Crusade against white people.  This pope makes Obama look like a right wing conservative.  The Catholic church should be torn apart and whatever Catholics are left that don't want homosexual female priests (with wives) should join the Eastern Orthodox church or form their own.  Catholics are the very definition of "sheeple" in that they are mindless followers.

to be catholic today would involve looking into the facts rather than the popular media hype. truly thinking for oneself.  the subject of female ordination was addressed by PJII, who said he had no authority to change tradition.

although joining the eastern orthodox would entail receiving valid sacraments, it would also entail losing the ideal and proper relationship with the successor of Peter in the only Church explicitly founded by Jesus (Mt 16:18)

"Global warming" is a symptom of global overpopulation.  Global overpopulation, a result from banning contraception.  So is the pope ready to concede to contraception as church doctrine going foreward as part of a solution to a problemhe claims as true??

Rubbish.  First there is no "global warming" other than the normal fluctuations in the planet's climate and the IPCC has even conceded no warming for the last 17 years.

Second the major emitters are now China and India.  Neither they nor most of the middle east and much of Africa are governed by the Church's view on contraception.

China actually had its own very draconian contraception solution, the "one child" policy.  That hasn't stopped it from rapidly becoming the largest CO2 emitter in the world and still increasing its CO2 emissions.

Air warming or ocean? Which do you think holds more heat? And why all the melting ice and permafrost?

As for your bogus claims: http://www.skepticalscience.com/australian-pachauri-global-warming.html

China 24%, US 16%, India 6%...hmm, something wrong with your theory there, Hoss. Your theory gets absolutely monkey-hammered, if you properly do your comparison in terms of per-capita contributions. Besides, what did you expect to happen when you moved all the manufacturing on earth to one fucking country?

Did you know that all La Nina and El Nino heating/cooling of ocean surface is based on (wait for it), the SUN.

Climatologist Kevin Trenberth has explained that “a global temperature increase occurs in the latter stages of an El Niño event, as heat comes out of the ocean and warms the atmosphere.” This week, NOAA released its monthly El Niño Southern Oscillation [ENSO] report, which concludes, “There is a greater than 90% chance that El Niño will continue through Northern Hemisphere fall 2015, and around an 85% chance it will last through the 2015-16 winter.”

Notice that there is no reference to CO2.

from Trenberth et al. (2002) Evolution of El Niño-Southern Oscillation and global atmospheric surface temperatures

"The negative feedback between SST and surface fluxes can be interpreted as showing the importance of the discharge of heat during El Niño events and of the recharge of heat during La Niña events. Relatively clear skies in the central and eastern tropical Pacific allow solar radiation to enter the ocean, apparently offsetting the below normal SSTs, but the heat is carried away by Ekman drift, ocean currents, and adjustments through ocean Rossby and Kelvin waves, and the heat is stored in the western Pacific tropics. This is not simply a rearrangement of the ocean heat, but also a restoration of heat in the ocean."

and again, from Trenberth and Fasullo (2009) Tracking Earth’s Energy: From El Niño to Global Warming

"Typically prior to an El Niño, in La Niña conditions, the cold sea waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific create high atmospheric pressure and clear skies, with plentiful sunshine heating the ocean waters. The ocean currents redistribute the ocean heat which builds up in the tropical western Pacific Warm Pool until an El Niño provides relief (Trenberth et al. 2002)."

Yep, but I also know that you can completely filter out the oscillations of the ENSO signal and there's still an obvious warming trend from air temps to the ocean depths.

But by all means, keep cutting and pasting from Watts without knowing what you're even saying.

I think you're analysis is correct:

"Global warming" is a symptom of global overpopulation."

Which is why many Catholics are slapping their foreheads and saying "what was the Pope thinking?"

I don't know what he was thinking, and my suspicion is that he is just one of the dumbest people to be Pope in a long time.

Very few people understand Vatican politics, but there are those who say that Vatican politics are as sordid and rough as secular politics.

My supposition is that the current pope is just a "compromise" non-entitiy who ended up "winning" the Papal throne because their was no majority for any REAL leadership.

How long can the Vatican continue to stumble and bumble along? Well, there is no expiration on the lease, so, quite a while.

Global over population is an urban legend. Read Michael Hudson's, Super Imperialism. Most starvation and the world's inability to feed its people is the result of trade policies that drive once thriving diversity in agriculture into monocultures. Much driven by IMF and World Bank conditionalities that do not allow small countries to implement protectionism for the agricultural industry and force farmers off the land to work for the Transnational agribusiness which they could not protect against because of their IMF loan conditions. Trans-nationals receive farm subsidies to under sell local markets and bankrupt local farmers. 50 years ago Haiti for example was bountiful and more than able to feed its population. Last I heard Haitians are now eating mud cakes.

So are you saying we should outlaw those diets that contribute to significant flatulence in humans?

The countries to which I'm sure you would consider as the highest contributors per capita, are also the lowest reproducing societies in the world. We are not even close to replacing ourselves, much less overpopulating the planet. If you really want to address long term CO2, then you had better be looking at who is going to be emitting in twenty years, rather than calculating ways of strip mining wealth from a dying population. We can't take it with us, and with amped up death taxes, the government will end up with most of it anyway.

It's a self-correcting problem though. The more China and India live with the same largess as the US, the sooner all that oil will be gone for good.

You assume I want carbon-taxes or carbon-trading or any of the other slopjockey solutions proposed, but that's not true. You're fucked no matter what the shysters try.

For all the fervor over climate change, the number one cause or motivator of the ruling elite is economic justice, and they would use any and all tools within the reach of their imagination to see to it that that theme remains for eternity. Economic justice is applicable to climate, to taxation, to freedom and to race. It is the gift that will just keep giving them the power the crave.

How many of these scientists would have a job without government funded AND DIRECTED research. Has there been one dollar spent with the directive of disproving climate change theories?

And just so you know, if oil and gas and coal ever give out and economic hardship befalls the entire planet, we are going to have lots of deforestation and wood and manure burning going on which is going to make a lot more co2.

A population of 7.5 billion WAY overpopulates the planet.

Amazon rain forests steadily being burned down.  African forests too.  Wetlands and forests in Europe and USA being steadily filled and paved over.  Water supply being exceeded in California.  Rivers throughout the world being turned into sewers.  Farmland throughout the world being washed away by erosion into the seas.  The Gulf of Mexico getting poisoned to keep a major oil spill from floating and looking bad on television.  Fukushima.  Fisheries being overburdened, so that fishermen no longer get the large fish, lobsters, etc. they used to be able to catch.  Refugee camps everywhere.  Countries going into war after war after war over oil.  THAT is what overpopulation looks like.

But it is not those populations that are under attack by "Climate Changers". The "rich white western" people are dying out. The "tanner" versions are taking over now. It is their habits you should be concerned about.

Mon, 06/22/2015 - 22:25 | 6224248 TheGreatRecovery

I think that's a good point.  I think the Carbon Tax people are trying to avoid the MOST essential fact in the equation: that global warming will continue, no matter what else is done, as long as population increases.

Of course, that population increase IS mostly happening among the "tanner people" because, by and large, they still reject controlling their own population while the "whiter" people do not.  And of course, that results in an ever-increasing ratio of "tanner" to "white".

But that ratio doesn't scare me.  What scares me is the increasing population.

So what's up here? Why all of a sudden is the pope sticking his nose into world affairs and playing god?

Is he trying to bring the Cherch back from the brink of oblivion where it's been ever since shortly after it collaborated (under the Polish pope) with Reagan's CIA to collapse the Soviet Union from within in the mid-late 1980s?

Does the pope sense that geopolitics are at a crucial turning point (with the unstopped rise of Russia-China) and he wants to affect the outcome in a way he thinks will be favorable to the West?

Is he just getting a woodie thinking about a chance to get an empowered UN where he can play god?

Not all, but the Christian ethos is based on the idea of a disposable planet that they won't need after they're raptured; unless you've got a different take on Revelations than the Baptist.

A sensible "religion" would see our planet as a birthright and our role as stewards to same. Here in CA, there's enough overlap between the hippies and Christians that many see it exactly that way (and so now, apparently, does that guy with the pointy hat), but if you look at the posts from people like Seek_Truth here, you'll see that they have rationalized away any and all concern for the environment, their fellow man, or sensible management of energy reserves because they really believe it doesn't matter. Direct spend is a feature of Sovereign money system.  In this way, the free gifts of the earth are returned to those who inherited the gifts upon birth.  Capitalism and even further Communism likes to grab the gifts and say "mine, mine, mine."

Simply spend into the base of the population - families, and require population reduction and Eugenics.  Each racial group can decide on how to improve their racial stock. The idiots and retards, the lame, should not be breeding.  A population can grow geometrically, and it can collapse geometrically.  This would be a volunteer system, accept the money and agree to Eugenics and population reduction.

Spending into new highly insulated homes would put millions back to work, and in the end the housing stock would use less energy per person.  Well built homes can last for centuries.

Drifting along and letting finance capitalism drive the trajectory of man is a sure path to disaster.  Finance capitalism is usurious, and its credit money type demands ever more from the future, raping the earth to pay the past.

Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission..

A priest comes out of a woods proclaiming that he has been lost therein for the last fortnight, and that he is starving. A citizen then offers him food, to which the priest replies, "No, no, I need boys. Where are your boys?"

The Pope didn't say the Earth is warming, but only that he gets hot when the boys choir comes in to sing.

tell your dad that the church, or europeans for that matter did not maintain the earth was flat.  That is a myth.

Galileo was not imprisoned but placed under house arrest.  In a palace really, and he did his finest work there.  he had been personally ridiculing the Pope by calling him a simpleton in his writings.

again, Galileo's proofs were incorrect and therefore not accepted.  Improvements in telescopes 150 years later provided the proper proofs.

This Pope is a Jesuit, which is to say he is a closet communist. Nothing more needs to be said.

Do some Roman Catholic cartoonists not believe in their own religion?  If so, then do they pretend to believe?  If so, then who do they think they are fooling?

No, not all catholics are robots and recognize leftist propaganda when they hear/see it. Do all Protestants follow every word that came out of jerry Falwells fat head? No I'd say not judging by all the baptists you see at a liquor store

ROMAN CATHOLICISM

1.  There are many Protestant churches.  If one doesn't believe what Jerry Falwell is saying, one would leave his church, and find a church whose preacher one does believe.

2.  Some Protestant churches (Presbyterian, for example.  Many Founding Fathers were Presbyterian.  Or Quaker.) believe that the Congregation should have a "group conscience" and try to figure out what God would want them to do.  No one person is considered to be God's messenger.

3.  If I understand correctly, Roman Catholics SAY they believe the Pope is God's messenger to humanity.  So if they decide the Pope is NOT God's messenger to humanity, they should leave, to avoid having to go around every day saying they believe something they don't believe.

When I see Roman Catholics mocking their own Pope, I suspect that the Roman Catholic church is not a church at all, but is actually the Roman Empire disguised as a church.  I suspect that its real form is that of a Political Party, where one goes to get enough votes from churchmembers to get elected to government office, where one gets control of taxpayers' money, and then can funnel that money back to those churchmembers/voters in the form of government contracts, government jobs, and government grants to Catholic NGOs.  And I feel that, if anyone wonders why the size of government in the USA has grown out-of-control, then he need look no further than the USA Supreme Court, 6 of 9 of whose members are now Roman Catholics.  Or one's State Legislature.  Where Roman Catholicism goes, government grows.

The bigotry and stupidty on display here are stunning.  Always happens when ZH carries anything about Catholicism.

It's strange.  Russia embarces orthodox religion after Communism fallls, and we embrace secular materialism.  We've swtiched places with the old Soviet Union.

You mistake socialist globalism for Catholicism or willingly make that "mistake" I do not believe that Catholicism is meant to be a vehicle to enslave humanity by it's devotu to worldliness and evil men. But what do I know perhaps you should read a bible

When I was a kid, there was a common response to a yes-or-no question to which the the answer was obviously "yes": Is the Pope Catholic?

These days, if someone issues such a retort, expect to see people tilt their heads a bit, stare quizzically into space for a few moments, and then shrug.

I wonder whether they shrug to suggest "who cares?".

ELECTRIC POWER USAGE

Just got the electric bill.

Last month we used 34 kwh per day.  The same month last year, we used 40 kwh per day.

That's a 15% decrease.

So we're on the same side as the Pope, trying to do what we can to help Save Our Planet.

What we did between last month and the same month last year was:

-replaced more light bulbs with LED light bulbs

-painted the (almost) flat roof with insulating paint

-put "solar-reflecting" film on the insides of the west-facing and east-facing windows

-added "shade-sail" tarps to shade the house more

-used the clothesline whenever we could.

We had already put as much insulation in the attic as we could figure out how to put.

The next 15% is probably going to be a lot harder.  However, here are some ideas/thoughts/hopes/intentions:

-use pressure cooker as much as possible?

-try to use the oven less?

-do more windows with "solar-reflecting" film?

-put more coats of insulating paint on the (almost) flat roof?

-consider (expensive!) new roof which is white, and has whatever latest whiz-bang roof/ventilation/energy-saving etc.?

-solar-powered attic fans?

-replace hot water heater with "on demand" hot water heater?

Anyone have any other thoughts?  (That don't involve TOO much profanity.   :-)

I don't think Big Propaganda is going to hire that many one-liner-trolls to attack science, religious leaders, and so forth.  I think Big Propaganda already has plenty of such trolls, and if Big Propaganda needs any more, Big Propaganda can get them in third-world nations, cheap.  So perhaps one-liner-trolls might want to learn a practical skill that people in their town will pay them for.  I like to mention plumbing, but there are many other salable skills.  Everyone is smart at something.  Everyone can succeed at something.
