Ron Paul Warns Seizure Of Russian Assets Will Hasten Dollar Demise

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Ron Paul via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity,

While much of the world focused last week on whether or not the Federal Reserve was going to raise interest rates, or whether the Greek debt crisis would bring Europe to a crisis, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague awarded a $50 billion judgment to shareholders of the former oil company Yukos in their case against the Russian government. The governments of Belgium and France moved immediately to freeze Russian state assets in their countries, naturally provoking the anger of the Russian government.

The timing of these actions is quite curious, coming as the Greek crisis in the EU seems to be reaching a tipping point and Greece, having perhaps abandoned the possibility of rapprochement with Europe, has been making overtures to Russia to help bail it out of its mess. And with the IMF's recent statement pledging its full and unconditional support to Ukraine, it has become even more clear that the IMF and other major multilateral institutions are not blindly technical organizations, but rather are totally subservient lackeys to the foreign policy agenda emanating from Washington. Toe the DC party line and the internationalists will bail you out regardless of how badly you mess up, but if you even think about talking to Russia you will face serious consequences.

The United States government is desperately trying to cling to the notion of a unipolar world, with the United States at its center dictating foreign affairs and monetary policy while its client states dutifully carry out instructions. But the world order is not unipolar, and the existence of Russia and China is a stark reminder of that. For decades, the United States has benefited as the creator and defender of the world's reserve currency, the dollar. This has enabled Americans to live beyond their means as foreign goods are imported to the US while increasingly-worthless dollars are sent abroad. But is it any wonder after 70-plus years of a depreciating dollar that the rest of the world is rebelling against this massive transfer of wealth?

The Europeans tried to form their own competitor to the dollar, and the resulting euro is collapsing around them as you read this. But the European Union was never considered much of a threat by the United States, existing as it does within Washington's orbit. Russia and China, on the other hand, pose a far more credible threat to the dollar, as they have both the means and the motivation to form a gold-backed alternative monetary system to compete against the dollar. That is what the US government fears, and that is why President Obama and his Western allies are risking a cataclysmic war by goading Russia with these politically-motivated asset seizures. Having run out of carrots, the US is resorting to the stick.

The US government knows that Russia will not blithely accept Washington's dictates, yet it still reacts like a petulant child flying into a tantrum whenever Russia dares to exert its sovereignty. The existence of a country that won't kowtow to Washington's demands is an unforgivable sin, to be punished with economic sanctions, attempting to freeze Russia out of world financial markets; veiled threats to strip Russia's hosting of the 2018 World Cup; and now the seizure of Russian state assets.

Thus far the Russian response has been incredibly restrained, but that may not last forever. Continued economic pressure from the West may very well necessitate a Sino-Russian monetary arrangement that will eventually dethrone the dollar. The end result of this needless bullying by the United States will hasten the one thing Washington fears the most: a world monetary system in which the US has no say and the dollar is relegated to playing second fiddle.

Why is nobody siezing Israeli assets in France or Belgium to satisfy a Swiss ruling for the $1.2 billion in compensation they owe Iran for stealing the Eilat-Ashkelon pipeline from them?

Same international court in Switzerland. Same monetary judgement. Israel has refused to pay back a dime. France and Belgium both have plenty of Israeli assets they can seize.

Do international court settlements only count if the U.S. doesn't like the country? Hell, you know that if the judgement was against Iran we would already be Tomahawking their ass for 'payment'.

Why is Israel more important to the U.S. than Russia? What dual-citizen Israeli-firster traitor in congress decided THAT on behalf of the entire United States?

Because a unipolar world just means Americans get even more drunk and more high.

I mean seriously...the West did not destroy the value of the Russian Rubble.

"far too many Ron Paul fans among us."........as compared to what?  Obama fans, Kissinger fans, Yellen fans?  what?  If you're going to invoke some kind of omniscient relative comparison you best be following it through - you know - like Ron Paul does.  You're about financial education, but, you're really not interested seriously because anybody really interested in financial education would never say what you just said.  So, you must be, by extension a neo Keynesian - a pragmatic defaulting government apologist who can't stand the thought of liberty minded solutions to state sponsored problems - inflation, unemployment, etc.  Or you're just an asshat who is too lazy to put a cogent argument together - like not even two thoughts.

Spend some time waching Paul grill Bernanke and Greenspan over the years and then decide how, or, whether Paul's position on monetary policy squares with your financial education.  Its not about Ron Paul.  Its about the idea.  Stop confusing the two.  Makes you look really fucking stupid.

Too right on the Russian artillery comment, the US have their own problems, but the Russians also have their own self inflicted problems.

They would be riding high today with a well funded state, and an economy sucking in investment from all around the world being a credible alternative to the US, instead people are seeing the small war they have on their border and avoiding them like the plague.  For that reason the Russian, and Chinese, threat isn't as big as it should be, both have strong centrally planned states, such economies can only compete against simularly inefficient centrally planned states.

If we (via the federal reserve, and the rest of the western governments) ever get out of the central planning game then Russia and China will be in trouble, even more so if Europe starts acting like a continent of nations.

Europe wants to keep trading with Russia, not avoiding them like the plague, but they are afraid of the US and what they will do. Bulgaria signed on for South Stream until they got nasty calls and threats from the US of sending in NGO's to create grass roots opposition and the resultant turmoil. Hungary too. France was going to deliver the Mistral ships until pressure from the US got too great. That bullshit $6 billion fine against the French bank for some bogus crap that supposedly happened years ago was retaliation and an example to what can happen if not following US dictates. Poland and the Baltic States are all screaming Russian invasion but that's only because they are broke and need US money to stay afloat. Things are so bad in the Baltics skilled tradesmen and even lowly laborers are working abroad. Russia had to take Crimea because they were correctly afraid that the ultimate goal for the US backed coup in Ukraine was to deny Russia the use of their only warm water naval base that's located in the Black Sea.

Face reality pal. The US has no friends, only paid for bitches or countries knuckling under to US economic or military pressure. Europe went along with the sanctions on Russia but they had to pushed. They consider Russia a great trading partner, they did a lot of trade with Russia, that lives up to it's end of the deal unlike the US which only cares about itself and can be unreliable. In the meantime "isolated" Russia has made trade deals with over 25 countries and more on the way. Russia aced out US bitch Saudi Arabia for the #1 supplier of oil to China. Not priced in dollars either. South America loves Russia too.The Russians have also developed an alternative to Swift even though Swift has been resisiting US pressure to kick them out. Russia and China and many of their partners are doing deals in barter or in any currency other than the dollar. The US has been trying to economically destroy Venezuela since they backed a failed coup in 2012 and went so far to put sanctions on them for being a danger, what a joke, to US security. The Russians have stepped in offering expertise and cash for their oil industry.

The coup in Ukraine was another salvo against Russia as the US attempts to keep it from being a challenger. As stated above Russia is neither falling apart or becoming isolated which pisses off the US to no end. Russia may even piss off the Euros and save Greece. The US is getting outmaneuvered and yet people like you drink the kool aid and believe the US is always on the high road and is the worlds savior, which is totally false.

Hasten Dollar Demise?

Isnt that the plan from the start

Kyle Bass ...

"How do you solve a problem when you are running a 10% fiscal deficit. You are not going to get growth in the absence of private sector demand. So the government's idea now is we are going to export our way out of this. When I asked a senior member of the Obama administration last week, 'how are we going to grow exports if we do not allow nominal wage deflation?', and he just said we're going to kill the dollar. It's a dead answer but that's where we're headed".

Don't you mean way more "...enemies of the current fascist apartheid government of Israel..."?

Arab and Jewish Palestinians have lived side by side for centuries - far, far longer than either 1) the current psychopath-led land-stealing state of Israel has existed or 2) their little bitches in the U.S. congress have been putting Israel's interests above those of the citizens of the U.S.

I'm actually a friend of Israel. The Israel that will be - the one where Jews, Muslims, Christians and Rastafarians live together equally. The one that will emerge when rational, moral people living there overthrow the current cruel, paranoid psychopathic thieves that run it as a fake Jewish Extremist caliphate today. The entire Middle East will be a better place when THAT Israel comes to be.

No - it's OK... Really. I live in a country that values free speech more than just about anything. It's one of the core inalienable rights of us citizens - they insisted on amending my constitution explicitly stating so just to clarify that it wasn't a state-granted privilege.

Putting fascists in wood-chippers feet-first is kind of iffy and may qualify for hate speech. Especially if the fascists are powerful government types. We're not allowed to criticize them.

I am allowed to write about throwing little people in wood-chippers - they don't count for crap so it isn't hate speech.

There is no such thing as "not enough gold". That's Keynesian nonsense.

What would hapen is simply deflation. Instead of buying a meal for 0.10 grams of gold, it would cost you 0.05 grams when you swiped your debit card.

The only people who are afraid of deflation are profligate spendthrifts, like our own government. Deflation benefits thrifty people who save their currency.

Run out of gold?

You are thinking of a gold standard. If gold is marked to market it just increases in value compared to fiat. There is at least 170,000 tons of the stuff above ground. That is enough...if it is priced right.

My wag,  Understand the quantity of gold is not the issue.  Depending on the quantity of gold, it might take a 2" cube of gold to buy a car or it might take an amount the size of a pencil eraser or an entire shoebox full.  A reltive exchange value for gold would be established irregardless of whether any gold was mined in a given year or if the economy expanded or contracted in a given time frame.  If you can think of another form of money that would offer the user the same honesty and dicipline that gold does, please let me know.  If Gold wasn't a viable form of money, it wouldn't be under constant attack by the Fed and other global counterfieters.

Armenians have gone transUkrainian? Madness!

Armenia? Oh hell... now I have to figure out where Armenia is...

But the story sounds familiar:

The implication is that since Russia has its hands full in a border war in next-door Ukraine, it would be helpful for West’s containment policy to trigger another flashpoint on Russia’s periphery, and Armenia is one of those peripheral states.

It is no surprise, therefore, that as soon as the Serge Sargisian-Gagik Tsaroukian controversy broke out, news outlets financed and directed by Western countries unanimously took a very critical position vis-à-vis the president’s statements.

It was indeed a political bombshell which President Sargisian lobbed at the oligarch, who is the head of the Prosperous Armenia Party. He portrayed Tsaroukian as “evil” and incompetent in Armenia’s political life.

Is the current president a good guy or is this another bitch fight between corrupt oligarchs? I don't mean any disrespect to the people of Armenia - it sounds like the U.S. is already on the wrong side. But just like with Yanukovich in Ukriaine, neither 'side' had any interest in the people of Ukraine - they only cared about what they could loot from the people.

The only other thing that comes to mind about Armenia is that Turkey and Israel say there was no Armenian genocide no matter how many hundreds of thousands of Armenians died. Genocide can only happen to Jews - it's patented and trademarked by them. No goy 'genocides' are allowed. History revision required: Armenians are not Jewish.

Let me apologize in advance to the people of Armenia. If the U.S. is involved at all, then pain, suffering and crimes against humantiy are sure to follow.

According to this article on RT's website, the protests started because of 17% energy rate hike.

In essence the protesters are unhappy about the hike in electricity prices that are set to increase by 6.93 Dram ($0.0146) per kilowatt. The increase of around 17 percent starting August will result in some extra $85 being added to the average family’s electricity bills per year, according to the local press.

Meanwhile the protest is spreading across Armenia, to Gyumri and Vanadzor where a few hundred people also voiced their anger over the price hikes. Some analysts however view the events in Armenia as reminiscent of the Maidan movement in Kiev last year, where a specific grievance was used as a pretext to get people in the streets via social networks and spark mass riots that toppled the government.

Belarus next?

And you just know that Nuland is baking up some cookies while Xe/Academi snipers are reconnoitering out positions to blow away a few cops and protesters. Massacres always take things over the edge at the big protests - timing and media control is everything. God bless America!

Soros Open Society will also have a hand in it. The protest is supposedly about a 17% rise in electricity cost, yet the protestors won't have a dialog about it with the president? This is an exact replay of the Ukraine Maidan - pick on an issue affecting oridinary citizens and use it to start a process of regime change. The US surely loves its playbook approach to everything.

"Russia and China, on the other hand, pose a far more credible threat to the dollar, as they have both the means and the motivation to form a gold-backed alternative monetary system to compete against the dollar"

Russia and China are as likely to have a gold backed currency as Greece is.

The more crooked the gang of politicians, the more socialist they are, the more they have to fiat to steal.  Sure, we have O'Bammie,.  O'Bammie is relatively cheap compared to the Chinese princes and Russian oligarchs supporting Puutie.

The idea that they will back anything with gold is laughable.

The only time when gold will actually act as currency is following some real collapse.  The wealthy will use it like the prison population uses cigarettes for barter / currency.  Little people will use ammo and whiskey.

Your pet named O'Bammie (is that just to make him sound more positive?) is many times worse.
HE is the frontman for rewaking the cold war.

Just try to think of something more negative... you'll fail.

If the USA and Israel went to war with China and Russia, I think I would have to seriously have to move out of here and cheer on Russia and China. I am disgusted at what this country has become, all thanks to the god damned mother fucking jews who have completely hijacked this country and completed destroyed everything that used to be good about this once great country. Using savages to destroy white culture here and using muslim savages to destroy white culture in europe. While they make sure there is no race mixing or immigration, or blacks coming into good ol  innocent Israel. Where they have a disgusting, immoral, murderous system in Israel that usa funds and supports. They use our military to fight their wars all for the greater israel experience. They did 9-11 to start the war on the muslim, they cover up every black on white rape, murder, crime and then explout the fuck out of the one time a white does something. They brainwash and mindfuck everyone into beleiving whites are evil racist thugs and blacks are poor innocent little good guys that can do no wrong. They funded and dominated the slave trade and then erased themselves from the history books and blamed it on whites, making movies and exploiting them nonstop. They have bankrupted every nation through their fiat fraud. I can only hope that there is a god so these evil fucking parasites can be punished for what they have done, and continue to do. This world would be a wonderful place if it wasn't for them.

Rand Paul Says Confederate Flag Should Be ‘Put in a Museum’

“I think the flag is inescapably a symbol of human bondage and slavery, and particularly when people use it obviously for murder and to justify hatred so vicious that you would kill somebody I think that symbolism needs to end, and I think South Carolina is doing the right thing,” Mr. Paul, the Kentucky Republican and presidential candidate, said in an interview with Jeff Kuhner on WRKO in Boston.

Taking this position, he has just lost libertarian and paleoconservative votes.

The end result of this needless bullying by the United States will hasten the one thing Washington fears the most: a world monetary system in which the US has no say and the dollar is relegated to playing second fiddle.

more likely the US would get the 4th clarinet or bari sax parts.

You know, the parts with lots of whole notes that play only when the entire group is playing.

It's interesting to note that Russia and China always show restraint.

The way I see it, it's the quiet ones you need to be careful of. Even the quietest, will one day react to the constant prodding and really show who has the real power on this planet. And I don't think it's Oh Bummer and his bum chums.

Edited:

Russia has just announced the removal of the discount on gas heading for Ukraine. World War III, here we come. Just a little to much prodding.

-----------

How much Russian money frozen by America's puppet euroPeons = 1.6 B$

How much money Greece owes to euroPeon Union = 1.6 B$

How much money United Nations (also a puppet of US) proposed to help Yemen = 1.6 B$

The Gold Standard was always a false standard.

That said, it could be made to work to balance international trade.  Even better would be a basket of currencies.  Even better would be something based on commodities.  Even better would be a Bancor, which forces commodity flow to balance.

Having Gold be the basis for a sovereign country is a bad idea.  It can be melted down and spirited out of country (as happened when the Jews were kicked out of England).  A country that loses its money then collapses.

Since Gold is inelastic it cannot match the natural S shaped curve of all economies, especially those countries that have an agricultural sector.  Yes, the crops grow in a seasonal pattern.

During depressions Gold goes off and hides, and this gives a superior relation of creditor over debtor, which is usurious.

So, maybe gold to balance international trade, beyond that the verdict of history is very clear...it is stupid to bind your economy to metal.  Money isn't metal.  Money is law.

Following Milton Freidman's ideas of maximising shareholder returns, nearly all Western manufacturing has been moved to China.

We now find China is very powerful, surprise, surprise.

Global super power status tends to follow the workshop of the world.

1800s - UK

1900s - US

2000s - China

The damage is done and the inevitable is playing out.

Here in the UK we know what it’s like to be a super power on the wane.

You’ll get used to it.
