Russian Nuclear Bombers Grounded After Plane Skids off Runway, Injures Crew
A Russian Tu-95 has overshot the runway after taking off in Russia’s Far East, resulting in injuries to several crewmembers. The four-engine Tu-95 (NATO codename Bear) is a long-range strategic bomber capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
As RT reports, the accident has prompted the Russian Defense Ministry to temporarily freeze all flights carried out by the aircraft.
"The accident occurred during a practice flight at the Ukrainka airfield in the Amur region at 17:00 Moscow time,” said the Russian Defense Ministry. “The Tu-95 overran the runway during acceleration. There was no ammunition onboard. According to preliminary information, a fire in the engine was the cause behind the accident.”
“While leaving the aircraft, several crew members received injuries of various severity and were hospitalized,” the Ministry representative added, who mentioned it was about to take-off on a practice flight.
A special commission from the Air Force command arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. Under the Air Force commander-in-chief’s decree, Russia’s whole fleet of Tu-95s will remain grounded until the investigation is complete, a press release from the Defense Ministry stated.

And no wonder the country's social media erupted in World War 3 panic fears.

Outdated tech.
Sure it is.
Just wait for the first EMP to hit and see what happens to the US fly by wire technology.
We'll be scrambling to find an old B-29 to get those nukes in the air.
Rumsfeld did it.
Did you see this American in Donbass?
http://youtu.be/UZHkYs9C14A
now is our chance to strike, mr president!
if we were to launch a full scale pre-emptive nuclear strike, we could win this thing with modest casualties - 10 million, tops!
great movie... dr strangelove
nuclear war is great if you're they guy in the bunker with 100 women to repopulate with. might suck otherwise. of course, life in a bunker with 100 women might suck too.
Wait until their periods all sync up 6 months in or so, you will pray for radiation sickness..
long tampax..

I work with all women...trust me, it sucks ;)
Powerful video.
I am surprised Minsk II is still holding together. I can only assume Russia is telling them stand down and wait for the Ukies to strike. I assume the Ukies are trying to get the Russians to strike to look like the bad guys.
People with lots of weapons poking each other. Both sides want this conflict, the question is when and where will it start?
I watched it as well.
What always gets me is the common man everywhere just wants his little place to call home and be left the fuck alone.
Then along comes government...............

Engine failure at 100 feet on takeoff is a scary flight regime for a pilot. Wheels are up but you have to fly the aircraft around the pattern to land. Engine failure at 50 feet usually you land again and probably run off the runway. Sounds like they followed procedures. It is normal to ground all aircraft until you have an idea of what happened. All normal.
Bears have been around a long time.
Propellers for christ's sake.

Counterrotating 11 foot monster propellers awesome aircraft..
can you repeat please? i've got 11 foot counterrotating propellers in background. do you copy? can not read you. 11 foot monster propellers chopping through air. loud as fuck. can you repeat?
A modern turbofan engine is _almost_ as fuel efficient as the piston engines used at the end of the second world war. Propellers on aircraft will always have a niche.
What killed the piston engine was the lack of reliability/ short life compared to jet engines. 1000 hours on a high performance piston - 25,000 on a modern jet. TU-95 are turboprop, not piston, but the efficiency is still there compared to a turbofan.
But piston props sound so beautiful
WTF? No fire suppression system on them?
Should have lifted off, shut down bad engine, climb out to dump fuel while activating fire suppression, land aircraft or eject.
They were just upsized b29s with turbo prop engines anyway . And not much better than a b36
Knowing what caused the Kursk disaster, it's got to be a maintenance issue causing this TU-95 engine fire.
And that's why they're grounded so the Russian AF can review and revise maint schedules and procedures
BTW: Great video on B-57 Canberra:

It's not the bombers that we or Russia needs to worry about. It's the ICBMs and especially the SLBMs. Those are hardened. If not, they wouldn't fly with or without EMP. And not all of them need to work to do the trick.
Subs.
They got a few, operational and non operational on the sea floor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_submarine_K-129_%281960%29
It only takes one that is functioning.
NOT few but many are operational moreover you forgot to add irbm's .
Once in flight, EMP won't be a factor. Ballistics will take it to near the target and atmospheric backup trigger is all mechanical inertial targeting after SS4 model.
FiFi!

+1 for the B-29 part.
The tu 4 was a exact copy of b29s that flew to Russia after battle damage from raids on Japan. The tu 95 can trace its lineage to those ac
Soviet owed much of their technology and manufacturing to US (Ford/GAZ etc.)
Looks like Russia goes down even without an EMP. Puuuuutinn !
Can't use the B-29 after an EMP. Unprotected vaccum tube avionics and control system motors. You'll have to go to to a B-24 or a B-17 for heavy bombing. No big EMP on the fission side, that's why Enola Gay and Bock's Car worked. Maybe a B-36, since they did shield that monster for EMP a little.
I'm so glad this didn't happen in the U.S.
I would hate to have my ZH browsing interrupted by DHS Stazi in full tac kicking in my front door, killing my dog and cuffing her, paralyzing my my kids while kneeling on their necks, and waiving their Israeli-made machine-guns at me screaming "...Show your hands! Get on the fucking ground. NOW, ASSHOLE..."
They would later begrudgingly explain that my house was near the cloud and they were conducting house-by-house Patriot Act Sweeps for any terrorists carrying nuclear backpacks.
"We don't have to explain anything to you fucker... OBEY US!"
F-35 is state of the art (sic) but it:
1. Can't fly.
2. Can't fly in the rain.
3. Will go down in flames if it gets hit with a .22 or small (and big) shrapnel.
4. 9 to 11 million lines of software code is not done or debugged.
5, Can't turn, can't run, can't fight and stealth is a scam.
it's pretty good at destroying budgets....
Too cheap to bankrupt The State....unfortunately.
So they can still sell them to some tribe in Africa where they roll them down opposing hills at each other.
It's Bush's fault..
Yes fuckface,it is Bush's fault.
Probably missed its 5000mi oil change. Might need to sharpen those props while they're at it.
This is why you drill and train. Even the best in every field have one of these once in a while.
John McCain was quoted as saying "We need to attack them NOW. While their defenses are down!"
Looks like you've pissed off a couple Mcshitstain lovers.
You ain't doin' so bad in that department yourself, my friend. (I down-voted you, just so this whole damned thing looks as bad as it possibly can.)
And guess who down-voted this post? Me!
< Lots of trolls with upvotes.
< Lots of trolls with downvotes.
I down voted both of us just for good measure. The down vote is the new up vote. Kind of like common core is the new math.
Junkfest? Count me in! I downvoted you, um, just because.I'm going to downvote myself too.
being a contrarian, i upvoted you
Troublemaker. I don't know if I should down vote you or up vote you, so I'm abstaining.
Alright, I'm in!
Junked!
Down you go
If youre abstaining, then you are still making a choice, no?
Make sense , bad news is good news yada yada
i still want a question mark
Who? Attack the USS Forrestal that McCain almost sunk?
Or attack the USS Liberty whom his father recalled F-4 Phantoms scrambled to save the crew of the USS Liberty.
Pappy Adm McCain then had the US Navy slowly sail to the aid of the USS Liberty, probably hoping the crew and witnesses were dead.
Who were the first people to arrive at the USS Liberty to offer aid to dying AMERICAN sailors? - The Russian Navy.
A navy with white christian sailors.
Freddie, that was a great comment!
No more vodka with your flight planning, Yuri.
lol cue in soviet jokes . Downvote is the new upvote . /sar

Those planes have been flying for 60 years. Grounding the whole fleet seems excessive for one incident.
We just grounded most of our FA-18 fleet because of corrosion. That design is only 45 years old!
Thunderhead forming. Cloud uplift hit the tropopause and is spreading out in the anvil pattern.
Or, a slow motion nuke with no effects. Maybe they can call that a "heat nuke?" /s
Combine that with a plane not being able to achieve liftoff due to engine fire and you have a nice, filling nothingburger.

This is in Russia. If it had been a nuke going off, somebody would have caught it on their dashcam.
Someone just starting their barbecue with some gas....
Lemme guess... Another Ammunition Factory and Depot had an "accident".

Makes sense. Not sure what day the "nuke went off", but it was in the 80s on the 6th, then cooled way down. Cold front passing=T-storms.

If you overshoot the end of the runway....I dont think you have taken off.....just sayin....
What a pretty cloud. A real nuke/mushroom cloud would be a lot windier.. and warmer.. and move pretty fast, but I can see how you'd be freaked out given these interesting times we live in.
As for a plane skidding off a runway - not sure why its news, happens all the time.
To satisfy mp.net fluffers that russian military is outdated and junk /sarc
"overshot the runway after taking off..."
Make up your mind.
Did it take off?
Or did it overshoot the runway BEFORE taking off...

TASS put it this way:

with an engine on fire the bomber did not have enough oumph to get off the ground. It probably had many more nukes on board than it was designed to take off with.
It was to bomb every soccer stadium in America, so that the US would not be able to host the 2018 World Cup.
Damn the Clinton / FIFA bitchez.
Truely a Carterseque moment.
Can't be an air or suface detonation of a Nuke. No flash was reported which must happen as the typical Beryllium-Polonium fission trigger gets going and speeds up the interstage for the "big show" fusion reaction. Even at that distance, there's surely be some hurt people with at least some heavily impaired retinas and no one has reported that. There would be plane wrecks, car wrecks, children with skin burns, etc. EMP effects even as far as 200 miles away.
The Bear problem is another unrelated but interesting problem. I'll bet they have a problem like bad brakes or weakened load structures due to corrosion due to extended operational lifetimes and rust like the one that's grounded nearly all of our FA-18's. IIRC, there's been no new design to replace that 65 year old design big bird yet. It's almost as old as the Gooney Bird!
The cloud is called a Lenticular Cloud. While not common neither are they rare.
As for the Aircraft running off the runway, I doubt that is the real story as Russia rarely, if ever comments on thier military mishaps. Why they let this one out of the bag and tell the world that the bomber fleet is grounded is beyond me.This likeley happened at a military base so the chances of this leaking out are miniscule.
What I would like to know is "what are they up to" by floating this story?
Cover story most likly for something such as refitting or even loading actual bombs. Sort of like john kerry and his biking accident.
Probably just ducking a stray Ukrainian SAM missile. After all, no one seems to be able to track those buggers...
Presumably Russia has other means of nuke delivery besides propeller-driven aircraft so please don't get any dumb ideas, neocons.
You do realize those are turbo props?
Squid
That's no nuke - looks more like the PetroDollar exploding as it gets replaced by the PetroYuan!
Nice, let's see if it holds together NWJ.
About those mushroom clouds...
That's what you get when you combine matter + anti-matter --> Pure Energy*. Via conversion of matter into energy, using E=mc2.

maybe they are testing atmospheric or surface nuclear weapons and they need a cover story ; they had an 'accident'.
i believe above ground nuclear testing and atmospheric testing are banned in the salt or start treaty. but i know they are banned.
maybe they used the weapon to send a massive wave of particles and xrays at a sattelite or high altitutde surveillance rocket .
or maybe worse, they were testing tactical subkiloton nuclear artillery that we knwo the u.s. tested many years ago. or testing a smart nuke bomb or something . hey. a kiloton is a kiloton.
"......taking off in Russia’s Far East,"
norks
Bet we have crashed more B52's than they have the TU-95's, and that clearly is a T-Storm cell building in the picture. This is a hyper bullshit article.
I know...in the midwest you see clouds like that pop up time to time 7 or 8 months of the year.
I dont know but to me, that cloud really look authentic as from the nuke. Or can there be such a natural event(doubt so)?
Topped out at a thermocline around 25,000 feet.
A picture guess is worth shit.
not a nuke.
No good date, time or location on any of it.
There are many more tells , including seismology , that will tell you soon.
Not all bombers are grounded!

Been a lot of aircraft problems there lately.
Maybe the lousy fuel mix they are getting from their "refineries".
cumulonimbus... BLOODY 20KM+
perhaps they are out of service so they can be loaded with bombs?
Perhaps they were testing Woodpecker at the same time they were taking off?
[ search 'woodpecker' at http://www.cheniere.org/books/analysis/history.htm ]
Got buzzed by them many times in the 80's. Were told if we are atleast 5 miles away, we can servive the wave that will roll us past the capsize angle. Last one I saw was 500 ft agl lmao!!!
Putin's got this....
http://tcbp.net/daJ
Sunset clouds also look like mushroom shaped nuclear bomb blast.
Once upon a time I saw it with my own eyes & started thinking the same way.
If it was a nuke blast, the cars would not be running because the EMP whould have made them all standstill.
Cold war is so HOTTTTTT.
Mabbee Russia should drop a sexdoll shaped as Putin on white house with a penis shaped small nuclear device.
