After The Charleston Massacre - Who Is A 'Terrorist'?

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Justin Raimondo via Antiwar, ciom,

The recent attack on a predominantly African-American church by a murderous racist has provoked a passionate debate about who is – and is not – a “terrorist.” According to FBI director James Comey, the perpetrator of the Charleston massacre – in which nine people were killed – doesn’t qualify:

Terrorism is act of violence done or threatens to in order to try to influence a public body or citizenry, so it’s more of a political act and again based on what I know so more I don’t see it as a political act.”

Many are baffled by this, and point to what appears to be a curious double standard: after all, if a Muslim commits violence the media and the authorities are unanimous in their verdict that it was a “terrorist” act, and should be treated as such. And this is not just a matter of terminology: it is legally significant, since the post-9/11 era has given us a whole body of “terrorism”-related law that mandates severe punishment for crimes so designated. A piece in Newsweek avers:

“For many, [Dylann] Roof does not evoke the cultural norm of a terrorist. ‘We often have things labeled as hate crimes but there’s a big leap from the label ‘hate crime’ to ‘terrorism,” explains Ibrahim Hooper, the communications director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations. ‘We always wait when these incidents are first reported to hear if it was carried out by a Muslim to find out if it will be labeled terrorism.'”

Hooper’s complaint, echoed in some quarters of the media, is seemingly well-justified: after all, Roof is quite explicit about the essentially political-ideological motive behind his heinous act. Before opening fire he told his victims he “had to do it” because blacks are “taking over the county.” An online manifesto discovered after the Charleston attack explicates his racist views at some length. So why isn’t Dylann Roof a terrorist?

Glenn Greenwald has taken a stab at the who-is-a-terrorist issue in a recent article for The Intercept. He points to one Joseph Stack, whom he describes as “an anti-tax, anti-government fanatic” with “largely libertarian views”: Stack, you’ll recall, drove a plane into an IRS building, and – like most ideologicaly-motivated killers – wrote a manifesto justifying his actions. “The attack,” writes Greenwald, “had all of the elements of iconic terrorism, a model for how it’s most commonly understood: down to flying a plane into the side of a building. But Stack was white and non-Muslim. As a result, not only was the word ‘terrorism’ not applied to Stack, but it was explicitly declared inapplicable by media outlets and government officials alike.”

Greenwald goes on to list a number of incidents that seem to fit this “iconic” pattern, and yet were labeled mere “criminal” acts, as opposed to acts committed by Muslims, which seemingly qualify the perpetrator as a “terrorist.” This issue, he avers, is “about the identity of those committing the violence and the identity of the targets. It manifestly has nothing to do with some neutral, objective assessment of the acts being labeled.”

Yet Greenwald is too smart to fall into the same error as virtually all of the politically correct pundits waxing indignant over this question. He writes:

“The point here is not, as some very confused commentators suggested, to seek an expansion of the term “terrorism” beyond its current application. As someone who has spent the last decade more or less exclusively devoted to documenting the abuses and manipulations that term enables, the last thing I want is an expansion of its application.”

This is important, because several on the left have bemoaned the fact that the Department of Homeland Security was forced to back off of their “report” on “right-wing extremism” as a result of protests by conservatives in Congress and the media: according to the PC crowd’s logic, the Charleston incident shows they should be investigating “right-wing extremism” more seriously and strenuously. Which just goes to show that the left can be more of a threat to our civil liberties than even the right at its worst. Greenwald continues:

“But what I also don’t want is for non-Muslims to rest in their privileged nest, satisfied that the term and its accompanying abuses is only for that marginalized group. And what I especially don’t want is to have this glaring, damaging mythology persist that the term ‘terrorism’ is some sort of objectively discernible, consistently applied designation of a particularly hideous kind of violence. I’m eager to have the term recognized for what it is: a completely malleable, manipulated, vapid term of propaganda that has no consistent application whatsoever. Recognition of that reality is vital to draining the term of its potency.”

Seen from the government’s perspective, the issue has nothing fundamentally to do with Muslims. They are merely the latest group to get in Washington’s sights as a credible threat to its power and objectives. Back in the 1990s, you’ll recall, the terrorist threat had a different face: that of Timothy McVeigh, the mastermind behind the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building. Like Stack, he was what Greenwald would characterize as an “anti-government fanatic,” but unlike Stack he was apparently part of an organized “extremist” underworld, with affiliations with the “militia” and “patriot” movements. Unlike Stack, he acted in concert with others: and, also unlike Stack, he was linked by federal officials – notably President Bill Clinton – with a much larger movement which included “mainstream” conservative figures.

A May 1995 New York Times story reporting on a Clinton speech is headlined: “Terror in Oklahoma: The President; Clinton Assails the Teachings of the ‘Militias'”:

“‘If you appropriate our sacred symbols for paranoid purposes and compare yourselves to Colonial militias who fought for the democracy you now rail against, you are wrong,’ Mr. Clinton said here in a commencement address at Michigan State University. ‘How dare you suggest that we in the freest nation on earth live in tyranny? How dare you call yourselves patriots and heroes?’

“In an interview published in the Detroit Free Press today, Mr. Clinton also singled out for the first time a conservative radio talk show host, G. Gordon Liddy, as the sort of figure who had said things "’I cannot defend.’ Mr. Liddy advised his listeners last week to shoot first to the body and then to the groin if confronted with force by Federal agents …

"’I say this to the militias and all others who believe that the greatest threat to freedom comes from the Government instead of those who would take away our freedom: If you say violence is an acceptable way to make change, you are wrong,’ Mr. Clinton said. ‘If you say that Government is in a conspiracy to take your freedom away, you are just plain wrong.

"If you treat law-enforcement officers who put their lives on the line for your safety every day like some kind of enemy army to be suspected, derided and, if they should enforce the law against you, to be shot, you are wrong."

Conflating “anti-government” ideology with violence, Clinton went around the country campaigning against the “far right,” which was, as a result of the Oklahoma City bombing, the bogeyman-du-jour. The incident not only revived his failing presidency – crippled by GOP success in the congressional elections and the failure of Hillary’s health insurance initiative – it paved the way for passage of draconian “anti-terrorism” legislation and the beginnings of a lucrative government-private sector industry centered around “terrorism prevention.” For the first time in modern history, “terrorism” was utilized as a rationalization for limitations on the right of habeas corpus, and invoked to justify spying on political groups. The easing of the Posse Comitatus restrictions on the use of the military in domestic law enforcement, expanding the use of wiretaps, and extending the power of government officials to spy on the Internet, were encoded into law for the first time. All the elements of the post-9/11 “Patriot” Act were prefigured in this 1995 legislation – drafted in large part by then Senator Joe Biden.

Greenwald is wrong that US government officials lack an objectively discernible and consistently applied definition of a “terrorist.” Simply put, terrorism is a term used by them to describe any organized attempt to resist the state-sanctioned terror of the United States government, here at home or internationally.

Note that it isn’t enough to commit violence on account of one’s “anti-government” views: Joseph Stack was merely a lone wolf whose protest represented nothing and no one but himself. Although Greenwald identifies him as a “libertarian,” in fact his act aroused no sympathy or defense from the libertarian movement for the simple reason that libertarians oppose violence. While one could argue that – from a libertarian point of view – Stack was acting defensively against a coercive institution, i.e. the federal government, this stance has close to zero support among libertarians not least because Stack’s act did nothing to advance the cause of liberty, and, indeed, did much to discredit it.

McVeigh, on the other hand, did represent a movement, the growth of which President Clinton seized on to shore up his sinking political fortunes – and, not incidentally, to expand the power of the State. The “anti-right-wing extremist” campaign launched in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing gave Clinton the opportunity to link his political enemies in the Republican party to McVeigh’s heinous act – just as the 9/11 attacks gave George W. Bush and his neoconservative amen corner the chance to smear anyone who opposed his foreign policy of unmitigated aggression with the “terrorist” brush. “You’re either with us – or you’re with the terrorists!

From the anarchist bombings of the nineteenth century to the Oklahoma City bombing to the 9/11 attacks and now the Charleston massacre – governments utilize the moral panic and genuine physical fear generated by these incidents to encroach on our rights guaranteed by the Constitution. And the rationalization is always the same: the threat of organized subversion, either the prospect of domestic rebellion or foreign invasion.

During World War II, these dual threats were merged into one and used to justify not only the internment of Japanese Americans but also a series of “sedition” trials. Right-wing “isolationist” opponents of the war were rounded up and tried en masse, at President Franklin Roosevelt’s insistence: the government tried to prove that the defendants were engaged in a “conspiracy” to encourage sedition in the military not on account of any actions they engaged in collectively – most had never even met each other – but because they represented a conspiracy of shared ideas. Likewise, the government charged the leaders of the Socialist Workers Party, an organization of Trotskyists, with a similar “crime,” and succeeded in locking them up. Both trials were cheered on by “liberals” of the time – with the Communist Party loudest in its hosannas. (Even the American Civil Liberties Union fell down on the job, refusing to defend the rightists, although they did offer legal and moral assistance to the Trotskyists.)

Wherever government officials sense a credible threat to their power, they invariably take every opportunity to crush it by any means necessary: this is the first principle of how governments function, and every libertarian is all too familiar with it. The post-9/11 era has brought this lesson home, far beyond the relatively narrow confines of the libertarian movement. And this latest tragedy, you can be sure, will be used to accomplish the same anti-libertarian ends: the calls to investigate “hate groups,” and even to ban “hate speech,” are already being heard. Of course, who and what constitutes a “hate group,” and who is hating whom are subjective evaluations that no government official is qualified to make – not that this stops the largely left-wing proponents of such a dangerous idea, who cannot imagine that these pernicious proposals will ever be used to target them.

As that political hack Rahm Emmanuel put it:

“You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

Those who object to violence will be ruled by those who don't. Hence why modern libertarians have no real power.

Indeed.  This article also, inadvertantly, highlights the problem of accepting these official narratives of these heinous acts at face value.  We need to know WHAT happened before we can entertain WHY it happened and apply an appropriate label.  Raimondo appears to accept the official spin on OKC, for example, and marches on to what in my mind has to be a faulty diagnosis based on the facts I've seen.

You are wise. I am a man who abhors violence. Part of my soul I guess. This will put me at the mercy of men who don't.

Given the above, it does make me wonder why I put so much practice into being skilled with firearms. I like to think that in defense of my family I could use them. Maybe, maybe not. Hope I never have to find out.

Libertarians object to an initation of violence.  Most libertarians I know are fully prepared to return violence and have a general scorched earth policy for initatiors.  Just about everyone else claims they do not support any violence at all, yet support every law that is nothing but an initiation of violence.

Nobody supporting the pointing of guns has any real power. Popular Libertarianism has nothing until it realizes the logical conclusion of supporting the gun, which is that the gun will eventually be pointed in its direction. PER-I-FUCKING-OD

Will some people die, trying to make this point? You bet. The trick is pinning the blame on statism, and putting it on display for all to see.

A gun may eventually be pointed in your direction no matter how you feel about inanimate objects.  You are not magic, you can't make them all dissapear. They are not magic, anyone with half a brain can make one.  The only logical conclusion is that myself having a gun will help even the field if those with guns come at me.

Edit:  If you are supporting non-initation of violence i agree... your delivery is odd

Raimondo is clueless. Oklahoma City was cooked up by David Rockefeller and Henry Kissenger to demonize militia movements using military cutout Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. Nichols said FBI agent Larry Potts was assisting them. Potts was involved in both the Waco incident and Ruby Ridge. The Murrah Building was blown up using explosives - not the truck. It was a decoy just like the planes on 9/11. There are multiple witnesses to plastic explosives being planted in the building prior to it being blown and the day of the incident, initial news accounts reported multiple bombs going off. After the "official" story came out, those all disappeared. But if you watch news accounts from that day on YouTube, you can hear what was actually happening that day. Oklahoma City also was the excuse for anti-terrorism legislation and took the heat off Clinton after he ordered the murder of all those people at Waco.

They were much better countries when they were fascist. Germans didn't live in constant fear of their women being gang-raped by Muslim gangs and the White-Africans weren't being genocided and gang-raped by blacks. Libertarianism doesn't work with Muslims and blacks, they just run wild and gang-rape.

Funny but the black folks at Bible study weren't raping anyone.

Roof, 21, has told police that he “almost didn’t go through with it because everyone was so nice to him,”

But somehow Dylann confused their amiability with rape.

the gunman told the victims: "I have to do it... You rape our women and you're taking over our country, and you have to go."

Sound like anyone you know?

"The police have a job to do, let them do it."

Thats my view.

A "war on anything and everything" does not mean the Justice system has suddenly been suspended. The fact that folks want to "take a story and run with it" does not make it true. Indeed you'd be surprised how many of these "slam dunks" (cough, cough WMD's in Iraq cough, cough) have more than a few holes in them.

This is especially true when the crime is especially heinous.

Already a Judge is under attack in South Carolina.

These matters can really get out of hand if they become overtly political. What is a terrorist? Someone who is not an American citizen that's who.

We kill terrorists without resorting to due process.
Simple as that.

If you do that to an American or someone on American soil who happens to be a terrorist you still in my view need to bend over backwards in defense of your Justice system. I mean "shooting suspects"? We're suppose to arrest them first lest we wind up with an insurrection "in the name of fighting a war on terror" ironically enough.

There is no draft but certainly a massive WOAR ...so in my view what constitutes "law and order" needs to be clearly defined.

No I would not be screaming about the Stars and Bars right now I guess.

I love my country and I love the American flag more than anything...but patriotism can serve many masters...including oppression.

sorry friend, i generally respect your contributions, but i had to downie you on this.

people have lost trust that there is accountability in the system, in the broadest sense. this doubt in the legitimacy of those in authority with power is the natural outcome. to abhor violence is a moral position, to defend one's self, family and the innocent, is also a moral position. there is no contradiction in this. when our so-called leaders abandon morality, it must come from some where.

Rhodesia was the jewel of southern Africa. "Zimbabwe" is a nigger cesspit ruled by a monster whose first acts as dictator included settling scores against his fellow savages, went on to murder most whites unable to escape and destroy every institution they had built to make civilization possible. Now, genuinely mad, in the last stages of syphilis, Robert Mugabe is completely under the control of his golddigger wife whom everyone expects will become queen of the niggers and follow in her sugar daddy's footsteps---and things will get even worse.

Failed state? Somalia was a failed state and it fared much better than "Zimbabwe." The Somali shilling even stayed in circulation.

But go on, tell us more about the horrible Ian Smith. Never mind that you weren't even a wanksplat in his day. Or that even most niggers who actually remember Smith now admit their lives were never better than under the Rhodesian Front.

FRESNO - I've written a little about some of the great military figures Liberia has given the world, like General Butt Naked and his platinum-blonde drag queen psycho killers. But I've never told the hilarious, totally sick story of how Liberia got the way it is. And it's too interesting to hold back any longer.

Liberian history is supposedly "tragic," which is newspaper code for "funny as Hell." I can't help it, it is. It's not like I don't sympathize. I do. I mean, which slum did your grandparents come from? Probably some starved village where the coal mine's been closed since it ate a whole shift of locals. How'd you like it if everybody in your neighborhood took up a collection to send you back there, even if you didn't speak a word of the language? "We feel you don't fit in in Santa Barbara and you'll never be truly happy until you're back in Lower Slobovia:"

That's how Liberia started. It was white people's idea from the start. They were worried about free blacks, who made up about a tenth of the 2 million black people in the US. The two extremes of the slavery issue, abolitionists and crazy slaveowners, agreed something had to be done about all those free blacks.

The abolitionists loved black people so much they wanted them to go far, far away. So did the slaveowners, who announced with no evidence at all that free blacks were "promoters of mischief." (I don't know what "mischief" means--maybe they TP'd those Gone With the Wind plantation houses.)

A group of rich white do-gooders including Francis Scott Key, who wrote "the Star Spangled Banner," got together to raise the money to send free blacks back to Africa. For them Key had a special version of the anthem: "Oh say can you see/the home of the brave? If so, you're standing too close/Go about 4000 miles southeast, to West Africaaaa."

Congress came through with a big grant and in 1819, a ship with 88 freed blacks and three white chaperons landed in that other success-story for re-planting blacks, Sierra Leone. After gassing up at Freetown, they headed down the coast to the promised land, Liberia.

Within three weeks of arriving at their new home, all three whites and 22 blacks died of fever. That's barely time to start naming things "free-" this and "free-that.

Instead they named the place "Perseverance." A little truth in advertising. The rich whites sitting home safe in the US were determined to persevere in Liberia, even if it meant shipping every black they could catch straight into the most disease-ridden, lethal climate in the world. They worked a deal with the US Navy that any slave ships intercepted on the high seas would be detoured to Liberia an dump their cargo there, which meant that no matter how many colonists died, more were always on the way.

It was like a do-gooder version of Darwin, only sped up. Most of the newcomers died so fast they barely had time to thank their benefactors, but a few survived. And they were the ones who married and had kids, so eventually you got a population that had some degree of resistance to all the tropical diseases.

Once they realized they weren't all going to die in the next week, the settlers went to work on the most fundamental thing in any society: setting up cliques. There were three big ones in Liberia: the freed slaves who were "black"; the ones who were "mulatto"; and way back there in the bush, the natives. Naturally, none of these cliques liked each other.

The next step, naturally, was sucking up to the people who abused you. Is this starting to remind you of high school? That's because high school is a totally typical example of how people act when they have to start a society from scratch.

So instead of making peace with the natives, the Liberians spent the 1840s trying to get officially recognized by the whites. The funny bit is that the European states didn't have too much problem granting it, but the US--the country that started Liberia with a huge grant from Congress--refused to recognize Liberia until 1862. Guess why. Yup: because the South might object to having a black ambassador in Washington D.C.

It makes you wonder how they finally agreed to recognize Liberia. I mean, it's 1862, the Confederacy's at war with the US, and some bureaucrat's still sweating over the decision: "Well, Mr. Lincoln, our focus groups show there might be a negative reaction in some of the border districts:"

By this time Liberia was a full-grown country, doing what West African coastal enclaves are supposed to do: getting ripped off in "development" loans from the West, having ridiculous border disputes over some fever-ridden chunk of bush, and making the inland natives feel like dirt. British banks ripped the Liberians off so badly that one Liberian president--"the Liberian Lincoln," no less--had to swim for his life, and ended up as shark food before he made it to a British ship in the harbor of Monrovia, the new Liberian capital city.

Monrovia was named after James Monroe, who was one of the supporters of the Liberian colonization plan. His famous comment on Liberia was, "Love you guys, wish you could stay longer, here's your hat."

My favorite border dispute was between Liberia and that other outpost of freedom, Sierra Leone. In 1883, Sierra Leone claimed territory that Liberia held. The British backed up the Sierra Leoneans; Uncle Sam decided to stay out of it, and the Liberians had to back down. Next it was the French, in the Ivory Coast next door, grabbing another chunk of territory. Through it all Uncle Sam kept his distance from his black nephews in Liberia. It was like he was a little embarrassed by them.

One reason the US might've been embarrassed by the Liberians is that they kept trying to look white. And they succeeded. Take a look at the pictures of Liberian leaders from the 1800s and they look like Confederate generals with a tan--a lot of white blood in there. The Liberians were proud of that; the US wasn't.

These "Americo-Liberians" were never more than five percent of the population, but they ran the coast, had the money, understood more about the outside world--so they considered themselves the elite. They felt even whiter when they compared themselves with the natives, who were pure West African--some of the darkest people in the world. To remind everybody of the difference, the settlers called themselves "Americo-Liberians" and put on a lot of airs, with stiff collars and muttonchop sideburns--not to mention that other mark of higher civilization, land grabs.

Nobody was really sure how far inland Liberia's borders went. Basically, it was as much as they wanted or could grab. Nobody worried much about the natives; they were black and uncivilized. The Americo-Liberians were as racist as the slaveowners their ancestors had crossed the ocean to get away from. They sent their kids to school in the US to make sure they didn't get too African, and didn't even try to find out who lived in the jungle they'd claimed until the 1860s.

By the 1890s, you had the ultimate in, uh, black comedy: Liberian gunboats sailing upriver to bombard savage native tribes who were resisting civilization. In fact, they were resisting it too well: when the Americo-Liberian army marched inland to teach the Gola tribe a lesson, they got their cafe-au-lait asses kicked.

Liberian military history recovered its former glory in 1917, when Liberia formally joined the Allies against the Germans. There was panic among the General Staff in Berlin when the news arrived. But there was rejoicing in Monrovia, because it meant all German assets in Liberia could be seized and handed out to deserving Americo-Liberian pals.

But then unrest flared up inland, in darkest Liberia. The Americo-Liberian government sent a party to investigate. It turned out the tribes back there had heard a rumor that slavery was going to be abolished, and were outraged. The government explained it was just PR, a decree to impress the foreigners. But the natives were still restless, so the government had to send a big force to convince the Kru, the biggest tribe, to be peaceful by sacking their towns and killing off their warriors.

World War II was Liberia's golden age--by Liberian standards, that is. Once again the country took its stand for liberty, enlisting on the Allied side. But this time that actually meant something, because while WW I was basically a European war, WW II really was a worldwide deal. So the US set up some bases on the Liberian coast, with plenty of trickle-down for the locals. All kinds of fancy Western ideas started percolating through Monrovia. Women got the vote and in the early Sixties the Peace Corps did some of its earliest do-gooding in Liberia.

What did those kids actually do in the Corps, anyway? As far as I know, they just hugged a lot of dark-skinned people and meant well. It's kind of fun to think of these white American hippies' welcoming party in Monrovia, with all the snooty mulattoes in town sipping cocktails and warning them about those terribly, terribly primitive blacks one meets inland.

Liberia's biggest break ever came when some genius realized that since Liberia was officially a country--recognized since 1862, remember!--it had the right to sell ship registrations. Which it started doing, cut-rate, to every tramp steamer that didn't want to bother with lifeboats or safety inspections.

Which is why, every time an oil tanker goes aground while the captain was dead drunk, or comes apart mid-ocean, the papers call it "a Liberian-registered vessel." Your assurance of quality on the high seas.

That one's still a big money-spinner for Liberia. Actually Liberia was doing OK, by African standards, right up to the 70s. They'd had the same president from 1944 to 1971, an upstanding old guy with the great name of William Vacanarach Shadrach Tubman. With his suit and horn-rimmed glasses, he looks a little like Papa Doc Duvalier, the scary little dude who ruled Hatii at about the same time. But Tubman was a much more peaceful guy, who actually tried to include the inland tribes in the party. Investment picked up, schools got built, peace almost looked ready to break out. Almost.

Screenshot, click to enlarge (30 Kb)

When Tubman died another fairly decent guy, William Tolbert, was elected President. Tolbert tried to move with the times, dressing up in those African clothes--little white cap, white leisure suit--that make you look like a hospital orderly on break and carrying one of those sticks of office like Mobutu had in Congo.

But he didn't move fast enough. In 1980 he and a dozen of his officials were killed in a coup. This is the moment when Liberia starts its big, long fall.

Turned out the coup was run by Master Sergeant Samuel K. Doe. Doe was the first of the monsters. Since him, it's been one long string of monsters calling the shots in Liberia.

Doe started the tradition of killing anybody who objected to his decisions and stealing everything he could grab. But he was a weak-kneed moderate, compared to the next generation of Liberian wackos. You get this pattern a lot in the Third World: the first army officer to stage a coup is just an ordinary murderer, but somehow when he overthrows the old-style civilian politicians, all bets are off, and the contenders just get crazier and more violent all the time.

In 1989, an Americo-Liberian named Charles Taylor showed up in charge of a guerrilla army calling itself the National Patriotic Front of Liberia. The NPFL announced it was going to overthrow Sgt. Doe.

Taylor and Doe went way back. In fact, Taylor had been in charge of the money during Doe's regime--until Doe accused Taylor of stealing government funds. Of course that was like accusing him of breathing; it went without saying. But the charge meant that Doe and Taylor had had a fight. Taylor had to run off to the US. He was comfortable there, because like most Americo-Liberian kids he'd been sent to school there.

Then, to his own surprise, Taylor ended up in a Massachusetts prison on a Liberian extradition warrant. He was never extradited, though. Instead, he showed up in Liberia as leader of the NPFL. The question is, how did Taylor get out of jail in Massachusetts? Nobody's sure. His story is that he sawed through the bars, Count of Monte Christo style. Other people, cynical types, say he cut a deal with the CIA.

Everybody was sick of Doe, who was destroying Liberia in record time. He was shot, to everybody's satisfaction, in 1990. Taylor got the blame for that killing, along with a lot of others his guys had done back in the bush on their way to the capital. Charles had one of the all-time great answers for these nay-sayers: "Jesus Christ was accused of being a murderer in his time."

I'm still scratching my head on that one. From what I remember of Sunday School, they called Jesus a lot of stuff, but "murderer"? I must've missed that Sunday.

Still, Taylor should know; he's an ordained Baptist minister, and if there's on thing those rock-head Baptists can do, it's quote Scripture at you till you.

After Doe was shot, Liberia just sort of rotted. Taylor's NPFL ran most of the country, but the young guys back in the bush had gotten a taste for carrying guns, killing people and stealing their stuff. For the first time they were starting to feel included in the Liberian political process, and they weren't in a hurry to have things go back to the dull old ways, with some pompous old man in a suit running things from the coast.

And the rest, as they say, is recent history.

Roof is not called a terrorist because TPTB can get a lot more mileage out of calling him a racist. He won't be called what he really is, which is a fucking nutcase.

Meanwhile, they also spout off that the  white Southern heritage should be put in a history museum "where it belongs", but the slave victim heritage can live on front and center forevah.

+1 Bingo. Self-identifying, perpetual victims of crimes and injustice that were never committed upon them. No one ever talks about the very small population of whites who actually owned slaves in the South nor the very large population of poor white 'sharecroppers' aka slaves that took up arms to defend what little they had from the economic and conventional warfare of the north. You don't hear the white decendents of white sharecroppers demanding reparations for the crimes of Reconstruction.

Second off, didn't McVeigh get his detonators from the FBI as part of a sting that went wrong?

Third off, they don't care what event happens. They're looking for anything they can sieze and twist to further their aims.

Fourth off, I'm probably a terrorist under the laws written.

Fifth off, we do live under tyranny in this nation, albeit of a soft kind. It'll transition to hard tyranny later.

Sixth off, am I supposed to do nothing while they orchestrate the extinction of the white race?

Indeed.

At least one alt source (don't know how credible it is -- I don't know the source at all) is claiming to believe the shooting was staged.

http://truthstreammedia.com/2015/06/21/tell-tale-sign-of-a-crisis-actor

<<We knew this whole thing looked suspect when Al Sharpton already had a front row seat, announcing his appearance on Morning Joe at 6:30 am just hours after the shooting; when even Reuters was pushing the race baiting card, recalling everything from segregation to Sandy Hook to the 2nd Amendment to 9/11 and homegrown domestic extremists in their kitchen sink reporting of the “facts” first thing; when Karl Rove, a supposed conservative, is on Fox News right away calling for the repeal of the 2nd Amendment as the only way to stop the violence (a move which will ensure that only criminals who commit mass shootings like this one and the government will be the only ones with guns in this country)... There’s a reason certain events make it to the national establishment media stage. ...it’s another Wag the Dog.>>

Frankly, I believe NOTHING that the gov and MSM line up behind. Nine times out of ten, that's staged propaganda. In these days where gov is dying for a crisis -- any crisis -- big enough to distract from its destruction of the economy, and to scare enough sheep into their 'secure' pens -- I default to "STAGED" as a first response, because that is what usually turns out to be the case on these big sensational "crisis" media circuses.

I'm gonna wait for the second wave of stories unmasking the FBI as instigators setting up yet another mentally disabled patsy in order to justify more government power grabs, in the minds of the stupid, stupid, MSM-trusting sheeple.

This angers the fuck out of me. Why? Because every day we are brainwashed constantly from the tv, music, college, movies, journalism, books....... how racist white people are yet the complete contrary is the truth. You see more white people trying like hell to be black, hate themselves, fighting amonst other whites calling them racist if they breath too hard. And blacks murdering, slaughtering whites every day that never make any headlines whatsoever. And this one time a white does it, the president has to chime in, the entire media exploits it to no end, and movies will be made for the next 100 years. Blacks are the most racist and murderous fucks to ever live, yet the media covers every black on white murder up. 40% of white people that are killed are by blacks. Less than 1% of blacks that are killed are by whites, and they are mostly by cops, which means they probably deserved it. White people don't rape or kill black people but this one time it happens, the GOD DAMNED MOTHER FUCKING JEWS WHO RUN THE FUCKING MEDIA AND ARE GENOCIDING WHITES, will exploit this to no end. This whole thing is being manipulated way out of proportion.  I'm truly sorry for these people's losses, but at the same time 99.99% of our population has been behaving itself.  But .01% is still one hell of a lot of sociopaths and psycopaths running rampant.  Taking down a flag or disarming the public isn't going to stop people who are already "dead."  Sociopaths and psychopaths have no empathy nor conscience, and nothing to lose since they're already "dead."  You have no self-defense if you can't recognize "the sociopath next door." Decades ago, we were able to lock up kooks like this on suspicion of mental illness. Unfortunately, we locked up some people that shouldn't have been. So after pleas, marches, and court decisions, we dumped the laws that let us lock people up, closed down the state mental hospitals, and now we show our 'compassion' by letting them roam the streets and letting them try to be part of society.

The irony is that some of the strongest protests were by the black community (where the laws were used to confine 'uppity blacks'), and their success with the protests is why it is so hard today to 'put someone away', and is why nothing could be done to stop the Charleston shooter until he actually pulled the trigger.

Something smells very fishy about the Charleston thing.  How could a kid, with no military training, using a pistol, kill 9 people and injure none?  He had to reload.  Why didn't they take him down?  He doesn't look very intimidating.  What - 5'9" 150 lbs?  After Sandy Hook and the Boston Marathon, it's stupid not to wonder if we are being told the truth.  My condolences to any and all victims.

black people are being used again to further the goals of the chosen few. hate legislation is the gateway to criminalizing the criticism of a select class of criminals who are not black. these hate laws will never apply to white people or any asian. taking away the confederate flag from southern red necks is sure to inflame that group of good old boys who sincerely view the flag as a southern pride thing. the flag has nothing to do with racism, or slavery for that matter, but it will be used to exemplify the need for anti hate legislation possibly including hating your .gov.

watch what you write here. .gov is going after free speech on the net by expanding the legal definition of intent. hyperbole will be evidence of intent when it comes to the powers that be.

Preezy gonna speechify that Memorial Service (I'd be so focused on IDing whatever corpses they threw in the caskets I prolly wouldnt be able to listen).  White guilt, white guilt, more gimmiedat handouts and reverse discrimination.  The hypocrisy is simply hysterical.  Did more than a dozen niggers get murdered over the week-end in the Chi-Congo?  Where's their Presidential Memorial Service?!?  Riiight.  That doesn't fit the racist agenda of our President.  What a fucking J-O-K-E.

the ATF and FBI had paid informants at Elohim city, where Mc Veigh stayed while trying to develop a powerful bomb... but was UNABLE TO. they knew what he WANTED TO DO and where he intended to do it... Then he and Nicols went to the philipines where they met with Ramsay Yousef (WTC '93 and cousin of KSM-9/11 mastermind).. and the Feds knew about that too... Philipine intel gave the FBi a heads up on 9-11 basis the PC they took from Yousef's apt in the PI. lATERR BEFORE 9-11 THE fbi AHD A PAID INFORMANT WHO SUBSTANTIATED THE PI INTEL, INFORMOING THE FBI THAT THE TWO AL QUEDA LIVING WITH HIM WERE PLANNING TO HIJACK PLANES ANDFLYTHEMI   NTO BUILDINGS..T. HE FBI DID NOTHING 9so isnt that participating in the CRIME???)

Now my question is DONT YOU THINK THAT THE FBI AND OTHERS HAD PAID INFORMANTS IN THE GROUP THIS GUY ASSOCIATED HIMSELF WITH / BELONGED TO..?? AND AGAIN DID NOTHING TO STOP HIM...

So when is the government a PARTICIPANT IN A HATE CRIME / MASS MURDER (remember folksies THE FBI HAD FOREKNOWLEDGE OF THE TZARNOF BROTHERS INTENTIONS TOO - warned 3 times separately by saudi arabia nd russia - a total of 6 warnings...IGNORED..)

Of course the empty suit TRAITOR (FOR SUPPORTING THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD, AL QUEDA AND ISIS WITH MONEY, TRAINING AND WEAPONS, under the guise they were "moderate" fighters against Syria)... will now come out and DEMAND GUN CONFISCATION AND SEVERE CONTROLS... the democrats are the ones that put the confed flag up in SC just like Clintoon did in Ark.. and the repubs get blamed.

Col. West says obama is the first niggerized president (whatever that means)... but as a certainty HE IS FLAMING RACIAL DIVIDE IS ONE OF HIS FACETS OF FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGING AMERICA.. the pos should be IMPEACHED...HIS ULTIMATE GOAL IS A NATIONAL POLICE FORCE (CAN YOU SAY NAZI BROWN SHIRTS..???)

They've already made their Cheka, ahem-national police force: the DHS.

Now the agenda calls for removing/co-opting state and local forces who could conceivably act against it.

Thank you to whomever.  Yesterday I was reading ZH and was soooo sick of the damn poppy, flashy, in-out grey to transparant ads that seem to have multiplied by 10x in the last couple months.  I read on ZH that someone said to switch to mozilla with flashblock and adblock.   OMG!!.  I did this morning and I am a happy camper.

I know you need to make a few buck Tyler, but jezzz it has become insane navigating all the crap.

I watched the videos of the family members being interviewed about their mother, who had just been killed, and it is pretty much the same as Sandy Hook.  "How do you feel about your 6 year old child being killed in the shooting?" "It makes us sad, but we'll always be able to remember how cute Johnny was coloring with his crayons" all the while smiling.  In the Charleston interview, the son, looks about 19, says "We were briefed..."  Who talks like that?  "We have nothing but love in our hearts and have already forgiven the shooter.."  while smiling and laughing.

What a pussyfied country we are living in.  Toughen up.

This is not the first and probably will not be the last time demented human trash manages to slaughter a group of human sheep.

Get trained.  Be ready to defend yourself and your family anywhere and anytime.

Do not be a victim.

I think those victims have to take some responsibility for just sitting there asking the clown not to shoot instead of tackling him as he reloaded. How fucking stupid can you get.

PS: and you fuckers that think every fucking shooting is staged are fucking mental yourselves. Get a fucking grip.

<blockquote>“The attack,” writes Greenwald, “had all of the elements of iconic terrorism, a model for how it’s most commonly understood: down to flying a plane into the side of a building. But Stack was white and non-Muslim. As a result, not only was the word ‘terrorism’ not applied to Stack, but it was explicitly declared inapplicable by media outlets and government officials alike.”</blockquote>

Both Stack and Roof were Democrats.  That's why it's not "terrorism".  But "TEA partiers" protesting Obamacare certainly is.

Isn't it obvious who the true terrorists are in the United States?

"Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time, and I am
convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs
of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you
lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from
the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may
be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will
ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers
and thieves." - Andrew Jackson
