Minimum-Wage-Raising, Mysterious-Store-Shutting Wal-Mart Removes All Confederate Flag Merchandise From Stores
In the latest populist act of America's largest retailer, minimum-wage-raising, mysterious store-closing Wal-Mart has decided to remove all Confederate Flag merchandise from its stores. Apparently it will continue to stock handguns, rifles, crossbows, ammunition, and other land-of-the-free-to-choose merchandise.
Walmart, the country's largest retailer, will remove all Confederate flag merchandise from its stores, the company told CNN Monday.
The announcement is the latest indication that the flag, a symbol of the slave-holding South, has become toxic in the aftermath of a shooting last week at a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. Gov. Nikki Haley announced in a Monday afternoon news conference that she supports removing the Confederate flag from the state capitol grounds.
Walmart.com currently carries the Confederate flag as well as attire featuring the flag's design, such as T-shirts and belt buckles.
"We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer. We have taken steps to remove all items promoting the confederate flag from our assortment -- whether in our stores or on our web site," said Walmart spokesman Brian Nick. "We have a process in place to help lead us to the right decisions when it comes to the merchandise we sell. Still, at times, items make their way into our assortment improperly -- this is one of those instances."
Walmart's statement came in response to a CNN inquiry Monday. In addition to Walmart, CNN asked Amazon and eBay whether they would remove Confederate flag merchandise from their sites. Neither company responded to repeated requests for comment.
The long-running debate over displaying the Confederate flag on government buildings took a swift turn after last week's massacre in Charleston, which left nine African-Americans dead in their church. The shooter, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, has confessed to the murders and has said he wanted to instigate a "race war."
One widely circulated photo of the shooter holding a gun and a Confederate flag has stirred intense outrage. Critics of the flag quickly called on South Carolina to take down what is widely viewed as a symbol of racism.

I'd personallly prefer to see them pay a living wage and quit using tax loopholes, but this will score far more publicity points.
It goes much deeper. Why is Walmart allowed to kidnap people and force them to work against their will to begin with?
And it's such a shame too! Walmart workers are highly intelligent, physically attractive, well-educated, well-trained, and ambitious specimens who are wholely capable of starting their own businesses and supporting themselves. Due to those attributes, other employers are so desperate for them that they try to kidnap them too!
In my experience about half of them stand around while the other half pick up the slack just like anywhere else. The loafers do have some value as warm bodies when things get busy but I don't understand why some folks moan that the loafers don't make a living wage (sob!) at the expense of those who pitch in and do their work for them. I suppose that the world would end if employers had the right to pay people for the actual labor performed instead of "a living wage" regardless of how much some employees exploit the good work habits of other employees.
If you are arguing from personal experience, say a family member works for WalMart, then tell us so we have some perspective.

So just how much does a loafer need to live and why should I care?

There's one other supermarket in my town which sells exactly the same stuff and it's all more expensive than Walmart by 10% to 40% except Campbell's Soup and organic eggs for some reason. My food budget is $5 per day and if it wasn't for Walmart I'd go hungry.

Well Tyler there was an incident a few years ago in California where the Mexican students were wearing apparel with Mexican flags, 5, FIVE White kids at the school wore American flag shirts, the assistant principal, a Mexican, told them to take them off or go home. Well the parents sued. The 9th District Federal Court based in San Francisco agree with the High School. The US Supreme Court agreed. Just as on the 18th of this month the Supreme Court agreed with the state of Texas and BANNED the Confederate flag license plates that had been allowed for DECADES for the sons of Confederate Veterans or whatever their exact name is... So both the Confederate flag and the American flag are HATE-FILLED RACIST RAGS according to the US SUPREME COURT.

THAT's why the South rebelled and THAT's why Lincoln could not let the South secede, his rich mill owners needed the cotton but Lincoln knew he couldn't let that be widely known so he made it all about eliminating slavery and, just like today, the mainstream media of his day were only too happy to spread his carefully engineered lies.

Most of my ancestors who lived in that era fought for the Confederacy, but there were a few Union soldiers in there too. One guy joined up with the Union because he was sick of the Confederates literally trying to kidnap him and carry him off to war. After the war was over there was bad feelings in his family (most of whom fought for the Confederacy) so he moved to a different state.
For decades, his health slowly deteriorated, and he applied for his U.S. Army pension many times and was rejected each time, even as he became more and more bedridden and disabled, with many reputable witnesses to testify to this. Finally he died and I think his widow might have finally been able to collect a meager pension after jumping through hoops.
I bet he died with a lot of regrets over that choice.
