FIFA President Sepp Blatter Resigns, Calls For New Elections: Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: FIFA PRESIDENT BLATTER RESIGNS, CALLS FOR NEW PRESIDENT TO BE ELECTED

Below is his full resignation speech:

I have been reflecting deeply about my presidency and about the 40 years in which my life has been inextricably bound to Fifa and the great sport of football.

I cherish Fifa more than anything and I want to do only what is best for Fifa and for football. I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organisation. That election is over but Fifa’s challenges are not.

Fifa needs a profound overhaul. While I have a mandate from the membership of Fifa, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football — the fans, the players, the clubs, the people who live, breathe and love football as much as we all do at Fifa.

Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as Fifa president until that election. The next ordinary Fifa Congress will take place on 13 May 2016 in Mexico City.

This would create unnecessary delay and I will urge the executive committee to organise an extraordinary congress for the election of my successor at the earliest opportunity.

This will need to be done in line with Fifa’s statutes and we must allow enough time for the best candidates to present themselves and to campaign. Since I shall not be a candidate, and am therefore now free from the constraints that elections inevitably impose, I shall be able to focus on driving far-reaching, fundamental reforms that transcend our previous efforts.

For years, we have worked hard to put in place administrative reforms, but it is plain to me that while these must continue, they are not enough. The executive committee includes representatives of confederations over whom we have no control, but for whose actions Fifa is held responsible.

We need deep-rooted structural change. The size of the executive committee must be reduced and its members should be elected through the Fifa Congress.

The integrity checks for all executive committee members must be organised centrally through Fifa and not through the confederations. We need term limits not only for the president but for all members of the executive committee. I have fought for these changes before and, as everyone knows, my efforts have been blocked.

This time, I will succeed. I cannot do this alone. I have asked Domenico Scala to oversee the introduction and implementation of these and other measures. Mr Scala is the independent chairman of our Audit and Compliance Committee elected by the Fifa Congress. He is also the chairman of the ad hoc electoral committee and, as such, he will oversee the election of my successor.

Mr Scala enjoys the confidence of a wide range of constituents within and outside of Fifa and has all the knowledge and experience necessary to help tackle these major reforms. It is my deep care for Fifa and its interests, which I hold very dear, that has led me to take this decision. I would like to thank those who have always supported me in a constructive and loyal manner as president of Fifa and who have done so much for the game that we all love. What matters to me more than anything is that when all of this is over, football is the winner.

Which is as we predicted a week ago. Recall:

What happens next? Sepp Blatter's reelection this coming Friday, which until yesterday had been guaranteed, is now virtually assured to fail as Putin's frontman at FIFA is shown the door. What else likely happens? Following some dramatic procedural changes, Russia loses the hosting of the 2018 World Cup.

And now, let's see how FIFA strips Russia of its 2018 World Cup hosting, which also as noted previously, was the entire reason for the sudden and unexpected DOJ crackdown on FIFA, whose corruption has been well known for decades.

As for Qatar, generous donor to the Clinton Foundation, and host of the 2022 World Cup, we don't expect much if anything to change there.

* * *

Following overnight news that yet another former FIFX executive, this time Jerome Valcker, former top deputy to FIFA president Sepp Blatter, may be involved in the latest money laundering and corruption scandal, one involving a $10 million transfer of funds, which has been presented as an alleged payment of bribes over South Africa's bid to host the 2010 World Cup, moments ago the FIFA president announced he would hold an imprompty press conference. Will Blatter finally announced his resignation? Find out now.

Is there anything the US wont try to manipulate and rig?

This will further destoy US banking. For who in their right mind will put a transaction through a US bank when this can happen?

Oh, so your'e not a US citizen or conducting business in the US - well you wired some money through a bank that has a branch on US territory - so we will hunt you down and kidnapp you, until you do what we want!

That's actually funny... I don't understand why you received a down arrow <g>.

Blatter will not resign unless the Swiss extradite him to the USSA.  Since he is a  Swiss citizen, I doubt this will happen.  Nevertheless, if I were Blatter, I would put all travel plans on hold, lest something 'bad', by pure luck of course, happen to his private plane in mid air.  See Panama Plane Crash, Omar Torrijos.

Certainly FIFA is from top to bottom is corrupted and has been for many years.

But USA does not have a dog in this fight and should be expelled from FIFA for damaguing the sport.

Blatter is not more corrupt than others but it was just too much pressure. I bet the FBI said either you step down or we'll press charges against you too. Yesterday he was still saying he would attend the women soccer final in Canada. Well I guess that's the last final he'll attend as FIFA president. Such is our world that corruption is only persecuted when there are bigger interests at stake! In this case I'm pretty sure it's Russia....

You know this is about ways to piss each other off between O and Putin.

I say who gives a fuck, it's soccer. BFD. You can only BRIBE those in power. FIFA has no power other than over the members of FIFA.

Pay to play is all this is.  I say go for it.  They should give soccer players knives too. Make for a faster game.

FIFA will be at the forefront of all the talk as the Clinton slush fund for arms foundation to blow up brown people around the world slowly fades.

THAT is a bribe, because State actually has power.

It is more than just a minor pissing match between O and Putin.  But even if that is all it was look at the lack of influence by Putin.

FIFA is huge outside of the US.  There is enormous PR and perception potential in hosting the tounament.  The US/Israel is not as interested in the postitive PR to Putin by hosting as they are the negative PR and public humiliation that will be delt out as they move to have Russia removed as host.  Every accusation and slap across Putins face will get huge air time outside the US and it will be effective even though most will understand it is political.  Why effective?  Because it will be a public showing of how they are in control and Putin is just a little kid who cannot compete.

If Putin has any remaining influence he better use every bit of it to prevent a US/Israel puppet from winning the reelection.  A real chess player would now take control of the new election, get the right person elected and then have the new president declare that the US dollar is not to be used in any FIFA business.  That would turn the tables.

But what Zerohedge does not want to have discussed, and what is more significant.  Is this is about Israel having the power to force the US to do their work again.  This is about Israel being criticized and potentially sanctioned by FIFA.  That is what this is really about.

Stop displaying your retardedness.

Just because you never know whether to first eat all the super size french fries or your big mac, doesn't mean that Putin doesn't know his priorties.

THE VOTE ON THE EXTENSION OF THE EU/OBAMA SANCTIONS COMES UP IN LESS THAN A MONTH, AND PUTIN IS GOING MAKE SURE THEY'RE ENDED BEFORE HE MOVES ON TO FOOTBALL.

So if Blatter is gone by YE 2015, how will the plotters take away the 2018 World Cup from Russia?  Everybody predicts it, but how will it be done?  Will there have to be a vote?  If so, I can see that splitting FIFA right down the middle, because that is how the vote went last week.  I'm thinking fisticuffs and name calling and lawsuits - and that is just from the African and Asian delegates, who voted for Blatter.

The above observation is spot on, and look here: http://blogs.wsj.com/moneybeat/2015/06/03/qatar-risks-economic-hangover-...?

The WSJ blog has already started on the propaganda campaign to ensure that Qatar are portrayed as the 'good guys', who are "spending on infrastructure projects in education, transportation and healthcare", not for the world cup, but "to meet the demands of their growing population". A cynical person would laugh at this suggestion.

We should not be surprised to soon read a WSJ article or blog post villifying Russia for "winning" the bid to host the World Cup in 2018. In fact, one suspects the Russians already know what's coming, judging by this quote from TASS:

"Firstly, the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York is conducting a criminal investigation into the awarding of media, marketing and sponsorship rights for soccer tournaments in the United States and Latin America. Secondly, the Swiss Office of the Attorney General is conducting a criminal investigation into the selection of Russia as the host country for the 2018 World Cup and Qatar as the host country for 2022."

This whole affair with the arrest of FIFA officials & corporate execs by the FBI & US Attorney General contains a much larger geopolitical battle of 'tit for tat' between the West (US, UK, EU, Japan) and the East (Russia, China, EEU, ASEAN).

Could this be the West's response to the recent ban by Russia, on 89 EU officials to enter Russia?

The petty, childish, 'sandpit fighting' mentality of the globalist despot says "YES".

FIFA was, is & always will be corrupt. It was corrupt before Blatter. It will be corrupt after him. This whole affair with Blatter & the FIFA officials & corporate execs is a sideshow..."look over here...look over here...look over here...these guys are bad & should be removed" and that will fix FIFA from corruption. This is so you don't "look over there", where you will see the reality that the whole of FIFA, regardless of Blatter and the currently arrested officials & execs, was, is & always will be corrupt. It is built into that organisation's DNA, no matter who is in charge.

Just look at their income & outgoings:

They spent more money on the mysterious category of "Other", than they spent in all the other categories of Outgoings, except for the World Cup Tournament itself. That is not surprising for a corrupt organisation.

As for Russia, they will now have their 2018 World Cup bid revoked, and Qatar will remain as hosts of 2022 because they, unlike Russia, are "spending on infrastructure projects in education, transportation and healthcare", not for the world cup, but "to meet the demands of their growing population". </sarc>
