Consumer Confidence Surges To January Cycle Highs (Near 11 Year Highs)

Tyler Durden's picture

UMich consumer sentiment spiked from 90.7 to 96.1 (well above the 94.6 preliminary print) just shy of 2015 highs (which are also the highest since 2004). The spike is driven by a surge in "Current Conditions" as hope for the future rose only modestly as inflation expectations dropped. However, notably fewer people see now as a good time to buy a house. We assume UMich survey respondents are "invested" in stocks since higher gas prices and lower affordability in housing seemed to weigh Gallup's economic confidence down to its lowest since 2014.

"We're loving it!!"

Unemployment rocks!!!

Of course the consumers are confident. That's what makes them mindless consumers.

These numbers, however, are of course less-than-worthless lies.

Up next, the confederate flag.

survey respondents...i doubt these are real.

care to let the public know their contact information, so we can confirm their "optimism".  why not?

quick question...if these polls were found out to be rigged, would these guys go to jail for fraud with intent to manipulate markets or a petty fine would do?

I'm sure the Con-gress critters confidence is now at all time highs now that they screwed America once again with nary a whimper from We the People. Boner alone made over 5 million for his act of treason.

These thieves are by far out classing Judas who only got a mere 30 pieces of silver for his treason.... Only difference is Judas had a conscience. He returned the silver and hung himself.

Judas was scorned through history for his treason while we dutifully re-elect our batch of treasonous crooks, over and over  and over and over and...

The dangerous aspect of this surreality is that when an event does arrive, there will be little warning.   And it cascades from there to policy meltdown -- economically, socially and perhaps militarily.    A cornered rabid animal in other words.

Surging consumer confidence? Really? 51% of Americans are in very poor financial shape.

According to a recent survey, 29% of Americans have NO emergency savings. Another 22% could get by for less than 3 months on their savings.

Maybe their confidence comes from the fact they can STILL BUY a new car or a house with next to nothing down.

Debt increases confidence? Maybe in the new Amerika - for a few more months.
