Rick Perry Spent 27 Times More Per Vote In 2012 Than Clinton Did In 2008

Tyler Durden's picture

On Thursday, Rick Perry announced that he will run for President — again.

The former Texas Governor’s first bid for The White House was beset by a series of embarrassing missteps, including a rather unfortunate debate gaffe wherein Perry pledged, if elected, to eliminate three agencies of government but after naming the first two, couldn’t remember the third. Then there was the infamous New Hampshire incident, which saw Perry deliver an incoherent stump speech to supporters before examining a bottle of maple syrup while donning a mischievous grin.

But perhaps more seriously, Perry was indicted last year on criminal charges. Here’s a brief recap from The New York Times

Mr. Perry has another problem that could hurt his campaign: a criminal indictment. A grand jury in Austin indicted him in August on two felony charges of abusing his official capacity and coercing a public servant.

Mr. Perry pressured the Democratic district attorney in Austin’s Travis County to step down by threatening to cut off state financing to the anticorruption unit in her office.

The district attorney, Rosemary Lehmberg, who had been arrested on a charge of drunken driving, remained in office, and Mr. Perry ultimately vetoed $7.5 million for the anticorruption unit.

Mr. Perry and his lawyers have denied any wrongdoing, saying that the veto was lawful. Both Democrats and Republicans believe the case could hinder his campaign. “I’d be surprised if the electorate regards a felony indictment for abuse of power as a qualification for the presidency,” said Craig McDonald, the director of Texans for Public Justice, the watchdog group that filed the original complaint against Mr. Perry.

In any event, if Perry wants to mark a successful comeback in 2016 and spoil Hillary Clinton's inauguration, he'll need to be a bit more efficient with his campaign dollars because, as the following graphic shows, despite spending less in his 2012 bid than nearly every other 'serious' (and we use that term very loosely here) candidate in the last three elections, Perry paid 27 times more per vote in 2012 than did Clinton in 2008.

Assuming Perry somehow makes it out of the Republican primaries, the above suggests he may have a rather difficult time against the imperial Clinton aristocracy...

Luckily, he forgot how much money he spent per vote.

if you are one of those who believes that this clownshow of an economy cannot possible hold together for one term of the next president, a vote for hillary makes sense, if you decide to vote. If its a republican thats in office, no matter how much of a big govt, central planning authoritarian you are(pretty much all the republicans qualify) the melt down will be blamed on their 'free market philosophy', even though we have nothing of the kind. At least with hillary, you don't have to worry about that. And i feel like martial law, the military firing on civilians, etc, occuring is a bit of a stretch with hillary telling them to do it.

Of course i thought the same thing during the 2012 election once romney became the nominee.(no, Im not saying I actually voted for BO, just saying I didnt think this shitshow had another 4 years, and Id rather it collapse on his watch, jokes on me I guess)

His image people literally went on the MSM several months ago and said the new look (glasses included) was to make him appear smarter, because they said he actually is a really smart guy.

I'm with you PAF. If I had 2+ .gov pensions/salary, a no-work, no-show 7 figure job + hot paralegals waiting for me at a texas law firm, speaking engagements, and sheldon adleson willing to sponsor rock star presidential campaigns every four years (rolling, romaing, tax-free road trip party for cronies)

... I'd spend the two grand on lasik too ...

Mr. Perry sounds like a scum sucking globalist war monger. Just heard a snippet of a speech appealing to the military industrial complex to ramp up and expend war against people that we invaded when they did nothing but try to exist independently of the western powers.

That said, we might have saved the Republic if we had elected him in 2012.   You would have had a roll back of federal lawlessness in matters of immigration enforcement, obamacare rulemaking, EPA rulemaking, judicial overreach into local events like "Ferguson" and "Baltimore", no Jade Helm, no bomb giving to Iran, actual constitution loving judge appointments, etc.   With that boob in office.

Rick Perry is the Bush-boy back-up to Jeb ... since Jeb is flailing miserably.

However, as we know from 2012, Perry cannot tie two coherent sentences together without becoming confused or saying something incredibly stupid. In other words, he is a perfect Bush stooge.

You may also recall that he was the Bilderberg choice coming out of their 2011 meeting. Then he kept stepping on his own dick.

If they can keep Perry's mouth closed then they may have a chance. Or maybe he has received the new upgraded Obumma brain implant.

Go down to your town hall with a letter stating that you revoke your voter registration. Once you register you have agreed to abide by every shit piece of legislation, statute, regulation and code as your "power of attorney" was given to whomever got elected.  Just because you got suckered by lies and voted for the treasonous  scum doesn't give you the choice of not complying with unconstitutionally invalid laws that they enact.

Perry is just getting in to play spoiler against Cruz. Take away Texas money and (if it gets far enough) Texas primary voters.

Divide and conquor, split the "tea party" vote, so that Jeb can buy his way to the nomination. The payoff comes if Jeb wins the nomination and Perry makes it onto the ticket or perhaps a cabinet post if Jeb wins the general election.

IF you go to the WaPo link and look at the other chart, Hillary spent the most with $231 million, while Rick Perry spent the second smallest amount of money coming in at $19 million.  Perry just didin't have as many sheeple convinced, so therefore ended up spending more per vote.

Don't care for him at all, but does this moronic writer think that if someone is running for president they shouldn't allowed to spend money on campaign advertising to try and get their message out, that it should only be reserved for the candidates annointed by TPTB?

Get what message out? Our elections are won by hundreds of millions of dollars spent by Super Pacs for corporate interests. They don't really give a fuck about what the people want. They market, package and sell us on what we want to hear and when in office they don't do anything but push through promises made to big corporations. If you are a one percenter and work for Goldman Sachs you get what you wanted.

And we will be treated to what will seem like an eternity of media attack ads, junk mail, robo calls and senseless drivel about the same worn out and tired issues. Nobody other than Rand Paul will talk about the steady erosion of our constitutional rights, just race baiting, attack ads and neocon warmongerers in both parties hoping, praying for WWIII.

Why even vote???

It's like the senseless voting in the Soviet Union, Brezhnev versus his opponent. The Soviet state hand picked the winner. In todays USSA the cabal and corporations have hand picked their winner!!!
