Caught On Tape: Cop Pulls Gun On 2 Kids, Unleashes Profanity-Laden Tirade In Affluent Suburb

I’ll be up front with you and say that this video is disturbing.
It’s like a bucket of ice-cold water thrown in the face of the dream world that most people are walking through.
Watching riots on TV in places like Baltimore and Ferguson, it’s easy to think, “That couldn’t happen here. All that police violence only happens in poor communities.”
Guess again.
This weekend it was the safe, quiet suburb of McKinney, Texas, about 30 minutes outside of Dallas.
McKinney is no gang-infested slum; it’s an affluent bedroom community with an average household income over $96,000 according to Colliers International.
(Having grown up just a few miles away, I would add that it’s pretty sterile too, full of big-box retailers, megaplex cinemas, and chain restaurants.)
Over the weekend some local kids were having a summer pool party to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
With that many adolescents crammed together in one place, there was undoubtedly some silly teenage drama going on. And police were called to the scene.
One of them starts off almost immediately screaming profanity-laden tirades at the kids, many as young as 14.
This courageous officer’s advice to young people included such gems as “Sit your asses down,” and “Don’t make me fuckin’ run around with 30 pounds of goddamn gear on. . .”
At one point throws a girl to the ground who had apparently failed to ‘get her ass out of here’ with appropriate alacrity.
You can see him grab her neck and attempt to shove her face into the pavement.
The kids all start screaming. Two of them rush over to try and help their classmate, at which point Captain America pulls his gun out and advances menacingly towards them.
They bolt. So he turns his attention back to the girl, grabs her head once again, and screams “ON YOUR FACE!!!” as he pins her down on the ground and puts her in handcuffs.
It’s really disturbing to watch.
Had it been a parent trying to grind his kid’s face into the pavement, Child Protective Services would have immediately removed the girl from the home and the father would be rotting in jail this very moment.
But when a police officer does it, he goes on ‘leave’. And only when he’s unlucky enough to be caught on camera.
If some random stranger grabbed your child and started attacking her, you’d instantly turn into Bruce Lee and put the guy in a Kung-Fu death grip.
But when a police officer attacks your child, the government expects you to just stand around and watch.
That’s one of the most disturbing things from the video.
You’ll see there are a bunch of adults in the video milling around with their hands in their pockets while the kids get abused.
I appreciate they’re doing whatever they feel like they can do to make the best of a bad situation.
But they’ve been indoctrinated for so long that their reaction is to be obedient and submissive. They don’t interfere with ‘the law’. They know their place and they act like it.
The kids, on the other hand, are all still young enough that they haven’t totally subordinated themselves to the state. There’s still a part of them that’s free.
So when the cops get totally out of control, their instinct is to fight back.
That is, after all, our natural instinct– to be free.
We have to -learn- to be intimidated and subservient to the state. We have to learn to stand around with our hands in our pockets while our children are abused. And that learning takes place in none other than the public school system.
I checked the McKinney Independent School District’s website and found that these kids all recite the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning, including that part about “liberty and justice for all.”
They sing songs gushing about freedom in America. But they just got a taste of how free they really are.
Hopefully that lesson stays with them. It’s certainly more powerful that an entire semester of the mandatory civics class they have to take.
After watching the video I actually downloaded a copy of the staple civics textbook Magruder’s American Government, and found a rather prescient passage in the first chapter:
“This nation was founded by those who loved liberty and prized it above all earthly possessions.”
True statement. But that instinctive flame to be free has gone out for so many people, not only in America but across the world.
And no nation can rise again until that flame is rekindled.
The textbook continues:
“To preserve and protect [their rights and liberty], each generation must learn and understand them anew, and be willing to stand up for them when necessary.”
Perhaps that time is finally coming.

I think so too. We really need to stop as a culture 'taking sides' and then pummeling the other side into submission. The world is mostly made of 'normal' people who just want to make a living and be at peace with their neighbors. Instead we are fed this narrative daily (from all ends of the political spectrum) that everyone's out to get us and we have to take sides or get trampled. No wonder violence seems to be escalating where it was once uncommon.
Unfortunately though, taking sides and fights and controversy also sells newspapers, and TV shows, and blogs like this.

I don't think we (in America) are at that point yet where a despotic government tramples on its citizens as policy. It may be coming at some point long in the future, but at that point it wouldn't be called "United States of America" any more.
Like I said, I believe most people don't want trouble - they just want to live and let live. I'll agree though that things are heating up, and we certainly need more people in power who represent the traditional values and virtues of this country, rather than some of the snake oil salesmen in power now who would like to just pillage what they can and promote their own personal glory and agenda.
Did you miss all the civil asset forfeiture going on? How bout that due process contravention in the New Defense Authorization Act of 2012? Patriot Act trampling the 4th Amendments freedom from unlawful search and seizure? the Constituionality of Executive Orders? The 'work-around' for posse comitatus? WE ARE PAST THE POINT OF A DESPOTIC .GOV TRAMPLING CITIZEN'S RIGHTS.

There was a birthday part. The party got crashed by some troublesome youth. The police were called and they responded. This one cop was trying to restore a semblance of order but the trouble-makers had him running from one place to the next as they separated and fanned out and still causing undo commotion, ALL in 95 degrees with humidity at 90% = a heat index of 107...
Now, the neighborhood you say is affluent. Well let me tell you, our government hides section 8 housing in affluent and darn near all neighborhoods.

personally I would not have approached that crowd and asked for them to behave in a civil manner (stop beating up residents and insulting them) without a loaded carbine and spare magazines as well as some backup.
I don't condemn his action but I genuinely think that was trained reaction and instinct, not what he actually would have done with time to reason it out, but I am glad he did it on training and instince because when he is actually surrounded by those that mean him harm he knows what to do. Tyler, really? I think you are overreacting again.
Given the number of young adults involved in this incident, and the fact that the video did not show what was said or what was done that alarmed the police prior to this incident (we only see how they reacted, not the events that lead up to it), I don't think we can conclude that the police were not justified in restraining these kids pretty firmly until they understood the nature of the situation. Also, nobody was injured.
If the police had acted this firmly at the very beginning when things began to escalate in Baltimore, maybe the tragic riots in Baltimore could have been mitigated as well.
Sorry, Tyler, I am not with you on this one until I know more about what happened prior to what we were shown on the video. I am prepared to change my view if we learn more.

I live in on a street that 50 years ago when the house were built was a completely white neighborhood. Now it's almost completely black. For over 20 years I lived next door to a couple who had their home built, raised 5 kids and retired. They were the old school type of neighbors; always doing something to the house and distant but pleasant. They got old and moved to a condo -- both died a few years ago and I hope they did so before they saw how badly their home was decimated by the public assistance trash that moved in next door.
Since the neighborhood "changed" more homes turned into rentals which further torpedoed property values so you could get a fairly decent house for little down and a relatively low payment. Yesterday 2 of the resident teens (there are no "parents" in this house per se, only a grandmother that doesn't seem to actually sleep there) got into an argument and the police were called.
This middle aged fat white guy got out of a cruiser and started speaking to one of the boys while the other walked down the street screaming threats and insults. The cop finished talking to the one teen and lumbered down the block to address the other one with his handcuffs out. The boy began to resist and become argumentive but the cop pulled out a taser and calmly pointed it at him. I didn't hear what was said but in short order the kid was on the ground and cuffed, then walked to the police car. Backup came and alot of discussion, people leaving the house, etc went on for about 30 minutes and the cuffed boy was released.
I was impressed.
It's summertime and the kids are out of school and everyone is outside. People get into fights, especially the kids. And things can get out of hand really quickly when you're dealing with angry kids, who have more energy than sense. And while I am enraged at the instances of police brutality around the country, it has struck me that we don't know what bullshit these guys have had to put up with in the past or be in their shoes. When things jump off the first thing we think of is "call the police". Then we get pissed when they don't handle potentially lethal situations perfectly. Yes they've done some pretty awful things, but 99.99% they are dealing with people and things we wouldn't want to deal with and are doing ok.

The problems in Europe are way overblown. Every time I visit a city that is supposed to be "really bad" it is like a children's playground compared to the cities I grew up in (Baltimore, D.C., Philly). Except Sweden. Even then, the problem is there are no white men with balls in the Scandinavian countries and the police won't protect white women from the epidemic of black refugees raping every white female ages 8 to 80.
You have to defend yourself. This is something that has been beaten out of Europeans. They are easy prey for anyone who wants to victimize them.
This is a few miles from me here in DFW. I think he may have gone a bit overboard with the agressive behaviour but really these kids are most likely from another part of Dallas and should not be causing trouble there. They were jumping the fence because they did not have access to this pool.
Within the last 10 years the city of Dallas expanded its DART light rail system to reach out to the suburbs and since then this sort of thing has been happening a lot more. I have progressively moved farther out from the city center to avoid this kind of situation.
Compare these views of google maps from Fair Park and McKinney. No one from the suburbs wanted light rail built there but they did it anyway and this is what we reap.

Cop told the young princess to leave at least 3 times. When he finally attempted to detain her when she failed to heed his lawful request she resisted. As he was trying to cuff her it appeared that two large strong youths were going to intervene and attack the cop while he was on his knees.
Cop pulled his blaster thinking he was alone and about to get head stomped. Other cops came and he put his blaster away.

I think the cop pulling his gun was a little over the top but I'll bet he felt threatened. Looks to me like two (rather large) youths were coming up on his back. That is good link and I hope everyone takes a moment to read that. We all know well that there is always another side to the story. I can see why the residents were pissed off and I would be too. I can believe trespassing and criminal damage to property occurred but I did not see what that girl did that warranted the level of force used by the officer. Drawing the gun was over the top excessive. I did not see where the use of deadly force would have been justified and even one of the other cops initially grabbed the arm of the cop who drew the gun but did nothing else to de-escalate the situation.
I see assault and I see unlawful arrest. I did not hear any Miranda warnings either. If I were the parent of that girl I would press charges against that officer both criminal and civil. I think at the very least that the officer should be discharged from the police department and not be allowed to work in law enforcement ever again. That cop can go work for Blackwater if he has anger management issues. The guy is not a civil servant but rather a thug.
I would also say that training for the Olympic 100 Meter High Hurdles is out of the question for that douche. Have a nice trip, see you next fall.
