America The Obese: Is There A Multibillion Dollar Conspiracy To Make Sure Americans Stay Overweight?
Submitted by Michael Snyder via The End of The American Dream,
According to Gallup, America is now fatter than it has ever been before. But how can this possibly be? After all, Americans spend an astounding 60 billion dollars a year on weight loss programs and products. After putting so much time, effort and energy into losing weight, shouldn’t we be some of the healthiest people on the entire planet?
Sadly, the truth is that obesity has become a national epidemic, and we are known around the globe for our huge size. The term “fat Americans” has become synonymous with overweight tourists, and other cultures mock us for our apparent sloth. But could there be more to this than just the fact that we eat too much? Could it be possible that we have been fattened up by design?
Before we get to that, let’s take a look at some of the cold, hard numbers. The following are some of the statistics from the Gallup survey that I mentioned above…
-The national rate of obesity has risen to an all-time high of 27.7 percent. That is up from 27.1 percent in 2013, and it is much higher than the 25.5 percent number that we were sitting at in 2008.
-At 19.0 percent, Hawaii has the lowest rate of obesity in the entire country.
-At 35.2 percent, Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity in the entire country.
-The rest of the top 10 includes West Virginia, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa and Missouri.
And remember, those numbers just cover obesity. You can definitely be overweight without meeting the official criteria for being “obese”. According to CNN, 70 percent of all Americans are overweight at this point. To say that we have a national crisis on our hands is a huge understatement.
One of the primary reasons why most of us are overweight is due to how our food is made. The American diet is highly processed and it is absolutely packed with obesity-causing ingredients such as sugar and high fructose corn syrup. And it is well documented that some of the additives that they put into our food are highly addictive and actually make you want to eat more. In fact, it has been reported that some of the additives are about as addictive as “opiates“, “heroin” and “cocaine“. The big food corporations want us to eat as much as possible, because when we eat more of their food they make more money.
Unfortunately, being overweight is not just an issue of not looking as good as we could. As Gallup explained, a whole host of health problems are related to obesity…
The national obesity rate in 2014 was the highest that Gallup and Healthways have measured since starting to track this measure in 2008. In a handful of states, more than a third of the population is obese.
Residents in these areas are less likely to eat healthily and exercise, and are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression, diabetes, cancer and heart attacks.
Obesity-related health problems could drive up healthcare costs and potentially have larger economic implications for states that suffer most.
The strong relationship between obesity and overall well-being suggests that interventions geared toward encouraging exercise and healthy eating, while important, may not be enough to reverse the upward trend in obesity. Gallup has found that Americans’ desire to lose weight is not matched by their efforts. The mismatch between desired weight loss and weight loss efforts may stem from deficits in other areas of well-being. For instance, if residents don’t have a strong sense of purpose, struggle financially or lack supportive relationships, it will be much more difficult for them to buy healthy food, exercise regularly and achieve their weight loss goals.
Cancer, heart disease and diabetes are all huge money makers for the medical establishment. If you can believe it, 100 billion dollars was spent on cancer drugs last year alone. So there are people out there that are becoming exceedingly wealthy from all of our misery.
In addition, it is a fact that being overweight shaves years off of our lives. Just consider the following information that was shared by Natural News…
Published in the journal The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, a study comparing young men and women of healthy weights to young obese individuals found that those who were overweight lost about 8.4 years off of their lives if they were men and 6.1 years off of their lives if they were women.
Similarly, the young obese men suffered 18.8 more years of poor health leading up to their early deaths compared to men of healthy weight, while young obese women suffered 19.1 years of poor health. Even when obesity emerged just in old age, both men and women were found to lose years off of their lives: for men, an average of 3.7 years and for women about 5.3 years.
So why doesn’t the medical establishment do more to help us lose weight and keep it off?
Well, if we were all at a healthy weight they would lose a tremendous amount of money. Right now, if the U.S. health care system was a separate country, it would be the 6th largest economy on the entire planet. The sicker that all of us are, the more money the medical establishment makes.
And then of course there is the massively bloated weight loss industry. As I mentioned above, 60 billion dollars a year is spent on weight loss programs and products in the United States. If we were all at a healthy weight, we wouldn’t need to spend all of that money.
Tragically, most of those programs don’t work in the long run anyway. At least that is what one scientific study discovered…
In the end, the advice and products offer virtually no long-term return on investment—measured, of course, in pounds permanently lost. According to a 2006 study reported in The New England Journal of Medicine, most people who participate in weight-loss programs “regain about one-third of the weight lost during the next year and are typically back to baseline in three to five years.”
So what is the solution?
The key is to make healthy choices a lifestyle and not just a one time event.
If you “go on a diet” or you “do a cleanse”, but then you just go back and do the same things that you did before, you are going to end up at the exact same place you started.
If we want to be healthy, what we need to do is to design our lives so that we are doing the right things consistently. We need to be physically active, we need to eat healthy (lots of fruits and vegetables), and we need to avoid the things that we know will make us fat.
In the end, it isn’t that complicated. Thanks to the Internet, there is lots and lots of great health information out there that you can access for free. But you have got to be willing to make the right choices and to do the right things consistently.

Yes. Big pharma sure do love themselves a few million overweight diabetics.
Best I ever went on was the Haagan Das and potato chip diet
Lost 20 lbs and all the blood panels went to super dooper A-OK normal
"O'er the land of the freeeeeeee---bies!
And the home... of the... slave."
Definition of 'hamburger' in 2020: 10% horse meat, 87% cellulose, 2% other 'natural ingredients'.
Fat and stupid is the American way to go through life.
I'm a disgusting fat ass, but I don't care. I'm just happy that I wasn't born in Chad.
GMOs = Less Nutrients, Requires More Intake for Energy, and it's all about the P R O F I T E E R I N G!!!
It is not just obese.
It is SICK, CHEMICALLY ALETRED, PLASTIC food. People have recorded it not going bad for YEARS.
Anyone still eating that poison ought to know better. McD has been part of the global cull for a long time now...

Wow, that was almost entertaining. Did anyone learn anything reading that drivel? No. No you f'n did not. There is certainly a giant economy built up on treating all the symptoms of a bad lifestyle, but none of it really answers the question of why are Americans so fat??? People go on starvation diets and the weight comes back, +5 pounds!!! People up until the early 1970's were not fat. To see a fat person, one had to go the circus. Now one only has to go to Wal-Mart. Honestly, how is it that muscle bound weight lifters who may not have finished elementary school and yet run California and get to fuck the maid can manage to look good and all the "really smart people" look like fat asses??? Look up the Perfect Health Diet. Seriously. People are fat because they have been tricked into eating nutrient poor, calorie rich (and delicious!) food. I can go on and on about how people are tricked into all kinds of things. Consider this the best advice any of you have ever gotten.
"sugar and high fructose corn syrup"
so sugar and sugar are making Americans fat? How is sugar different than sugar? The Chosenite media sure likes to make Boogeymen
From the rumors making the rounds about you, you may not have been in Chad, but a few Chads have certainly been inside you.
Thing is, it's blacks and mexicans that are obese. Whites, not so much.
Note that there are (practically) no blacks or Mexicans in Hawaii. Just indiginous people and whites.
Of course, a major part of this is the fact that we have been lied to for the last 40+ years. Dietary fat is the key to weight loss. I should know, I lost 70 pounds in a half a year with no hunger by doing a ketotic diet. Gained most of it back when I went back to eating like normal. Going back on the diet now, and will stay on low-carb for the rest of my life. Literally fuck the FDA with a million rusty dildos. Those idiots don't know what they are doing or talking about, and never did. Let the professionals do what they need to do. We'll have 2% obesity and a cure for cancer/all communicable disease within a few years.
Not kidding or exaggerating. Had the cure for fucking AIDS in the freezer at my last job. Still have the formula in my safe. Just needs a little work to make it persist in the body.
"Literally fuck the FDA with a million rusty dildos. Those idiots don't know what they are doing or talking about"
Oh, they know exactly what they are doing. The sickcare industry is a cash cow, and the FDA/Big Pharma are in cahoots.
Pharma Kopeia was always a death scam...

People are pretty much people. Hawai'i has some pure Hawaiians, a lot of Japanese, some Portuguese, and some white people. A few other people as well. People in the lower socioeconomic classes make less money and tend to eat cheap, industrially prepared foods... things made with processed grains, that are made to taste good (with flavorings and sweeteners). They also use a great deal of omega-6 seed oils. Obesity is not a character defect. It is actually multi-causal. Diet is probably more important than exercise. Mark Sisson of Mark's Daily Apple said that 30 minutes a day is probably fine for exercise.
Anyway, I am not trying to be anyone's friend here. But throwing Mexicans and Blacks under the bus is really not being an upstanding citizen now is it?
BLACKS ARE THE FATTEST GROUP IN THE COUNTRY....
You PC Douchebags throw truth and facts under the bus.....
Conspiracy to keep us fat?

Right up there with the "War on Poverty, The War of Drugs, The War on Terror....
All of which are paradoxically named to distract from the details of the conduct of the war that serve to perpetuate ad infinitum the alleged conflict these scams depend upon.
Now its the war on "them".
From a business standpoint, there is no profit in a healthy population, much like there is no profit in having a world devoid of wars and conflict.
Problem. Reaction. Solution. This is what makes the world go round, unfortunately.
Think Agenda21
Just like patients with Lyme disease are told that is 'easy to diagnose and cure' or 'the test was negative you don't have it' then patients are told 'it is all in your head, here have some anti-depressants'
If the disease is recognised in the early stages it is far easier to treat with antibiotics, it is when it is left that people have a lot of problems and then need lots of drugs
It's funny that the medical profession COMPLAINS ENDLESSLY about over diagnosis in the US... but those same doctors turn around and then refuse to actually run all 20+ Lyme tests.
(HLA-DR4 isn't even FDA approved, which creates a rather psychedelic chicken and egg conundrum with the Lyme vaccine that was pulled because too many of the test subjects were already infected with Lyme disease which lead to undesirable [non] side effects.)
And while it may be "easier" to treat with antibiotics it may not be "better" since you are "burning the village in order to save it" (with variance across patients).
One of the craziest things I've ever heard were "scientists" claiming to find Lyme in a 5000 year old mummy. Except for maybe Bowen and Igenix modern tests are very unreliable. By the time the dubious results are in BB is often established and very difficult to eradicate. Diagnosis must be clinical. I think this mummy is part of a rouse to dispel the fuckups at Plum Island.
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/oetzi-iceman-mummy-alps-lyme-disease-la...
How is DNA testing supposed to identify the presence of a bacteria? (could just be abc news anti-logic)
But even if the bacteria is present, how does one date the introduction to bacteria to Oetzi's lifetime?
But Lyme is certainly older than Plum Island, and oddly epidemic here in Europe. Fortunately there are a number of private clinics, if someone wants an approach like Cowden, instead of spray and pray with toxic chemicals.
If diagnosed very early (immediately) I think ILADS approach makes the most sense to me. That would be bacteriocidal dose of doxy, amoxy, broad spectrum for typical coinfections/variations but I'm not a doctor of course. At least in Europe care givers don't have to hide alternate treatment options like coordinative resonance (aka rife). BB is pleomorphic imho. Bergdoferi's remarks on BB are very interesting.
I have worked in quite a few hospitals. I have met a myriad of physicians. Some were profoundly gifted, some were not so great. Most physicians will decide their course of action within a few minutes of meeting their patients. For some physicians, it is really just a job. For others it is a passion. The take away is this, find a good M.D., they are not all the same.
PCR has been used to detect and identify Borrelia species in ticks and can be used for detection in humans, although the sensitivity is apparently inferior to serological techniques.

Interesting papers, thanks.
If I ever win the lottery I'm going to finance a lab, culture BB, then examine the bacteria while bombarding with coordinative resonance frequencies. I know I could do it. It's amazing it hasn't been done already.
the solution is easy and the author is dead wrong. you dont have to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. you have to stop eating refined and processed carbohydrates, sugar, and anything that comes in a package because it probably has high fructose corn syrup. you have to follow a strict low carb, preferably paleo regime to get healthy, and once you are there you can reincorporate the shit food like sugar, bread, pasta whatever, after HIIT exercise, because "cardio" is a total scam. workouts should consist of extremely hard sprints/bursts for about 30 seconds followed by a minute rest for no longer than 20 minutes total, no more than 3 times a week.
all of the aforementioned diseases are metabolic diseases, which means that something is wrong with your mitochondria's ability to process energy. the above diet and exercise regime is an easy way to fix your mitochondrial health naturally. no gimmicks. just eat like our ancestors, sprint (bike, running, swimming, weightlifting all ok) and stop jogging like some stupid asshole.
PS
vegetables, especially those of the cruciferous variety, are extremely healthy and should form the basis of your diet along with grass fed meat, fish, eggs and healthy fat like grass fed butter, coconut oil etc.
fuits are pretty worthless because of their high sugar content, except for berries.
Tell me about crossfit Broseph!
crossfit? personally never done it. dont want to hurt myself. you should never do repititions until failure with heavy weight in a compromising movement, for example, lifting a barbell over your head. crossfit is a great way to get injured and then shoved into the health care/medical industry machine, and that is not somewhere i want to be.
edit: best book on health ive come across is "body by science" by doug mcguff. basically everything you need to know about exercise and how diet impacts health in a book that takes a few hours to read. for pure diet, check out the warrior diet, eat stop eat, and any book by a "paleo" author.
Crossfit "pullups"
/lol
Just busting balls. I incorporate some of the HIIT techniques and I eat a very clean diet. Not averse to carbs though. Whatever works for you is best.
i actually use carbs a decent amount, but that's because i want to grow. different people can eat different diets. im low carb/clean probably 5-6 days a week, and then ill fast 2 days a week and do HIIT weightlifting in the afternoon, after which i eat whatever i want. usually it's a 2500+ calorie meal that would make most people cringe. you know pizza and chili cheese fries and the like. dont gain any fat and still build msucle, which is my goal. for that you can look at john kiefer's carb backloading. but that's for people who are already healthy.
If anyone values my sorry-ass opinion, this guy is pretty much spot on. Eating a diet that consists of recently living things, instead of stuff in a package is what people did for hundreds of thousands of years. FGB
I do p90x. I dont own it. I just follow along with the infomercial if I happen to catch it.
A tablespoon of raw flaxseed oil every morning covers a multitude of sins. I can't eat cruciferous, broccoli in particular. I just ate several nice roasted asparagus last night and shit all morning. That stuff is a gut flusher for me so I only eat it if I want to flush my guts. I find that an Avocado per day is also a good food. I like sugar but I am not diabetic. I run 1.25 miles, lift weights for 30 minutes right after that and then do yoga in a 190 degree sauna for fifteen minutes about four times per week. I have some pretty strenuous exercises that hit my core and my legs in that weight regimen. I am 6'3" and weigh 190 and I am 59. I weighed 185 in college and I was 6' 3.75" then. I beat colon cancer after being diagnosed stage 3b almost 9 years ago.
daily fasting (intermittent) every morning covers a multitude of sins better than anything you can ingest.
How can sugar be bad if mitochondrial respiration consumes glucose & fructose aerobically? Raypeat.com
The killer is in plain sight: polyunsaturated fatty acids (aka essential fatty acids). You know, the ones proclaiming to be heart healthy.
because you overload your mitochondrias ability to process sugar by eating 3-6 meals a day and having perpetually high insulin. sugar in your bloodsteam is actually highly toxic, escpecially to brain cells. so when your mitochondria are getting too much sugar, it starts building up in your blood. your brain doesnt want that so it upregulates insulin, which is a fat storage molecule, which links up the sugars into tryglycerides and then stores them as fat.
that's like saying your cells use oxygen, why is it bad if im breathing 100% oxygen all day everyday. well, it becomes poison at large concentrations/doses, that's why.
Within your answer lies the flaw in this article, it's not so much what we eat, it's how much. If you ate nothing but sugar, sure even HFCS, but only 1,000 calories worth, you'd be skinny as a rail. (Yes, yes, you'd eventually get terribly sick from the lack of other nutrients) But there is a large part of the population eating WAY more than 1,000 calories per meal, as you say, 6 meals a day.
so youre telling me if i ate 2000 calories of spinach a day i would have the same body composition as someone who at 2000 calories of sugar a day? totally false. both quantity and quality make a difference, however the type of food that you eat has a much bigger impact than how much we eat.
I was making a simplified generalization to make the point that the key is quantity. Let's put it a different way, which is healthier 2,000 calories of sugar a day or 10,000 calories of spinach a day? At least 2,000 of sugar a day wouldn't kill you - 2,000 calories of spinach is about 20 pounds worth which is almost certainly a lethal dose of oxalic acid and probably iron too.
Oh, and guess what's the principal ingredient in feeding tube formula, the stuff they give to people in comas, etc? Yea, it's sugar and corn syrup.
It would be very hard to eat 10,000 calories of spinach. Your example is simplistic and MEAN SPIRITED. Take a look for yourself rather than making shit up: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/26... . 10,000 calories divided by 65 calories (per 10 ounces) works out to 1,538 ounces. That is 9.6 pounds of diarrhea inducing spinach. Eating 3 pounds of vegetable matter is a feat (try it). So all the rest of what you said is now just you shooting your face off ( almost certainly a lethal dose of oxalic acid and probably iron too ) One can not eat that amount of spinach. Comparing iron to organically bound iron is simply UNTRUE. As one can not eat that amount of spinach, the oxalates are not a problem either.
Your example of what they feed to people in a coma is also MEAN SPIRITED. They used to feed neonates on TPN (total parenteral nutrition) a whole bunch of sugar, amino acids, and soybean oil. The babies died. Yeah, bad idea there. High omega-6 fats along with high fructose caused liver damage.
They used to feed babies who could eat, sucrose and fat free milk. That was another failure.
Honestly, do you get up in the morning and just want to make your family ashamed???
The thought of 2000 cals of spinach makes me want a thick porterhouse.
i believe running for a time and distance sufficient to kick your body into lactic cycle about once a week is extremely healthy. exactly what is jogging, is it running at some preconceived pace? if i run 13.1 miles at a 10 pace am i jogging, if i kick it up to an 8 pace is it running?
just a long time runner, challenging some of the data that someone somewhere wrote.
Just getting off the couch is great. Walking is really nice. Running is f'ning fantastic. If you run 13.1 miles you are way ahead of pretty much anyone. How you do it is really not the issue.
youre right, it is. getting lactic acid buildup in your muscles means that your body isnt able to meet your energy requirements through the anaeorbic or aerobic metabolisms. this actually makes your body start a hormonal amplification cascade where you start cleaving massive amounts of glycogyn (sugar) out of your muscles. it can restore insulin sensitivity in diabetics and in healthy people it actual helps you grow new mitochondria, among a whole host of other benefits, which literally makes you stop aging.
by the way, i dont differentiate in betwen running and jogging. HIIT is sprinting, which means that you should only be able to maintain the pace for 20-30 seconds. when i do HIIT i start to get lactic acid buildup in on about the 2nd - 3rd cycle (20 second sprint, 40 second walking), and push through until 8, after which i usually have to spend a few minutes panting on the ground. it's extremely difficult but you get used to it, and then you look forward to it.
the health benefits comes from reaching the point lactic acid buildup. you can achieve the same thing "jogging" or "running", but the time and distance, and thus the wear and tear on your joints and limbs, are much greater.
There are also bacteria in your gut that they are learning has a lot to do with staying healthy. If you eat correctly and exercise, you promote the good kind, but there are bad as well. Sugar is bad because it tends to feed both and make them grow. We need to eat probiotics to promote good gut flora and we need to eat prebiotics (basically veggies and whole grains= fiber) which feed the good gut flora.
+1
Prebiotics, probiotics, exercise, paleo. Perfect Healt Diet.
Exactly as DR Al Sears, who advertises on ZH, would say. We should all read his advise on paleo diet.
lol you're silly. Fruits are worthless because of their sugar contents? Our over-dependence on macro-nutrition is probably one of the leading causes of poor healthy in America. Eating an orange is far, far healthier for you than eating a candy bar. Honey is far healthier than refined sugar.
Sugar itself isn't bad, nor is fat, cholesterol, or sodium. The kinds we eat and how we eat it can definitely be bad.
Don't negelect the many micronutrients that are necessary for full-spectrum health like magensium, maganeese, selinium, iodine, etc...
What does this mean??
Honey is very high in fructose. Fructose is almost 100% cleared by the liver. Fructose is not healthy, it is pretty much a toxin.
Sugar is bad because 50% of it is fructose. Fat (saturated fat) is not bad. Cholesterol is not bad. Sodium (to taste) is not bad. Eating a high amount of omega-6 fats is really dangerous. Eating rancid (oxidized) polyunsatured fats is like eating lit firecrackers.
Do you just make stuff up?? Magnesium Manganese Selenium Iodine. Magnesium is found abundantly in plants. Eat what you want. Manganese should only be eaten from living sources (like shell fish). Selenium should only be eaten from living sources, like shell fish and nuts. Iodine should only be consumed with selenium, otherwise your TSH will rise.
It is not like I am trying to be anyone's friend here, but some people are not even trying .

Bro, you've got religion. You're way to certain about what you're saying. That should make anyone listening head for the hills. You're just as convinced in what you say as the docs have been about low fat the last 50 years.
Learn some humility. History is a good place to start. Understand that the more you know, the more you will realize how little you know. There are no simple answers to complex problems. Unfortunately.
That said, I reckon you're generally on the right track. Probably. I wouldn't fucking know.
I'm sorry, is that a hairy pussy and a pair of tits for your avatar????

Is smoking as bad for you as being obese. Where are the do-gooderers on this topic calling for bans on Maccas?
It's only bad if the money says it is. Soon everything we do will be regulated or illegal.
I just snicker when my buds tell me about how good the Natural Spirit Cigarettes are for them.
They're the same folks who tell me I'm crazy.
After sticking with American Spirit's 'organic' pouch and flax or hemp papers and rolling my own smokes for the last few years, I recently purchased organically grown whole tobacco leaves and a leaf shredder.
https://www.leafonly.com/cigarette-tobacco-leaf/organic-tobacco-leaf
For the one hand-rolly cigarette I smoke each morning with coffee, I don't think I can get any 'healthier' than this.
not sure if you want to quit. i smoked for 9 years (im not yet 30), and thoroughly enjoyed it until a couple years ago. when i was a smoker i always wanted to be able to smoke sometimes but not be controlled by cigs. unfortuntaely i could never make it work, until i found e cigarettes.
i used them to quit 3 years aog now. if you havent tried you have to give it about 5 days before you give up, you will get used to the nicotine delivery system. what it did for me was break the mental addiciton to smoking, which i found is by far the hardest to break. the physical really isnt bad and only lasts 48 hours at most. the e cig allows you to separate the mental addiction from the physical. i used the e cig for about 6 months and then dropped it completely. now im exactly where i want to be. if im with some friends who are smoking or ive had a long day and want to drink some beers and have a few cigs, no problem. dont feel bad at all. but when i wake up the next day i dont feel the need to go buy a pack.
just some friendly advice. did wonders for me.
Thanks Bro, appreciate the words. Don't know when I plan on 'quitting' though, and I'm not sure if I want to 'quit' entirely. My relationship w/ tobacco is not that of pleasure/vice, though it started that way. I don't smoke more than one cigarette a day, and only smoke the 'organic' hand-rolly if I need it to help with the morning bathroom trip (I do, most mornings). It's purely for digestive system clearing purposes, in conjunction with coffee. Most days I don't smoke the thing in full - just a few puffs before the desired result is acheived.
one of the guys i went to high school with had a very attactive mother. i went to boarding school and played hockey, and in that environment all the guys "dip" (chewing tobacco) any chance they get. we found out one day that this friend's mother used dip the same way that you use your hand rolled cigs. it's weird that teenage boys are turned on at the idea of an older women chewing tobacco while using the bathroom, but there you have it. poor kid never lived it down.
I am excited
i've been running for more than 10 years approx 15 miles a week average and until 11/9/2014 i smoked a pack and a quarter of marlboro short reds. i used e-cig to quit, i got the good stuff from a vape shop. it took me 24 percent to stop. and i've stepped it down to 1.5 percent and don't hit it that much.
really weird part is i haven't noticed much of a difference in my running or my endurance or wind. maybe it takes longer or something, anyway e=cigs are extremely good to use to stop smoking. i know more than 10 people around me that haave used them and quit.
Smoker here. Like skateboarder, roll and mostly try to get some of the other "organic" (i know for non-smokers that seems silly) brands. Makes a difference for sure. I do not get the same physical feelings if I dont smoke for hours at a time like I did with Marlboro.
Did a fat person not like the article, and decide to switch the focus to a group of people that society (at least in the US) has already deemed unhealthy and disgusting? I am not allowed to smoke anywhere. But fatties can do what they like. And they get little electric carts to do it. :-P
You have surely seen the 'truth' campaign targeting yutes: "we can be the generation that puts a stop to smoking", all kinds of cig-demonizing commercials, etc. It's good in many ways, but it feels ever so majorly suspicious. Why does the teevee suddenly tell the chilluns to stop smoking? Wuuuuut?
Indian hand rolled cigarellos, called Bidi's, the best smoke.... :-)
And overall, smoking wise, I read something and gave up my smoking guilt forever.....
https://aadivaahan.wordpress.com/2010/10/03/and-tips/
What happened to men smoking pipes Gandalf...? I must be like one in a couple hundred thousand - don't see anyone packin'... Have to say though, one of life's great pleasures is a good smoke after a meal, or first thing the AM with a cup 'O mud.
Consuelo, my brother in pipedom - I do own a churchwarden. Used to use it on winter nights, especially when it's raining. The smell of damp earth and the taste of some good leaf... ahhh. Unfortunately, California's recent weather has not been conducive to rainy-day pipe sessions. When I go traveling, it is sure to come along.

Only people completly ignorant of science regard GMO as any different than non-GMO. If you drink a lot of soda with pure as the driven snow cane sugar, you'll be just as fat.
Sweden is the first country in the world to have a large percentage of its population move toward a low-carb, high-fat diet. It is also becoming the first country in the world to reverse its obesity epidemic. But keep eating high-carb, low-fat, just as Uncle Sam recommends:
Yeah that's it, it's a conspiracy. Nothing to do with stuffing your face. It is somebody elses fault. None of that personal responsibility crap. The McDonald's clown walked up straight up to me and stuffed my mouth with two of everything supper sized. I had nothing to do with it.
But fortunately there is a solution on the way. Now that cash will soon be banned, the government can step in and limit your food intake to whatever quality and quantity they consider healthy for you. After all someone has to do something about this epidemic right? You can't blame fatfuck for being fatfuck. It would be insensitive.
"So why doesn’t the medical establishment [or any other THIRD PARTY] do more to help us lose weight and keep it off?"
Why the fuck should it be a function of the medical establishment to help ME control what I stuff MY face with, and park MY ass on for too many hours per day?
If Americans want to reduce obesity, there are simple solutions which generally involve STOP CODDLING THE FATSOS.
They aren't "weight challeneged" (or BBW) THEY ARE FAT- UNHEALTHY & UNDESIREABLE (BOTH SEXUALLY AND FINANCIALLY).
It wasn't until "they" said it was "OK to be fat", and not pick on the FATSOS, that everyone got FAT.
Simply make it socially unacceptable (again) to be fat, and a large chunk of the problem will simply melt away, at no public cost.
No conspiracy. A whole lot of people have no self respect and just don't care how they look.
They fattened up the South to avoid another civil war. Probably contaminate the water supplies with pacifying downers too.
Not sure about this. As far as I recall, Americans were fatter in the 90s. The trend is to eat healthy. Of course a lot of black women especially are just sickeningly obese. But the trend toward obesity is more pronounced overseas for example Thailand. Compare today, loads of fat Thai women, that was not the case 20 years ago. Here where I live, not a single neighbor is fat.
Back in the 60's it was RARE to see a fattie. Maybe one or two fatties in school and that was it. Moms were thin too.
It was in the 90's that everyone started inflating.
Now we're told fat is beautiful. No. Fat is disgusting. The person may be beautiful but the body is grotesque.
You have to eat less if you want to weigh less. Exercise doesn't work too much; not even jogging 35 miles a week. Heroin will make you thin and keep you from catching the flu but it has side effects. Just stop eating. Learn to get along with gravity. Think of all the fat fuckers that are dead. Think of whether you would like to be fat as road kill on a hot summer day that can't keep its arms to its sides like Wozniak and have as much money as he does or be in the shape you are in with as much money as you have. And remember above all else that fat people stink.
Not for me. If I eat less - I just get tired and irritable and nothing else changes. When I get up off of my ass and actually move around and do stuff I get fitter, feel better, and any extra weight disappears.
Amazing!
THere are 10 junk food restaurants in every corner in USA.
A lower IQ score in childhood is associated with obesity and weight gain in adulthood.

Why doesn't the medical community do more to help people not be fat? Is zerohedge fucking kidding me? I thought this was a libertarian minded blog where people are supposed to accept responsibility for their own actions. And the medical community needs to do more? Look at the advances that the medical community has made in the last 100 years! AL Sharpton used to be 400lbs, thanks to the medical community that piece of shit is still living.
All people have to do is look in the mirror, realize how revolting they are, and put down the Big Mac.
Look. OP is a faggot. No question about that.
I don't know why ZH is reposting this crap though.
BTW Diet books, etc., are all part of the miasma of the "Self-Help" parallel universe.
Most people who use them as a crutch (as opposed to research materials) do not really care to improve themselves. And if they "fail" to lose weight, etc., will simply blame the diet as in "I tried that and it didn't work for me." The failure is in general, not the diet, etc., but the commitment of the individual itself.
A grand example is the person who has gone to AA meetings for multiple years and it only finally dawns upon him that he has to not drink to make AA work. No, he can't have a drink now and them, FFS!!!! (True story)
So the joke about the library is of great truth:
Guy goes into the library, asks the librarian where the self-help books are
She says; "If i told ya' it'd kinda defeat the whole purpose."
so people are literally paid to be universal sluts..
Humans are not ruminants. The seeds of grasses (grains) have no place in the human diet, much less becoming the foundation of it. Real, single ingredient food is the way to go. No, sugar is not a single ingredient food.
They are finding this is far from true. Our gut flora do need the prebiotics that come with whole grain and the fiber of veggies and fruits. We can not digest them, but the gut flora can and they release chemicals our bodies use.
as a former cancer patient, clear & healthy since 1979 I saw the headline & didnt even bother read the article. I cure all my own problems now when they occur which is rare, never get colds & havent gotten ill for years
of course peope are getting fatter, its an agenda, what do we think diet products are for? they make you more hungry... DOH
Simple rule is, if it DON'T come off the branch, the vine or out of the ground... don't eat it!
if its been processed, chances are it'll kill ya slowly, quickly if you eat more of it
We're the only species on the planet who drinks milk way after suckling time is done, everything else drinks just water for hydration, we have coke, beer, shit sold in liqour bars & all kinds of crap... wanna get ill / die young, keep eating & drinking it.
if ya wanna speed that up some more & drop down even younger, use deodorants / aftershaves, shampoo, use unnessary cleaning products in the house, have wifi on, use a mobile phone not on speaker & cook your food in a microwave. Don't even mention GMO's.
Anti biotics, do permenant damage, lead to cancer of the gut & destroy the immune system FACT, hence its in most of the animal meat out there, they're sick & we then eat them. If you have a problem where you need anti biotics, in virtually all cases just make some "pro biotic", yes its that simple, the opposite of "anti". ( one easy to do example, take the water of a coconut, drain it into a clean jar, lid it up & leave at room temp for 3-5 days, drink anytime after then, tastes like puke, but works brilliant, lasts weeks in a fridge after & can be shitloads cheaper than paying for toxic crap that kills!)
Sugar causes depression, the cure is to eat bitter foods & it will go. Simple rule, the sweeter you eat, the more bitter you are, the more bitter you eat, the sweeter you'll be!
When the diet is wrong, the drugs are of no use
when the diet is right, the drugs are of no need.
My God we've all been dumbed down from the simple basics, eat the diet we ate 100 years ago & you'll live longer than that, its your choice ;)
Youtube "Dr John Bergman" the guy saved my life!

Reduce your risk of heart attack by 75%.
Donate blood twice a year.
Once before the summer months.
The bastard Cardiologist would just prescribe a blood thinner.
Another drug you don't need in your body.
Wake up fools, and stop eating like pigs.
Iron is an interesting topic. I have read studies and one e-book linking high iron to heart problems, macular degeneration and other diseases. The iron toxicity theory is interesting when considering heart disease, it would make sense that men come down with high blood pressure first, women obviously lose more iron during reproductive years.
Makes one wonder if the archaic leach therapy actually worked in some cases even though they had no idea why.
P.S. Since everyone is talking bowel movements I just wanted you to know that mine are going good. ( ;
Yep,that is what the white powder does to you.
It is well established that sugar makes you think that you're hungry; it's true in the sense that sugar is empty calories, devoid of vitamins and minerals. So you crave food. But your apetite is being fooled; you have already ingested too many calories for your work output.
Fats and proteins induce feelings of satiation , so you eat less. Just avoid the trans- fats.
It is that simple
Do you really want to know how to lose weight?
Shut your mouth and stop eating you fat cow! Ya, you... the one who claims they eat like a bird but weigh 400+ pounds....cmon!
That is plain wrong ; you need to eat satisfying foods - fats and proteins.
Zero sugar , bitches!
OK, I admit it...I'm the 400 pound cow :(
*stuffing my face right now with an extra large pepperoni pizza*
Dam I'm satisfied..
Just eat the topping; give the rest to the chickens . . . they can handle it.
It's awesome today, but what about tomorrow?
Caesar:
Let me have men about me that are fat,
Sleek-headed men and such as sleep a-nights.
Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look,
He thinks too much; such men are dangerous.
Related to all of this is the explosion in "auto-immune" diseases.
They don't even know what causes your thyroid to die, adrenals to crash, and all other hormones to go out of whack - but they are 100% positive it has NOTHING to do with your diet.
Graves, Hashimoto's, MS, gaint cell arteritis.
Get the industrial "gluten" out of your system. Clean up our diet. Strong-lifts 5x5.
And fire your doctors.
If your are taking heart meds, being treated for diabetes and depression you are just a med-slave to the system.
You're a blood-bag.
They are literally harvesting your life from you to buy their new yachts.
Dude, I just flew back and forth from Europe, and I was terrified that my seat would be next to half the passengers. At least half of the women and men were 300 pounds, and most of those under 5 feet 6 tall. Freaking stwardeses passing out seat-belt extender at the doorway. Airlines need to crack down on these people, and they should be required to purchase 2 seats. Obesity epidemic is most obscene in transatlantic flights. I mean really, people know when they dont fit in the freaking seat, ...so buck-up and pay double, or stay home. Rant.

Possibly entirely WRONG...Bert Herring MD has looked into WHEN you eat. If food intake is confined to a single block of 5 hours ...weight loss occurs even if you eat fatty foods. This is free, no 'product' diet. YT has a TED talk he gave. In 14 minutes you'll learn everything you need to know though there is a (free) 40 page ebook you can download which details the science.
We need to stop making assumptions, blaming the wrong culprit and look for the reasons our asses have gotten enormous.
I am using this and went from 165 to 150 in 4 months. I eat ice cream and occasionally cheat.
It is no a gimmick. It requires some discipline of course but it is easier (my opinion) than promising yourself that 'next time' you won't eat the whole bag of chips.
Check out his FAST FIVE diet...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHQbg4xH9lw
PS ...look at all the experts on this topic!!! Read the comments on this blog. Everyone thinks they know the answer yet no one has a stick of data to present except their own (highly regarded) opinion. Herring is very specific in his claims (almost none except that it works for him and several others who have done testimonies. There is evidence that insulin levels may be at least partially responsible for failing to burn fat but more study is needed. Til then....I'm sticking with it.
There are also studies that show that underfeeding lab animals increases life span by 30 to 50%. No data for humans but I'm betting it is also true for us.
The key is quanity. If you limit yourself to 1,700 calories a day, you can eat whatever you want and you won't gain weight.
1700 Cal/day mainly as sugar and you're dog tucker ; don't fool yourself.
But I thought restaurants like Chipolte & shake shack were so healthy which is why 'trendy people' eat at such places.. The stock prices of both have gone parabolic. Target also has this mini fast food outlet in all its stores.. people are buying pizzas, hot dogs and other crap that passes for food. I don't know how they eat that (75% of customers are either overweight or absolutely obese).. Just looking at that is nauseating..

On the bright side, Americans are the most prepared for a world wide famine.
Since America is causing all the existential threats naturally we know what's coming. One step ahead of the crowd and you're a bloody genius, but if you're two steps ahead they call you 'crazy'. Crazy like foxes we are.
The idea is to use a pantry for storage - not a fat ass!
What if one suffers from Depression, Anxiety or Bipolar disorder and is forced to take anti depressant or anti psychotic medication just to function normally?? Many of these medications do have side effect of weight gain

They have to eat less and exercise more. Problem is people on anti-depressants usually don't care how they look - another side effect.
It doesn't work to eat less and exercise more when you're taking those things; really it doesn't. They screw up your metabolism in in a major way. Taking SSRIs triples your risk of diabetes, and it's not due to the weight gain; it's due to changes in mitochondria.
If you search the web, you'll find a couple of interesting articles about how sugar may be the cause of many forms of depression because it screws up your blood sugar levels. Try a zero carb diet and see if your mood improves. My mood improved but the diet sucked.
mijev, you might try using cinnamon to get a similar effect; it helps regulate blood sugar.
JMT, that is such a problem. Twenty percent of Americans are on psychiatric drugs, and most of those drugs cause weight gain. I have an acquaintance who just gained 35 pounds over a few months on antidepressants; she was a little pudgy and now she is enormous. When I quit Paxil I lost 25 pounds almost instantly (fortunately I hadn't gotten to obese, but it was close). I really don't think there is an antidepressant out there that doesn't have that effect. But sometimes if you keep at it you can find alternative treatments (I found Greenblatt's "Breakthrough Depression Solution" very helpful). Curcumin, fish oil, cinnamon, magnesium, zinc, methyl-folate, B12, D3, B6 and low-dose lithium orotate (not regular lithium!! a supplement you can buy on Amazon) can all be very helpful.
You'd have to search high and low in the world to find the size of portions that they serve up in the USSofA. Only god knows what Monsanto get through the food chain also.
The portions will get smaller shortly though as the rich harvest stolen by the corps abroad is coming to an end. With a bit of fortune Americans will have Ethiopian physiques.
even better would be the 'skinny man' who thinks he has escaped only to find...
Eliminate processed foods and added sugars (especially HFCS), and the rest will be – ahem – a piece of cake.
1) Ethano mandates and corn subsidies, which resulted in
2) GMO industrial corn, and
3) Designer pesticide, courtesy of Monsanto, which
4) Produces corn in prodigious amounts, though not fit for consumption is easily converted to
5) Corn syrup
6) Which by virtue of subsidies and mandates has brought the price of
7) a half gallon of Slurpee down to about a dollar which is great, since EBT won't work at 7-11, and
8) due to the hyperglycemic effects and insulin dumps, vascular inflammation starts young, as does
9) the cariogenic effects, which basically is lactic acid produced by bacteria to rot the dentition.
So, the author asks, what is to be done to avoid yet another generation of toothless, obese diabetics?
Well, giving up the corn subsidies is out of the question. Maybe moar education, and programs, and funding . . .
just.so.dumb...
Failure rate of diets is up in the high 90% range. Dieting does not work.
The real problem is lack of exercise. i.e. You drive everywhere. Why drive? Because the cities and towns are designed for cars/buses.
The problem is people go back to stuffing their faces with crap. If your diet is *changed* you won't gain the weight back.
Exercise is just one part of a healthy lifesytle. I advise people on a 4 step approach to health:
1. Increase Oxygen (ie. add a little food grade hydrogen peroxide to water), Water, Minerals (sea salt)
2. Exercise
3. Healthy diet (http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-05-29/america-obese-there-multibillio...)
3. Don't stress, relax, sleep
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neonicotinoid
Neonicotinoids are a class of neuro-active insecticides chemically similar to nicotine.
...
People are addicted to food is why. Think how your bodies metabolism will go out of wack when being yo-yo'd up and down by low level imperceptible drug addiction all day every day between meals and after long periods of sleep.
Slow drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip via the digestive tract now. It is not an appetite suppressant when ingested in food.
Number of factors but in my observation, we are witnessing Feast Before Famine. If you would take a look at statistics for weight gain of US citizens, 911 was turning point. The content of the ingredients these people have available to them is not designed to keep them alive until 100. Fatty liver disease, diabetes, kidney failure and gallbladder disease along with digestive tract are just some diagnoses showing up in people as young as their 20s. Medical community remains SILENT on these OLD PEOPLE'S DISEASES showing up in the young.
That they are ill (half sick) only adds to the stress of getting through their day. It's a slow kill for sure and an abomination considering US phycisians (just like US personnel in banking structure) are aiding and abetting in the destruction of the health of citizens. War for decade will leave the most productive generation, the next leaders, in a state of shell shock if alive. Americans are being targeted from every angle and it's the most painful thing I have ever witnessed in my life.
We call it maize.
processed food is designed to be addictive. many foods have chemicals termed obesogens among other things.

It is no wonder that so many Americans are fat and in poor health; there is virtually no one giving sound advice on what is actually healthy food. If you are obese, the "experts" will tell you to eat a high fiber, low fat diet... plenty of whole grains, etc. In essence, most people end up eating a high carb diet that makes it literally impossible for your body to burn its own fat for fuel.
http://www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com/ketogenic-diet-plan.html
I have been on a keto diet for a little over a year; have lost about 20 pounds and have had no problem maintaining while not worrying about 'point counting' or any other nonsense. In a state of ketosis you can pretty much eat what you want when you are hungry to the point of satiety. Hunger between meals vanishes; the 'hangry' feeling where you shake and need to reach for a snack is completely gone.
It is mind boggling when talking to most people or even doctors about healthy eating and how little anyone really knows. We are being lied to by everyone including the Government (thanks for the food pyramid!), and "health" orgs like the Heart Association who peddle and promote grains and carb rich foods which do nothing but turn to sugar almost immediately in your digestive tract, jack up your insulin and keep you feeling hungry and starving. I personally had to really go out and look and do my own reading and damn did my eyes ever open up.
The video "Fat Head" is another good movie that people should watch. I don't see the obesity epidemic getting any better as long as health experts keep up their rediculous mantras of fat being evil and bad for you, and grains and carbs being healthy.
True, the Big Food Companies dictate to Governments/the people what is healthy. What is healthy is what makes them rich. Fibre contains a lot of phytic acid and is therefore an anti-nutrient to the body. Fibre should be avoided unless you have a healthy gut with at least 80% good bacteria. Good bacteria make use of the fibre as a pre-biotic. However, most westerners have closer to 80% bad bacteria in their gut, so phytic acid in fibre just sucks out minerals out of teeth/bones destroying them.
I do regular water fasts. Within a few days your body goes into ketosis. Instead of losing 20 pounds in a year, you can lose that in a month with basically no muscle loss.
Shit, I got Cinnabon frosting on my keyboard!
it's ok, just eat all the food you want but don't drink water. It's called a water fast.
Not only are foods highly processed, they also lack basic nutrition and nutrients. Veggies nowadays contain just half of the magnesium of a century ago because intensive farming has depleted soils. Other minerals also lacking. Magnesium very important for nerve and brain development and muscle and nerve contraction.
Not that Americans or Europeans eat enough veggies in the first place. Perhaps just the lettuce on their burgers.
We lost our connection to food because unlike a century ago where many people produced their own foods, we are not at all engaged in that. Children in inner cities think that milk comes out of a factory and that pasta grows on trees.
You fat Americans need more probiotics/enzymes in your diet, you pasteurise everything. Consume Raw milk from grass fed animals, raw sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha, etc. Swap white sugar for raw sugar. Ferment your grains (ie. Sourdough bread). Eat grass fed hormone free red meat and wild caught seafood. Don't eat GMO foods, prefer organic. Replace unhealthy fat (vegetable oil) with healthy fat (butter from grass fed cows, coconut oil, macadamia oil, hemp oil). Drink lots of fluoride and chlorine free water. Finally, nothing detoxes, heals and drops fat like a water fast.
I think you are correct. Read my comments as to how we BOTH feel when we live in Portugal, every other year. THERE IS SOMETHING HERE in our Food that makes us BOTH sick. We are seriously concerned about what is IN our food here. We do not eat any more, very low carb, and eat more animal here, but not much in terms of portion sizes. I am over 60 now and feel better due to weight loss but our food here makes my gut ill pretty much most of the time. When I am over there, I heal and feel way better. This is not my imagination.
Sadly, the truth is that obesity has become a national epidemic, and we are known around the globe for our huge size.
Aren't you like 20 years too late with this comment?
Nowadays many countries are close to matching US obesity rates.
I especially love how the medical industrial advises the elderly to stop eating fats. Being that your brain is largely made of lipids is this a good idea? Old folks are going brain dead left and right with brain damage and shrinkage... go figure.
We are just beginning to find out what the consequences of GMO are and I would hazard a guess we are not going to be seeing many people live beyond 65 in the future and those 65 years are not going to be full of vitality.
COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret.
[A]nimal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean “dead zones,” and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged.
11 Weird Things Sugar Is Doing to Your Body:[1]1. Sugar wrecks your face.
Sugar Stat: Sugar in your bloodstream attaches to proteins to form harmful new molecules called advanced glycation end products, or AGEs. These unwanted invaders attack nearby proteins, damaging them, including protein fibers in collagen and elastin, the components that keep your skin firm and elastic. The result of too much sugar? Dry, brittle protein fibers that lead to wrinkles and saggy skin.
There's more! AGEs promote the growth of fragile collagen and deactivate your body's natural antioxidant enzymes. This opens the door to more sun damage, which, as we all know, also damages and ages your skin.
Sugar Smart Tip: Beware of natural sweeteners, too. Agave products boast a higher fructose content than high-fructose corn syrup! For a sweet treat, use up to a teaspoon of honey no more than once a day.
If you eat all you want and you diet at the same time to fool yourself and others, you will never lose weight.
Friend said: "I cannot lose weight. I exercise but nothing happens." I explained to her that you also need to cut down on calories.
Answer..... I can't
is this even possible?
If you eat all you want and you diet at the same time
