Senator Slams Obamatrade: "They Won The Vote, But Lost The Trust Of The American People"

Senator Jeff Sessions will release this statement in response to Senate's vote to advance the fast-track trade bill:

Americans increasingly believe that their country isn’t serving its own citizens. They need look no further than a bipartisan vote of Congress that will transfer congressional power to the Executive Branch and, in turn, to a transnational Pacific Union and the global interests who will help write its rules.

 

The same routine plays out over and again. We are told a massive bill must be passed, all the business lobbyists and leaders tell how grand it will be, but that it must be rushed through before the voters spoil the plan. As with Obamacare and the Gang of Eight, the politicians meet with the consultants to craft the talking points—not based on what the bill actually does, but what they hope people will believe it does. And when ordinary Americans who never asked for the plan, who don’t want the plan, who want no part of the plan, resist, they are scorned, mocked, and heaped with condescension.

 

Washington broke arms and heads to get that 60th vote—not one to spare—to impose on the American people a plan which imperils their jobs, wages, and control over their own affairs. It is remarkable that so much energy has been expended on advancing the things Americans oppose, and preventing the things Americans want.

 

For instance: thousands of loyal Americans have been laid off and forced to train the foreign workers brought in to fill their jobs—at Disney, at Southern California Edison, across the country. Does Washington rush to their defense? No, the politicians and the lobbyists rush to move legislation that would double or triple the very program responsible for replacing them.

 

This ‘econometarian’ ideology holds that if a company can increase its bottom line - whether by insourcing foreign workers or outsourcing production - then it’s always a win, never a downside.

Listen the fuck up Tom. I place my faith in God - not government. I do my best to make sure government answers to me and the Constitution. 

I vote when the issues are worthwhile and a candidate exists that I support. 

As a citizen and a father I have the responsibility to do everything I can to make sure that government remains limited and respects the Constitution. The people of my State are doing a pretty damn good job of sending men to Washington that actually do the right thing, respect the Constitution and traditional American values. 

Perhaps people in other States could do the same. If so, we might have a different country. 

Perhaps I expected too much?

Jeff Sessions is just another Fascist creep like all the rest.  If he had any balls, and truly wanted to stop this thing, all he had to do was go read the bill, then hold a press conference to tell us what it says.

When they came to arrest him, ask what law says an elected official sworn to uphold the Constitution, can be prosecuted for telling his constituents the truth?  That would be a trial I would love to see.  Prosecuting a Senator for protecting us from traitors could be the trial of the century.

But not one single member of Congress has the gumption to do this.  Not one.  Not even Bernie Sanders.  They got just enough votes, which means they let as many as possible vote the other way to help protect them from the voters in their districts - cover for the next elecion.

I agree with everything in Jeff Sessions letter.  Too bad he doesn't.

Well, excuse me, but first, I am not a sitting Senator sworn under oath to uphold the Constitution.

Second, do you consider the actions of the Congress to be an act of treason in this regard?  I do.  From what I have read, if accurate, there are several provisions that go against our Constitution in this bill.

Third, I hear politicians bloviate all the time about what they believe in, but when push comes to shove, they cave to the leadership and do as they are told.  My opinion is that Sessions is playing to the home crowd.  He is a former Federal Prosecutor, Federal Judge, and Atty. General of Alabama.  In other words, a lifelong Federal employee.  

Don't try pissing on my leg and telling me it's raining.

How about addressing the subject of my post - that if ANY Congress Critter truly wanted to see this thing killed, they would expose it to the public and face the consequences of an illegal prosecution.  That is what they are sworn to do, and if they did it, I don't believe that any prosecution would stand and no jury would convict.  Did they swear their loyalty to Obama?  Corporations? Politcal Party?  Or, was it to uphold the Constitution?

I know Congress has used "fast track" before, but I don't understand how it's even constitutional.  If a 2/3rds majority is required for non fast track agreements, you can't just pass a law waiving that requirement.  It can only be done by an ammendment.  I must be missing something.

A State is not a living being.  A rabbit, ant, lion, whale, bacteria, and human are living beings.  A State does nothing.  The politically-active people within the State do everything.  Wherever you live, there are going to be politically-active people, and they are going to be doing something.  You can't get away from them.  You have to stand up to them and become politically active yourself, to protect your interests.  And I think you already understand that, because just posting on this board is political activity, although it may not be ENOUGH political activity to protect your interests against those in your neighborhood, City, County, State, etc., who might, through their own political activity, work to take things away from you.

You are missing that most of the Congress and Senate don't give a shit about the constitution.  From what I have been able to learn it seams that the National Emergency that started in 1933 is re-declared every year.  That suspends the Constitution giving these clowns unchecked powers everything that they do that appears to be on the up and up is merely done to keep the  appearance of the Constitution still being followed... 1933 is when you had a major increase in gov't agencies that are not authorized by the Constitution, the FDA and the making illegal of certain drugs is a good example for people.  A  Constitutional amendment was needed to ban alcohol (pre 1933).  No amendment to ban Pot, Cocaine etc (post 1933).  Weird shit I know but shit none the less.

1) Yes the Confederate flag is being brought up to further instigate racial strife as a means of deflecting attention from the real issues in America, namely our totalitarian government pushing through legislation such as TPP. Why were people ambivalent about the Confederate flag a month ago, but now every media venue features the evils of the Confederate flag and those disgusting racist white people? Very suspicious...

2) The Confederate flag is very relevant to a segment of the population who wishes to resist our totalitarian government. When you consider the Southern states from the perspective of being oppressed by a federal government, when you are educated regarding the horrors and deprivation which people of the South were subjected to at the hands of our totalitarian federal government during the Civil War, you might see this flag in the context of representing a people who are trying to resist subjugation, similar to the Gadsden flag.

Do you know about the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi during the Civil War? The city was sieged and ruthlessly starved by the North until they finally submitted to federal rule. Some accounts say it was 40 years before Vicksburg would celebrate the 4th of July because they remembered what their federal overlords had done to them; other accounts say it was 80 years. The point is, in the South we remember and we hold a grudge, and we know that subjugation could happen again. That is why we hold on to the Confederate flag, not because we are pathological racists. I mean, sure some people here are pathological racists just as they are in any other region of the US. But I've known big cities up North that were far more racially segregated than my home in the South. The Tennessee I live in is not my grandparents' Tennessee; it has changed for the better.

The bottom line is, yes the Confederate flag debate is a sideshow, but there is a lot more to it than racism -- that is what the talking heads want you to look at. Don't pay attention to your encroaching enslavement.

The purpose of this bill is to let US companies move plants to other cheap labor countris, then import the same products they used to make in the US back to the US market without fear of tariffs or bans or any other issues. Of course business leaders (and political donors) support this.

The interesting thing from the Democrats side is that it also lets foreign regulators overturn labor and environmental laws inside the United States!

IMO, it would be a treaty in the general sense, but specific to US law, it would not be a treaty, i.e. Congress should, theoretically be able to modify it at will and unilaterally.  But until their campaign donors go away, that's not going to happen without some benefit to US oligarchs.

Done the same with the Patriot Act. No big complaints from 'citizens' there so they just picked up the ball and ran with it.

Soon most bills and treaties will be secret.

Every time they get away with something they go to something even worse. Just like the 2 year old toddler. 

And when you finally try to do something.... watch out for the biggest tantrum you ever saw.

Will be the same with government.

Today, We the People are made up of a multitude of factions all fighting to see how much they can rob from one another. A unified defense from a tyrannical government is the farthest thing from their small minds.

Like all the other unjust legislation,,, once the corporate scum in DC  pass/ratify it and it is supposedly LAW,  Amerikans move on to the next unjust law or treaty on the agenda to complain about until it too is passed, never once looking back.

Even though they know their representatives in DC are employees of the corporate banks they somehow, still accept this as a legitimate government.
