Full retard. But what I really want to know is, is Facebook selling cheaply sourced offshore likes, or are these Made in USA likes?

saints51's picture

Most are fake. It is used by people who produce no value to society by making bots to click likes for an article all the way to page 1 of google since google algo ranking bot loves social media. People spam their website with this crap and pop on google adsense so people can click the ads for a small revenue which is called CPC or cost per click. Yes the internet is super fucked up.

ph00k Fakebook and its NSA-friendly abusers.  Buh Bitcoin!

Occident Mortal's picture

Revenue doesn't mean shit.

What matters is net profit.

Walmart nets $15-17 bn

Facebook nets $2.9bn

For Facebook to justify its market cap they need to grow their bottom line five fold. Tricky when they have already reached global saturation with their flagship.

large_wooden_badger's picture

Well now, fake clicks are a goldmine in advertising valuation! The Chinese even put melamine in theirs.

Sudden Debt's picture

I had to migrate my company facebook account to a bussiness page and I lost 5000 friend in the process....

cherry picker's picture

I wouldn't call them friends if they couldn't be bothered to find your new page.

However, I lost one wife to somebody she met on facebook, but that relationship only lasted three weeks.  I guess what goes around comes around.

Bangin7GramRocks's picture

Shit on me if you must, but Zuckerburg is the most profitable advertiser since William Randolph Hearst 100 years ago. Facebook may not last, but currently it is quite powerful.

FuzzyDunlop21's picture

But not necessarily the most effective. Who do you think uses facebook advertising anyway? Certainly not anyone selling anything tangible. Do you see Boeing selling airplanes on there? Shit no. The people who get the most use out of FB advertising are those who run websites dependant on ad venue. The xojane and BuzzFeed websites, with their click baity titles about "the 10 mostunbelievable nip-slips" or whatever. Its a cycle of trash. In fact its worse than trash, its completely vapid, hollow, nothingness.

Bangin7GramRocks's picture

I agree. But it is worldwide and nickels and dimes become billions of dollars. NBC is loaded with fancy multinational companies and it is a money losing pig. Comcast paid less just to take that bitch. The lure of Facebook is that it is truly worldwide and ubiquitous. You don't need to like it or use it, but you must admit that it is a profitable advertising platform.

"The lure of Facebook is that it is truly worldwide and ubiquitous. "

Among 40-50 year old soccer moms, sure.

I personally haven't been on there in two months.

"You don't need to like it or use it, but you must admit that it is a profitable advertising platform."

Citation needed.

The profitable business owners do not waste money on Facebook advertising. It's profitable all right...for Facebook. For now.

The difference is, one day Facebook will crash into nothing - guaranteed

kaiserhoff's picture

On a long enough time line...

but yes.  Walmart will outlast faceplant by decades.

Dr. Engali's picture

Even if Walmart were to go bankrupt today, they still have tangible assets in real estate. What does Facebook have?

BlueHen1990's picture

Not even just real estate, they have tons of inventory that is currently has recovery values well above their carrying values. They have an operating cycle of roughly 50 days, which is really good for such a massive retailer, and over $9 billion in cash on hand. What does Facebook have??????

localsavage's picture

Facebook has the tribes support.

DetectiveStern's picture

You'd think that but as the NSA's interface to the public it will be propped up as long as the NSA can spy on everyone.

pods's picture

They don't even have to break the rules to do it. YOU allow it. Then they sell it to whoever wants/needs it for a price.

Public-private partnership.

Only took 24 hours for the FBI to come and say hi.

(granted he looks like a putz, but still)

What does Facebook mine from the earth or manufacture?

What happens when a company based entirely on internet views of advertisements loses advertisers becasue no one is buying anything, advertised or not?

saints51's picture

Asking questions like that makes you a terrorist.

Being a straight, white, productive, gun owning, christian wasn't enough?

kaiserhoff's picture

More than sufficient.

You're comped;)

saints51's picture

you seem cool. We can be bunk buddies in FEMA Camp. I hope we are in the same region. Would be cool to have a friend. We can share one of those rubbermaid coffins we paid for.

curbyourrisk's picture

Facebook mines DATA..  that is more important to the direction of this government and they will pay TOP DOLLAR for the information about you.

cherry picker's picture

This little peon brain of mine cannot comprehend the market caps of corporations such as FB and Google and Amazon when you compare revenue, assets (brick/mortar/inventory) to Walmart or an Oil company or manufacturer.

The latter companies will always be worth something if they are not indebted to the eyeballs and that also affects share value.

Facebook could be gone in a few days and there would be no physical evidence except for a data center here or there.

Hell, a person would be better off playing slots (slowly) :)

SERReal1's picture

Amazon does at least have Distribution Centers where they do house product (assets). Facebook and Google do not sell any physical goods.

Bay of Pigs's picture

Disgusting and appalling.

fudge's picture

How fucking low can society sink.

Dr. Engali's picture

Not justifying Facebook's valuation, but have you been to Walmart lately? Just saying.

SERReal1's picture

True. However, what have you bought from Facebook lately?

BarkingCat's picture

I have not bought anything from FecesBook, nor do I have a page or account with them. Zuckerburglar can suck on a wild hogs dick and swallow.
He is a intellectual property thief and I do not knowingly do business with thieves.

gatorengineer's picture

walmart should have tanken on Amazon sooner, now they are pretty well fooked, (that is as long as no one realizes Amazon is loosing money) and will likely tansform into a grocery chain.

SERReal1's picture

I have an idea and don't produce anything, give me a $500 Billion market cap now! /sarc.

large_wooden_badger's picture

Facebook is now straight up crowd-sourced populist propoganda interspersed with occasional updates on gym, tan laundry status and rescue dogs. It's a goldmine for the psyops folks. They'll never let it fail. Walmart on the other hand, they're a private-sector for-profit business that has no place in the planned communist utopia.

gatorengineer's picture

I disagree.  There will always be a need for brick and morter place to spend your SNAP money.

large_wooden_badger's picture

Money will be obsolete. From each his ability, to each his need. Five year plans baby!

BarkingCat's picture

Good. Cannot wait. I was born in Soviet paradise and know very well how it functions.
I'll transition to a leach and let all the fucking Obama true believers become the productive units.
I will simply check out and watch the whole thing fall to shit like all the other communist lands of plenty.

bloostar's picture

The worst part of this fad are those companies who insist on referring you to fartbookface.com because they're too lazy to create their own dedicated website... Really gets my goat when an ad like that appears on TV. I don't WANT to visit faceplook.com! You hear me?

Dixie Flatline's picture

There are some employers who will not even consider you for employment if you do not have a FB page.  Of course, do you want to work for an entity that would require such idiocy?

cherry picker's picture

I haven't heard that one before.

I wouldn't work for an employer like that and I am sure I am not the only one.

They are just limiting their potential candidates.

bloostar's picture

True, the first place a young manager/interviewer will look is now FB or Google. Guess us 30 to 40 something's are ki d of bug***ed, especially when a bus spotter sharing the same name hits the top of the search list!
