Caught On Tape: Police Beat Intoxicated, Mentally Ill Man Who Fought Mother In Street
Salinas, California resident Jose Valesco had a tough day last Friday.
Police initially responded to North Main Street and Bernal Dr. after receiving complaints about a man charging in and out of the street, screaming at motorists, and leaping onto cars. By the time officers arrived at the scene, the suspect — Jose Valesco — had apparently pinned his mother to the pavement in the northbound lane after she attempted to dissuade him from running into oncoming traffic.
Police gave Valesco several verbal warnings before moving in to pull him away. According to a press release, the situation soon escalated when Valesco was able to wrestle a taser away from one of the arresting officers at which point the other officers drew their tasers and deployed them.
What they did not know was that Valesco had been drinking heavily and smoking methamphetamine (which would appear to explain the whole charging around in traffic and screaming bit) a combination which ultimately rendered the tasers ineffective.
That’s when the batons came out.
What happened next was captured on the cell phone footage shown below.
But it didn't stop there.
Valesco, down but certainly not out after suffering what appears to have been a severe beating at the hands of five officers, was on his way to the hospital when he grabbed an officer and a paramedic through the rails of a gurney and attempted to bite them. At that point, he was "chemically restrained."
In the wake of the incident, Valesco's sister Antoinette Ramirez told The Guardian that her brother is "mentally ill." While not disputing the claim that Valesco was assaulting his mother when officers arrived, Ramirez did note that her mom "walked away just fine."
Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin acknowledged that "out of context" the video is "horrific and inflammatory."
McMillin went on to say that if ever there were a case where context is key, this is surely it: "If [Valesco] is mentally ill, methamphetamine and alcohol intoxication on top of that is all a recipe for disaster."
"He was incredibly strong because of the methamphetamine," he added.

I'm really getting sick of the entire police brutality propaganda circus. The police in Salinas used some force to arrest a dangerous drug user who was assaulting a woman. And the police are the bad guys? I'd like to see some of the posters on this board spend a few days as a cop and see how well they deal with such situations.
This is some sort of well organized effort to federalize all police powers so the likes of Obama and Hillary can use the police to silence their opponents. And it's all financed by George Soros.

Where are all the "good cops" everyone says outnumber the bad ones? In every case shown so far in the last few months, not ONE cop stepped in to stop the abuse. Not one cop refuted falsified police reports. Not one reported the abuse to his superiors. No, they all just covered for one another. A cop who beats the shit out of someone, and a cop who stands there and does nothing about it are ONE AND THE SAME. Good cops dont exist. If they did, they'd quit out of protest, or get fired trying to change the system.
Just watch how the second cop just stands there as the first kicks the shit out of the guy in Orlando (second video). Assuming there will be any consequences for the officer doing the kicking (doubtful), I'd bet my next year's salary the one standing there won't be punished at all.

I also grew up around cops. I can absolutely tell you there is a black and white difference between cops from 20-30 years ago and today. Pot should be legal, but it has nothing to do with meth. Anyone who wants pot can get it far easier than they can get almost any other illegal drugs.
Not sure what you're saying, but meth, crack, and heroin are no reason to make cannabis illegal. And I personally know Americans who do not use cannabis for the reason that they are terrorized by the government's threat of showing up at their door and stealing their house. I bet there are millions of such Americans.
And, again, I believe Andrew Jackson used a "medicine" which contained opium in his elder years. He had a lot of pain, including from that bullet he carried around in his chest most of his adult life. No drug is without a beneficial use.

Police need to learn some MMA/Wrestling. I've taken people down in bar fights with double chicken wings (I'm not a brawler, I've just taken people out who have been fighting others - obviously locking a person up in a chicken wing won't happen when the person is facing you). This seems like a situation where putting pressure on the suspect while he is on the ground (belly down) should be preferrable to beating him in the head with a baton.
Most people drugs or not can't do a pushup with 200 pounds on their chest.

At least Salinas with its population of 163,665 does not have the "white privilege" problem. Not too long ago Salinas, California, was half that population and was 90% white. It has since 2000 becomes one of the fastest growing Mexican populations in California, 76.7% hispanic in 2014.
