Buzzsaw - Funny you mentioned that Buffet used to drive a Volkswagon until his wife bought him a Lincoln Towncar. As a value investor I used to have a lot of respect for him. But he caved to the FIRE economy and under a bit of pressure from government caved there two. None of us are angels but I do believe in drawing a line in a profession that supports crime. The FBI warned of this growing crime wave in 2004.
Anyways, I think this has to do with loyalty to shareholders not greed or maliciousness but in any event I would have sold my holdings and stepped down by 2009. Each man has his own line in the sand but to me bailouts are not capitalism and profiting immensly at taxpayer expense is participating in crime.
I did admire his correct statements on the messed up nature of the tax system and class warfare which stating publically poses some risk. But continuing to participate meant his behavior was hypocritical.

Every week I wait in anticipation for the market to fold. I expect it to begin on a Thursday, accelerate into Friday and collapse the following Monday.
Anecdotally, I can tell you that both the frequency an amplitude of the events continues to increase.

Right this second a million workers a year are retiring. They are getting their checks, and have been for years and will get them for a long time way past their due date with death.
The securities backing up the issuance of these weekly or monthly cash payments have been sold to other investments banks and insurance companies who are using the infusion of new money (trillions, we really don't know how much but you can bet it's more than the ballooning balance sheet of the FED) printed and given to them by the FED and Treasury to buy them, and this will go on like a game of musical chairs for a century, AND WHY the stock market can not go down appreciably.
