Maybe their negotiating strength would be weakened if common Americans had a clue what is going on and started acting up.

As has been my habit, I'll be a cynic and assume they're lying. Kirk supported nafta, go figure.
The "industry leaders" calling the shots are klepto cronies collectively bargaining against the labor of the sheeple. They're forming a union, something they profess to hate when the sheep do it. Lincoln said something like "capital is the fruit of labor". Kleptos don't see it that way and want complete control of the global flock with gov appointd the task of iron-fisted shepherd, something they're good at and eager to contnue.
