FIFA Kicks Wall Street Off Top Spot For Salaries
Greed is good... especially for FIFA officials. While Wall Streeters make bank and Hedgies pile up coin, Emolument.com reports that it is the soccer godfathers that make the real money...
“Financial industry professionals must be breathing a sigh of relief that FIFA remuneration is hogging all the limelight,” said Emolument’s Alice Leguay.
“The abyss between FIFA and the average non-profit is simply staggering, beyond the simple fact that FIFA employees made more than traders, who are often pointed out as the epitome of greed.”
Emolument based its report on data from 2,700 banking, hedge-fund and non-corporations employees. The compensation for Zurich-based FIFA and UEFA were taken from their annual reports, Emolument said.

See the footballers; some are making 250k a week, never mind annually. Though most of them are too honest to be crooks, so I don't begrudge them it.
You must have never spent time around professional athletes to think them angels. There is nothing new under the sun. Sports has always been a great way to launder money (transfer payments via "gambling losses") and sell overpriced concessions. The huge media apparatus around pro sports only serves to amp up its efficacy in these two key areas. Pro athletes are performers first.

The cost of living in Zurich is considerably higher than NYC (and London).
The median income in NYC is about the poverty line in Zurich (1/2 of median income).
GBP 250,000 is only 3.5x the median household income level and 7x the poverty line in Zurich.
Perhaps a comparison to traders and fund managers who live in Zurich would be more meaningful.

SPEAKING OF THAT. One of my kids was doing some fitness training in L.A. a couple of weeks ago They got talking to an African-American guy who was in great shape. He was also training. So they asked him ... what is your job? And his answer ... "Body Double" for a well known pro basketball player. You would definitely know the name if I said it. But I will save ZH from the lawyers today. So ... wht this "Body Double" guy does ... any time there s a photo shoot for the Pro Basketball player, the extra guy stands in for all the body shots. You know ... leg, arms, chest, all the photos for promo's. So NONE of those pix that you are seeing in advertising ... are necessarily real. It's all a GAME.

Professional Sport does not make money, it costs money.
Proof of this is plastered all over every "pro" sport uniform, stadium and piece of equipment.
Those astonomical salaries come from advertisers (sponsors) not the consumers of their product.
