Round 1 Goes to We the People

George Washington's picture

Fast track authority for TPP – which would have assured the passage of a horrible treaty – was voted down today.

But Obama, Ryan and the powers-that-be are forcing Round 2 on Tuesday.

Conservatives and liberals BOTH hate the TPP. It's literally We The People versus the oligarchy.

Keep the pressure on … TPP will pass unless we raise hell.

Response, received today, FROM DUNCAN HUNTER's OFFICE.

He did pay attention to EMAIL, George Washington

God Bless you.

Mr. Thomas H. O'Brien
12223 Woodside Ave, Apartment B
Lakeside, CA 92040-7007

Dear Thomas:

Thanks for contacting me regarding Fast Track Authority (FTA).   I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

The first test of any trade agreement is whether it will create jobs and strengthen our economy here at home.    Past trade agreements have been sold on promises of economic growth and greater market opportunities, but millions of workers can testify that the reality is lost manufacturing jobs and growing trade deficits.    I   remain unconvinced that granting the President Trade Promotion Authority, which provides an expedited process   to finalize several trade agreements that the public have yet to see, and which Members of Congress will be unable to amend, will result in a better outcome.    That is why I could not support the fast track legislation that was considered by the House, and actively voiced my concerns to House leadership.

FTA was originally considered as part of a larger trade package that failed in the House.   However, when   TPA was considered as a standalone measure, it was approved by the House by a vote of 218-208, and now awaits consideration by the Senate.   Going forward, you can be assured that I will continue to be a strong advocate for strengthening American jobs and manufacturing.

Thanks again for contacting me.   If I can be of any future assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

                                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                                  Duncan Hunter
                                                                                  Member of Congress

Well, this morning I called my two senators and pertinent house members again, with the expectation of hearing that damned automated answering system. I did get an automated response, as expected. All of the systems were incapable of taking my recorded message, as expected.

Then I went outside and paced back and forth while ranting for about 5 minutes about having something shoved up my ass.

Here's the problem with this shit.  Not only does no one get to read it till it is passed.  But no one gets to understand the impact until it passes.  And they can sit back and try to pass it over and over and over and over again.  They can hold other bills hostage over it.  And they only have to get it to pass ONCE.  Once a trade treaty is in place, thanks to corporate, it's impossible to undo.

history rhymes, in the last two years of bush2 he and democrats agreed to an immigration bill which the gop house called amnesty and they rejected it. now repubs siding with obama, and dems defeating his trade bill. the same thing was unthinkable four years ago. which also makes me wonder if the new market cycle is the old politcal cycle. which means we crash next year. the people who choose the president with their dollars pull the bets off the table and the puppet show takes a break.

I would love to see Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” reenacted in the halls of the Washington Empire of Debt, Fraud, and Chaos today. That’s not going to happen.

Our legacy of corrupted, cowardly US Senators and Representatives will be terrorized and bribed into passing the SECRET, fascist Washington Empire trade mandates which nullifies American soverignity, Congress and American law.

. It is only a matter of time. This is pure totalitarian fascism.

My favorite thing about this is the so-called betrayal by Paul Ryan.

I have friends that are not as far along the realist spectrum as me, and so had faith in the Tea Party, Rand Paul, and Paul Ryan instead of preparing their minds for the coming revolution. Wishful thinking? Delusion?

This Paul Ryan TPP thing has pulled the rest of the rug out from under them--"Welcome aboard the Realist Express..."

Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission..

They knew, just knew, that the Repubs. would repeal/stop Obamacare. I always had a great laugh at that one, and am still laughing, while they are not amused.

I agree. It was a great joke. The R's are going to fight to the death to overturn Obamacare once we elect them.

Not so much....

At this point I don't even think a 3rd party or Convention of the States will even do anything. The rule of law only works when the people in charge follow the law. The ruling aristocracy in DC and NYC just do what they want without regard for law. I think we need a long bloody revolution to wipe the slate clean of the elites

Ryan, McConnell, Boehner...all deserve to burn in hell.

Round 1 was the "bidding" round.

Now power can get their "bids" together for round 2, the payoff round.

Liberty is  a demand. Tyranny is submission..

As I explained to my father lastnight, the Dems., and the left's biggest backer, labor/unions, have begun to figure out that they have a manchurian candidate in their midst, CIA-Obama. They are now starting to resist, or at least up their desired payments from Zion for their cooperation. The next round should see TPP pass with more Dem. "support."

We must forgive GW as he occasionally gets taken in with the droll political theater as the rest of us, and as much as we'd like to think Pelosi is finally working on behalf of the people instead of her whorish political life, things aren't that simple.

Allow me to publish a copy of a comment from The Guardian (guardian.co.uk) from commenter, ImaHack:

Things are a bit more complicated than they're portrayed in this article.

The Pelosi-Boehner trickery has moved on. The “pay-for” to offset the anti-Medicare provision in TAA [reducing Medicare spending by $700 million to pay for the TAA] was put into the “Africa aid” bill (retitled “Africa Aid and Repeal Medicare Offset”), and the Africa bill passed in the House.

In addition, the anti-Medicare provision has been separated out of the TAA bill — “rendered moot” per Kevin McCarthy’s latest leadership memo, because the Africa aid bill has passed — but it will be put back in by the Rule after the voting is done. (Yes, really.)

McCarthy (http://m.weeklystandard.com/blogs/trade-vote-set-friday_969201.html):

"After passage of the trade preferences bill tomorrow, the House will consider the Rule to bring up the TPA/TAA bill and the customs bill. Instead of dividing the bill into two questions (TPA & TAA), the Rule will divide it into three questions (TPA/TAA/sequester). Since the House will have already spoken on the sequester provision, the Rule will consider as adopted the question of the sequester [anti-Medicare language] with no further vote since it has been rendered moot by the preferences [African aid] bill. This will leave the House to vote only on the remaining issues under the Rule: TPA, TAA and customs."

“Sequester” means “cuts to Medicare,” and as I said, language reversing that was put in the “Africa” bill and passed. The trick is that the Rule now means there will be no direct vote on the offending TAA language.

But a vote on the Rule is still a vote on the Medicare provision — it’s a vote to hide the anti-Medicare language in TAA, then reinsert it if TAA and TPA both pass.

McCarthy again:

"On Friday, the House will begin with debate on a motion to concur on the TPA/TAA bill. The House will then debate the motion to concur on the customs bill with a House amendment. As I mentioned at Conference, the House will then request to go to conference with the Senate on the customs bill.

"After debate on both motions on Friday, the vote order will be as follows:

"Question 1 – TAA. If this vote fails, no further action will be taken on the remaining trade motions. If this vote passes, the House will proceed to:

"Question 2 – TPA. If this vote fails, no further action will be taken on the remaining trade motion. If this vote passes, the House will proceed to:

"Motion to concur on the customs bill with a House amendment."

------------

So there seem to be a few "tricks" here: If TAA fails, no one has to take a vote on TPA. Also, a vote on the “Rule” plus a vote on TAA is still a vote for the anti-Medicare provision, since the anti-Medicare language has to be restored (by the Rule) into TAA if that bill is to be identical to the Senate version.

Will this pro-TPP trickery (thank you, Leader Pelosi) be enough to assuage enough frightened Democrats so they can comfortably vote their contributors’ wishes instead of their constituents’ incomes? If the floor speeches preceding the vote on the Rule are any indication, many Democrats recognize that the Rule vote and/or a vote on TAA could be deadly in the next election. That’s apparently why only eight Dems voted Yes on the Rule, and only near the end, when the Republicans couldn’t pass it alone.

In addition, there’s a long list of other things wrong with the “customs” bill (formally, an amendment to H.R. 644, if I read things right). House leaders have larded it up with lots of bad provisions, like forbidding the U.S. Trade Representative to address climate change in a trade agreement, and other provisions favored by Republicans (http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/06/11/business/republicans-attach-conditions-to-their-votes-on-trade-agreement.html?referrer=)

The customs bill is so changed that it will have to go into a conference committee, but it’s a giveaway bill anyway. It can take any form, and Obama can still veto it if and as he chooses. If TPA and TAA pass intact, he can sail into his “Bill Clinton future.” His next golden era is assured.

GW, I would love to believe that I was wrong, and that this was a glorious victory... but a couple of things bother me...

First of all, the TAA was voted down, but the TPA was voted in... many of the same people voted against the one but in favor of the other. I will admit not knowing enough about either bill to dispute the claim that TPA is functionless without TAA, but if this is so why the charade? Why vote in favor of the first and in opposition to the second... why not vote against both?

The second problem I have with this is equally disconcerting... Nancy Pelosi is a champion of the people??

This certainly appears to be professional wrestling at its best. Picture Pelosi in a leotard. Well, actually forget that idea...

If I turn out to be wrong, and TPP is legitimately voted down, and does not resurface under another name ( ie the Aldritch Bill vs The Federal Reserve Act) I will be perfectly thrilled.

Color me a cynic...

While the oligarchs are the main enemy, 95% of the public has been captured and displays a blind allegience to the Establishment.  Toxic injury from poisons in the vaccines, GMOs and fluoride produce anxiety, fear and depression and this stampedes the injured towards the perceived safe-haven of the Establishment.

This 95% of the public is on the side of the oligarchs who represent an obstacle to reform.  These sheeple have zero curiosity about 9-11 false flag explosive or financial evidence.  They are unlikely to detoxify and are on the side of the oligarchs that seek to keep this dollar cluster and domination going indefinately.

I dispute your 95% approval  for the oligarch's number . I think it is a much lower percentage. I think because of mind control, a high percentage of the population does generally support the government system while not liking the direction it is increasingly taking toward fascism. Because the public is generally ignorant and distracted it does not understand the treasonous methods used on them by high officials and giant corporations. Most people go along to get along because they have been taught they can't fight the system. That untrue belief that you as an individual can't make a difference is why most sit on the sidelines.  The State has captured their minds.

TPP, TISA, all of it will pass in one form or another, all that's required is obfuscation and waiting until the "people's" attention droops.

The only workable solution to the many problems facing us is to clean our government of corruption, and that isn't likely to happen.

It is a stretch to claim the vote as even a technical victory.

Actually they voted (219-211) Friday to AUTHORIZE fast-tracking ObamaTrade.

They also voted AGAINST benefits for workers (TAA) displaced by ObamaTrade.

The reason the bill was stopped is that the rules required both parts  to be passed together.

There is hardly Congressional disfavor for neo-Liberal trade (TTIP, TPP, or TISA).

Nor is there appreciable Congressional dislike of "trade deals" that manifestly disregard the Constitution, both in procedure and principle.
