Just recently took my 17yo step-son to see his first Rush concert.
He didn't know many of their songs, but came away quite impressed.
"Jeez, those 3 guys sound like 30 on stage. That was the loudest thing I had ever heard." Told him he should listen to my albums and actually read the lyrics and it would likely give him a much deeper appreciation of them, as it did for me.
He knows I love their music. I figured he may not appreciate it at his current age (unlike me, when I was his age), but 20 years from now, he'll be able to say "Man, I went to their last large tour," and maybe by then he'll appreciate how musicianship, music AND lyrics combine to make great songs with a theme. That, and maybe he'll move away from the garbage he listens to now.
One can hope.
