White House Lies (Again): Jonathan "Stupidity Of The American People" Gruber Called "Our Hero"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

Jonathan Gruber, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology economist whose comments about the health-care law touched off a political furor, worked more closely than previously known with the White House and top federal officials to shape the law, previously unreleased emails show.

The emails show frequent consultations between Mr. Gruber and top Obama administration staffers and advisers in the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services on the Affordable Care Act. They show he informed HHS about interviews with reporters and discussions with lawmakers, and he consulted with HHS about how to publicly describe his role.

The White House has described Mr. Gruber as having a limited role in crafting the law. President Barack Obama in 2014 said Mr. Gruber was “some adviser who never worked on our staff.” Mr. Gruber told Congress last year he disagreed with the widespread characterization of his role as the “architect” of Mr. Obama’s health-care plan.

“Thank you for being an integral part of getting us to this historic moment,” according to Sept. 9, 2009 email to Mr. Gruber from Jeanne Lambrew, a top Obama administration health adviser who worked at HHS and the White House. In a November 2009 email, she called Mr. Gruber “our hero.”

– From the Wall Street Journal article: MIT Economist Jonathan Gruber Had Bigger Role in Health Law, Emails Show

Pretty much anyone reading this post will be intimately familiar with Jonathan “stupidity of the American voter” Gruber. In case you need a refresher, here’s an excerpt from last fall’s piece, Video of the Day – Obamacare Architect Credits “Lack of Transparency” and “Stupidity of the American People” for Passage of Healthcare Law:

An architect of the federal healthcare law said last year that a “lack of transparency” and the “stupidity of the American voter” helped Congress approve ObamaCare.

He suggested that many lawmakers and voters didn’t know what was in the law or how its financing worked, and that this helped it win approval.

“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” Gruber said. “And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass.”

Although the mindset above clearly represents the Obama Administration’s opinion of the unwashed masses, it naturally went into damage control mode after Mr. Gruber’s comments went viral, insisting that the economist played only a very minor role in crafting and selling Obamacare. Similar to most things that come out of Obama’s mouth, this was a boldfaced lie.

The Wall Street Journal reports that:

Jonathan Gruber, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology economist whose comments about the health-care law touched off a political furor, worked more closely than previously known with the White House and top federal officials to shape the law, previously unreleased emails show.

The emails, provided by the House Oversight Committee to The Wall Street Journal, cover messages Mr. Gruber sent from January 2009 through March 2010. Committee staffers said they worked with MIT to obtain the 20,000 pages of emails.

The administration has sought to distance itself from the economist in the wake of his controversial statements in a 2013 video, where he said the health law passed because of the “huge political advantage” of the legislation’s lacking transparency. He also referred to the “stupidity of the American voter.”

Republicans seized on the comments as evidence that supporters of the law purposely misled the public about its costs. Mr. Gruber received nearly $400,000 from HHS for his work focusing on health-policy computer models, according to public records.

Cronyism pays very, very well in America.

“His proximity to HHS and the White House was a whole lot tighter than they admitted,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), chairman of the House oversight committee. “There’s no doubt he was a much more integral part of this than they’ve said. He put up this facade he was an arm’s length away. It was a farce.”

Mr. Chaffetz on Sunday sent a letter to HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell requesting information justifying the department’s sole-source contract with Mr. Gruber for his work on the health law.

Mr. Gruber declined to comment.

One email indicates Mr. Gruber was invited to meet with Mr. Obama. In a July 2009 email, he wrote that Mr. Orszag had “invited me to meet with the head honcho to talk about cost control.”

Mr. Gruber also informed HHS about interviews he had with health policy reporters such as Ezra Klein, previously of the Washington Post and now with Vox Media. In a November 2009 email, Mr. Gruber let a top HHS official know the conversation went well and the story would post soon.

Mainstream media on the case as usual.

In a Sept. 23, 2009, email, Mr. Gruber emailed Ms. Lambrew saying “pharma is going to be a huge winner from this bill—maybe $15 billion/year in incremental revenue. Any way to go after them harder for financing?”

You want to know who wasn’t a huge winner? The stupid American voter.

I have zero use for Obama, and think he has been an absolute disaster, but to be unable to see the continuum from Bush to this administration is to stay stuck stuck with the false belief that party politics is going to save us.  In fact, Bush just proved how dumb and flaccid the American populace has become.  He lied us in to a war, then got re-elected while draining the budget surplus he inherited and piled on huge additional debt.

There were 3 straight years of annual budget surplus.  Do you not understand the difference between an annual budget and the cumulative debt?

Read it and weep as your delusional bubble is burst right here in red & blue:

http://www.factcheck.org/2008/02/the-budget-and-deficit-under-clinton/

....and if you still don't understand how we were false-flagged and lied into war with Iraq, well, why waste time on you, as you are hoplessly brain dead.

Basically it purports to confirm the common belief that during the Clinton Administration, the US federal government had a budget surplus. This is a fairly widespread belief, being believed by most Democrats, and many Republicans (especially those who want to take partial credit for it).

The problem is, it is ridiculously easy to debunk it.

http://quaap.com/D/clinton-surplus-factcheck

The government can have a surplus even if it has trillions in debt, but it cannot have a surplus if that debt increased every year. This article is about surplus/deficit, not the debt. However, it analyzes the debt to prove there wasn't a surplus under Clinton.

Good point and Clinton was able to ride a housing and dotcom bubble. That does not negate Dubya's incredible fiscal irresponsibility. start with the "Medicare Modernization Act" and it goes on and on.  Dubya is not a victim in earning the "Spent like a Drunk Democrat" handle...

And yeah your right Clinton was very lucky as far as economic cycles goes , and also had the good fortune of following Papa Bush and not Dubya and his foreign policy clusterfuck in quicksand quagmire.

You can play mental masturbation all day if you want to, but if your budget says we are going to spend $100 and your income is $105, you have a budgetary surplus of $5.  You may then apply that $5 to your the cumulative debt if you chose.

When Congress develops a budget, it includes payments required to service the debt to derive the total number.  If at the end of the year income exceeds expenditures.  That is the way it works, and any President who achieves such a surplus is going to claim it.  It happened in 1951 under Truman, 1969 under Johnson, then again in 1998, 99, 2000, & 2001.

You can make up any perspective you desire, like you friend at quaap.com, whoever that is, but you are just pissing in the wind and grasping at straws to protect a personal point of view.  Facts are terrible things when it comes to points of view.

Stupidity of people. Stupidity is a global problem not regional anymore. The bigger the propaganda reach the smaller the perception of the world becomes. There is some absolute natural law relationship in there somewhere that is not arbitrary and capricious.... Something about Einstein and his theory of relativity is at work here (which is incomplete so it doesn't rate as a law just yet) and the fact that numerically you numbers can grow infinitely large and small at the same time while 2 points can stay fixed in relation to each other. Or distances geographically haven't change but our perceptions have gotten smaller as the amount of information has gotten larger. It seems stupidity is a function of perception (which limits knowledge).

Resistance is the enemy of stupidity. Something about the universal relationship of V=IR, one of those natural law things that applies across all phenomena. The only arbitrary and capricious thing about that is the where you want to set your resistance level to stupidity. Everything else balances around that because that is how natural law works. It is honest like that unlike man made laws which are not based in natural law conceptually or otherwise.

Tue, 06/23/2015 - 13:17 | 6225999 Dewey Cheatum Howe
Dewey Cheatum Howe's picture

To expand on the perception thing and Einstein everyone knows his famous formula. E=mc^2. What I see is just the area of a circle stated differently aka A=pi*r^2. It is the same thing describing different phenomena. What is common is shape of the phenomena. See how the relativity of information in relation to perception also works in reverse here. So understanding the underlying relationship is also the enemy of stupidity when things grow larger. They define natural law...

It is important to understand this basic relationship and the interplay in both directions. This is a big part of how the matrix works to keep you dumb and ignorant since emotion is the chemical driver of perception aka pleasure and pain.

This is how utilitarianism works.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism

Utilitarianism is a theory in normative ethics holding that the moral action is the one that maximizes utility. Utility is defined in various ways, including as pleasure, economic well-being and the lack of suffering. Utilitarianism is a form of consequentialism, which implies that the "end justifies the means". This view can be contrasted or combined with seeing intentions, virtues or the compliance with rules as ethically important. Classical utilitarianism's two most influential contributors are Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill. Bentham, who takes happiness as the measure for utility, says, "it is the greatest happiness of the greatest number that is the measure of right and wrong".

or alternately defined as

Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do. On the one hand the standard of right and wrong, on the other the chain of causes and effects, are fastened to their throne. They govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think...

More race baiting, fast track trade bill.

McConnell has promised both bills, as well as a customs and enforcement bill favored by Democrats, will reach Obama’s desk by the end of the week.

“If we all keep working together and trusting each other, then by the end of the week the President will have TPA, TAA, and AGOA and Preferences on his desk — with Customs in the process of heading his way too,” he said on the floor.

Nice that it all comes together as Jade Helm is kicking off, along with other potentially nefarious events.

From intellihub

First, JADE HELM 15. From my assessment it appears Jade Helm has unofficialy gone live EARLY, splintered into multiple exercises, and gone global. But that is not the half of it.

Officially it begins in July, on the same weekend the elite meet safely in Bohemian Grove. And get this, the start date actually coincides with the Cremation of Care ritual. Some speculate it actually represents the physical manifestation of the Cremation of America.

The Cremation of Care is an annual theatrical production written, produced and performed by and for members of the Bohemian Club, and staged at the Bohemian Grove near Monte Rio, California at a small artificial lake amid a private old-growth grove of Redwood trees.

The dramatic performance is presented on the first night of the annual encampment[1] as an allegorical banishing of worldly cares for the club members, and "to present symbolically the salvation of the trees by the club",[2] but the secretive nature of the Bohemians, and the political power of some of its members, has attracted notice from conspiracy theorists such as Alex Jones, who characterized the Cremation of Care as a ritualistic shedding of conscience and empathy, and an "abuse of power"

Titsoona Mangina turned out to be the biggest closeted Neocon / buttboy. I got friends who drank his kool-aide and they twist themselves into pretzels trying to explain away his bullshit, bullshit that they would not have condoned in a Republican president. Let's hear it for dumbasses who pick a side!

RE: this article and the TPA article

I no longer feel sorry for Americans.  This crap certainly did not begin with the current generations but it most certainly will end with this generation.

The question now is not how to stop it but what are you going to do now?

It would be interesting to know how much money he was paid by the healthcare, pharma, and insurance industries for "speaking engagements" both before and after the law was enacted.

Lot of stupid comments on here.

I don't remember voting for this piece of shit. My CONgresscritters (except 1 Senator) didn't vote on this shit. Nor did I vote for Obama. You want to blame anyone, don't blame the 60+ % of calls to CONgress running against Obamacare. The people were smarter than the CONgresscritters who voted FOR it. You do the propagandists work when you blame the ordinary American. We weren't allowed to know just what was in that bill, remember ?

Obama is not the problem. The problem is the true believers who do his bidding. Without them, he has nothing.

It's this overlooked stuff that is gold.  Proof that Obamacare is really a kick back scheme from the Healthcare industry to politicians.

In a Sept. 23, 2009, email, Mr. Gruber emailed Ms. Lambrew saying “pharma is going to be a huge winner from this bill—maybe $15 billion/year in incremental revenue. Any way to go after them harder for financing?”

You know, it is tempting to agree with Gruber, and simply blow off all of this carnage as the result of the "stupidity of the American people".

At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, according to the notes of Dr. James McHenry, when he asked Dr. Benjamin Franklin the following question:

“Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”

Dr. Benjamin Franklin replied:

“A Republic, if you can keep it.”

At the time, Benjamin Franklin never contemplated that anyone other than white male property owners would ever be given the right to vote – and yet he still had doubts about whether the Republic could survive.

His presumption was that an educated and wise electorate was necessary for the survival of the Republic.

What would he think now?

1)      Over 40% of the population now receives benefits in one form or another from the government.  A high percentage of these people have never been productively employed and have little or no practical knowledge or skills that allow them to be productive.  Yet they all get to vote, which they will continue to due in favor of their wallets.

2)      All of the presidential (and other) candidates that have any hope of surviving the electoral process, be they Republican or Democrat, need to be “vetted” by the cabal or face character assassination by the cabalist controlled media.  Once elected, presidents need to make an obligatory “pilgrimage to Tel Aviv” to ensure that they are sufficiently subservient to the regime.

3)      This same cabal has either instigated or promoted most of the movements in America that have been destructive to our society in the last 100 years:

a.      Formed the Federal Reserve

b.      Established the Frankfurt School in America

c.      Created and promulgated Boasian Anthropology

d.      Promoted all the major wars of the 20th and 21st centuries

e.      Created and managed major communist revolutions

f.      Systematically falsified history (e.g. the Holohoax)

g.      Instigated and/or facilitated numerous false flag operations against the US

h.      Engineered mass third world immigration into our country

i.       Socially engineered the lowering of white birth rates below replacement levels

j.       Created or promoted socially destructive ideologies (feminism, gay rights, etc.)

k.      Advocated the criminalization of free speech (hate speech laws)

l.       Promoted and/or financed destructive vices (substance abuse, pornography, materialism, etc.) either directly or through control of the media

He would probably agree that a lot of this is the result of the "stupidity of the American people", largely because of what we have allowed the electorate to become.

I also think he would be less inclined to blame the victim, and acknowledge that the decline of America had a lot of help along the way – from people that he wouldn’t have even called Americans.
