Inflation Watch: Prices To "The Happiest Place On Earth" Are Up 2900% Since 1971
Having previously shown that money can buy happiness, it appears, as Bloomberg reports, that the cost of buying that happiness is soaring. With well-managed government-provided statistics on inflation, why would one look elsewhere for clues as to the declining standards of living across much of America... but look we did and with wages stagnant, the 2900% surge in prices to Disneyland since 1971 makes 'the happeist place on earth' a place only the wealthy can afford to visit.

In 1971 the admission just got you in the door, you had to buy ride tickets separately. Not so now.
(edit: see discussion of e-tickets here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_ticket )
There's that pesky 1971 again.
You should do a chart to show how many children have "gone missing" at the happiest place on earth since 1971 , I bet it is in the thousands.
Disneyland is the destination for pregnant women from around the world.
That $105 bucks anchors an entire extended family into the US baseless fiat welfare state Ponzi until meltdown.
http://www.wsj.com/articles/us-agents-raid-alleged-maternity-tourism-anc...
But it's more crowded so it should cost more to keep out the riff-raff. Come on Kim, bring Jay-Z we're goin' to Dizzylan', Yo, fuck yeah!
(scratching nuts and remembering trips to Disney with kiddies, $$$$$$$$$ gives new meaning to the term "captive audience")
Disney, Ha! I thought it was another fluff piece on israil.
Since it is crowded, that means the price is far too cheap. They should keep doubling it until the crowds thin out and it's actually fun to go there.
Personally, I wouldn't go there for free. I refuse to patronize the elitist media companies. No tv as well.
Here's a good documentary on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIeB2Q2xmZQ
Funny thing is, everyone with a pulse knows the government's inflation numbers are fake, but the corporate media never questions it, and never will.
Reason #203944804383 to pull the plug on the corporate media.
Right, because in 1972 we unhinged from the Gold Standard all together and began printing our way to prosperity.
This necessitated: jiggering the C.P.I. calculations, fudging unemployment, off-shoring production to maintain corporate profits, getting rid of career employment, and FED engineered speculative bubbles.
Yeah but in the 70’s, disneyland didn’t have 6 fighterjets doing loops to welcome everybody and they didn’t have a 500 man security and anti terror force also.
Just saying...
Even snowwhite needs to work the corner for additional revenue...
The corner? She's probably a dyke. Here's where more of it goes.
http://www.nytimes.com/1995/10/08/us/disney-co-will-offer-benefits-to-ga...
disney began a ride down the tubes when vision was replaced by the bottom line only.
the amazing thing is attendance keeps rising. that means there are lots of people with money and they know their money is worthless.
disney has always set the benchmark for entertainment pricing. it is 200dollars/day/person now. beers are going to crack 10 dollars any minute now somewhere.
Fickle you. The happiest place on earth is on Q99X2.
The Math:
3.05 to 105 over 44 years is an 8.04% annual rate of increase.
$3.50, not $3.05. and they didn't include rides in 1971. I believe the E-tickets were 75 cents each then...if you figure 5 of them (a pretty moderate estimate), you'd spend $7.25, for a 6.3% compounded inflation rate.
OT:
Given that it's memorial day, I find myself thinking alot about warfare and soldiers etc. I find myself hating American soldiers and veterans. I honestly can't think of why. None of them has ever done anything to me personally. Anything they might have done while on duty can't be entirely blamed on them, given that the war machine has had millenia to practice turning decent men into killers.
So where are my hate and anger coming from?
"So where are my hate and anger coming from? "
Indoctrination and the incessant pulse and voice of propaganda that is hard to escape.
Indoctrination comes from many sources, some of which are inadvertent, like from one's compromised parents.
Propaganda comes from what one chooses to be exposed to. Propaganda can best be discerned by those that "cut the cable," and turn off the idiot-box, TeeVee.
After about a month or two, when exposed to an idiot-box in public, or someone's home, the "cutter" will be amazed by the nonsense that those things spew. With a little thought, the "cutter" will notice that the main and incessant propaganda meme is FUDD (Fear, Uncertainty, Dread, and Division), and "government good/friend/protector."
The goal of "division" in the FUDD is resentment, as tyranny cannot hope to operate without resentments in the society to milk. So, for example, eliminate the right of people to free associate under the guise of a"civil rights act," and watch the resentment of both groups grow. Expand, over time, this civil rights act to gender, then sexual orientation, and now sexual identity, and you have a recipe for a very divided and resentful society to milk for your own purposes. Et al.
As I like to tell friend and sheeple alike: "Crime is theft and agression. Stay focused and prioritized on those robbing and harming you."
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission..
Kchrisc, + a fuckin 1000! Happy Memorial Day to you and yours.
Thanks, and back at ya.
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission.
Maybe you are just a hater -
An angry hateful cunt.
Have a nice day.
Because they unquestioningly cooperate, thinking their blind patriotism is a good thing? I think they are simply uninformed. Not entirely their fault, but a flaw nonetheless.
The price doesn't matter anymore. We used to go to WDW twice a year until Disney decided to ridicule the Boy Scouts last year and prohibit their employees from volunteering their time as they have for many years now---all in a misguided effort to hurt the Scouts. Any company that calls people stupid for not kowtowing to abnormality does not need our money. We go elsewhere now.
More math:
CPI, not seasonally adjusted, 4/30/71 (40.1) to 4/30/2015 (236.599) equals 4.12% annual rate of increase.
Well Chartmeister that is using the governments funny numbers, if you used real numbers it would be AT LEAST twice that. I hope someone here with a shadow stats account will post what they calculate
Shadowstats puts $40.10 from April 1971 at $1080.41 in Apri 2015, which equals a 7.77% annual rate of increase.
Disney is a scam and parents for the crap. Inbred Amurikans .
Disneyland and Disneyworld are the Mecca and Medina of America.
All over America and the world numerous pods continue to pilgrimage to one holy site or the other.
The cult of Disney is brainwashed into the minds of Western youths at an early age through movies and TV, i.e. ABC/Disney channel.
And, there's nothing like strolling the various parks and riding the rides of Disney World during the summer in Florida with sweat drenched tards.
yes, most are tards.
but if you do it right, skip all the ice cream candy and cheap knick knacks (buy one good one for the $30 and you will have it a long time).
the spirit of Disney at that "Theres a great big beautiful tomorrow" to quote a ride youve never heard of (going on 50 years of continous shows). there is hope in the future, the spirit of early America, the imagination of children, and the goodness in us all. I think most ZHers too recognize the the future is bright (after the darkness in the intermediate term) and the can do spririt of American and imagination of a free society can bring with it. (china is not free, russia is not free)
Well its all relative take you kids to an NFL game, try it couldnt do it for $100 a person. That too rich ok, how about an NBA game or an NHL game... Nope just as abad? Lets try a AAA baseball game, locally we have the iron pigs, $20 will get you a cheap seat, $5 for a naked hotdog $4 for a soda...Family of four to a AAA game, with parking, $125 if you dont buy souvenirs.... How about taking your kids to Disney on ice / Marvel show family of four $250 MINIMUM. How about the old iconic burger (Red Robin) and a transformers matinee 4 people (no sodas or pop corn, a little north of $100).
I used to consider myself middle class, and I have absolutely no idea how people are doing this regularly and they sure are...
Disney doesnt look so bad in comparison.
Screw all the entertainment. Parents are broke and will continue to be broke period. Americans are not so rich they are funcking pathetically poor
"Americans are not so rich they are funcking pathetically poor"
So absolutely correct.
I try to work that fact into all convos with all of the sheeple and "half-awakes" that I can.
I tell them: "You are poor. You are poorer than any Mexican you can fathom. You and the rest of America." The idea is to take a big steaming dump of truth into their psyche, and then have them ask, "What do you mean?" To which I then explain how the banksters' fraudulent-reserve banking works to plunder all of their product and futures.
The bottom line is that the American people think that that "light" and "whistle" coming toward them is prosperity and "happy days," not a train full of poverty, misery, and tyranny. They are so sadly mistaken.
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission..
I explained to a guy at his garage sale recently that he has no retirement "savings" despite what his online account statement says. I explained that Zion and their banksters had stolen it all--every dime. That, when the dollar finally collapsed like WTC-7, his statement would read the same, maybe more, but bread would be $100,000 a loaf. He just did the blinking "rebooting" thing that people do when confronted with too much truth.
Agree!
I half jokingly commented to one of my office colleagues who is American that the average Zimbabwe beggar is wealthier than he is. "How is that?" he replied....
Well, Mugabe inflated their debt to zero so the Zim beggar is worth nothing, zip, nadda.......you, my American Friend, should be so lucky..:)
Lets see...federally, you're in hock for, in net present value terms, $625,000. Ahh, but you have a wife and child so, that is $1.875 million for your family. That's federal only, we haven't looked at your county or state yet.
I got a blank stare in return.

Visa, it's everywhere you want to be. This slogan started hitting home w/ me when the 'trendy' restaurants started taking hold 25 years ago. I call them credit card restaurants. You hardly ever see people pay with cash there. I had a relative who was absolutely fixated with Ruby Tuesdays. Another brainwashed boomer, of course. I went there, one time, to see what all the fuss was about. Still not sure.

They're pods. Nothing more you can do for them.
Fuck Dizzy Land and fuck the ball sports too. The real men drive or pilot machines at high rates of speed, risking their lives, for a lot less than your average NBA player. Vintage NHRA Drag Racing at the March Meet in Bakersfield. $35 to get in, free parking out in the cow pastures or pecans and there's got to be 5 to 10 thousand spectators, from all over the Country.
Hundreds of cars: Gassers, Double AA Fuel Altereds (takes very big balls to drive one of these, look up 'Winged Express' and see if you'd drive one of these to 200 mph+), vintage Funny Cars, like the Jungle Jim, Blue Max, and others. The smell of nitro and burnt rubber filling the air,as 5,000 horsepower, puts a pounding to the pavement. It was bad ass and I'm glad to get out there, twice a year.
Man made happy places VS Natural happy places. I'll take the latter.
I'll help you carry the supplies.
Yeah...I heard Mickey divorced Minnie because she was fuckin Goofy...
At least, she wasn't eating Daisy's...http://wondersofdisney.webs.com/pals/daisy/innocentdaisy.gif

Still more math:
Gold (London PM month end close) 4/71 (39.70) to 4/2015 (1,187.00) equals 8.03% annual rate of increase.
Disney 3.50 to 105.00 was an annualized 8.04%.
1971: Dollar un-pegged from Gold, no mystery here.
+1 to catch the inflation of Disney ticket and Gold who is the same in Dollars terms !
END the Fed, back to Gold standard.
You're right virtually all mass consumption events are terribly overpriced. No thanks. Its easy to see why virtually no one saves any money and slide further into debt. I literally would not go to most of these events even if you paid me. Huge time sucks and not all that much fun. Lots of folks in those ruts....not me.
I always thought the prices were way, way too low for far too long. They should have started the prices at $100.00. The tickets now should be $200-$250.00. I'd be real disappointed if I was a shareholder. Those poor folks got so screwed, while all the kids and their parents rode for nearly free. And, If they raised the tickets to something reasonable, they could even pay their employees a living wage.
I'd like Disney to run private correctional institutions .... recitivism would drop .... because the nig-ers wouldn't leave !
If Disney is where the rich go they must be bored and not very happy.
They should open a Disneyland in Mecca .... park the kids and wives .... while you're strolling the Haaj .... with the guys with no underpants ?
The few times I have Been there I kept saying myself I have never seen so many foreigners I one place and I never seen so many fat people on scooters.
Never been to Walmart?
What i remember is that it used to be affordable to go to Disneyland.
affordablitily....what does that mean....is in the eye of the beholder.
and Disneyland vs Disneyworld .....never been to Anaheim....but I doubt it compares to DW
That doesn't sound like a FED 2% annual inflation target, to me.
they briefly mention it, but one used to have to buy ride tickets, like a carnival until the late 80's. so those prices are a bit off. not to say it isnt a lot still.
but if you study, and plan your day (to avoid the large foreign groups--who are totally annoying) you can have a very magical day. yes it will cost, esp if you do any of the character b'fast/lunch/dinner where you meet up close at your table the characters. in epcot, the princess b'fast will make daughters, and dad's day :)
there is a skill in doing disneyworld and i would recommend 3 days for magic kingdom and epcot (epcot is 1 day tops, unless you have 5 stomachs to 'experience' all the other countries).
it is worth every penny of the $100. they let you bring in your own food/drink....but you have to carry it around. rides are good, but there are a ton of experiential items too, like the treasure hunts now, and the like 5 parades a day. rides are tertiary to the whole experience. the people, castmemebers, are second to none. ask a guy emtying the trash when the next parade is and if this is a good spot and he has full knowledge (and expectation) to tell you exactly what this area will look like at parade time, where to sit etc.
if you get a 3 day pass, go early one day, leave at 1pm, go to the pool, take a nap, eat dinner, come back at 7 and stay until they usher you out. at night all the rides have like no wait and theres no sun! one day go to epcot early and leave after 6pm when you visit england for a few Bass Ales. Animal kingdom is good too...thus the 3 day pass.
feel free to down me, but Ive been to magic kingdom since 1976, and epcot b4 it was open; 20+ visits; and they know how to do it. there is no comparing Busch Gardens (no free beer anymore!) or any other park to Disneyworld
I would concur. If you visit a few times you will weed out the time crushing rides/times and get a good idea of where and when to eat.
Flame tree in animal kingdom has a half slab of ribs for $11 or $12 bucks
The pizza in Italy in Epcot is good value
And the sell a wicked pork shank at Gastons in the manic kingdom for $10 bucks
Word
Seems ridiculous since the Magic Kingdom has added like ZERO content since 1971 ... EPCOT has added some, but not that much.
I will be very happy if I can avoid Disney for the rest of my life.
The crap they pulled with firing their IT staff and forcing them to train their foreign replacements at the same time they showed record profits really soured me to the entire company.
Boycott Disney
added like ZERO content since 1971
Bullshit.
Was in DL last year and not just has quite of bit of content been added compared to DW in 1985, but also many old rides were upgraded significantly.
Why would anyone want to visit America's Ministry of Culture?
Disneyland, the biggest man(mind)trap ever devised by a mouse!
