WHEN the first nuclear bombs were exploded in Japan, some of the scientists who designed them were extremely uncomrtable. A deep pang of conscience. Not all the scientists - but some had deep reservations about the wisdom of unleashing that terrible "energy of destruction".
The scientists suggested an EASY ANSWER. Take all of the world's politcians and military leaders. Put them in a grandstand in New Mexico. Detonate a nuclear bomb a few miles away from the grandstand. Just far enough that the blast would be "safe", but close enough that every spectator feels the intense heat on their face. The scientists had that exacty the same experience during the Trinity Test, before Hiroshima. They knew how "powerful" this demonstration was for human beings.
It's still a VERY good suggestion.
Maybe then, we wouldn't have idiotic people threatening to actually use these weapons.

You make a fundamental mistake, that is the assumption that the political class are normal and would react like you or I. The political class are not normal people, they have strong sociopathic tendencies and they don't give a shit about you or anyone else, they only care about themselves.
I disagree. I think the idea is to remind the sociopaths that there is a real possibility that if they start a nuclear war, THEY just might be among the ones being burned to death. That seems to me like a good way to deal with the sociopaths.
I also think it would be good to broadcast the explosion on television. Make it as impressive as possible. Burn up a Dogpatch village. Flatten trees for mile around. Remind the population that nuclear bombs are not just gambling chips.

I say lets send these 'signers' and any politician, banker, or corporate executive who espouses these views NOW to Ukraine, Seria, Iraq, et. al. They will need some preliminary training to be able to cope with any confrontation with Russia. While we're at it, we need to pass a law that ANY politician who 'votes' (and voting must be mandatory) to go to War must first enlist anyone (females included) of blood decendency at least one generation up/down as a condition of this vote. Moreover, any company that provides 'tools' for this war also must do the same. My guess? The UN is not the world's police force. It is an international body that through dialog and diplomacy tries to prevent/solve a problem in the world. But often it is not a neutral body. There is a lot of political lobbying going on. And some countries don't stick to UN resolutions.
I desire a world without nukes just as you do but the genie is out of the bottle and I am afraid it will be hard to put it back.
What would help? Suppose somebody at CERN invented a countermeasure. Let's say some sort of counter weapon that when detonated at the right time (let's say some milliseconds after a nuclear missile is exploding) absorbs all the nuclear energy released. Like something that you saw on "Mars attacks".
