Tell This To The Next Idiot Who Thinks You're "Unpatriotic"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Simon Black via Sovereign Man blog,

I’ll never forget the Oath of Office I took when I was commissioned as an Army Intelligence Officer all those years ago.

The most important part is where you swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic.”

That was the part that kept ringing in my head as George W. Bush went on TV in the run-up to the Iraq war talking about weapons of mass destruction.

We had been on the ground in Kuwait since late 2002, months before the invasion of Iraq kicked off. And every time Bush told that lie, I thought about my oath.

I’m disappointed to admit that, back then, I didn’t have the courage to go up against the big Army machine… to march into my Battalion Commander’s office and say, “Sir, we must defend the Constitution against the President of the United States.”

I knew I would get crushed.

When I left the military, I started noticing all the other ways in which the government turned the Constitution into a punchline. And that practice has only accelerated.

I came up with a different solution. Instead of fighting some faceless machine, I voted with my feet and left the country.

That, coupled with my drastically reduced tax bill thanks to being an overseas expat, has prompted a lot of use of the word ‘unpatriotic’ since I started writing this letter six years ago.

I find this appallingly ignorant.

The American Revolution itself was predicated on the inequity of taxation without representation.

Are your interests represented when they buy bombs and body scanners? Mine certainly aren’t.

Yet people who define patriotism by the frequency and rapidity of their flag-waving think that we all have some collective duty to ignorantly believe whatever we’re told by the government.

I disagree. So does the New Oxford American Dictionary, which defines ‘patriot’ as

“a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.”

There’s that phrase again– ‘defending against enemies.’

Who exactly are these ‘enemies’, by the way? Are they men in caves who hate us for our freedom? Arab teenagers with intense sexual angst and a collection of firearms?

No. The real enemies are not foreign… but domestic. It is the apparatus of government itself that has collapsed upon the founding document of the nation.

It’s not unpatriotic to lament how far a government’s practices have diverged from its Constitution.

It’s not unpatriotic to want to be free.

And it’s not unpatriotic to take steps to make that happen.

In fact, people who think it’s everyone’s patriotic duty to pay taxes are only feeding the beast that makes them less free.

And it’s entirely delusional to think that all of this can change by going to a voting booth.

There’s no politician that’s going to change this.

Nobody is going to stand on stage and say, “My plan is to eliminate entire departments of government, fire half of all government workers, terminate social security, and default on the debt.”

Elections are pointless charades. But rather than vote for new people, we can simply vote to restrict the resources they have available.

Yes, there are legal obligations to pay tax. And everyone should abide those obligations or risk pointless imprisonment.

But with proper planning, tax obligations can be minimized.

In my case, I left the country.

This provides up to $100,800 in tax-free income based on the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, and that’s before taking into account additional deductions, allowances, and exclusions.

Recently I used my tax savings to finance a new prosthetic leg for an amputee war veteran that had been abandoned by the US government, and to buy food for earthquake victims here in Nepal.

Had I not taken steps to reduce my tax bill, a big chunk of my income would have paid for more soldiers to get their legs blown off, and more bombs to be dropped by remote control on brown people.

Instead, now I get to decide how my income and savings can best have an impact on the interests that I believe in.

Let’s call it “representation without taxation”. And it’s completely legal as long as you follow the rules.

Sure, not everyone has the ability to leave the country. But there are options to fit any lifestyle and circumstance.

In addition to taxes, for example, it’s important to consider moving a portion of your savings abroad where it can’t be confiscated or frozen by capital controls.

Safeguarding your wealth is a huge part of this strategy, in fact.

The larger point is that taking steps to preserve your wealth and freedom is not unpatriotic.

And for anyone who truly cares to defend your country from its domestic enemies, starving the beast is one of the most powerful tools you have available.

I grew up on Marine Corps bases during the Vietnam war years.

One summer, when I was 12, and a couple of Marines were doing work around our quarters, I had been bringing them water and stuff. When the were about to go, one of them looked seriously at me and told me "Don't believe what they tell you, kid". He seemed really sincere, like that was the most meaningful thing he could say. I remember it clearly 45 years later.

The simple truth often has that effect.

One of the first posts I read on ZH that stuck with me to this day was somebody who said simply "They control the money supply, guys, they can keep this shit going a lot longer than you think they can."

It's one of those things you may not like, you might wish you had never head, but you can't dismiss it because you know, deep down, it's the absolute, plain-spoken truth.

The shit has been going a lit longer than I thought possible. Before 2012 election I swore it would crash under the next president.
They can hide the rot in the economy really well. With all the social programs, there is not the same visual as in the past. The government now feeds and houses those they fucked over with their idiotic policies.
I thought it would blow up, but now I suspect the US will go the way of Argentina. 100 years ago a great country and now a complete pile of shit.
The middle class is the gauge.

Good luck if that's the plan.

I think most historians agree there was pretty much an insurrection against George W Bush relative to this still ongoing conflagration.

No indeed you will not hear a single politician even bring the subject of the massive number of wars the USA has going on right now on account of "stop these endless wars."

This one is making Vietnam look like a minor event.

We'll see what happens as the money printers continue to "dig in" on their money printing madness.

They have attempted to generate inflation instead of a recovery and the monetary authorities have certainly succeeded in not creating a recovery.

Never been a better time to be on Wall Street ironically enough though.

Might as well elect the actual billionaire from there in my view.

"...When the US military moves in with special forces to take over the White House and the Federal Reserve System..."

Special Forces? As in our domestic USNORTHCOM Special Forces?

U.S. Special Operations Command, North (Provisional Command)

U.S. Special Operations Command, North is a provisional command, also known as SOCNORTH. This new command was approved in December 2012 as a subordinate unified command under USNORTHCOM. SOCNORTH is scheduled to achieve initial operational capability in 2014, and will enhance command and control of special operations forces throughout the NORTHCOM area of responsibility. SOCNORTH will also improve support to interagency counterterrorism operations.

There are a lot of SF units out there. Until recently, ALL of them were tasked with fighting foreign enemies. That all changed last year. Today, there's a 'special' group for designated enemies on domestic soil. They don't work for the same people or reasons or constitution that all the rest of the SF guys in the armed forces do.

'Interagency counterterrorism operations' means ones against YOU. SOCNORTH is modeled after the Israeli command with the same function. Jade Helm is a SOCNORTH game. It's not designed to get civilians use to stateside militiary operations, although the bonus intimidation is always nice. It's designed to indoctrinate the SF guys (in true Israeli fashion) to consider the citizens as either Israeli or Palestinian - in the U.S. it would be patriotic/government supporting citizens and 'hostile' citizens. It doesn't happen overnight, but it will happen. SF guys who don't go with the program are booted or transferred. They dress just like SWAT teams and exactly like their Israeli counterparts. Ever notice their helmets? The black uniforms? If you condition SF guys long enough to kick in the doors of citizens, flash-bang the kids in the head and shoot to kill, and they eventually just don't think about it anymore. They will be exactly like SWAT roid freaks when the time comes. If not, scolo them and instruct them who is hostile and must die.

SOCNORTH was assembled to be loyal to the oligarch politicians, not the constitution. They had to hand-select officers that wouldn't hesitate to shoot unarmed citizens if ordered to do so. They exist to kick the ass of anyone who supports taking over the White House or the (private corporation) Federal Reserve System. Why do you think the 160th SOAR practices intimidating cities with their Blackhawks and stages evacuation drills on the roofs of the district Federal Reserve Banks? Does that sound like something to protect either YOU or the CONSTITUTION? I'm afraid not. You're hostile until confirmed friendly, and so is your family.

Okalhoma City was an inside job by the ATF who were setting up a sting operation for White Supremists...there is a great new movie out about it. http://freemindfilms.com/films/anoblelie/ They basically lost control of the operation and instead of arresting them they let them blow up the Murrow Building. If you think a truck bomb did that to the Murrow building you have clearly never been to war.

I never believed Timothy Mcveigh did it. I base that on one single fact. He was armed when he got pulled over and went peacefully. I would suspect that someone that just blew up a federal building would have killed the cop and continued on his way.
That part of the story stinks of complete bullshit.
When such a crucial part of the story is bullshit, it is logical to conclude that everything else is as well.

Not all groups are bad. When I was in boy scouts, dues were collected. It was all in plain sight of everyone, and one of the kids (the "treasurer") would count it out in front of the whole group, record the number in a book we could all see, and dumped the cash into a lock box. When we wanted to go on a camping trip, we knew how much money we had as a group for renting canoes, paying for the campsite, etc. It was all transparent, and it all followed a direct and understandable logic.

Unfortunately, I later learned that this is the exact opposite of how the "real" world run by sociopathic criminals works.

The Most Inspiring Story You'll Hear Today! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G5C3KjsNx8

"I was introduced to you four years ago by my eldest son, who, at the time, had been listening to your podcasts for a few months. I am writing you this evening because I think that it is important that you receive feedback to help you understand the profoundly positive effect you are having on this world even if it is not always easy to see.

This year West Point’s class will graduate. When they entered West Point there were 1.261 members of this class, including my second son. I do not know exactly how many of those 1,261 will be graduating, but I do know that there will be one fewer graduates than there would have been had it not been for you – and my eldest son.

My eldest son was a student at College when he was introduced to you. Shortly after that my younger son, was accepted to West Point. I will always remember the day he received his acceptance package and my feeling of pride in him. It was just about one year earlier that I first found out that he was interested in the military academies. He made his decision to pursue a military path without the thought ever entering my mind. A teammate of his who had gone to the Naval Academy had sparked his interest. He said to me one night that he could get his education paid for and all he had to do was serve his country for five years. And, he said, “There is nothing wrong with that.” My how things can change.

The best thing about the military academies in the United States is that students do not have to officially commit to the military until the first day of classes of their third year. My older son knew this and after his brother had been at West Point for one year he began his all-out effort to convince him that he had to get out. He started sending things to read, and to his credit, my younger son read everything that was sent. It didn’t take long for my youngest son to become convinced that the war in Afghanistan was wrong in so many ways and he knew for sure that unless someone could convince him otherwise, he would never be able to lead troops into that battle.

My younger son then made it his mission to find someone, anyone, in the army’s leadership who could explain to him why we were fighting in Afghanistan. He tried for about six months. No one even tried to justify it. Everyone he spoke to who had actually been in Afghanistan admitted to him that the morale there amongst the troops was horrible, and that no one felt that we were actually making anything better. Some even admitted that we were causing more problems than we were solving.

So as soon as he finished his final exams at the end of his sophomore year he informed the academy that he was leaving. He then made the mistake of honestly filling out the exit forms regarding his top three reasons for leaving. He cited the war in Afghanistan, the military’s use (misuse) of drones, and the Army’s failure to properly address sexual assault in its ranks.

After taking a year off, my youngest son in back in school and doing quite well. Today, he gets it – as do I. And this is directly a result of his brother finding you. Had you not chosen to do what you are doing I am quite certain that my son would be preparing to graduate from West Point and to embark on a career that would damage himself and others irreparably.

How do I adequately say thank you for that? All I can do right now is say that I am eternally grateful to you for the role you played in this. So for now I will simply say thank you, thank you, thank you."

The most important part is where you swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic.”

I give you credit for acknowledging your thoughts about this.

When the military, congress and potus ignore the oath of office, the oath becomes meaningless.

One way to fix this problem is to demand that no one swears to that oath anymore. There will be such an outrage from citizens (I hope) maybe it will focus on this problem of who is breaking their oath and who isn't.

Patriotism should be based on a pride of what your country stands for and the principles that it is based on.  Once upon a time U.S. constitution and its bill of rights had some credibility. That was when congress and the president held each other in check and the odd politician actually had principles and a back bone.  The supreme court also seemed to take seriously its responsibility to uphold the constitution.  Now however I don't think that any of the people in these institutions even take a passing glance at principles or morals.  Its all about getting the cash in from the donors.   And it does not much matter where that cash comes from.

So what is your patriotism based on.  Bringing "freedom" to the middle east?  Don't make me laugh.

Being the land of the free and the home of the brave?  As you consent to even more intrusive spying on you and your neighbors to stop that one terrorist attack that may or may not happen.  While of course the police are taking your possessions and possibly your life without any cause.  You are pathetic.

How about a financial system that is so stacked in favour of "the man" that the wealth gap grows exponentially every year?  You are too stupid to see how stupid that they think you are.

The most open and transparent government ever.  hahahahahahahaha

So being proud of your military that drones "folks" half a world away and chanting USA USA USA at a sporting event are pretty hollow expressions of patriotism.

I do remember taking it, but never thought for a minute domestic enemies would ever be an issue. Oh how wrong I was. Washington DC is full of them, they swarm like fucking roaches on a garage dump. Zionists, religious fanatics, beneficiaries of the Military Industrial Spending complex, and others. They do not believe in the constitution as anything more than a scrap of paper, something that should be ingnored by the Zionist Warmongers nut jobs.

"...Washington DC is full of them, they swarm like fucking roaches on a garage dump..."

+1000 Jack. That's hilarious.

Now if we could only find some 50 ft. tall chickens to send to DC. I just found out (being thoroughly urban) that chickens absolutely love to chase around bugs and eat them. Makes perfect sense - I just never saw that in any chicken cartoons. They'll do it all day long if there's enough bugs and they're surprisingly good at catching them. I was helping a friend clear some old out-buildings from his land. If you grabbed a piece of plywood that had been on the ground for years and flipped it over, the bugs would scatter like politicians. This was followed by a chicken stampede - they would hang around and wait for us to start flipping over boards then attack for the tasty morsels.

There's got to be a few 50 ft. chickens running wild around Fukushima. I wonder if they would be on the banned exports list?

Telling others you don't support it... Well, that is just words. With your actions you do something else.

Have you figured it out where this is going? ... You are part of the reason why your government can do anything they like.

A culture requires values that most of its citizens hold in common. Few cultures today share any common values aside of themselves. When it's all about me, there is no culture. America was always about BEING American. Now it is about anything but being American. Divisiveness and multiculturalism have eroded away any sense of unity. What value is ANY constitution when it represents no country, culture or society. The warring tribes in Africa have more in common than most Americans or Europeans.

There are still distractions that people will rally around (like throwing the white black lady under the bus).  But ultimately what crushes culture are those that control culture.  Deceptive messaging is the evil.  To be patriotic is to show contempt and disdain for tyranny.  Tyranny exists when those in power control all the messaging.  I refuse to be patriotic to deception.

Hi Simon,

This post resonates with me!  I am a US Army Veteran Military Intelligence also but an enlisted soldier 3 years e-4 highest rank.  I worked as a Spanish language linguist.   So many people in my circle think I am unpatriotic because of my stance on our over reaching unrepresentative warmongering government.

I would like to take your advice and move out of the USA, but I need a little help.   I want to buy some farmland in Ecuador and I have come across a very fertile piece of property ready to produce.  My wife is from Ecuador and we have some family there producing on their property but We want to establish our own, so I have good connections and native fluency.

Simon I need just $75,000 to get started.  How about a little help to a fellow MI Veteran and help get me started!

I look forward to hearing from you!!!

Your continued idiotic comments on this web site are living proof of your worthlessness. On behalf of America in general, and Appalachia in particular, we are happy to be rid of you. Best of luck in your new life, Dutch boy.

Hi, I'm simon black. When I was writing this dribble, I rented a little house in middle America (for $2.29/hour, and let me tell you folks.....this was prime real estate in a major city at a price unheard of a few years ago). I walked among the locals and really felt their pain. I watched as they went to work and came home. I have a really good understanding of their plight. I am just like them. We are all middle America. Please, tell me I'm interesting and stop by my site.
