Blacks are 13% of US population 37.6% of prisoners and 71% of shooters in Chicago
Over the last couple of years, one of the dinner discussions our family has had relates to the observation that many, if not most, of the alleged perpetrators of violent crimes whose photographs appear in the mugshot section of our local newspaper's crime report are black. We live in a very white area of what used to be rural farms and ranches, but is now being quickly developed with multi-family housing and strip malls. A large metropolitan city is a short drive.
The kids and wife have asked me, "Why do you think it is, dad, that the murderers and robbers are usually black?" How is a dad supposed to answer this?
First, I wanted to look at more data than just the police report of our local paper. What I found is that blacks are 13% of the US population, 37.6% of the US prisoner population, and 71.5% of the shooters in Chicago.

Next, I started to watch and read some popular news reports and articles on the internet about black violence. I challenge each reader to make it through just the following five:
9 Year Black Boy Old Punches, Kicks, and Chokes Toddlers at Daycare
10 Year Old Black Girl Attacks Teacher
Two 15-year-old black boys charged with murder
Three black teenagers charged with murder in the death of 16 year-old.
First-round NBA pick shot and killed 22-year-old mother of four.
Finally, I asked a black sheriff if the notion that most murderers and robbers are black fits with his observations and experience. He responded, "You gotta judge people individually."
I told him that I agree, and that I am not judging anyone. I asked him, again, "Does the notion that a majority of murders and robberies in your jurisdiction are committed by blacks fit with your observations and experience?" He paused, stared at me, and said, "Yes."
I asked him if he had an opinion as to why this might be the case, since blacks make up a small minority of the population. I told him that my wife and kids have been asking me these questions.
He said, "You need to watch yourself. You need to be real careful." Then the black sheriff's deputy put his hand on his sidearm, stared at me for a moment, turned around, and walked away.
So, this is where I find myself as an American trying to ask one hard question about race and violence in America.
Why do you think it is that the murderers and robbers are usually black? Is it the case where you live? How is a dad supposed to answer this question? Are your wife and kids even able to ask it? Are we as a nation even able to ask it?

the 7% is misleading because 90% of the crimes committed by blacks are committed by black males and if they are half the black population, the real number is 3.5% of the population are committing 71% of the shootings and 37% of the crime.......
And it's mostly black males 15-45. That number is probably under 2%. Certainly a manageable number.
The author of this article clearly thinks they are hugely clever. The way they put the "logic" of the matter to that black policeman, well that was simply amazing.
Except........ even if it did happen, isn't that a bit racist? Walking up to a black officer and provoking with stupid, racist questions?
Put another way, what would have been the outcome if a black man had apporached a white officer and started saying stupid, agressive, racists things to the white man?

So. That is an interesting fact contained in the narrative.
But what makes this author "stupid", as such? Well, He seems to grasp percentage based statistics, which shows a basic familiarity with the shapes what speak. That's great. But the presmise of those numbers is that cause and effect follow race, and not other factors, such as poverty.
Where are the correlating numbers between poverty and crime? We see xx% percent of crime is done by people with given skin colours, but we do not see the same percenatge relationship between poor people (of all colours) and crime.
Why?
This is where the ZH community can prove itself as intellectually competent, or not. Here we have a genuine intelligence test.
Why did the author NOT correlate the perhaps obvious statistics of crime and poverty, and put those next to his figures for crime and race?

Here it is: black people do all kinds of bad crimes. There are large numbers of black people who are stupid, angry, violent and plain racist. Many black people are full of hate, show no mercy to those less fortunate than themselves, and they take whatever they can get from whosoever they can intimidate.

In the USA, or so it seems to the world, a black man who steps up to white police with aggressive and racist provocation is likely to wind up dead. If so, are black males really that much more disproportionally poor than black females?
For example, according to the FBI, in 2011 black males committed 5,416 of 6,329 reported murders by blacks, versus just 910 by black women.

a study that does not fit the socioeconomic and racism meme is the reason. i am not going to look but there seems to be a correlation between single parenthood and crime. the single parenthood atat for blacks is aroung 60%. the study in question found the one prevailing correlation for male crime is the relationhip he has/had with mum. a sruggling single parent with bad parenting skills is the cause as is a wealthy married mother with bad parenting skills. like all things perception becomes reality. blacks have a high violent crime rate. it is high enough to judge everyone of them as potential violent criminals.

For starters its misleading to use the US avg (13%) to assess a local (Chicago) ratio.
They are stuck in a cycle that the whole society is perpetuating.
People tend to live up to others expectations of them. Their upbringing and the news media raise the expectation that crime will be their career. Of course this in a huge oversimplification, but lifting them out of poverty is the answer. This is almost impossible given how hard the govt made it to be an entrepreneur, and how hard it is to get a job once you have a criminal record.
Deep inside they are better than that.
They need to see themselves better.
We need to see them as better.

We don't need to do squat. We need to be done with that. It's all on them.

Yes, you're close. genetically...there are no races. I know that may disappoint some people, but the notion of dividing the world's humans into a few broad "racial" categories is a recent historical phenomenon.
However...when one speak of race (which is a reference to skin colors) is really a distraction. The truth is that it's the sub-cultures which tend to be alligned with skin colors that creates the problems. Why do these more violent subcultures exist? These are complex problems...but i don't think anyone actually believes that someone is more violent simply because they have a higher melanin concentration than someone else. That isn't it. It's all the other reasons...which are not nearly as visible as skin color.
unfortunately, i'm not optimistic that we will resolve these "other" issues. POTUS hasn't helped a single things...and I don't think he cares. He seems to be satisfied with widening the divide. This is too bad.
