Saudi Warplanes Destroy 2,500 Year Old Heritage Site In Yemen

Tyler Durden's picture

When ISIS militants took control of the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra last month, observers feared the world was set to lose a treasure of antiquity. The city, which houses ruins that date back thousands of years, is a UNESCO world heritage site. Historians say its destruction would represent a tragic defeat in the effort to preserve the cultural heritage not just of the Middle East, but of modern civilization itself.

(Palmyra)

On Friday, the proxy wars that, thanks in large part to US foreign policy, now plague the Middle East, took their toll on another UNESCO heritage site when Saudi warplanes decimated Old City, a 2,500 year-old collection of homes, towers, gardens, mosques, and public baths in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a.

NY Times has more:

A protected 2,500-year-old cultural heritage site in Yemen’s capital, Sana, was obliterated in an explosion early Friday, and witnesses and news reports said the cause was a missile or bomb from a Saudi warplane. The Saudi military denied responsibility.

The top antiquities-safeguarding official at the United Nations angrily condemned the destruction of ancient multistory homes, towers and gardens, which also killed an unspecified number of residents in Al Qasimi, a neighborhood in Sana’s Old City area.

“I am profoundly distressed by the loss of human lives as well as the damage inflicted on one of the world’s oldest jewels of Islamic urban landscape,” said the official, Irina Bokova, the director general of Unesco, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization...

“This heritage bears the soul of the Yemeni people; it is a symbol of a millennial history of knowledge, and it belongs to all humankind,” Ms. Bokova said.

These particular buildings are not all the important.  The lives are marginally important - no more so than any others, no less.  What is important is that 99.999999% of people have no idea who they really are.  Without that knowledge nothing else matters.

If they kill any of the country's few dozen Jews, it will be on the front page of the Times.

No mention that this is all old testament/torah, written and believed by Jews, of course.

Now, the Southern Evangelicals/Cult of Death that centers its theology on Israel and the Old Testament deserves all the scorn they get and more - but to forever stop short of the logical thing, and applying the "old testament" hate to those who wrote it and still reference it to "prove" their deed to Palestine, proves Voltaire was right...

I wonder how many "Christian" Zionists ever actually read a book of the Torah, then read, say, the Gospel of Mark.

Now, WHO benefits when "Britain" is blamed for the actions of the Debt-Money Monopolists?

These 6/11 air strikes by the Saudis are typical, the Saudi form of Islam believes in destruction of all false idols (which the evil head chopping Saudis decide).  So on 9/11 some years back, the Saudis teamed with Bush to demolish the World Trade Center buildings.  The WTC buildings' Moorish design was anathema to the Saudis.  As in Sana'a case, down those iconic Manhattan buildings went.  The Pentagon attack by cruise missile was an add-on by Rumsfeld, to bump off those Army accountants who had accidentally uncovered a multi-billion dollar theft ring being run from the Pentagon by New World Order-type crossroaders.

As you well know, the Saudis provided the patsies, Cheney and the Joint Chiefs provided the norad exercise/missing generals/stand down, and the Israelis and sayanim did most of the rest.

And Rumsfeld didn't order shit. Man was a half senile jackass.

And the money was stolen by dual citizen and rabi Dov Zakheim, formerly of a company involved in remote control plane technology... likely like the jet, not the cruise missile, that slammed into the pentagon.

ISIS, a U.S./Zionist creation, in March destroyed much of the beginnings of the world's civilizations around Nineveh which had stood for 2,700 years and filmed the bulldozing.  We will rue the day we allowed the Zionists to take over America’s foreign policy with their history of centuries and centuries of butchery. Thanks, Counterpunch. And God help us! We are up against a philosophy of hatred.

It is not anti-Semitic to say that American government, its cultural institutions including entertainment, media, and education are so controlled by Zionism that any criticism of Jews is grounds for firing from a job or worse. The true followers of Christ are under fire from this lockdown on American culture, from overturning traditional marriage to opening up cesspools of pornography, abortion, atheism and euthanasia. There’s a difference between the godless humanism of the Zionists and the American culture, but is there an actual difference in the people themselves? The Jews say 'yes.' In fact, these are the words of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson:

“We do not have a case of profound change in which a person is merely on a superior level. Rather we have a case of…a totally different species… the body of a Jewish person is of a totally different quality form the body of [members] of all nations of the world…The difference of the inner quality [of the body],…is so great that the bodies would be considered as completely different species. This is the reason why the Talmud states that there is an halachic difference in attitude about the bodies of non-Jews [as opposed to the bodies of Jews], ‘their bodies are in vain’….. An even greater difference exists in regard to the soul. Two contrary types of soul exist; a non-Jewish soul comes from three satanic spheres, while the Jewish soul stems from holiness.” (In I. Shahak & N. Mezvinsky 1999, 59-60)

While I appreciate your feelings about ISIS and all of that, rest assured, they have not even scratched any of the beginnings of the world's civilizations.  Nineveh (sic) not withstanding.  You need to realize that there were civilizations on earth well before we, in the current age, can even begin to define.  They say that things (like life, economics, and numerology) are cyclical.  If so, then the same for civilizations.

Cycles always end.  This time is no different.  It is okay.  It is not your fault.  All roads led to this anyway.  It had to be and it will be.

None of the commandments given to Moses would cause anyone any harm.  Not all supposed messages from God are equal.

Please note that the first commandment was from God to man.  It was not from man to man.  This matters when you consider the ramifications of one's personal actions.  You nor I are God.  We are not given to enforce God's law, only follow it.  We cause no harm this way.

the Old Testament/Torah sanctifies violence...

The "violence" described and recounted in the 2nd book of law was / is in response to previous violent actions perpetrated by governments that continued and took up residency in the land Jacob’s family left when they moved to Egypt 400 years earlier.  Granted, these initial acts of violence were not necessarily directed toward Moses and the ~2 million souls that passed through the Red Sea, but were directed toward one another and the innocent children in their midst, (making their ‘children pass through the fire’).  Furthermore, it's taught in no uncertain terms that the Israelites were not being given Canaan because of their own goodness, but because of the wickedness of those already there.

The theocracy of the time was unique in the annals of time as there was nothing like it before, nor is there anything like it today, nor will there be.  It was a tool used by God for a specific time and place.  It remains to this day as a historical verity and “schoolmaster” for the Christian church, and when studied, it reveals the curses that befall any governmental structure that attempts to misappropriate and assume the virtues of Diety, i.e. the dispensers of Faith, Hope and Love as their own.

The remaining books of the prophets show how this group of "chosen" people fell into the same practices of these evil kingdoms and worse by illicitly mixing the purity of proper Creator worship with politics, commerce, (syncretism) and ultimately self-supremacy creature / creation worship, resulting in their ultimate destruction in 70ad by Rome and casting to the winds any possibility to claim legal descendency to Jacob.

The US founders had it right it establishing a separation between state and church for it’s as inappropriate to allow the Church to administer the coinage of money, exercise the “power of the sword”, etc., as it was for the king to offer sacrifices on the altar, or currently to promote any elected officer as a benefactor in promising eternal bliss in exchange for your vote.

The whole thing is bull shit.  Only geometric forms.  Standard Muslim construction.  No representation of people, animals, or much of anything else.

Now if some small parts of the foundations are 2500 years old..., maybe, but how many structures have been there since?

You were the one to say standard "Muslim structure" not me, so I guess it's you who should do the math. Because the houses clearly are pre-Islam era. I am just saying that you are not the one to decide what is nice and what isn't based on tastes. For Yemen these houses may represent a symbol of national pride as much pride as your lousy white house or statue of liberty.

And good for you!

Regardless...FYI:

"With its long sea border between early civilizations, Yemen has long existed at a crossroads of cultures with a strategic location in terms of trade on the west of the Arabian Peninsula. Large settlements for their era existed in the mountains of northern Yemen as early as 5000 BC.[3] Little is known about ancient Yemen and how exactly it transitioned from nascent Bronze Age civilizations to more trade-focused caravan kingdoms. This may be due to social or official discouragement of research into pre-Islamic civilizations in Arabia…"

I don't know who "everyone in Arabia who disagreed with them" means, but According to Wikipedia, the "Diaspora" was done by Roman Emperor Hadrian in 135 CE (AD?), which is before Mohammed was born.  In the movie "The Kingdom of God", the Muslims allowed Jews and Christians to worship God in their own way, and it was the Knights Templar (the Roman Catholic Church) which went around killing people who didn't worship God their way.  I understand that Mohamed had no problem with Judaism or Christianity, but was focused on the replacing the tribal gods of the Arabs with Allah, who was the same god as God or Jehovah.  Also, Mohamed was just not interested in anyone else but Arabs.  He was focused on Arabs.

I call baloney on the oft-repeated propaganda "Muslims hate Christians and Jews".

Newgrange, Skara Brae, and Stonehendge, amongst others, suggest otherwise, preceding the Pyramids.

Pre-IndoEuropean migrations, sure, but still European.

Irish origin myths confirmed by modern scientific evidence

One of the oldest texts composed in Ireland is the Leabhar Gabhla, the Book of Invasions. It tells a semi-mythical history of the waves of people who settled in Ireland in earliest time. It says the first settlers to arrive in Ireland were a small dark race called the Fir Bolg, followed by a magical super-race called the Tuatha de Danaan (the people of the goddess Dana).

Most interestingly, the book says that the group which then came to Ireland and fully established itself as rulers of the island were the Milesians - the sons of Mil, the soldier from Spain. Modern DNA research has actually confirmed that the Irish are close genetic relatives of the people of northern Spain.

Few know that the Irish  {and Gaelic Scots} are, after Ashkenazi Jews, the most likely to get Tay Sachs disease.

This isn't because the Irish are Jews [Ireland was settled, and megaliths built well before there were Hebrews or Israelites] but because both share pre-Indo genetic heritage.  The  Khazar thing is partially true but wsy overstated - very little linguistic or archaeological evidence support major Khazar genetic influence, but a lot from pre-Indo Europe and the area around what is now the Republic of Georgia.  Second study below has been cited re Khazar influence, but while the researcher may be a fine geneticist, if you read the actual study, you'll see why the better reading is Caucasus origin  -mostly because there are no Khazars to test, and they were likely a mix of Turks, Mongols, and other peoples anyway.

Newgrange Stone Age Passage Tomb - Boyne Valley, Ireland

Newgrange is a Stone Age monument in the Boyne Valley, County Meath, Ireland. Newgrange was constructed over 5,000 years ago (about 3,200 B.C.) during the Neolithic period, which makes it older than Stonehenge and Great Pyramids of Giza. Newgrange is a large circular mound with a stone passageway and chambers inside. The mound is ringed by 97 large kerbstones.

Newgrange was built by a farming community that prospered on the rich lands of the Boyne Valley. Knowth and Dowth are similar mounds that together with Newgrange have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Last month, the Saudis bombed the Queen of Sheba's hilltop palace in Saba, Yemen. All parts of the foundation, the walls and everything else was 2,500 years old. It was a museum - nothing was built on top of it and there was no military presence there. It was done intentionally to punish Yemenis.

Right after that, they bombed the ancient Kingdom of Sheba's Great Dam of Ma'rib - the historic ruins of a 2,800 year old dam that was one of the largest known in the world it it's day. 15m high and 600m long, hand-build from brick. Eighth wonder of the world, by some accounts.

Zero military value for either site - these were aerial bombardments intended to destroy historic sites, just like ISIS loves to do. Saudi Arabia - ISIS? No difference.

I hope the Yemenis march from one end of Saudi Arabia to the other, kill the royalty and rich and burn every last oil well to the ground. In fact, the U.S. should pay the Yemenis to do that and give them all the tanks and rockets they need to clean house. But only after we dust off a few B-52s and carpet-bomb the shit out of the former Kingdom of Saudi Arabia around the clock for a couple of months, first.

Much of the mythology of Christianity is a rehash of an older and even more transparent fabrication – Judaism.

Jew Story – The Way of the Rabbi

The Israelites did not come from Egypt – a palpable myth – but emerged from the local population. There was no ancient 'Jewish Empire': the Jewish priests drew their inspiration from the empire of the Assyrians and "Judaism" was a reaction to the loss of the northern kingdom and an instructive period spent in Babylon. Yahweh, the god fashioned by the Jews, was a brutal tyrant, a being with a humanoid personality and a disturbing blood-lust. Say hello to G-D!

With God's blessing, misogynistic Jewish scribes encoded a raft of sex crimes which sanctified racial ambition. The sacred mission was to populate and subdue the earth. Judaism bequeathed its unfortunate mix of ignorance and intolerance to a wayward faction of heretics known to the world as Christians.

Jerusalem in 10th century BC had been barely a village of huts and cave dwellings. Kings David and Solomon are purely mythical characters – warrior/priest heroes, invented in the 6th century BC. Temples on the Mount? From "Threshing Floor" to "Noble Sanctuary". Persians and Greeks bearing gifts. Herod's Temple - Fact or Fantasy? Temple of Jupiter – Biggest and Best? Herod vs. Hadrian. Herod's trademark city of Caesarea actually owes more to Hadrian than it does to the Jewish king.

Herod the Great was a real king – but he did not massacre any babies. He was an astute and successful ruler. The Herodians and the Jewish elite became Romanised but religious fanatics led an armed resistance which ended in catastrophes under Titus, Trajan, and Hadrian.

In the aftermath, a collaborationist revision of Judaism, later attributed to a 13th apostle "Paul", allegedly of impeccable Pharisaic credentials, competed fiercely with a reconstituted rabbinic Judaism which fused piety with mercantile success.

To this day archeologists cannot find the 1st Temple, King David's fort/palace, temple and royal grounds.  More likely that he was a Tribal Chief, if he was real at all.  His six-sided star was borrowed from the Greeks, who used it earlier than he did.

God's "Rainbow" for Noah goes way, as a basic natural phenomenon, going back Billions of years ago.

The "Arc of the Covenant", if real and as 'powerful' and from YHWH/Elohim* at all, mysteriously vanished in about 500-600 BC, and has not been seen since.

   * A warrior desert god, worshiped by a subset of Hebrews

What is most remarkable about the ancient Hebrews/Jews, or the modern 'Jews', is how they are able to (a) maintain Continuity century after century, and (b) how they are able to re-Invent themselves with every adversity, setback or defeat.  Their belief and their 'Deity' (even if conjured/imagined, or an anthropomorphic story about crash-landed Aliens and their Captain-God who took a small tribe under their tutelage), teaches them to Stick Together, Work Together, Persevere against all enemies and odds, and to Rule over all others.

It's the total opposite of its spin-off -- Christianity -- which is a religious product that was largely a morphed and repackaged by the Romans in 325, at the Council of Nicaea.

Indeed, slaves built most massive buildings throughout history.

Nevertheless, many of the buildings themselves are masterpieces and, for that alone, worth keeping, because modern-day architects can learn a lot from them.

Also, they are often something locals are proud of, because they used and displayed the best building science "their people" had.  And they are history.

I think the Incas were fabulous builders, and  I that they didn't exactly have slaves.  Instead, every citizen had to give a couple months a year to government service, and a lot of that service was building and maintaining roads, bridges, buildings, agricultural terraces, etc.  Doesn't sound great, but I also understand that Incas never starved.  If there was ever a famine, the Incas would take food there, and there was always extra food somewhere in the country.

Yes.  I stand corrected.  Thank you.  I understand that Egyptians were hired to build the pyramids.  I guess I was thinking mostly about the Romans.  And a lot of other wonderful older buildings and other infrastructure was probably also built by hired labor, but I bet a lot of it was also built with slave labor.

Man, I would LOVE to have a Tardes, and the first thing I would do is go back and see how they really moved those rocks to build the pyramids.

And the next thing I would do is go see how the Incas moved those rocks to build their temples.

Only if the Catholics and Presbyterians are as allergic to pork as the Muslims are.

We're in the Last Days.  Why are you surprised that ancient artifacts and monuments are being destroyed by the scum, both East and West, that want to enslave the world?

The destruction/ looting of Sumer, Saba, Ninevah and the supposed theft of the Arc from Axum is slightly reminiscent of the Nazi search and looting of historical sites for esoteric artifacts and histories.  It's most certainly just symbolic but you never know these people rape kids and imitate sacrifice to stone owls, maybe it means something to them.
