Monk Or Martyr: One American's Strategy For Survival In The New Normal

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Warren Pollack,

Revolution In America: Speaking Truth To Power

A  Quaker essay  from 1955 entitled “Speaking Truth to Power,”  has over time evolved into  a single soundbite used by academicians and intellectuals alike to describe the bravery, and personal absorption of risk, required to be candid with people firmly in power.

When you speak to power in the United States you are most likely going to be ignored as opposed to being imprisoned, persecuted, divested, or killed.   Were our government  “either functional or operable” it  would consider people speaking to power to be an advantage and then adjust.

The last time a “government” adjusted to speaking to power, however, was best illustrated by the brave but foolish man who stood up to a tank  (tank-man) in Tiananmen Square China thereby providing the symbolism of personal sacrifice and thus the political insecurity needed to justify a massive change in public policy.   In the United States today any person, or group of people,  standing up to a tank(s) or a militarized police vehicle(s) will be run over and flattened, the photographic evidence of being squashed and splattered on the pavement would then provide endless entertainment for millions of temporarily outraged people either in minute long videos or even five second repeating “Vines”  until something more entertaining came along.

Our “dumb government,” has been buying tanks, bullets, and airport security apparatus more as a profit center for looting as opposed as a counter to any threat to power existential or otherwise.   The reality being that when you speak to power today nobody listens or cares beyond those that will immediately profit from the growing security, military-industrial, banking, education, “healthcare.. etc”, and corruption apparatus.

The calls for a needed revolution go unheeded both not only by the elite looters at the top of our society and but also from the very disenfranchised at the  bottom of it.    It does not matter  if nuclear reactors explode,  twin towers fall, flood waters engulf, oil spills slick, food becomes rancid, healthcare becomes inaccessible and unaffordable, regressive taxation absorbs all economic activity, the middle class evaporates, corporate and banking schemes steal, constitutional rights are voided,  top-secret initiatives determine the winners and losers,  laws are written to special interests or broken by elites without recourse, or even an occasional baker's dozen of black men get shot.     The point being, that  in the United States every disaster perpetrated on the citizenry can be used by the empowered to legally siphon money “from the people”  to the looters.

Rhetoric spins around a hamster driven news cycle, but no event no matter how dramatic will result in any kind of change let alone a revolution.      The propaganda engine, intent on generating profitable controversy in lieu  of producing risky and costly  news, generates waves of  noise from talking heads  framed both left and right; with the competing waves canceling themselves out as they collide.  “We the people” are encouraged to give our opinions in neverending and fruitless discussions on the dead end of chat boards and social networking.    United States citizens are dupes and participants in pre-engineered divide and conquer rhetoric of a marketing born propaganda engine employing more than sixty years of experience.

Each individual participates with their voice in a cacophony of polarized and framed issues thereby causing a mass cancellation effect.  This noise in turn allows for the looting of life, liberty, and property to occur  to such an extent that a few have become rich beyond the dream of avarice as the majority become harvested useless eaters.

In this scientific age, there are many ideas that could improve the situation almost immediately but no impetus,  reasoning, or leadership exists to see it happen.  So no,  an army of American “tank-men” symbolically standing up to oppression at the street level will not cause a revolutionary moment to occur.   Change away from consumerism towards communism or laissez-faire capitalism, no, we cannot have any of that we are certainly not going to use the scientific method as opposed to magic for problem-solving.    Of course, the restoration of rule law does not require any ideological adherence, social science, or planification whatsoever.

Perhaps as the chemical side effect of our hormone altering plasticine world,  we have become genetically unglued.    Evidence to this possibility exists in the public's attention to emasculated male celebrities displaying their sexual cross-gender identity crisis.  The media circus certainly revels in the sideshow of  menopausal-apeish-beast-women-creatures, the only manly figures remaining in the kabuki theater of US finance and politics.     Revolution cannot be born by the spectacle of entertainment or by those that have been neutered or genetically cowed.

There are many reasons why the US will not have a revolution. To this end,  I have updated some the original quaker essay talking points with a set of newly minted points of observation applicable for late 2015 and our fate onward from that point;

--A wholly coercive system consisting of a police state
--Bureaucracy runs amok
--Dependency has replaced morality, personal responsibility,  and civics
--Propaganda has replaced fact and truth finding
--Everyone has a voice, as long as those voices speak within the narrow context of divide and conquer issue framing
--Opinions echo and cancel each other out
--Speaking in a single reformative voice becomes an impossibility
--Correctness has replaced personality
--Specialization and complexity caused loss of overview
--”Carpetbagging,” for friends and family represent the greatest personal imperative achievable
--Stoicism and polarization have become substitutes questioning and reason
--A great narrowing of opportunity, options, and outlook due to corporatization
--A profits efficient and integrated system of unparalleled complexity with no redundancy resiliency or planning
--Depersonalization paradoxically coexists with a worship with a celebration of self
--Schooling and indoctrination stress conformity and compliance rather than thinking
--Perception trumps fact, history, map, or insight
--Labor value and the value of human life continues to diminish
--Authority and compliance, rather than individual conscience represents the dominant ethos
--Participation in  illusory economic dreams and fantasy become aspirational points of lockdown
--The natural environment continues to become permanently degraded thus diminishing the world's carrying capacity
--Corruption has become legalized and institutionalized
--All individuals franchised individuals are participants and beneficiaries of corruption
--Consumerism has become one of two major operable ideologies, Islam being the second major ideology
--Totalitarianism has become inverted

Totalitarianism has become distributed across governments, groups, elites, bureaucracies from local to federal, from federal to international, and from international to a few corporations that exist everywhere.    Everyone that earns a wage, buys a product, pays taxes, ponies up money for fines, votes, or conducts economic activity have been captured and are beneficiaries of systemic corruption.     Unconstrained local tyranny has been making brutal contact with this nation's most vulnerable, this trend will graduate to the middle class and expand from local to national level next.

In other words, the year 2015 differs significantly from 1955, because today you cannot speak to power because there is nobody to speak to, not a single leader can be found and constructive ideas, although plentiful and obvious, will not be allowed take hold.

A leaderless, narrowing, putrefied, lying lawless system of festering corruption;  how well do you think our society will be able to absorb our next crisis point or rise to meet humanity's greatest challenge, survival itself?    Speaking to power within a power vacuum anyone?; a vacuum being a place where sound cannot travel.

Thus, my personal strategy for change has morphed from speaking to power in favor of becoming a monk rather than a martyr.     If I could stand in front of a tank and have it force positive change I would do so but clearly that opportunity won’t happen or present itself.    Beyond 2015, I fear it will continue to be everyman for himself and thus divided we'll fall having rejected the spirit of one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

This falls into the “What if” or “I forgot to take my meds today” category ;-)

Everybody knows by now that all printers and copiers leave an invisible mark on the printed page, so it can be traced back to the printer, point of sale, credit card, address and name of the purchaser, if needed. But…

“What if” all new commercial paper shredders scan and store images of all shredded pages? Some bucket-size shredders for home use have the same capabilities. A readable low-resolution image of a full-text page is just a couple of Kb in size. So, a tiny 2Gb memory chip on your shredder’s PCB (printed circuit board) can store up to a million pages of your shredded documents.

If your home shredder is more than 4-5 years old, you are fine; but, if it is new or a couple of years old, keep this Conspiracy Theory in mind.

So, if you see on TV a computer being seized along with a shredder, you would know that they won’t be wasting their time trying to reassemble thousands of strips.

Now, where are my meds? ;-)

Looney

P.S. Here’s an interesting Conspiracy Fact from Wikipedia:

Historically, the General Services Administration (GSA) set paper shredder guidance in the Interim Federal Specification FF-S-001169 dated July 1971, superseded by standard A-A-2599 for classified material, which was canceled in February 2000. GSA has not published a new standard since.

The ongoing revolution is that of individual producers opting out, not a collective movement acting for the "greater good". A stochastic army of John Galts, acting out of their own individual conscience, and leveraging the Internet to circumvent and void past-century taxation and regulations.

Tiananmen Square Massacre is a Myth, All We're 'Remembering' are British Lies (LINK)

June 4, 2014 will for many mark the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. What it should actually mark is the anniversary of one of the more spectacular UK black information operations -- almost on a par with the mythical Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

The original story of Chinese troops on the night of 3 and 4 June, 1989 machine-gunning hundreds of innocent student protesters in Beijing's iconic Tiananmen Square has since been thoroughly discredited by the many witnesses there at the time -- among them a Spanish TVE television crew, a Reuters correspondent and protesters themselves, who say that nothing happened other than a military unit entering and asking several hundred of those remaining to leave the Square late that night.

Yet none of this has stopped the massacre from being revived constantly, and believed. All that has happened is that the location has been changed – from the Square itself to the streets leading to the Square.

What percentage of the US population wants to be free from government? A fraction of 1%?

The public is far more interested in controlling others than in being free. Most will gladly let themselves be controlled as long as their desire to control is satisfied.

Belief in control equates to their belief that it is necessary for their survival which is quite far from the truth.

If you want it faster, kill all cellphone towers and disconnect all phones, phamblets and tablets. Revolution in one half hour. Plus hysterical screaming suicidal zombies. No shit. Try it.

It is funny. Nobody really listens to Rock Music.

Ever hear of System of a Down? Here is a song named, "Hypnotize"

They are Bosnian and had no investment in this.

Read the lyrics, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, and really contemplate what the lyrics mean folks. OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES. You have been lied to for far, far too long.

And you buy into every word they say...Your junks are demonstrative of that fact.

Why don't you ask the kids at Tienanmen Square?
Was fashion the reason why they were there?

They disguise it, Hypnotize it.
Television made you buy it.

Part of the agenda of TPTB is to diversify America so that there is no resistance to their power and the little pockets that do popup can be villified and made examples of.

The reason they like diversity from people of different nations is because those people don't know any better! They live under dictatorships, kings and other types of government and they are not for the most part guaranteed anything in this life. Once they move to America and the government starts taking away liberties and growing the police state, these people don't care because they are used to it and are simply happy to be able to buy stuff and enjoy things they couldn't in their countries. WAKE UP people FFS

My only hope is that some in the military will stick to their oaths and take out the tyrants before its too late to save America

I'm sad to say, EP, that I fully agree with you.

I was with a political action group many years back, who studied the immigration issue thoroughly, and found that immigrants from authoritarian or dictatorial government-run countries, tend to vote conservative, and we approached Sen. Ted Kennedy with this research when he was promoted new immmigrant legislation.

He either chose to ignore it or didn't believe it.

Why shred when you can burn, oh yeah I know why so we can recycle. Bleach the paper first if the ink isn't magnetic. If the ink is magnetic it can be removed using electrostatic processes. Then shred the paper if you can't burn it.

Best essay on ZeroHedge to date.

Since 2008 when I lost everything and was homeless for a while with a wife and kids, to my recovery (partial), to the discovery of this site, I have gone through all the stages of grief.

I suppose it was late last year that I realized what this essay had to say.  America is done.....in fact was still born the moment Federalism was ensconced in the Second Constitution ( what the ignorant call "The" Constitution.)

Being a monk is correct.  Flying under the radar is another way of saying it.  Tune in and drop out.  Whatever.......George Carlin had it right when he said that he no longer had anything invested in this country.....just a slightly amused observer.

At 50+ I have no more time to waste my thoughts or my heart on such matters.  Fuck it all, except for my friends and family.

No car, no TV, No cell phone, no credit card, no debt.

Cycle everywhere (still good for 50 miles any day of the week) - ride through winter in Canada.

Eat well - cook from scratch almost always.

Hiking, Archery and bow making for fun.

The less I have to do with what passes for society, the better I feel.

I try to feed the corporate monster as little as possible.

<<It is life in a super max, 23 hour lock down.>>

I get you, but a small correction if I may.

it is the ability of the Federal Reserve central bank to print 'money' for itself ex nihilo and pass it on to its lieutenants, military/police enforcers, favoured cronies, puppet governments, and associated central bank tentacles around the world.

Otherwise, the criminals at the top could never AFFORD this level of surveillance and enforcement.

I agree with this essay, but the primary reason to become a 'monk' is NOT b/c people aren't listening.

It is b/c no-one has the ability to print 'money' so all efforts based on real wealth, assets, intelligence, etc., are doomed. Criminals will be criminals, and their agenda does not include any of those.

However, becoming a 'monk' is the best and probably the ONLY way to fight a central bank. Enough people are and will be doing this -- as the Greatest Depression continues -- that the central banks soon will not be able to afford these levels of surveillance and enforcement any longer, as fewer and fewer are trusting their currency. 'Full faith and credit' is all they have for its support, and that is eroding.

Become a monk, and starve the central bank.

That is the point that the author forgot to make, but I think it's the most important point of all. Bringing 'bigger' guns or 'speaking truth to power' is useless when the problem is neither weapons nor truth, but money.

If a small and limited government is too much to ask, then an impoverished government is a close second choice. A fascist government, as we have now, is of course the worst of all systems and probably represents the death of a particular society.

(NO government would be best, of course, but that hasn't happened since the dawn of 'civilisation' and perhaps never will again, this side of heaven.)

Or taken at all, if it can be helped. Do not click on their links or their sites. Do not listen to their broadcasts. Do not take anyone seriously who does rely on them or take them at face value (that's anyone, including Tyler). If the alt media references it, do not click on the link to confirm; just believe it or not using other tools (context, credibility, logic, other source confirmation, etc.).

The MSM is NOTHING but fascist propaganda. Default starting point for any MSM source should be disbelief.

If it's on the MSM and it's news, it will be better reported somewhere on the alt media. Find it there.

If it's on the MSM and it isn't on the alt media, it isn't news.

Either way, by ignoring the MSM completely, you are not missing anything except a waste of time. Even better, this is one of several ways we can starve the beast.

I think Patton's (or Geo.C.Scott's) point was more pragmatic - of course you have to show up to the fight to have a chance, but in any dispute, once the parties engage, it is the side that can maximaze injury with the least losses who typically "win."  Put another way "determination" alone is rarely a substitute for superior firepower and tactics.

Too bad.

So sad!

Tragically true article:

... in the United States every disaster perpetrated on the citizenry can be used by the empowered to legally siphon money “from the people” to the looters. ... we are certainly not going to use the scientific method as opposed to magic for problem-solving. ... Speaking to power within a power vacuum anyone?; a vacuum being a place where sound cannot travel.

Hey Tyler Durden, was that a white flag?

The probably you did not understand the sacrfice (even though apparantely foolish) of the tank man and he vanished thereafter. He did not sacrifice his life for nothing. He made a point: Evil always stabs in the back. It does not have the courage to come from the front.

I know I will go to downvote hell for this but there is some precedence for the Monk's beliefs...... the hippies.  Maybe if everybody refused to fight, got but naked, screwed like rabbits and did tons of drugs this could be defeated.  Of course this wont happen as everybody has been stewing in anger.  Some people believe that you can only effectively oppose something with it's true opposite.

Monks existed centuries before hippies, and still exist- unlike hippies.

Monks don't screw like rabbits- hippies did.

Monks (some) were occasionally inebriated- hippies (most) were regulary inebriated.

So- not so much opposites- as completely different.

What troubles me is the need for an event sufficiently large enough to dissolve the current state of affairs, yet also weak enough to not drop everyone back to the days of Og, Son of Fire.

Too small a crisis and we end up with total totalitarianism, as opposed to the current kinda, sorta totalitarianism that only flexes when the peasants get uppity.

Too large a crisis and we will long for the day when we slept in air-conditioned palaces stuffed with food, drink, and entertainment on demand while simultaneously complaining about how oppressive and unfair everything was getting to be.

Our future may well encompass free health care for all- but you'll have to provide your own set of pliers to the dentist.

At the same time, however, the looming menace of technology seeems to suggest that the window of opportunity for creative destruction of the current system may be more limited in time than we suppose.

"But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new dark age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, This was their finest hour."

Nations are bullshit creations by those who wish to impose their will on others - fields to divide up the herd into manageable sized groups. They have the added benefit, for those who crave power, of being an easy way to set one group against another so they are too busy fighting each other to go after the true enemy of humanity - so-called 'leaders'.

Without nations or 'leaders', how much war would there be?

Not a lot, IMHO.

Divided WE fall.
Divided I succeed.
Kick the habit of collectivist thinking!

What do I mean?

What I mean is, humans have heard every topic described only in collectivist terms, that even individualists only think in collectivist terms!

Think I'm kidding?  Not at all.  I'm being completely straight and literal.

Think about it.

What do "individualists" and advocates of "individual liberty" discuss endlessly?  They talk about supporting, voting-for and electing candidates that are pro individualism and individual liberty.

That is PURE collectivism.

That is falling for the collectivist lie and scam that "you must have at least half the people on your side (majority vote) to enjoy individualism or liberty".  Since when do individualists believe they need the approval of the collective to enjoy individualism and liberty?

I'm not sure when.  Perhaps most individualists have always been collectivists.

But at least a small percentage of individualists have been real individualists, who adopted the ideas, actions and attitude that said, "To hell with everyone!  They can adopt whatever insane, self-destructive ideas, actions and attitudes they want.  But I'll have no part of it.  I'm going my own way, and they can do without me.".

After which they moved to whatever was the most attractive "frontier" to them at their time in history, and established a life of as much individualism and liberty as they could muster.

While full-bore "frontiers" are far and few between today, modern versions of these true individualists do "get the hell outta dodge", and do find ways to remain mostly or entirely "out of sight, out of mind".  These true individualists know a few simple facts.  Like... just moving out of the fictional "nation" and "jurisdiction" that considers them a "citizen" == "slave", and into a well chosen alternative, dramatically increases the degree of individualism and liberty they can enjoy.

They also know, by living in [extremely/very] rural areas, and adopting certain specific productive activities and lifestyle, they can almost completely avoid predators-DBA-government (as well as most other human predators).

These are the decisions and actions of real individualists.  They are not captured by the self-contradictory and utterly hopeless approaches of "collectivist individualism".

-----

If you actually care about individualism and liberty, extract every last vestige of "collectivist individualism" from your brain.  Then sit down and make plans for how you can best put that individual who is YOU, into the place and activity that lets you enjoy the most individualism and liberty possible on the planet as it is today.

And just forget "collectivist individualism".

That is a collectivist TRAP... a trap that prevents advocates of individualism and liberty from ever achieving any individualism or liberty.  What's the point of that?

So-called democracy is just the tyranny of the many over the few.

Think about 'the many' I might be referring to and ask yourself if you really want those guys telling you what to do.

And that's IF voting actually made any difference.

Voting means you are going along with the game, and validates those who think they have the right to tell others what to do, that's all.

When government is the problem, there's only one solution.

All revolutions start with "No!" What comes after is complex: Resist, fight, run, or hide.

However it must always be remembered that tyranny needs us, while we do not need them. That is the root of their tyranny, but it is our obedience that enables their tyranny.

See you on the battlefield, or listen for my tapping out of "-.-- -.-- --.." on my cell wall from within one of Zion's basements.

Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission..

The Four Rs
Rejection: Stop Paying, Stop Obeying, Stop Playing
Revolution: It is inevitable, so prepare, as they are.
Restoration: Restore the American people, country and Constitutional republic.
Retribution: The guilty must answer for their crimes against the American people and the Constitution.

"I think you have a point, but you only seem to care about Americans."

You are correct. While I do care for the plight of others, especially at the murderous hands of the DC US and their Zionist masters, my chief concerns lie with the fate of my country, America, and my fellow Americans.

However, when we Americans are successful in destroying the DC US' tyranny, and Zion can no longer utilize the DC US as their war dog, the rest of the world will be that much safer. So indirectly, my, and the rest of we Liberty and Constitutionally minded Americans, are also serving the rest of the world.

Those around the world that are sick of the plunder, the murder, and power's self-serving justice, must stand up, where they are, and say "No!" Because, while the problem is global, the enemy is local.

In the coming fight for Liberty, always keep in mind Tyranny's Paradox: "Tyranny needs you, we do no need them, and they depend upon our conformity."

See you on the battlefield, or hear your tapping out your sign of life and Liberty from some basement cell in some corner of Zion's empire.

Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission..
