Egypt Sentences Clinton-Backed Former President To Death

Tyler Durden's picture

When it comes to spectacularly bad foreign policy outcomes, the US is on an incredible run lately even by its own lofty standards.

Take Yemen for example. Just last year it was trotted out by The White House as the shining example of how, with the help of puppet governments, Washington can effectively combat terror in the Arabian Peninsula. Fast forward to today, and the US-friendly President Hadi is holed up in Riyadh after Iran-backed rebels armed with $500 million worth of weapons the US “lost” swept across the country, sparking a war with Saudi Arabia and plunging Yemen into utter chaos. As for AQAP (the raison d'être for the US’ interest in the country in the first place), they’ve taken advantage of the turmoil by looting central bank branches and staging prison breaks.

Then there’s Syria, where Washington’s celebrated “brave freedom fighters” abruptly metamorphosed into the most brutal band of marauding Muslim militants ever witnessed in the modern world.

And don’t forget Egypt, where the US was effectively forced to abandon its long-standing support for the dictatorial regime of Hosni Mubarak when the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi was “democratically” elected following mass protests. Washington initially praised the country’s “democratic transition” only to see Morsi pass a decree granting himself dictatorial emergency powers. That would mark the beginning of the end for Egypt’s experiment with “democracy” because six months later, Morsi was overthrown in a military coup. Late last month, Morsi was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Had that been the end of it, Egypt would still certainly qualify as an example of how poorly things can turn out when the US meddles in the affairs of sovereign countries, but this ridiculously bad outcome got infinitly worse on Saturday when Morsi was sentenced to death. Here’s Bloomberg:

Former Islamist Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi was sentenced to death following charges that he escaped from prison and collaborated with foreign groups to destabilize the nation during the 2011 revolt against his predecessor, Hosni Mubarak.

A judge announced the verdicts in a televised session on Saturday as Mursi, 63, watched from a soundproof cage in the courtroom. The sentence must be approved by the nation’s top Muslim theologian, or Mufti, a customary procedure when passing capital punishment in Egypt. The court also sentenced more than 100 other defendants to death, many of whom were tried in absentia.

The verdict will raise tensions in a country that has been racked by violence since Mursi was overthrown by the military in 2013, a year after he became Egypt’s first freely elected civilian president. He was sentenced last month to 20 years in prison in connection with violence near the presidential palace in Cairo during a protest against his rule. He remains on trial for other charges including insulting the judiciary and spying for Qatar.

“It’s a very inflammatory move that could perpetuate violence in Egypt,” Anthony Skinner, an analyst at U.K.-based consultancy Verisk Maplecroft, said by phone. “We have already witnessed negative dynamics including the rise in Jihadi groups in Sinai and increasing attacks by militant Islamic groups in urban centers, targeting the police force and state institutions.”

As for the US, the State Department is “deeply concerned.”

Via Reuters:

"We are deeply concerned by yet another mass death sentence handed down by an Egyptian court to more than 100 defendants, including former President Mursi," the State Department official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"We have consistently spoken out against the practice of mass trials and sentences, which are conducted in a manner that is inconsistent with Egypt's international obligations and the rule of law," he said. The official, noted, however, that Saturday’s death sentence ruling was “preliminary.”

Speaking of the State Department and Morsi:

Then…

...and now…

With friends like these...Funny thing is the Crown family- rabid zionists, are still selling Abrams tanks to Egypt hand over fist.

Poor fucker looks like a pound puppy.  I wonder if Hildabeast puts money in his commisary.

The Crown family: investing in weapons, war ...and Obama

General Dynamics, Henry and Lester Crown

One family stands out as playing exactly that role in the political career of Barack Obama: the Crown family of Chicago. The importance of this relationship in Obama’s career exposes some of the roots of his subservience to the government of Israel, his threats of aggression against Iran, his expansion of the JSOC/CIA targeted killing program, and his unswerving commitment to record military budgets in a time of economic and fiscal crisis.

The Crowns are the children and grandchildren of Henry Crown, who made a fortune in the building materials business, had reputed links to the Chicago Mafia, and discovered the armaments business as a military procurement officer during the Second World War. Henry Crown bought a controlling interest in General Dynamics in 1959 and developed it into the largest weapons maker in the world, building the Trident submarine, the Atlas rocket, the F-16 fighter, the Abrams tank and much of America’s Cold War arsenal. The General Dynamics board forced him out as CEO in 1966, but he bought back a 20 percent share in the company and regained effective control in 1970.

Henry’s son Lester succeeded him as chair of General Dynamics in 1986 and as president of Henry Crown & Co, the family’s private investment firm. Lester is 86 now, but still takes a keen interest in politics. He is chair of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and founded the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University, which also received a $2.5 million grant directly from General Dynamics. He supports the arts in the U.S. and Israel—the Jewish Symphony Orchestra plays in Henry Crown Hall in Jerusalem. The Crown family is worth at least $4 billion, making it one of the richest families in America.

Go further back to F-111 scandal.  An insanely overpriced plane green lighted by LBJ with a huge scandal.  Shortly after that.  JFK problem goes away.  A jet looking for a war.

This scum family were among LBJ and Obama biggest supporters.  Pure evil.

Connecting the dots is always useful.  Thanks!

The Henry Crown (formerly Krinsky) family of Chicago is connected to the cover-ups of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the terror attacks of 9-11, as I describe in my article "JFK and 9-11: Henry Crown and the Cover-Ups of Our Time". Most amazingly, the Crown family is also connected to the 1968 assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. Bobby Kennedy was killed in the Ambassador Hotel, which was owned by Myer Schine, the father of Renee Schine and father-in-law of Lester Crown. Schine also owned the Gulf Stream Hotel on Miami Beach where J. Edgar Hoover spent his winter holidays - free of charge. The Crown family of Chicago, the controlling family of the huge defense contractor General Dynamics, is connected to all kinds of things, but for the same family of war profiteers to be connected to the assassinations of both John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy, and the terror attacks of 9-11, is either a remarkable coincidence or an indication of involvement in these mega-crimes. LBJ & THE TFX SCANDAL Henry Crown became the largest shareholder of Texas-based General Dynamics when he merged his sand and gravel (and cement) company, Material Service Corp., with the nearly bankrupt defense contractor in 1959. Crown's new company was in dire straits financially until 1962 when it was rescued by a $7 billion contract to produce a new fighter jet for the military. This became known as the TFX/F-111 scandal. In 1963, General Dynamics came under congressional investigation to determine exactly how Henry Crown had finagled this huge Texas deal. Peter Dale Scott, the author of Deep Politics and the Death of JFK (1993), explains how Lyndon Johnson was tied into this crooked deal:

According to President Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, Bobby Kennedy was also investigating Bobby Baker for tax evasion and fraud. This had reached the point where the President himself discussed the Baker investigation with his secretary, and allegedly told her that his running mate in 1964 would not be Lyndon Johnson. The date of this discussion was November 19, 1963, the day before the President left for Texas.

A Senate Rules Committee investigation into the Bobby Baker scandal was indeed moving rapidly to implicate Lyndon Johnson, and on a matter concerning a concurrent scandal and investigation. This was the award of a $7-billion contract for a fighter plane, the TFX, to a General Dynamics plant in Fort Worth. Navy Secretary Fred Korth, a former bank president and a Johnson man, had been forced to resign in October 1963, after reporters discovered that his bank, the Continental National Bank of Fort Worth, was the principal money source for the General Dynamics plant.

On November 22, 1963, the day of the assassination, a closed session of the Senate Rules Committee heard sworn testimony from a Baker business associate, Don Reynolds. Reynolds was telling the committee of a big lobbyists' sex party in New York, and also of a suitcase he had seen, full of money which Baker described as a $100,000 payoff to Johnson for his role in securing the Fort Worth TFX contract. His testimony was broken off by the news that the President had been shot.

This bit of history indicates that Vice President Lyndon Johnson was involved in a criminal way in the crooked TFX deal that gave Henry Crown's new company the largest military aircraft contract in U.S. history. As the recipient of a $100,000 payoff, Johnson would have been in a position in which he could be blackmailed by Henry Crown.  Henry Crown's personal lawyer, Albert E. Jenner, who also served as a director of General Dynamics, was appointed by Lyndon Johnson to the Warren Commission where he was tasked with investigating the evidence of a conspiracy behind Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby. He found none. J. Edgar Hoover, the head of the FBI, personally directed the FBI investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The House Select Committee on Assassinations issued a report in 1979 critical of the FBI investigation and the Warren Commission. The report criticized the FBI's reluctance to thoroughly investigate the possibility of a conspiracy to assassinate the President. The United States House of Representatives Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) was established in 1976 to investigate the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. The Committee's final report concluded that Kennedy was probably assassinated as a result of a conspiracy. http://www.abeldanger.net/2014/04/crown-crime-family-of-chicago.html

Not necessarily.

"$500 million worth of weapons the US “lost” swept across the country"

I don't think the US is "losing" weapons accidently.  It is all with a purpose.  Such as the billions in weapons and bullets that all these various branches of the US government have purchased for no apparent reason.  You think they aren't being stashed in various places right here in the US so that in the future, a FOO, as you call them, will "find" them and use them in the war against the US and/or certain segments of its citizenry?  I don't doubt this for a second.  This administration is completely untrustworthy and is undermining US strength, relevance, and viability.  Either the most completely incompetent or the most completely evil administration ever.  Possibly both.  I have my doubts there will even be an election in 2016.  These fuckers do not want to cede power.

Saddamized™.

Mubarak only got three years.

Mubarak and his family ( this does not count Mubarak's inner circle of ministers and advisors and military personel ) somehow managed to amass a fortune estimated at more than $40B over the 30+ year of period which Mubarak ruled during which the US sent an average of $2B a year to Egypt as 'foreign aid'...

You and your children are still paying interest -and will continue to do so unless this odious debt is defaulted and expunged- on US national debt which includes these mis-appropriated 'foreign aid' funds borrowed and gifted to Mubarak and his cronies..

Yeah, I'm making a less than informed attempt at drawing similarities between Mursi and, Petro Poroshenko and Nuland in Ukraine.  It does seem that he spent more time in Moldavia than in the Ivy League, but he's still a lapdog to US interests. Mobuto Sese Seko and the USA may have been the more fruitful comparison to Poroshenko, due to the Ukraine's involvement in ending his regime.  Regardless of my being poorly informed on the details of his education I believe there are some useful comparisons to be made between the persons mentioned.

I am reminded of the similarities between the Midfle East today, and the Game of Thrones 'Khal Drogo'. Rule is only possible when there is a strong ruler who can literally crush his opponents. There can never be an opposition party because a strong leader will not tolerate it, and a weak leader will be deposed by his opponents. Stability is a relative term, as a strong leader will not be challenged, and will eliminate anyone who tries.

But is this really any different from the way democracy works in the Republic of the United States of America? About the only thing different is that instead of combatative duels we have elections.

If you doubt what I say - name ANY tolerant democracy that has EVER existed in the Middle East!

Clinton backed, Obama backed and Muslim Brotherhood backed. Morsi is a murdering slimeball and is getting what he gave.

The largest human gathering in the history of mankind, 19 million people in the square in Cairo, was the gathering to demand Morsi vacate office after he started killing Christians and "bad" muslims. That was 25% of the population of Egypt showing up and the moderate muslims stood up to the MB, ISIS, Al-Qaeda types, and to Obama. The equivalent would be 75 million Americans showing up in Washington DC to demand Obama step down.

I don't call that a military coup, I call it a relatively bloodless revolution by the grassroot Egyptian people.
