I hesitate to wade into anything Israel/Jewish/Zionist... but then I thought: I like Sanders, but he and these Jewish groups have zero right to whine about a legitimate question given the Perles and Feiths and Indyks and Fischers, etc.
In fact, it is rather offensive that they are trying to frame this as an inappropriate question. It is eminently reasonable, and without *more* - the question itself lacks the capacity to be anything more than a fair question.

So basically Zionism is a loose organization of people, mostly Jewish, dedicated in controlling the various governments of countries and people so as to plunder them--Zionism is a system of organized plunder that operates on a national and international level. A Zionist is a person connected and operating within that system for his and his cohorts' benefit--he both utilizes and serves the system of plunder.
A Zionist has no country but that of money and power.

To better understand how Zion operates, the Soros/Ukraine tyranny is a good place to start. Also the sheer number of Jews within the Bush Jr. regime. Ditto Tony Blair's regime. So the belief that Jews have a mystical right, qua Jews to "the Land of Israel" seems to be part and parcel of the Torah, hence core Jewish belief. As you know this preceded the Talmud. Indeed, the Pentateuch contains basically all the stuff about a divine contract for land in exchange for adhering to the god's rules, and marked by the sign of circumcision.

I don't know - it seems to me that, broadly speaking, the terms Zionism, Jew, Judaism, etc are at times used interchangeably, and other times distinctions are made which seems artificial.
I take it we agree that "Zionism" as a "nationalism" carries with it the typical sins, if you will, of any secular nationalism. The religious, chosen mythos is part and parcel of Judaism which is somewhat de-emphasized but lay at the core of the religion.
But sometimes, people seem to use "Zionism" in context which have nothing do do with fostering a Jewish temporal homeland, and goes more to alleged schemes and cabals working toward transnational *Jewish* power, dominance, etc.
To me, that isn't "Zionism" which can be more or less distilled to "Jewish nationalism" - which has both secular and mythic significance, just as "Jewishness" evokes both ethnic identity {or identities} and faith {or faiths - hard to say the Hasidim believe what the average Upper East Side reform Jew does - *except* some idea of Jewish chosenness and a divine grant of land!}.
Punchline - the sense in which "Zionist" is often used seems to me to be disconnected from nationalistic aspirations and more about an alleged megalomaniacal conspiracy centered on Jewish power per se.
Probably offended someone or other - not my intent, really just trying to tease out "Zionism" from what amount, imho, to something else, often labelled "Zionism" but really seems to be different - an allegation of a 'global plot' by a particular ethno-religious group, separate and apart from that group's support of an ethnic homeland in the Levant.
The Wikipedia quote was just to acknowledge the mainstream definition of Zionism--it was the best and most succinct quote that I had available. This is highlighted by the fact that I stated that that definition is a lie.

This is a general reply. The issue with Zionism is that many use the term as a code word for a "Jewish agenda" meaning that the world is run by Jews and they are evil. Others really mean Zionism as people who happen to be Jewish as well as the many others that aren't whom are plotting on the regular. Herein lies the crux of why this is an issue...Any, and almost every Totalitarian, Ideological and or Tyrannical group uses the Jews as a scapegoat for their purposes(and I'll get to why) i.e. Obama, Putin, Stalin, Hitler, Conspiracy Theorists, Palestinian(Hamas), Islam, Feminists, Neo-Liberal universities, certain Christian Sects today and in history and on and on and on. Here's why. Jews are an independent free thinking people who, other than the neo-liberal sell-outs, are the antithesis of the Collectivist. This is why those who hate the founding principles of the US and or the US constitution, also have contempt for Israel and Jews. This is why Obama hates BiBi.
