Surplus Repression And The Self-Defeating Deep State

The nation is wallowing self-piteously in a fetid trough of denial and adolescent rage/magical thinking now that the nation's bogus, debt-based "prosperity" has crashed and cannot be restored.
If you type Deep State into the custom search window in the right sidebar, the search results fill 10 pages. I think it is fair to say I have long had a deep interest in the Deep State.
The Deep State is generally assumed to be monolithic: of one mind, so to speak, unified in worldview, strategy and goals.
In my view, this is an over-simplification of a constantly shifting battleground of paradigms and power between a number of factions and alliances within the Deep State.Disagreements are not publicized, of course, but they become apparent years or decades after the conflict was resolved, usually by one faction consolidating the Deep State's group-think around their worldview and strategy.
History suggests that this low-intensity conflict within the ruling Elite is generally a healthy characteristic of leadership in good times. As times grow more troubled, however, the unity of the ruling Elite fractures into irreconcilable political disunity, which becomes a proximate cause of the dissolution of the Empire if it continues.
I recently proposed the idea that Wall Street now poses a strategic threat to national security and thus to the Deep State itself: Who Gets Thrown Under the Bus in the Next Financial Crisis?(March 3, 2014)
Many consider it "impossible" that Wall Street could possibly lose its political grip on the nation's throat, but I suggest that Wall Street has over-reached, and is now teetering at the top of the S-Curve, i.e. it has reached Peak Wall Street.
Consider what the extremes of Wall Street/Federal Reserve predation, parasitism, avarice and power have done to the nation, and then ask if other factions within the Deep State are blind to the destructive consequences.

This is powerful evidence that the corrosive consequences of financialization on the stability of the real economy is filtering into the group-think hive of the Deep State Network:

Here is a sketch of The Deep State Network, which includes not only the nodes of centralized power but of the institutions that feed and support the Deep State's decisions and policies. These include Ivy League and federally funded research universities, the Mainstream Media, think-tanks, NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and the spectrum of institutions that influence the public's ability to frame and contextualize events, i.e. the institutions of propaganda.
A recent interview with Deep State scholar Peter Dale Scott made me wonder if the increasingly repressive policies of the visible state are also being recognized as destabilizing and therefore a threat to the entire American Imperial Project.
Scott's key phrase is surplus repression, which I interpret to mean repression that exceeds the practical needs of the Deep State to maintain public order.
We can anticipate the Deep State fracturing over the question of how much repression is enough: those who believe there is no upper limit on the effectiveness of repression, and those who understand that at some point, unlimited policing and financial repression will unleash a social destabilization that will threaten the integrity of the Empire and the Deep State itself.

Peter Phillips: We’re really happy to have you here. I’ve just finished reading your book, The American Deep State: Wall Street, Big Oil, and the Attack on U.S. DemocracyIn your new book you talk about the egalitarian mindset culture of America. We believe in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, open government, transparency. And then you say also that there’s a dark side, or a deep side inside America that’s repressive, that is looking to be able to detain people without warrants, warrantless wire tapping and all of that – there’s a repressive side. Can you tell us a little bit more about how you frame this understanding of this culture of repression?
Peter Dale Scott: Actually, I think there’s always been a deep state in America and there have been times when it has been very repressive. We’re in a period of, you might say, surplus repression – repression that doesn’t serve anyone’s interests, not even the interests of the ruling class. (emphasis by CHS)
But it’s not in its essence repressive; it’s just repressive when it wants to be. I think a lot of the trouble we’re in now, actually is – and I say this in my book – that in the 1970s the deep state – the bankers, the lawyers, the people in foundations, all kinds of people – were really quite terrified at the forces in America calling for revolution – the African-Americans, but also, equally and perhaps ultimately even more, the anti-war movement because if you had a successful anti-war movement that would mean America would have to get out of the business of war. And that was, I think, an intolerable thought for them.
I think the Deep State was terrified of more than the anti-war movement--it was terrified of the counter-culture, which threatened the entire status quo of mindless consumerism and obedience to authority.
The Counterculture, which included the culmination of the Civil Rights Movement and the birth/expansion of the feminist movement, Eastern spirituality in the U.S., back-to-the-land self-sufficiency, rock music as a cultural force, the nonviolent anti-war movement, the anti-nuclear movement, experimentation with communal living and drugs, Futurist concepts, and a widespread expansion of freedom of self-expression and experimentation. Many observers believe this era also launched a Fourth Awakening as evangelical denominations expanded and "Jesus freaks" found religious inspiration outside mainline churches.
The book What the Dormouse Said: How the 60s Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer makes a strong case that this era set the stage for the ultimate technological medium of experimentation and self-expression, the personal computer, which then led irresistibly to the World Wide Web (all the foundational technologies of the Internet were in place by 1969-- The first permanent ARPANET link was established on November 21, 1969, between UCLA and Stanford Research Institute.)

Deep State or not there is a truth in the "repression" from, but not eminating from, just Washington. It is being delivered in clever statements like "everday Americans", global "level playing fields", and the slow disappearance of the middle class. It may not be a structured organization but the collective is surely pushing, especially the US proletariate working class, to a state of repression. They may see it as the only way we, as a country, can survive the impossible financial obligations the "Deep State (?)" created and promised without killing us off in wars internal or external. Their fear would be the armed masses which by design of the constitution allows the people to change a corrupted govennment if necessary, may we hope not. Interesting times.

Do not fall for groups of people as the evil. Every group has leaders point at them. When we all hold our own so called leaders to account then we will be getting some real progress.
The cracks in the Deep State were shown in Libya, Syria and Iran. Libya was the easiest to see. The state depart was running guns to affiliate terror networks in Syria when the deal went bad. They called for military support and they told them to go scratch. Military commanders don't want this conflict to go on. They see real risks in it. And they think that Iraq was a massive failure. They also look at Iran and think that's the edge of Insanity. They've shown for years that Iran would destroy a significant part of the U.S. navy and there air superiority in the region. It's a no go.
But there persists an extremist element of the elite, fringe as they may be, that pushes the U.S. closer to regional war.
The other not so well kept secret is that the military equipment is obsolete. And people know how to beat a US invasion. Just wait them out. They leave. Take the country back through insurgency. Which is exactly how most of these counter-colonial operations have worked.

The 'deep state' cannot undo their fate until they understand exactly where they are going, and they can't understand where they are going because they don't really know how they got here in the first place. Once management and control systems become removed from normal comprehensive understanding it creates a dependence and duality in those that are under the dictates of such systems, it is the taking of a person's sovereignty. Society is based on dependant people conforming to the wishes of people in positions of power, people in power who live in different circumstances, often in conflict with those they preside over. If this dependance and duality were to be dissolved then society would radically change, the impending financial carnage being a possible catalyst for the death of these illusions, quite possibly a very painful disenchantment for many, peak Wall Street indeed.
The only acceptable measure of repression in my understanding is enough to deny the information that one is not capable of conceiving, until a point in time where one is capable of assimilating that information, otherwise it is nothing but a self defeating retardant of social function that heightens conflicts and deepens divides. Conservative political ideology requires repression as we consolidate the center right paradigm to the point of failure without the overt military extremism to the degree acted out in the past as a motivator for change, until a point maybe as militarization is on the increase globally and it seems even Obama identified it as a risk, which must have been the product of a rather frank discussion between the pot and kettle pertaining to the shade of nonreflective coating imbued on each. Time being both linear and cyclical with the increase of technology and compression of information we gain larger effect in a predominantly forward thinking society, so intentions can manifest with less coercion especially with systems readily available that allow for gain at the expense of others. It makes it more knife edge while the lessons of the past hold us from acting out on stupidity and violence, as we flirt with the patterns of the past, the deep state akin to the unconscious mind of the individual in a microcosm macrocosm relationship, and even if you did not know they existed, every one of those things identified in Charles Hugh Smith's diagram provides you with some kind of service in your life, even if some are unidentified and written of as the hardships of life. If one could become fully aware of it all then one would know how powerful human consciousness has become, only to be trapped in conflict with itself at present. So I say bring on the demise that will enlighten us to this conflict, make the unconscious, conscious, take a hard pill and try not destroy the plane in the mean time.

Thats one of the better lines yet that I have heard to describe both American elites and their brainwashed public. Media and Public Schools and Universites have worked overtime to plant the mind set of denial and Magical Thinking into our skulls. Remember Steve Jobs anyone? He was famous amoung those who knew him well for "Magical Thinking" when it came to his person. When he learned he had cancer, he believed if he ignored medicine and went for nutriton healing, he could, by force of will and denial, cure his cancer. Only later, when it was too late, when his magical thinking failed totally, only then did he seek real medical help. All the money on earth could not buy him life, he died. America is the same, rational observers can tell us our system and crony capitalism is ill with economic and social cancer. Instead of making changes, we double down on an elites based "magical thinking" plan, that incidently, puts the monied interests of the elites above and ahead of all other national interests.
We are on the road to hell, and nobody is asking for us to slow down, or turn around. As long as the 1% see net wealth growing by massive amounts, we all seem happy to revert to denial and our own "magical thinking".

The "Deep State" is due to that civilizations necessarily operate according to the principles and methods of organized crime. "Surplus repression" is due to the ways that backing up lies with violence never stops those lies from being false. The social successfulness in the short-term necessarily drives the longer term consequences to become more psychotic.
The debt-based "prosperity" operated through a fundamentally fraudulent financial accounting system, which was established by the persistent and prolonged application of the methods of organized crime to the political processes. The PROBLEM is that "money" made out of nothing as debts "paid" to strip-mine the planet's natural resources, by turning those into garbage and pollution as fast as possible. All of the "prosperity" was based upon having a fresh planet for the industrial revolutions to rape and plunder. The reasons that has crashed and cannot be restored are that we are running into the real limits of diminishing returns from being able to continue to strip-mine the planet at an exponential rate.
Of course, it is theoretically possible to develop better integrated systems of human, industrial and natural ecologies, and there are an abundance of creative alternatives which could be implemented. HOWEVER, none of those can actually be achieved without the keystone of such systems of alternatives being different death control systems, because the death controls are the lynch pin that actually hold together all of the other components.
The deeper problems with respect to the Deep State are the degrees to which they have been too successful, for too long, so that everything they have accomplished at an exponentially accelerating rate has already gone into severely overshooting whatever might have otherwise been more sustainable, if "we" had not so deliberately been wallowing self-piteously in a fetid trough of denial FOR SO LONG ...
Of course, I sympathize with that, since I do practically the same thing, since while I agree that the Deep State is NOT monolithic, it does operate on the basis of backing up lies with violence, which deliberately ignores rational evidence and logical arguments that it does not like. By and large, the BIG PROBLEM is the degree to which almost everyone does not recognize that there must necessarily be some murder systems, to back up the monetary systems. The Deep State did NOT develop by accident, as a series of mistakes. Rather, the Deep State was driven by natural selection pressures to develop the systems of artificial selection that currently exist, which operate with the most social successfulness by being the most deceitful and fraudulent.
Our "best hope" is for series of intellectual scientific revolutions, that enable paradigm shifts in political science to surpass those already achieved in physical science, in ways where those are both made as mutually consistent as possible. Of course, that includes the basic view that revolutions tend to not be successful unless some of those who were supposed to suppress the revolution decide to join instead, which is the way I would interpret this:

Although human beings and civilizations necessarily operate as entropic pumps of energy flows, the history of warfare and economics has resulted in us living in a Bizarro Mirror World, or Wonderland Matrix, where everything appears proportionately backward and absurd, because the biggest and best organized gangs of criminals are currently the bankster controlled governments, while those are mostly able to get away with pretending that they are not those.
Human beings, as soon as we perceive them as subtracted from their environment, necessarily live as organized systems of lies operating robberies, but they do that with the most social successfulness by being the best available professional liars and immaculate hypocrites. Therefore, the only things that actually exist are the dynamic equilibria between different systems of organized lies and robberies, wherein those who do that best are lying about themselves the most. Hence, there are good reasons for how and why the Deep State developed, inasmuch as there must be some death control systems that back up the debt control systems. Theoretically, it would be possible for enough people to understand that, enough to change those dynamic equilibria. However, doing so runs into head-on collisions with the established artificial selection systems having developed to be based on the maximum possible deceits and frauds. That is an extremely intractable problem because, at the present time, there is almost nothing but the core of the organized crimes of the Deep State, surrounded by controlled opposition groups.
Almost all of the content published on Zero Hedge, including that from Hugh-Smith, is the work of controlled opposition groups, who do not more fully understand the degrees to which the ways that they think and communicate are being controlled by the natural languages and philosophy of science that they continue to take for granted. Theoretically speaking, it would be possible for human beings to better understand themselves as general energy systems, which are integrated with all other energy systems. However, doing so necessarily results in discovering that because human beings operate as entropic pumps of energy, that matches the principles and methods of organized crime, which has resulted in those who were the best at doing that becoming the Deep State, that is the best at dissembling.
There is NO DOUBT that "the Deep State has been busy powering up the immense machinery of full spectrum repression." The most spectacular symbolic event, so far, in order to achieve that goal, was that the Deep State staged the events on 9/11/2001 as inside job, false flag attacks. Of course, that is consistent with The Art of War, as expressed in the oldest book on the subject, that starts by saying that "success in war is based on deceits," and ends by saying "spies are the most important soldiers." Warfare was organized crime on larger and larger scales. The same principles and methods were applied fractally, both in the class warfare within civilizations, as well as in the warfare between civilizations.
The principles and methods of organized crime developed as the ways that natural selection pressures were expressed through artificial selection systems. Those are the foundation of the social pyramid systems that we currently live within. HOWEVER, those are actually social toroidal vortex systems, which the vast majority of people do not perceive as being the case, because the ruling classes ruled on the basis of being the best at backing up deceits with destruction, and enforcing frauds, while those they ruled over survived by adapting to living within those sorts of sociopolitical systems, by becoming ignorant and afraid, and developing attitudes of evil deliberate ignorance. Since the ruling classes in public are "wolves in sheep's clothing" the Deep State can not publicly admit what it is really doing, and why. Rather, in the public spaces there tends to be nothing but representatives of the Deep State misrepresenting themselves, to mainstream morons, while reactionary revolutionaries, or Black Sheeple, are exhorting the Zombie Sheeple that the "solutions" to the problems are for everyone to become better Sheeple. Of course, those controlled opposition groups, that promote their range of favourite false fundamental dichotomies, and related impossible ideals, actually make the opposite happen in the real world, because all of the publicly significant religions and ideologies were long ago developed as forms of controlled opposition, which surrounded the necessary core groups of organized crime, i.e., the Deep State.
The challenge for the human species is to continue to evolve. Primarily that must mean that we develop political science to become more consistent with the progress made in physical science. HOWEVER, that progress in physical science required a series of profound paradigm shifts (which are certainly not over.) The only way that the human species could survive the progress in physical science is for its political science to surpass that, in ways which were consistent with the paradigm shifts already achieved in physical science.
Of course, that is theoretically possible, but appears to now be politically impossible, due to the degree that civilization is dominated by the biggest bullies' bullshit world view, which includes the controlled opposition groups just as much as it does the more central organized crime operating through the Deep State. Indeed, all of the established religions and ideologies that dominate politics today are manifestations of controlled opposition, that are just as much an aspect of the problems as the Deep State!
Theoretically, what we need is a better Deep State, which would only become possible if enough people understood that Deep State more deeply. The GREAT PARADOXES manifest with respect to coming to terms with the existence of globalized electronic frauds, backed by the threat from the force of atomic bombs. Obviously, NONE of the previously established old-fashioned religions and/or ideologies are competent to do that, despite that those still overwhelmingly dominate politics today. Indeed, there are good reasons to think that many of Deep State's people actually believe in some of the most old-fashioned religions and ideologies, and therefore, are some of the most criminally insane and psychotic people on the planet at the present time.
"Surplus Repression And The Self-Defeating Deep State" are manifestations of the basic problems that civilization is operating on the basis of integrated systems of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, where that violence can never stop those lies from still being false, and therefore, overall, that civilization becomes more and more psychotic and criminally insane. There must necessarily exist some death control systems. There already exist combined money/murder systems, where money is measurement backed by murder, as the abstract expression of the ways that private property is based on backing up claims with coercions. All of those are due to human beings necessarily living as entropic pumps of energy flows, BUT, those are expressed in extremely PARADOXICAL ways, as demonstrated by how an arbitrary minus sign was inserted into the entropy equations of thermodynamics and information theory, so that progress in those sciences would stay inside of the biggest bullies' bullshit world view.
In my view, the article above was another typical example of a relatively superficial analysis of the Deep State, which did not go deep enough! Of course, we should not be too surprised by that, since the development of technologies such as electronics and atomic energy were based upon profoundly different ways to think about basic concepts like time and space, which then relates to the ways how energy is distributed in time and space manifests as entropy. From a sublime point of view, it continues to be amusing that people can continue to promote bogus "solutions" to problems that still stay within the biggest bullies' bullshit frame of reference. However, from a more practical point of view that is a tragic trajectory, where ignorance causes suffering, and the worst suffering is caused by deliberate ignorance.
Natural selection was internalized as human intelligence, which was then applied to the most important issues, which were the threats from other people, so that warfare developed, in ways whereby The Art of War's successes were based upon deceits and treacheries. However, the Deep State that thereby developed did NOT create the chronic political problems, which were inherent to the nature of life. Rather, the Deep State only developed expedient sets of solutions, which benefited that Deep State.
Theoretically, what "we" should do now is develop better sets of solutions for the chronic political problems inherent in the nature of all life. However, any such better sets of solutions have to come to terms with the BIG PROBLEM of how to operate the human murder systems after that development of weapons of mass destruction ... Meanwhile, the established monetary systems, which were historically constructed on the basis of previously successful warfare based on backing up deceits with destruction, are now the systems of enforced frauds controlling the political economy.
Nobody promised us that would be easy. Indeed, at the present time those problems appear practically impossible to resolve, since we are already inside of systems of debt slavery, backed by wars based on deceits, that are runaways of debt insanities, headed towards provoking death insanities ... Moreover, in that context, the vast majority of the relatively few people who begin to understand the existence of the Deep State do NOT promote developing better systems of death controls, but rather tend to continue to promote the impossible ideals that no such systems should exist, or at least none that human beings are consciously aware of operating.
Throughout almost all of the content on Zero Hedge, one will almost never see straightforward statements that money is measurement backed by murder. Instead, one will typically read material that does a relatively good analysis of what has gone wrong, without going deep enough into the Deep State, as would be required to propose more realistic resolutions of those real problems. Therefore, we are watching the GRAND PARADOXES of the measurement of money becoming electronic, while the threat of murder to back that up has become weapons of mass destruction, while pretty well nobody is directly addressing those problems in ways which go beyond their own favourite false fundamental dichotomies and related impossible ideals, as expressed in their preferred old-fashioned religions and ideologies ...

Since the Deep State is NOT monolithic, there is some hope that is possible, although that hope currently appears to be mostly irrational, due to the rate at which "we" are running out of time to adapt our politics to our progress in physics, as demonstrated by the rate at which the established debt slavery systems are driving their numbers to become debt insanities, which appear to have no politically possible resolutions other than to provoke death insanities ... out of which, one may still entertain some transcendental hope for some emergence of better death control systems, IF enough technologically based civilization survives through its own psychotic breakdowns ???
The deep state needs a healthy dose of their own cooking. They will never change until the light of truth shines on them.
