics – for every useful and truthful insight you may have learned, there are probably 100 more that were buried under claptrap.
There’s a big difference between the real world and the world of a college student. The real world is grittier, harder to understand, more cynical than you can imagine.
And it’s big.
The world of academia is much smaller. There are the well-defined limits of the school… the limits of the work… limits on student conduct.
There are also tests – and they are limited too. Generally, you know when the tests are coming… what they will cover… and what you have to do to succeed at them.
In real life, if there are any limits, you don’t know where they are. You never know when you’ll be tested. Often, you can be in the middle of a major test and not know it. You don’t know what you need to do to pass either.
And you surely don’t know this: You are being tested right now. You are now confronted with a problem you probably have never thought about. But it’s one that could ruin… or at least greatly impair… your entire lives.
You are victims of a system set up before you were born. The benefits of that system, such as they are, go to your parents and grandparents.
But you have to pay for it.
You’ll find it hard to keep up with the payments. As a result, it is unlikely you will be able to enjoy the material wealth and freedom of action that we, your parents, took for granted.
A Lifetime of Debts
You may know this already… but as economist Laurence Kotlikoff told the Senate Budget Committee in February, when properly accounted for, Washington has racked up more than $210 trillion of debt that you will have to pay… and pay… and pay for all your lives.
That is the money that will go to fund programs that were voted on before you were born.
It will also pay for retirees and sick people… people who your government sent to Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan to get their legs blown off… people who got sweet union contracts from their city and state governments… and people who have learned to game the system.
None of these bills are for things that you had any say in. Many of them were a waste of money from the get-go. Some were a curse. But – good or bad – you’re supposed to pay for them.
And that’s just the first toke…
Now, at least you are getting free of the education industry. Now, you can go out beyond the campus and take a deep breath in the real world.
But watch out, you may choke on the foul air…

Nope, the real suckers are the assholes who lent us the money, expecting to get it back.
go to junior college and then the state university. live at home with parents. you wont have any debt. fafsa will cover it all, if your parents dont make above middle class money (if your parents make that much, they can afford your $3000/semester tuition) and/or get a summer job and part time during the year.
no student should have debt...unless they choose to do so....in which case, they are stupid fucks.
Is it me or did i read this same **** a week ago, including the pic's.
'I don't care but i'm doubting my sanity.
Most of those "budget" degrees aren't worth the dookie paper you wipe your ass with.
The U.S. Diploma Mill scam is just the latest variation of a socialist paradigm: they pretend to educate us, and we pretend to learn.
Yeah, but they want REAL money.
"real" money....
some old greek guy once said
an education can not be bought nor sold
it must be earned..
i did a 7 yr. apprenticeship with a master craftsman
as he explained it to me ,when he turned me loose
choose your apprentice carefully
he should be able to take the work further than you have
you owe this to the craft..
now i am 42 yr. master of my trade, training an apprentice..
who is learning what he needs to know to succeed
recalhoun,
"no student should have debt...unless they choose to do so....in which case, they are stupid fucks."
A lot of one-parent or no (involved) parent students try to better themselves and strugglle their way through college, having believed what they were told about the value of a college degree, and go into debt in an effort to obtain a degree-- part of the desperate struggle to survive on limited resources. Many do not make it, and have nothing to show for their efforts but non-dischargable debt.
Your suggestion of "living at home with parents" seems really out-of-touch in a country where more than 50% of all marriages end in divorce, where child-support is often looked at as "fun-money" by many mothers and when that ends a father who cuts ties as says "well I've done my part!" How many kids these days are actually raised by responsible parents? And where can you find $3K a semister tuition other than at a community college?!?
specialize in genetically engineering underwater transgender basket weavers... and you're set
there's plenty of opening for chemical engineers at food companies. You can leave your morality at the door.
This is a ture fact. My daughter was given a room mate at her dorm. Random selection I gather. The girl was from a small rural town, she was 18 years old. Away from home for the first time. She went actually crazy the first few weeks. She turned her and my daughters dorm room into a sex shop. The girl fucked any and all comers. She screwed a different guy every night and day. My daughter gave up sleeping in the room and went to the lounge with a blanket and slet there. I found out that we were paying room and board money for her to sleep in a lounge! I swear this story is fact! I finally told my daughter to go up their claim her space and kick the shit out of her whore romm mate if she had to, I told her not to talk to administration, but to grow up and handle that bitch one on one.
The girl was pregnant within a month of coming to college, she left for home when she got the news she was having a baby. Her religion meant no abortion, so she went home to carry the pregnancy.
From what I heard, this crazy bitch was not alone in doing a complete sex crazed melt down. My daughter worked as a dorm RA and had to deal with similar things daily.
Yeah Jack, that sounds unfortunately common. Many, especially from small town shelter young men and women who have no idea how to handle themselves away from home. My freshman year (over 25 yr ago) I was randomly placed with a huge meathead wrestler/football player. He was dumb as shit but in his small town he was a big man. He thought the same would translate to college. He would cry himself to sleep because he wasn't bigman on campus, I moved out as soon as I could. Others get a credit card or check book for the first time and max it out/overdraft ASAP and go home. Others spend all of their loans on toys and not tuition. Others find alcohol or drugs for the first time and without mommy and daddy to monitor them go off the deep end and drop out. Or they fuck anyone due to low self esteem or daddy issues and drop out pregnant or mentally ruined. The list goes on and on. These kids parents failed them in a huge way, most 18 yr olds are not prepared for any sort of independence or responsibility.... We are so fucked.
You know, Jack, there is this thing called Mother Nature. The strongest drive in human females at that age is to get pregnant; they are simply desperate to but don't even understand that and no-one explains it to them. For all of human history until the 1970s, human females got pregnant when they were this girl's age, and paired up with a man; Nature has not caught up to our "wonderful" modern society. It's not "politically correct" to tell them that Mother Nature is screaming in their ears and that they have to take this into account if they want to "succeed" in the 20th century. Women who don't have that drive (eg. your daughter) don't pass on their genes. A real society has a means of channeling this drive, just like it has a means of channeling male aggression; we don't have a real society any more. To call her a bitch and a whore is just creepy old dude moralism; congrats; you've totally missed what's going on here. You should be commending this girl for not getting an abortion; even in her hormonally crazed state she managed to do a difficult but ethical thing. I can see why you resent this girl when your daughter isn't that way; you can see that the life force is dying out in your line. I'm guessing you've never read any Nietzsche. BTW, why do you have a little girl as your atavar?
i graduated in 1967, call me a chump too!.........ain't nothin changed Bitch, wtf...............
Something as per usual here doenst make sense. National AVERAGE all in for a year of college tuition books room and board, is over $30,000, x 4, or $120,000.
I do not believe that the average college students parents have brought $85,000 to the table.
What am I missing? Does this include Associates degree grads from JCs?
per google there are around 3.8 million grads per year associates or bachelors, again that doesnt even come close to tying to the number in the story of 68 B a year in debts for each year....
loser
We, the taxpayers, are the chumps when we will get stuck with all of the student loan defaults...
They can't default. Wait until they start garnising their social security which is already happening BTW.
Not yet but eventually.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-10/next-mega-bailout-deck-white-ho...
"a third of all student loans are likely to end up unrepaid!"
Soon just like the war on terror, QE, ect, the tax payer will be forced to pay for those trillions defaulted.
Most of that shit is going to get written off anyway. Already it's in the works to have it be dischargable in bankruptcy, that will probably happen in the next few years. These pay as you earn schemes will all grow too. That which can't be repaid , won't be. I regard this debt a fraudulent anyway. The government has no business in education generally, and in student loans especially. This will all just wind up being another trillion dollar mistake, part of a long list of other multi trillion dollar mistakes that we the tax serfs are expected to pay for our entire lives. This student loan bubble is but a symptom of our fraudulent monetary system that is on it's way out anyway.
The "economy" is so bad that the gubmint is depending on student loans just to keep certain communities afloat. Think about where the money comes from in,say,San Diego. Half the student loan money coming into San Diego goes to the Universities and colleges, which collectively constitute a good chunk of the local economy. This money is mostly paid out as salaries. It mostly gets spent locally. The other half is used for the personal expenses of the students. It also gets spent locally. Although most sheeple seem incapable of figuring it out, without the student loan programs, there would be a crater where San Diego used to be.
The terms of debt forgiveness might get better. I also think that parents are co-signers on a lot of this debt.
that's why the fucking bankruptsy laws were tightened up beforehand, so mom and dad could be included in the debt holocost!
I took a lot of flack from fellow parents when they heard I refused to cosign any loans. The " Good Parents Should do Anything to Help Their Children" speech fell of deaf ears. The suggestion my being solvent would be a greater help to them long term was dismissed as " paranoid" and " doomer". A number of them have lost their homes. I'm too gracious to gloat, some are having a very difficult time. However, not one has admitted I was right.
Miffed
Dear Leader Obama already socialized the student loan business. Dear Leader set the rules so that borrowers only have to pay a portion of the loan back - based on their income - then after X years it is up to the tax payers (slightly less than half of working people) to pay off the rest. The loan is dismissed for the borrower.
A few points:
1) If these "bright" young peoples would not take loans this wouldn't be an issue. (Many feel that it is better to voluntarily take out huge loans then shriek in horror about what the Jews did to you when you have to pay back what you borrowed. Morons.
2) If the government was not involved in the student loan business defaults would be rare. No loan organization would lend $200,000 for LaToucha to get a four year "degree" in Womyn's Studies.
3) Obama is a liar (OK, everybody knows that), stating that everyone needs a college degree to get ahead. Personally, I like it when my taxi driver has a PhD in history because it makes for better conversation. But in general, a PhD in anything is not required to drive a taxi.
4) Student loans are massive payouts to big teacher unions.
I agree. Most of these loans would not ever be made if they were actually dischargable in bankruptcy, which they should be. Bankruptcy is an essential part of capitalism. You should not be able to loan someone money and keep a gun to their head for their entire lives. The government knows many of these loans wouldn't ever get repaid, that's why it doesn't allow them to be discharged in bankruptcy. No one in their right mind would loan some brain dead hoodlum a bunch of money for their women's studies major if they could just graduate, declare bankruptcy, and move on, ergo the loans should never be made. Not making these loans would also serve to bring tuition costs back down to reality, and hopefully result in the laying off of thousands of useless eaters essentially feeding off these students and their loans.
Yeah, but they are not lending them "money" they are disbursing digital fiat credits of which there is an infinite supply. When you have a perverse monetary system such as this, fucked up non-nonsensical things regularly occur.
Yeah, the smart kids are born rich or they don't go to college and become paper pushers like many of the smelly foreskins on ZH. Face it, these kids are trapped and fucked. They either take the loans to increase their odds of a good career or they push a mower and work retail. The options are all gone for young people. So stop being such old assholes and show a little compassion!
Read GREENSKEEPERCARL's post just above. Get the govt out of it, and things come back into balance. Fair is a weather report, not a prescription for life. Tech schools, local Junior College, work/study programs, lower cost state colleges, all are alternatives to racking up huge debts. It takes desire, and determination, but certainly can be done, and many kids do it.
Compassion? Could these kids and their parents not figure out how much debt 1 year of college would create, then multiply by 4 to see how much they'd owe when done? Is this math too difficult?
It's not too difficult to determine job prospects post-graduation either. Things don't change too much over 4 years....
No sympathy from me.
Yep, and four years is optimistic with most of these kids. Think 5 years minimum.
"So stop being such old assholes and show a little compassion!"
No.
the government knows many of these loans wouldn't ever get repaid...
But, but, but what about moral hazard on behalf of the lenders? (Sarc)

The program is you pay 10% of your earnings over the first 10 years after graduation ,after that what ever the balance the loan is forgiven .
$68 billion isn't really that much, it's like what, two F-35's? Hell, pay their student loans and not jets? But then that would be scary socialism...
Exactly!!! And since military spending is about 20% of federal government spending while wealth transfers (vote buying) social programs are 70% of government spending it always makes sense to leave the large spending alone, or better yet, drastically increase it, while cutting the smaller portion. Especially when much of the 70% goes toward letting people not work and lounge around all day selling crack here and there. We are the smart ones!!!! Yay us!!!
"$68 billion isn't really that much"
My first thought also.
"The whole bill for student debt this year is expected to reach $68 billion – a tenfold increase over the last 20 years."
Whoopie diddle. We watched Bernanke print $85B a month for months on end. So total student debt for the entire country is less than one month of QE from the central bank.
Socialism for the banks/insurers/corporations - usury for the masses.
You're saying it's fair for my tax money to pay off some random people's loans? Exactly why is my money supposed to pay for someone else's educational choices again?
Well hell's bells, 300 million isn't that much. Less than one dollar for every person in the US. Everybody should give me one dollar just because I said it was good and it would really help me out. If we're going to be making unfair demands, might as well just say it straight up.
The dumb ones are the ones actually paying back the loans.
"We, the taxpayers"
Who are you kidding?
This system is so far past broke the CONfidence is no longer even there but also propped up.
93+ million NOT working.
OVER 50% of those who have a job work for some aspect of Government.
And that is NOT even taking in the BULLSHIT make believe monetary system some hold dearly, where everything is smoke and mirrors.
It's not what you know. It's who you know.
Its now who you know its who you blow.
Lobbyists know exactly what you're talking about. Congress on the receiving end.
It's actually more like a 69 if you think about it. A sort of Ouroboros of corruption, but with two snakes, instead of one.
Fuck all this. I don't pay taxes. Fuck taxes.
If you pay taxes then you are the chump!
Besides, the system will soon fall apart. You think the IMF or Fed or whoever the fuck will be able to make everyone pay their fiat debts?
HA! I'd like to see an armed guard moving through the US demanding loan payments on education. It would be a death sentence for the agents that chose to follow orders. Also, how will they be paid? Armies only survive if they are being paid, and when the dollar ain't worth shit there will be no army.
So rack up that debt college kids. Drink booze get laid, and become the duchebags that you're fathers became years before. Live the status quo untill it falls apart.
PS this author better not have gone to colllege or he is a hypocrit.
HA! I'd like to see an armed guard moving through the US demanding loan payments on education.
I think you'll get your wish. The NSA knows who you are. Hopefully, you don't pay taxes because you don't make any money.
Traditionally, tax collectors got paid from a percentage of what they collected. Today we call this "incentivization". The soldiers who went with the tax collectors got a percentage of his percentage. Thus, they were incentivized to help the tax collector in every way.
I went to an interesting talk by this guy the other night. He said that in order to change a system, the change has to start in the paradigm shift. True dat, but I thought, but what if the Man has coopted all the paradigms? HAARP, the Fed, Monsanto, the MIC, the IMF, the WHO, vaccines, the Gates Foundation, etc, it's a global web of paradigm lockdown. The only place to go is down, inside, smaller, more local. If they outlaw cash, then people have to find a way to live without cash, but without identifiable Fed credits as well. That's a paradigm shift.
The lenders care not how much or to whom they loan since the taxpayers will get stuck with all the losses. They just pocket the gains and commissions and move on.
No. 9, this is my point - tax collectors in the USA will be shot at the front door by one of hundreds of millions of Americans when they say they are there for that purpose. Don't think we won't use our arms.
They will use theirs too, and they have more and better ones. You first.
You may not be paying income taxes (like over half the country) if you don't have reportable income, but you probably are paying sales taxes unless you barter exclusively. You won't pay property taxes if you don't own property, but you may be paying your landlord's property taxes if you rent.
You can't escape death or taxes.
Changing the system starts with changing oneself in line with what you desire to happen on the systemic level. The first level is awareness, the second stage is action. Become the change you want to see in the world. With the multiplier effect, with many people doing the same, that becomes a paradigm shift.
There is an information war out there over level 1 - awareness. The propaganda narrative of the mainstream is in full force trying to spread fear, misinformation and outright lies to prevent any meaningful change to the cash cow system in place that benefits them and their cronies.
We of course, can see through their bullshit and laugh at their shitty work. But apparently, alot of people still fall for it. We have some work to do.
Most excellent! These bozos have overstepped, are at odds with each other, can be set upon a feeding frenzy against each other. The technology and tools are in place for the biggest reversal in history!
This all started right about the time when Michael Milken started Knowledge Universe......
Hummmmm.
The parents of those kids will be surprised to know that some of their daughters will be selling their ass to pay off student loans.
Lots of college girls strip. It's always been that way. Nothing has changed. And what is $35,000 today compaed to $10k a couple decades before? Inflation is real. Look at food, gas, housing. It's all more expensive. What's the author want? EVeryone to live off the land?
HA!
Look at the cost of any "consumer" product or service throughout the Great Recession. They all went down. Even healthcare costs to a slight hit. College costs continued absolutely unabated and unaffected in their geometric rise.
I graduated Villanova in 1990. Even then I was questioning whether the costs were worth the benefits. Tuituion was about $14-15K my senior year, if memory serves. Now it's $62K.
Aside from a small select few (who would likely be successful even if dropped naked and penniless in the middle of Bosnia), nobody's earnings stand any chance of keeping up with the cost of college. It's not "inflation" (which it far outstrips any measure of anyway). That would imply it's driven by market forces of supply and demand. But it's not.
It's driven by the fact that the government will pay (loan you the money) no matter the cost. You see, they win both ways. College IS the hub of their idealogical power. You are indoctrinated into it and then you spend the rest of your life paying them back for that indoctrination as their debt slave.
'They all went down'?? LOL!!! Virtually every consumer "product" from the chinese crap at Target to college tuition went up substantially.. Everything from Clothing ,cars, TV's to laptop computers cost significantly MORE now than in 2008..
Are you one of these limosine liberals who lives on the Upper West Side or on Park Avenue in Manhattan?? And this bleeding heart crap that we read about these 'poor millenials' (with their $150 monthly Iphone Bills) gets literally sickening after a while. Of course the 'thugs' (minorities) know how to work the system and scream racism over every single slight either real or perceived
soul glow, just another writer doing another bitch session about life. you are correct to point out that $10k student debt 20/30/40 years ago was just as huge a mountain to climb as the current student load. seems more and more of the authors live in some sort of bubble and know nor see any relationship with real life, past present or future.....endless inflation eating away anything and everything. an article written in a complete bubble...hope his fustrations have been worked out....lol
>>$10k student debt 20/30/40 years ago was just as huge a mountain to climb as the current student load
i beg to differ. i graduated in 1991 and all in (tuition, room and board, meal plans) I think I shelled out $30k or $7500 a year. i worked during the summer months and other breaks and made $13 an hour and was able to earn about $6,000 a year. I carried some debt but after school was over I had maybe $7k in debt. contast that with today where the same school is over $100k a year or 3x what it costs me. where am i going to earn 3x or $39 an hour as a college student? college is much less affordable today given what you can earn to offset the costs than 20 years ago.
Yeah the author sucks balls.
bonner states he sent 6[six] children thru college. yet doesn't say if he/they used any available loans...scholarships...gifts, etc. yet he than quotes from that rag of oligarch virtue the wall street journal, thats rich. then goes on to insult the current students calling them "chumps" and "victims". do those apply equally to his children? one has to ask if mr. bonner is worried that some how his childrens degrees are worth less as more people take advantage of all the resources available to them. we have a grandaughter that is graduating this june from high school. she wants to be a nurse. she and her mother were looking at jr. college to start. we have one of the top medical schools 10 miles down the road...top five to be exact. we all believed that this school was out of reach until i went onto their website and crunched their tuition program...costs, scholarships etc. it looks like that $60,000 a year cost will end up costing only aprox. $28,000 total in loans after four years. we have agreed to pay for one year and mom/dad have agreed to pay for one year....that leaves aprox. $14,000 in loans, hell that's less than the average car loan. than again, it also pays to be your high school soccer team's leading scorer and on the dean's list all four years. i was shocked when the school said they would give her a scholarship and forgive tuition of up to $20,000 a year if she goes there. no, bonner looks like just another crybaby looking over his shoulder making sure the pitchforks and torches are coming down the street.......
Excuse me for telling the truth, but I graduated 25 years ago with 10k in student debt. It was effortless to pay it back. It was a 25% of my first year's salary. Compare it to now, on that basis.
" What's the author want? EVeryone to live off the land? "
It's what we're going to be reduced to, regardless of what the author wants. GTFO if you're on the coasts or in places like Chicago.
I'm in Oregon. It's nice here. But don't move here. We don't want you.
:)
You wouldn't like it anyway...rains every day...and there's no "cultural diversity", which is boring. Yep. Stay home.
LOL, folks in Oregon stand a chance. I wasn't specific enough. Get away from urban places that will be fucked when supply chains break. That's generally associated with the coasts. I'm too close to an urban area for my own comfort, but we may pull through here due to there being a lot of agriculture in the state. If not, I have plans to GTFO to some pretty remote and unknown areas.
Oh, and don't come to NM either. We're a desert. We only have enough water for ourselves.
The most pathetic is white college boys cheering thugs at ball games. The whites go into debt for life and the thugs get a free ride. Idiots. Sames goes for alumni retards cheering thug ball.
Only thing I can say about that is, THAT'S where all the pootie is in tight orbit... So, if that has value to anyone, "Where's the joy in your life Freddie"?
Except the thugs end up with concussions and broken backs. They also get the answers to tests, never study, and after they graduate have no education and end up working minimum wage.
Everyone loses!
So fucking what?
In the Roman Empire, these same thugs, as Gladiators, probably got maimed & killed... The difference is, the thugs nowadays [supposedly] have a choice... They're NOT SLAVES who are forced to fight & die in the arena... They have a choice in the matter... If they decide to pursue fleeting glory & riches at the overwhelming probability of destitution, I have no problem with that... Furthermore, I have no problem with the 'merchants' of that system... The fact that it has taken foothold in the university system is sad, but it is what it is...
& syaing that 'EVERYONE LOSES' is debatable...
There are many who 'profit' from this enteprise:
- from the universities themselves
- network television
- goalseekers
- to friggin Buffalo Wild Wings & Hooters (waitresses, patrons)
- merchandisers
- FANS (whose miserable lives are only made tolerable by bread & circuses, & whereby one could argue that becoming a 'heroin addict' as a different escape could, on balance, be considered worse)
- fantasy sports players (which I acknowledge is useless, but it's an extension of the 'bread & circus' theme)
I mean, FFS... One could also argue that if you ELIMINATE 'bread & circuses' altogether, we could actually make things BAD ENOUGH to reach the point of TOTAL REBELLION... But whom would that really satisfy?... Oh sure, it would satisfy a bunch of ZH readers... It would satisfy them all the way to the point that the TOTAL REBELLION shut down the internet and forced us into the DARK AGES again... Whereby they wouldn't have a cozy forum to type their gripes on a keyboard & satisfy their own preening need to feel like they were making a difference...
I'll get a lot of junks by 'PURITANS' for this comment, but, BUYER BEWARE... I'll guarantee you all right now that the VERY FIRST endeavor that will rise up from the 'NEXT DARK AGES' will be the latest version of Gladiator games [whether they're on TV, or]...

I graduated from the University of the South Bering Sea, majoring in Hard Knocks, in 1985. King Crab biomass tanked in 1982... it was hard work for not very much pay. Just yesterday, I showed a newly minted college graduate how to reinstall an excavator track he managed to unspool while operating a machine he knew nothing about. Because he was under the illusion he was "educated", he went ahead and got himself in a bind. "Welcome to USBS", I told him, "The remote learning extension."

An American poster said:
...literally sound like chimpanezes"
If Uncle Sam put the focus on fostering a well educated and enlightened population by subsidizing and making education affordable for all (lets say a max of 2 degrees per person), instead of spending money on fucking pointless foreign wars and sponsoring all sorts of terrorists and coups, then it would be another story.
But its all about keeping a dumbed down, compliant, indebetd serf-like population in line....and the empire of chaos, imperialism and cock-waving uninvitingly in foreign lands to prove the American manhood.
Are we going to work towards an enlightened civilization or something straight out of the scripts of Idiocracy? Sadly, we all know the answer to that.
I almost agree, yet Uncle Sam hires asshole Professors to spit garbage and not teach but write stupid books while their students get drunk and not go to class.
But in a perfect world I agree with you, and I do agree about war spending.
The education system is far, far from ideal. But at least its better than none. Most people need some sort of structure to learn. Only a small minority are very highly self driven and able to self educate. If you can self-educate, do so. I've taught myself much more than I've gotten out of university. That's not to say university is not useful.
I frequently disagreed with my lecturers on many points (econ), found alot of the theory to be questionable, but some of it made sense and made me think, leading to a rabbit hole of further self learning. You still get marks for making your case and backing it up, if you disagree from the theory. I also studied mathematics and physics in another lifetime, which I loved. Science is great, because you can't weasel your way out of that...numbers don't lie like words do.
Its a game of course and you gotta be practical about it. But so are job interviews - they are all a game. I've learnt lying is very helpful there, it works well, if you dont stray too much with the bullshit and deliver confidently, definitely alot of room to be *creative* with your answers, all im sayin.
But with hindsight, university was one of the first stepping stones to opening my mind's eye. Funnily enough, the drugs also helped, and of course the awesome people you meet along the journey.
I'm now largely self educating and working towards a future of self employment.
We are reading on the same page. I went through major after major trying to find a study (econ was one and I tore up the lectures with questions pertaining to the oversight of the Fed etc) and I finally found philosophy. I learned to think, read, and write critically. Really pleased I majored in it.
The girls were also smarter in those classes on average so I didn't have to date sorority girls et al.
Obama was supposed to be post racial .... socialism was supposed to fix all that ails us ! LOL
The business of educating idiots and business is booming! ;-)
There are people in this country that have reached retirement age and are having their S.S. garnished to pay off their student loan debt.
Of course they are pissed off about it, but it just shows the how high a priority this debt is.
All debts are settled one way or the other at some point in time.
TPTB bubble blowers sure do plan ahead don't they?
Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Acthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bankruptcy_Abuse_Prevention_and_Consumer_P...
These kids didn't learn anything from their wise old elders. They should have gotten advanced degrees on how to commit FRAUD. That's all that's left. DUH! There's gonne be a big fight over who get's to pick your bones. Clash between SS recipients and "education" financial vultures on deck.
No one forced these kids to take out such loans... If they are too stupid to understand the terms before signing then they shouldn't be in college to begin with.
That's very true.
The creditor's well paid PR flaks who aggressively proselytized that without a college education they'd be doomed to poverty are going to say the same thing and have counted on you joining the chorus. I am willing to bet that *many* of these students will live to regret this and will not make the money described in the pitch. The biggest lesson they will learn will be the evil of debt and fraud.
Loans made without a reasonable expectation of them being paid back are predatory. Make enough of them and now you become too big to fail. This debt has been securitzed, financialized and hypothecated etc. with others profiting all the way through. You can be sure that there have been plenty of hedges and bets placed on it not being paid back, all of which will likely be bailed out at par. That means it will be QE'd out of thin air to be paid in the future with the money landing in the creditos pocket now.
That's why all this money was looking for people. Give money to people who don't have any under the guise of being helpful, then steal it all back later. Then, like you say, blame them for bieng reckless and not knowing better.
edit: they could say the same thing about ss/medicare/medicaid should have known better costs would spill over to not one, not two, but all subsequent generations
Riddle me this: Why are they too stupid to understand the terms? Why do they think that college is the only path forward? How dumb were you regarding the monetary system when you were 18? How many people, not just young kids, are too dumb to understand the terms of typical financial transactions that are de facto requirements of getting by successfully in today's society?
Forget college for a minute... my property tax bill was nice enough to inform me that 55% of it was going to the corrections officers (aka teachers and staff) at the local prison (aka high school).
Mine is more like 80%
55-80%. Those gyms are gold plated, or at least teach 'em to run, shoot, and steal better.
Well, some people like big buildings with little windows. It's the one thing I've been allergic to my whole life. That and bat guano. You go figure.
~50% of my state's budget goes towards education, and the education system hiere is seriously fucked up. It's like everything else. It's run like shit. There is petty politics, overbloated administrations who want glitz rather than well educated kids, and they treat the teachers like shit to the point where the ones who actually do give a shit about the knowledge they impart either aren't allowed to teach it properly, or they're jumping ship. We're going to be left with teachers who are there for the wrong reasons shortly. I've talked to a few people involved, and they've all come to the conclusion that I have: The entire system needs to collapse, because that's the only way forward at this point.
Collapse is necessary. I used to dread it, but now I grow increasingly impatient with TPTB, trying to keep things going another 30 days. Then another, then another.
I don't feel sorry for these slaves...fuck em - pay up losers. No one forced you to go to an over rated, over priced expensive, adult daycare college. Obama gave you access to these loans and he says you better pay up. You all love and worship him so obey. These are the same zombies who were in the street when obama "killed" bin ladin and waving USA flags - chanting USA USA USA! Well, the USA needs your payments to continue being #1 and killing all these terrorits - you fags pay up now - ya hear.
You might have a point if critical thinking was taught in high school or if there were decent jobs for high school graduates. As it is, we're bombarded with propaganda and Kim Kardashian's ass and the school system generally isn't that great. On top of that, the debt is in debt backed fiat, which is a fraudulent ponzi scheme anyway. These kinds have been propagandized and lied to all their lives. It is no wonder that they don't have their heads on straight.
Seek the truth it will set you free.....read your Bible. THere is no excuse - if I found it, so too can you
- P.S there are no decent jobs for college graduates, you'd be better off working right out of college with no debt.
Except that there are very few decent jobs right out of high school, and they're told that they need to go to college for employment. They aren't taught critical thinking, and they're told a big lie about how life is supposed to work. You can say "fuck'em" all you want, but it is the younger generations that tend to pick up arms when they realize that they've been lied to and get into the trenches. We helped make'em dumb, and just ignoring this and saying "fuck'em" is aksing for them to be enemies. Instead, let them learn the hard lesson that our ponzi scheme currency is going to teach them, then become guides. Never forget, they were born into the matrix, and few really stood a chance.
I am Gen X and do consider Millennials my enemies....they will go down so hard when this collapse starts - pussies. Not that my generation is that great, they are not - but they are 10 times better than this young generation
Also, I'm not worried about them picking up arms because they can't afford them, and even if they can they are too busy buying Iphones and apps - not only that but the "men" are too weak from feminseim to even shoot the guns or know how to use them, they may have "cool" facial hair but that doesn't mean they are men
No generation is great. We all let this bullshit happen, blindly. Mellenials are just the latest victims of it. They've been sold the idea that life is going to be skittle shitting unicorns and they've been kept dumb enough to believe it. It is unethical to automatically lable them enemies because of that when it is the bankers and oligarchs who are the real enemies. I don't give a shit if somebody is rich, but I do give a shit when they fundamentally own the government, especially when that government likes to claim a monopoly on force. But if you want to pick a fight with a generation that is going to be mighty pissed when they realize that there is no unicorn and the skittles are nothing more than bullshit, be my guest. When all hope is removed from the mellinials, their attitudes are going to change in a hurry.
Oh trust me, I know the real enemy are the bankers and elite but the mellenials make me sick. They actually worship thier captures. These pussies can't do anything right. Also, I think they will blame people like me for thier fall and they will worship satan when all is said and done.
You're delusional. This is divide and conquer. Not all mellenials are faggy little hipsters like the media portrays. You know, one of my best friend's sons just killed his first elk last year? 300+ yard shot with a 243. He's 10 years old. Maybe a little young to be considered a mellinial, but you should get the point. Besides, do you have any neices, nephews, frinds with millenial age children? Are you going to target them because they're mellinial? Because blood is thicker than water. The mellinials are going to be totally fucked because of what previous generations have done, or have failed to do.
LOL nope I don't have any neices, nephews, or frinds with millenial age children. Too bad so sad. They are going down. Obvioulsy I'm generalizing, there are excptions to the rule, but by and large they suck - I'm not going to be targeting anyone, but don't come to me for help you cna ask uncle Obama, he's got your back
Is it not a parent's job to raise their children right? If you think it is, and the entire mellinial generation sucks, who's fault is that? Not the mellinials. That's on Gen X (I'm Gen X,) and the boomers, for not raising their kids right and always asking for more and more government intervention. You are falling for classic divide and conquer. I myself did not do enough to stop the bullshit that is coming, and I fully own up to that. What did you do to stop the faggy little hipster culture? More importantly, what did you do to stop the everything must grow so that banksters could skim and control us meme? Not enough? Well then, you're no better than the melinnials. None of us are, because none of us stood up to stop this.
Too bad, so sad.
Idiocracy in full swing now.

Yup, this is exactly what's going on. We're living inside a giant bank. It's a crime scene of getting everyone and their brother and their kids and even their dog ( true, my dog, Buddy, got a credit card offer addressed to him a few years ago) into deep debt. WE DONT NEED THEIR STINKING DEBT!
College does leave them with a very important real life lesson. Probably the best lesson of them all. Everyone is out to get your money. Class dismissed!
especially those that insist they're only trying to help.
Sorry it is a repost, but fits the article:
Globalism sold as beneficial to all may have a secret agenda to suppress problems with Economic Leakage, Monetary Leakage, or... Money flowing out of the Country(Economy) which reduces Velocity of Money Stock.
- Globalism Concept is supposed to lift all boats, but what if there is a huge flow of USD to Cheaper Economies??
I'm not saying that going Cashless in order to tax money in bank accounts (or charge NIRP)... or any other tax on households is an attempt to make up for lost Velocity of Money Stock, and... lost Leverage of Fiscal Policy and Monetary Policy... but the shoe seems to fit.
Think of Illegal Immigrants, other migrants who send money outside of the Economy, think of US Trade Imbalance, and think of International Investment in the USA where Wealth is Extracted from America. Then reflect a bit on Decapitalization of US Industries, Downward Pressure on Wages, and Capital Flight to Services & Production overseas.
I don't have charts on Migrants sending money to relatives, but this is a very old concept.
But here are some other back up charts on Monetary Leakage, Economic Leakage, Velocity Leakage:

Bill Clinton & George W. Bush years were Cruel.
What can we conclude here??
There was a Coup in the 1980 Election where among other things we put a CIA Director/Military Establishment/MIC Industry Expert in the White House.
Certainly there was a Coup.
Yes, the USD is a ponzi scheme. All debt backed fiats are. This has got to be the biggest scam in human history.

You have to think about what's best for .gov. Total control over the individual. Debt isnt a perfect solution. Instead, why not set up a system where permission must be obtained for things like: (a) a career; (b) an education; (c) a life partner; (d) place of residence. That way, if you post unflattering comments on ZH, .gov will be able to tell you you are going to be educated in busting rocks in a trailer down by the river. And your very horny tranny life partner (with an equally impressive schwantz) will be along shortly to comfort you.
Gov: +1
If you post unflattering comments on ZH, .gov could just charge 20% interest on your student loans. LOL
I think most students are majoring in tweeting and twerking these days. I know for a fact most don't not know how ot multiply or add.
Wages and total employment never kept up with prices (since Reagan) and tax withholding required to fund spending and SSI failed. A Nobel Prize in Economics went to the guru that explained that the young spend more and the old save more--they think they'll make more next year than this year--the old don't. That's right, Obama hasn't fixed it but, he didn't invent the web of hypocritical capitalists that depend on government spending while crying, "Socialist in the house!"
Since Reagan?
You must be too young to remember the WIN buttons...
Jimmy Carter, LOL.
And no, I don't remember those, but I actually did hear about them in a history class once upon a time.
EV, it was Ford. Circa 1974.
They didn't work...
Well, it was before my time. But I actually did hear about the "Whip Inflation Now" buttons in a history class, and I also heard that they didn't work. IIRC, their failure would have had something to do with faith only being a part of the monetary system, not the whole shebang. While faith in the currency is vital to it not going to its intrinsic value, real goods still have move from points a to b.
Your education was a hustle run by liars. They extracted money from your parents with taxes/tuition and will extract more in the future from you. You were Pavlovian trained to emote to their words/ideas. You were trained to be a loyal slave to the State. Once your parents loved you and you loved them. Now your neo-parent, the State, loves and thinks for you.
Thanks suckas. Your neo-owners demand your love.
True Story. Stopped by the library when visiting my alma mater. Needed some help using the copy machine. Student worker came to assist me; Casual chat veered into Glaring at me because when he graduated he was going to work in "housing for the poor." The Sanctimonious Communism being taught at colleges is astounding; these kids all have their bellies full and don't have a clue that the rest of the world would gladly thrown them off a cliff and take what they have.

Usually mommy & daddy are paying the bill (as well as giving their 25 year old spending money plus money to cover rent) well after graduation since these days it is so socially acceptable.
Petroleum engineers are getting paid $150K right out of school.
Art History majors are paying to work lat I heard.
Educational system divorced from industrial social and economic policies and national investment strategies becomes simply an expensive instrument of control and propaganda indoctrination paid by a student (a victim) and his/her family and often unsuspecting taxpayer.
And these days, education itself as well as inflated by Wall Street educational costs collapse rather elevate standard of living of Americans, one way or another.
What I would recommend for commencement speech is after 4 or 6 years of lying some bitter truth for young careers that will likely end before they ever begin, that I found at:
https://contrarianopinion.wordpress.com/2015/03/19/education-blessings-o...
In the past, a high productivity and low debt United States economy was able to absorb art history and other worthless majors. Today, global competition and unrestrained debt make those majors find their true value ( a lot like the future of fiat)!
What you forgot to say in this article:
1. Look at what the presidents of the universities/colleges are being paid; the compensation and benefits are a pig pen of self-gratification, cars, housing, travel, soirees, paid for by your college student struggling to eat at Mickey Ds. Add to this the Imprisonment of our children with the twenty-year retirement program of govt employees and college employees and you have a real mess. NO ONE should be taking retirement at twenty years. My grandfather worked 45 years before he could take his retirement: he was a govt worker for the county.
2. STOP ALL immigration and visas, green cards. Why do you think our children can't get jobs? Duh!! California is a perfect example. 1970: majority white, great state to live in, great jobs, orchards everywhere. 2015: majority non-white, a cesspool of immigrants forced upon the American people to educate them about their "racism," which is indicated by the Success of this great nation. But hey, who knew that a giant drought would make things so much worse than anyone can yet imagine? But keep them immigrants coming until we are completely destroyed oh yeah...
3. In order to take the focus off of immigration and its cultural, natural resource, and demographic genociding of Your country, the NY Times has a nice long article by Adam Nagourney on why the blame has to go back to Jerry Brown's father. Ah yes, Anything to avoid the REal problem: all those third worlders who now inhabit the once-greatest state in the nation and who have cesspooled it. Also, apparently Mr. Nagourney can't find any statistics since he places California's population at "more than double" the amount it had when Jerry Brown's father was governor. Strange because it is much closer to TRIPLE the population now and IF one includes the ILLEGALS, veering like a mad man towards 4 Times the population. Let's see: no water, lots of peolpe's poop and pee, San Francisco is 50% Chinese, the Chinese and Mexicans are fighting over the heroin trade, and much of California is a no-go zone for whites....how's that "diversity" thing benefit?
Bullshit on #2. That has to be the fucking dumbest proposal I have ever heard. Here is why: I am a U.S. born citizen and taxpayer and my wife is Russian who has paid U.S. taxes as well. My wife has not cost any of you one fucking cent nor has she "stolen" any job from from some fatass lazy fucking Merican. Obviously you don't understand how immigration works. Mrs. M has been here eleven years and is not a U.S. Citizen and likely never will become one. Here is the issue with doing that, any reportable income she makes she is liable for taxes in BOTH Russia and the United States but is elegible for no benefits in either country at this time. So how exactly is her immigration status fucking you over exactly?
So your proposal is that I can't be married to my wife? Is that what you are saying is the fix to your fucking California problems? I have never been to California and I could give a fuck less if I ever go there so you fix your own fucking problems and the leave the rest of us out of it. One of the first things California could do there is amend their state constituion to require a balanced annual budget and shitcan the bonding. How about that idea for a change?
Let's look at this information regarding federal funding to by state: http://wallethub.com/edu/states-most-least-dependent-on-the-federal-government/2700/
California suprisingly ranks #6 in taking the least amount of federal funding only two behind my state of Minnesota where we have a two billion dollar surplus.
Yet this exists: http://www.usdebtclock.org/state-debt-clocks/state-of-california-debt-clock.html
Do you see the problem? Do you think that you just might be creating your own problems? Are you offering incentives for migrants? Why are they coming to California and why are you offering incentives? I don't know what is going on there as to what the specifics are. What I do care about is broad, sweeping statements that you make regarding federal law. Immigration laws are federal laws and by doing so you invited my retort.
If Californians got too drunk at the credit punchbowl and ended up shitting in their own nest then they should clean it up themselves and not ask anything of me.
Why didn't your wife become a US citizen? If she was eligible for a green card after she married you, she could have applied to become a citizen after 3 years; then she would no longer owe taxes in Russia and would be eligible for US services.
There are legal paths to US citizenship. The problem is with the work arounds, like amnesty and H1B visa abuse.
Simply because she does not want to be a U.S. citizen. She enjoys much easier travel to Russia this way. It is her choice and not mine. I can only say this much because I don't know the extent but much of has to do with wealth transfer when that time comes and that is only marginally my business. I only know that will be such an event in the future. My wife and I keep our finances seperate and there are no problems. She is a lawful permanent resident and has been for eleven years and that works. So goes when you marry into a family of accountants. All titled assets here are in my name only on purpose. She is an only daughter so she will assume control of her assets in Russia. While we occasionally like to wave each other's flag at each other we both know it is all bullshit.
We both have fun with shit like this though.LOL I told her that Kim Jong Il was better at golf than anyone back in the day.
http://nypost.com/2015/05/17/putin-scores-8-goals-vs-ex-nhlers-in-totally-legitimate-game/
Obama is too busy trying to figure which end of the golf club he should grip.
It sounds like your wife is either a natural-born criminal or was raised to be one. It will be interesting to see how she treats you down the road. There may be some really bad consequences to the financial arrangements she has made for the two of you, and your lack of knowledge of any of the details. I wish you luck, you may need it in a big way.
Really, you are going to junk me to death? I don't give a fuck about you weekend warriors or what you think. Not of one of you junkers has the balls to step up and tell me why I am so wrong and most of you are in debt up to eyeballs. You have a fucking mortgage and you can't move and you bought two cars that you couldn't afford and now it is someone else's fault? I know who you junkers are, you are the fuckers with bills stacked up in your counter top that you can't pay. Today is the day you have to deal with those bills and you don't like it and you are in a pissy mood. Blame yourself OK? You did it to yourself. Why are you in debt? And now you fuckers think that any of your shitshow is the result of anythign I did? I would hear about how it all my fault. Please have the intestinal fortitude to tell me why you discount what I said. Or are you afraid that what I speak I said was too close to the truth?
Hey, I never fell for the bullshit and I still got wrapped in some debt but it is all gone now. I never bought a house or any real estate. But I was the fool? I am the fool? I played the game and still play the game and I set myself up to win without taking public funds. That is not easy to do. It must bother the junkers that I have eliminated their source of power. No one in the universe knows my net assets. This is the most important aspect: I OWE NO ONE ANYTHING. If that fact pisses off some of you then that is just too bad because I earned it all honestly.
" You are victims of a system set up before you were born. The benefits of that system, such as they are, go to your parents and grandparents."
Bill has had three in a row now accusing an entire generation of robbing their offspring. Interesting, when you go to bonnerandpartners, an add pops up to help you "Get what's yours" from Social Security. Bill has a long history of demonizing those who receive Social Security. He categorizes SS recipients with your run of the mill FSA welfare recipient. But he doesn't seem to have a problem selling you a book explaining how to get even more from a system he detests. His sometimes mentions his own mother collects SS and that he has asked her why.
He has sold an entire generation he detests books on what's wrong the economy. (me included). Now he apparently is setting up to sell the younger generations a book on how their greedy parents stole their prosperity. Win Win... Yes?
His actual complaints about the system have merit. But blaming one generating for it all is over the line. He apparently was a leader in the National Taxpayers union or something like that. Couldn't get anything done so he then tried suing the government only to fail there too. So it looks like he has decided to blame the whole damn generation,,, like we could have done something other than outright revolt.
All generations from the first to now has their share of the blame.
G. Washington's generation started the first unconstitutional central bank. After number 2 Jackson was wise enough to eliminate it. George was the first to put down a tax revolt of his time. The Whiskey Rebellion. And the country's major complaint before the revolt was what again?
Lincolns generation destroyed half the country in order to make the central government all powerful and the states subservient. The 14th made citizens to the Federales rather than their respective states.
Wilsons generation finally installed a central bank, made us slaves to it via the 16th. completed the elimination of state sovereignty with the 17th. Eliminated the constitutional militia and put us into a war he campaigned against.
The new central bank causing the depression has FDR taking away our constitutional money, starting many unconstitutional programs and was very instrumental in getting us into WWII.
JFK, Johnson, Nixon and Bush I ( especially Johnson) generation made america a world policeman, finished off the gold system of constitutional money, instituted many socialist programs that are today causing serious problems.
The Clinton and Bush dynasty's (still ongoing) have finished off the country by exporting the economy, and starting wars of an empire we cannot afford,,, nor most of us want.
Each of these generations produced a few that contributed to the demise of America but for the most part the majority were hard working and just wanted a good life for them and their children.
Blaming one complete generation for the disintegration of our once great nation just isn't right nor does it make sense.
Once a nation starts on the road to tyranny there is no return other than an all out war between the people and the offending government. No blame can be placed on a people trying their best to avoid that.
Bill has many times blamed his generation but never once had or promoted a viable solution.I assume his solution today is for all of the boomers to die off as fast as possible making way for blue skies and sunshine for the remainder. Obviously that won't work either.
Okay Bill, stop bitching and provide us a workable solution.
What do you say to someone with a sociology degree and $100,000 in student loan debt? "Yes, I would like fries with that."
To the female sociology major I would say ''do you swallow? or do you do rim jobs?''
