Dangerous, Phony 'Gun-Control'-Logic Strikes Again

I’m not going to make a trite comparison to Nazi Germany.
That seems to be the libertarian thing to do whenever politicians bring up gun control.
Yes, it’s true that throughout history, as long as there has been government, politicians have first sought to disarm their populations before descending into totalitarianism.
But I don’t think that’s what’s happening here.
In the wake of yet another horrible, senseless, shooting, there are once again growing calls to “do something” about all the “gun violence” in America.
This response is pretty natural. It’s cause and effect: when something creates pain, we want to stop the pain.
The logical syllogism is that if criminals are killing people with guns, then ‘we’ need to control guns.
Mr. Obama himself has been thoroughly vocal on the subject, plainly stating that “innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun”.
Now he wants to do something about it.
And to be fair, I really doubt there’s any sinister intent; the President is just doing what he feels is necessary to protect people.
That’s the thing Presidents always say, after all. It’s always some line about how ‘protecting the American people is their #1 responsibility.’
Actually it’s not.
In fact, the word “protect” appears just one time in Article II of the Constitution (the part that deals with the President’s responsibilities).
And it has nothing to do with protecting the American people.
The word is used in reference to the oath of office that every President has taken since George Washington– to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Funny thing about the Constitution is that it includes the “right of the people to keep and bear Arms.”
So ultimately the President’s responsibility is to the Constitution, not to succumb to a knee-jerk reaction that doesn’t actually even make sense.
Yes people are angry. And perhaps even scared. But the logic doesn’t add up.
Number one, some people are just crazy. Completely batshit crazy.
This kid who shot up a church because he hated black people was crazy.
And there’s no amount of legislation that’s can protect people from crazy. If someone is really so psycho that they want to inflict harm, they’ll find a way.
I saw the most horrendous video the other day. And I’m sorry I watched it, as it showed a beautiful 17-year-old girl getting stoned to death by hundreds of men in her tribe.
Those guys are crazy. And they murdered this girl. No guns. Just rocks.
So if we’re going to have gun control, we might as well have some stone control to go along with it.
More importantly, whenever politicians talk about gun control, they express the most bizarre logic.
They think guns in the hands of civilians are a danger to society, whereas guns in the hands of the government are protecting society.
And whenever there’s some heinous incident of police brutality, they always tell us that it’s an isolated event that does not reflect on the police community in general.
Then they make the problem worse with massive federal funding that turns police forces into paramilitary organizations, complete with urban assault vehicles.
But the same logic should be applied for the millions of people who responsibly own firearms. One crazed lunatic certainly does not reflect on everyone.
Yet when an incident like this does occur, the government response is to more heavily control public access to firearms.
Look, it’s unfortunate to have to live in a world where there’s crazy people who want to do bad things.
But it would be even more unfortunate to live in a world where we are regulated against being able to defend ourselves against those people… and the institution with the monopoly over ‘protecting’ us has a long-term track record of violence, intimidation, and abuse.

100 years ago people had guns. There were a lot of them around then too. However, they didn't have this problem back then. They didn't even have gun control laws. So why no problems back then? The answer to that question will answer the gun violence questions. It has nothing to do with gun control and everything to do with our society and what has become of it.

While the problem is a breakdown in our society and social order, the root problem of mass murder is psychotropic drugs (Prozac, etc) which are wildly overprescribed to our youth. Looking back over the past couple decades the increase in mass shootings has a high correlation with the increase in prescriptions for such mind/mood altering drugs. Every single time we have a mass killer it eventually comes out they were on one, and in many cases more than one, psychotropic prescription drug. Guns are not the problem, big pharma is the problem. Yes, there are other contributing factors, but this is at the core, and until this is recognized and dealt with the problem will continue and worsen.

Fireworks on the 4th of July? Absolutely, and lots of them. Returning soldiers as heroes? Not at all, they are mercenaries and those who get wounded have just suffered on the job injuries that they were paid to take the risk for. In 1975 when I got out of the army returning soldiers were called baby killers. I didn't like that and did not understand why people were so vehemently against vets. I have since learned what is going on in the world and it isn't good. US military = mass murderers for hire.
To be honest, Simon, I think the Prez has kind of given up on gun control. I don't see him making another play at it over this latest incident.
Here's what I DO see as the strategy (and much more in line with how a "Constitutional Scholar slash Community Disorganizer" would dismantle our country): Destroy long-held symbols by redefining their meaning or changing their appearance. In order:
1. The Confederate Flag is first up, and let's face it, it's toast already. Somehow it's now a symbol of slavery and oppression, just because they say so (inaccurate and highly misleading).
2. Founding Fathers to be debased and ridiculed. Strip their pictures off of money since they were all racists who owned slaves (also not true and highly misleading).
3. This one will take a while, but you watch it happen: REDESIGN OF THE AMERICAN FLAG. The old was was a symbol of a racist, bigoted country that owned slaves. It's gotta go.
4. Final stop on the train: Voiding of the Constitution (because it was created by racist, bigoted men who owned slaves- by this time we won't remember who those men were any more) and replacing it with a much more "progressive" document. There will be no constitutional convention, no vote in any federal or state legislative chambers. It will simply be done and all the powers of government will be fully supporting of it the day it happens.
Progressives/Statists know they can not take down the Constitution one Amendment at a time. It has to be taken down all at once in it's entirety.
I'm sure this will sound racist or paranoid to most, but there's no doubt in my mind that Obama's only purpose in life is to wage passive-aggressive war on white people. After all, it was his father Frank's dream to dedicate one's life to that purpose.

SO funny you brought him up.. I knew Harris and had some interesting conversations with him about some of these issues. This morning was thinking about mentioning some of the things he said in Cows, Pigs, Wars, Witches about single parent homes, especially in the system created to get black men out of the home. Also had some interesting discussion about rising rates of all forms of homosexuality as population pressures go up. Well worth reading some of his popular books, especially as so much of what he wrote 20-30 years ago has come to pass. Mostly he seemed to look at various cultural phenomenon and then suggest such and such would happen... will some rather interesting accuracy it turns out.
Cui Bono, very interesting. I don't know if in the 2nd edition they changed anything, I was surprised to see such frank talk about the crime issue but, as you stated, he surely called it. An amazing man.
At the time I read his works they rubbed my un-awakened self the wrong way a bit.... Now I see exactly why they did. Now where did I put those books....... Time to take another look.
The problem isn't guns per se, it's firearms in the hands of mentally disturbed psychiatric patients on prescription SSRI anti-psychotics and other psychotropic pharmaceuticals. Of the last 35 mass-shootings in this country, almost ALL of the perpetrators were on some form of prescribed SSRI. Even the kid in Charleston was reportedly on the narcotic suboxone, a narcotic that is used to treat opiate addiction. But it's a $2.4 billion industry, so we can't discuss the real reason behind these shootings lest the pharmaceutical companies face liability and the media companies lose millions in ad revenues.
If you want to see REAL gun violence on a daily basis, look no farther than our southern border with Mexico where narco-state murders are such a fact of life that they do not even make the news any more, especially here in the States. Just this past year alone, in a single incident, 43 school children were kidnapped off a school bus and killed - executed - an entire class wiped out on the orders of local politicians apparently. How much news did that generate in the States? None. Any guesses why??

And don't bother quoting stories of knife-wielding psychotics because fully 99% of the mass murders are done with guns.
Guns may not kill by themselves but they sure make killing more efficient.

You need better gun protection not control. See how the 2 ideas are purposely blurred by the propaganda matrix.
Control means better aim, protection means things like bullet proof vests or Kevlar type clothing. Notice when they start with gun control or any control it is always under the guise of protection.
Taking away guns doesn't take away the threat. That is emotional control being used both ways here. Classic doubleplus good meanings to keep everyone angry and spinning in circular distraction. Nothing gets done and everyone is emotionally polarized.
You make better fabrics that everyone wears that in turn forces the shooters to have better control aka aim which in turn reduces the overall threat to populace at large. But that would require logic and a lack of corruption in the system to happen. Plus it would put a lot of military and police officers out of a job because they might actually have to learn how to shoot accurately and to not waste so much ammo.
Making the target smaller makes everyone of equal size safer when they all have smaller cross section to hit. That is how gun protection works. Protection should be universal not control.
After they took our guns here in Aus, the do-gooders where on such a 'high' they lobbied against large knives, violent video games, alcohol etc...

No, violent crime and gun crime are not one and the same.
Violent crime is gun crime along with a lot of other violent means.
If you listen closely when the talking heads are spouting statistics on violence in the US vs other advanced economies you might notice something interesting.
They always compare the US Violent Crime rate (while specifically implying all of it is gun violence) with the foreign GUN-VIOLENCE rate.
Piers Morgan was the worst at this. Sadly Alex Jones didn't pick on it during his interview. Piers did one worse. He named the total violence numbers as being the gun-crime rate in the US...and he compared them to the UK Gun crime rate...except he forged the numbers. He said the number was 32! (it was, according to the home office, more than double that).
The more honest amongst them still make the specious comparison between total US violent crime, and (fill in foreign country here) GUN crime... But most of them correctly state the statistics, but compare them as though they were the same thing.
Another favorite is to do that same comparison...but with a country a FRACTION of the US's population, making the US seem even MORE violent.
They almost never go into the incidence rate per 100K for violent crime, or dig into the ehnic and cultural make up of those rates.
Because at the end of the day, when they do that the US is different only to the degree that they're living alongside some violent cultures.d And that doesn't make headlines.

When some progressive confronts be about the latest tragedy and turns to gun control my response is:
Guns were mail orderable in the 60's and mass shootings far less common. We know laws have gotten more strict since then. Laws haven't gotten more lax. It's simply not true. So what has changed otherwise?
And then I leave the ball in their court, because it could be any number of things. But it sure as fuck isn't easier access to guns than in the past. I don't care to speculate on things I don't have evidence for. What I do have is evidence of stricter gun laws, and the problem still occurring, if not actually getting worse.
IMO, it's a numbers game. If 1 in 1,000,000 are nutjobs who are prone to doing something like going on a mass shooting, you have 150,000,000 people, that's 150 who are prone to going on a shooting spree. Now, if you bump the population up to 300,000,000 people, that's 300 people who are prone to going on a shooting spree, and they also have more targets.
Cultural genocide. Nobody needs the Confederate Flag to be scrubbed from history.
Nobody needs the ugly truths about the war between the states hidden.

Think we need to set priorities. Do demographic analysis. Take guns away from populations that use guns to commit crimes most frequently. For example, nuns and priest will probably be at the bottom. I could espouse long on our, the American people's, gun rights, and how three amendments protect them, the 2nd., 9th., and 10th., etc. However I need only have the reader think of one, and only one image. I have owned guns and done shooting (skeet, trap, target pistol) for well over 50 years. Personally I think cc is a good idea, provided the permit holder is a good shot and is mentally sound.

The problem here is with 'gun free zones' such as at churches, malls and public schools. They are an attractant to the violently insane. The insane in a 'gun free zone' have no fear that they will be killed.
If we outlawed 'gun free zones' then these incidents would decrease. Also, areas controlled by the Democrat Party, such as Chicago, have much higher gun murder rates than Republican controlled areas. Plano, Texas has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, because most citizens are armed. Any location where gun control has been imposed by the Left has higher gun crime.
The solution would be to outlaw 'gun control laws', 'gun free zones' or the Democrat Party. Your choice.
