Blacks are 13% of US population 37.6% of prisoners and 71% of shooters in Chicago
Over the last couple of years, one of the dinner discussions our family has had relates to the observation that many, if not most, of the alleged perpetrators of violent crimes whose photographs appear in the mugshot section of our local newspaper's crime report are black. We live in a very white area of what used to be rural farms and ranches, but is now being quickly developed with multi-family housing and strip malls. A large metropolitan city is a short drive.
The kids and wife have asked me, "Why do you think it is, dad, that the murderers and robbers are usually black?" How is a dad supposed to answer this?
First, I wanted to look at more data than just the police report of our local paper. What I found is that blacks are 13% of the US population, 37.6% of the US prisoner population, and 71.5% of the shooters in Chicago.

Next, I started to watch and read some popular news reports and articles on the internet about black violence. I challenge each reader to make it through just the following five:

Three black teenagers charged with murder in the death of 16 year-old.

Finally, I asked a black sheriff if the notion that most murderers and robbers are black fits with his observations and experience. He responded, "You gotta judge people individually."
I told him that I agree, and that I am not judging anyone. I asked him, again, "Does the notion that a majority of murders and robberies in your jurisdiction are committed by blacks fit with your observations and experience?" He paused, stared at me, and said, "Yes."
I asked him if he had an opinion as to why this might be the case, since blacks make up a small minority of the population. I told him that my wife and kids have been asking me these questions.
He said, "You need to watch yourself. You need to be real careful." Then the black sheriff's deputy put his hand on his sidearm, stared at me for a moment, turned around, and walked away.
So, this is where I find myself as an American trying to ask one hard question about race and violence in America.
Why do you think it is that the murderers and robbers are usually black? Is it the case where you live? How is a dad supposed to answer this question? Are your wife and kids even able to ask it? Are we as a nation even able to ask it?

You can judge the Somalians, Ethiopians and Hmong after they return from WW III, get a reasonable GI bill to got to college or get decent middle-class jobs and can afford a house to raise their families. Cut them a little slack during the 'internment camp' phase - every immigrant group has one no matter how hard it's whitewashed over in later generations.
On a completely unrelated note, why one earth would someone from Somalia or Ethiopia - the hottest places on earth - go to polar Minnesota? It sounds like someone pulled a mean trick on them. The Somalis and Ethiopians are not destroying Minneapolis. The neighborhoods they are living in today were destroyed long before the East Africans showed up. Cedar-Riverside was full of junkies, and Phillips was full of Native Americans, and neither was a place you would live if you had a choice--in 1985. If anything, the East Africans have improved the area around 26th St. and Bloomington Ave. from what it was 30 years ago. It's much more difficult to find heroin or prostitutes where the East Africans have settled in. Yes, I suppose it is difficult now for anyone not from East Africa to get a job driving a cab, as a parking lot attendant, or as a janitor. I've been lucky enough my aspirations are a little higher than that.
I also live in the Cities, and have for years. Blacks have destroyed north Minneapolis and are moving on towards Brooklyn Park and west towards St.Louis Park. The Somalis and Africans from the first generation seem to be appreciative of being here. Their children turn out to be sh!theads however.

I tell mine that on average, blacks have a significantly lower IQ than white people, and this generally causes thm to have a more juvenille, primal mentallity. Same reason there prett much isnt a functioning country in all of sub saharan africa. A group of people with that low of an IQ cannot have a functioning society. This mentality makes them more predisposed to crime, since the lowered intelligence also makes them less aware of the consequences of thier actions.
Also, 50 years of handouts from the government and being told by white people that its not thier fault doesn't help. They are told, from day one, that white people are evil and that they are entitled to something, which is another reason they see nothing wrong with stealing.

I never said there was a drop in the illegitimate birth rate. I said there was a drop in the teenage birth rate. Having children by yourself is a bad idea, but women in their 20s understand what they're doing far more than teenagers, and the kids are likely to be better-raised. You're quite right that blacks commit violent crimes at a higher rate than whites. I never said otherwise. I said the overall violent crime rate has dropped dramatically, and it has. That includes a massive drop in violent crime committed by blacks. The SAT isn't the best measurement, due to the population selection. As more students take the SAT, the next marginal student is much less likely to be college material. There are more up-to-date statistics here: https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=171. Since 1986, there has been little improvement in reading for anyone, more improvement for everyone in math.
The assessments for 9 year-olds and 13 year-olds is a better measure, since it covers all students. It's the NAEP: http://www.nationsreportcard.gov/ltt_2012.
