janus has mixed feelings concerning the posting of the following ephemera.  on the one hand, i fully understand that its substance will yield a few positive votes (in that it's a quasi-political polemic) -- be that as it may, i'm going ahead with it anyway, insofar as a certain and prominent part of me likes to please; but then that part of me, the people-pleaser, is by another part of my being confronted with a stunting question: 'who(m) is it that you're pleasing, and what manner of person is this that's voting up or down; and for what reason are they mouse-clicking you into obeisance?'  that's the nature of anonymous democracy -- it reduces textured argument to sound-bytes and the aggregation of grunting automatons; politics is tptb's attempt to interpret the sway in the herd's inflection, decode the nature of whatever animating flavor is spiriting the aggregate grunts and, ultimately, what direction it's fluxing; power is conducting the orientation of their grunts. .the flux and its flow.  influence is power, influence is at the tippy top.

and so i will do my dead-level best to balance the competing concerns -- to on the one hand produce something of merit (which typically pisses-off or offends a good portion of those who bother to read); and on the other hand issue something that is on balance pleasing.

it is fitting that the following be prefaced with its politically-charged enticement...the following contains references to homo-marriage and this recent supreme court decision, will in all likelihood offend several and sundry 'minorities' (even though janus is the real minority...i think i'm gonna start a pity-parade in provincetown, cape cod....more on my pity-party-parade later) and may result in wounded feelings and guilty chuckles.

okay, before i peck this polemic out for all the interwebs to see, i want to first share a song i scooped up while passing through orleans, cape cod, scrolling through the radio tuner, not expecting anything special...and then, all of a sudden, there it appeared, as is from the ether -- something very special -- and janus was keen enough to know it when he felt its presence.  that's the nature of the extraordinary, it comes when you least expect it.  whilst it plays i want to smoke a cig and figure out how best to condense this piece into an optimally palatable form: (awesome gem from like 34 years ago...this song got itself wedged deep in janus' head...and there it remains):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixTXmKauL8A

look, faggots, janus didn't want to piss on your prissy-panty parade.  i drove all the way up to p-town, the mecca of flamboyance par-excelance, expecting to uber you flamers up and down from truro beach to commercial street, anticipating that you were all wet in the britches and hyper-jubilant now that the supreme court had finally validated your love...even though you did this for yourselves long ago -- and there is supposedly for you some satisfaction in the acknowledgement of your love by each and every other the world over?

you know what i'm thinking?...janus suspects that faggots are nostalgic for the days when being a faggot meant something.  now that it's normalized and homogenized within the oleo of amorican, it's becomming rather passe...and faggots, always on the vanguard of trends and whatnot, are sensing that we are indeed entering the winter of queerdom's kitsch.  let me tell you ZHealots the truth, p-town (queerdom's activism nexus) was as listless as a unitarian pot-luck in feburary last night.

the weather was perfect -- 72, balmy -- the air still and free...and a herd of lusty faggots whom you'd reckon would be caterwauling and cartwheeling to and fro were just moping around, wishing they were still queer, weird, out-casts/outsiders and sneaky.  now you all have toddlers and bedtimes; congrats on your normality.

but, like i was saying, i don't begrudge the faggot a goddam thing when it comes to marriage in amorica; hell, more than most of them end in divorce anyway...and so, faggots, let janus welcome you to our miasma, our institution of marriage...i hope you know what you've gotten yourselves into:

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gin7s5qMG8

along those lines, i believe i've finally learned my lesson.  every soul demands its pound of flesh...the world is, in point of fact, one gigantic flesh-trade...all mortals groping about devouring and consuming in the assumption that they can overcome the most inevitable aspect of their existence.  i give things like this considerable thought.

i am ever and always looking for signals from my experience and, most espeically, from the observation of nature's patterns...there is a truth in life's pursuits outside the gates of eden.

and so it was that i was just the other day observing nature from my balcony.  from my right side there flew a dove.  i softened, thinking this a sign of gentle dominion and such.  and as this dove settled somewhere over to my left, cooing and waddling about, right at the breach of high-tide, i returned my attention to this osprey spirialing in the sky that i'd been previously eyeing.

this particular osprey and janus go way back.  he lives on a point at the crest of our bay; i've named him captain nelson (cause he has a keen eye for the sea), and he's the most efficient hunter i've ever witnessed.  i am quite literally enthrall with captain nelson's prowess with his prey.

anyway, at the very moment i returned my gaze to the circling osprey -- captain nelson -- he slipped into his graceful and freakishly fast dive from a hundred feet above, straight down onto something scaly that's about to get its flesh griped with  ten fierce talons.  it's quite a sight to behold.

captain nelson will by summer's end be training his new brood on the ways of flying and hunting.  it mists janus' eye to watch the cycle renew.

nevertheless, about the time our osprey had lifted his fish from the sea (which is an incredible feat to witness...totally submerged, and then thrusts itself up and out into the air just as fast as it'd dipped in), i heard that dove chortle and flap in distress over to my left.

after walking over to the ledge of my balcony i noticed that my wicked little kitty cat had sliced that dove acrost its chest.  Soren Kierkegaard (my wicked kitty) sat there mercilessly observing his prey as it suffered.  as the superior among the three species, i trotted down-stairs, thumped Soren on his noggin and tsk-tsked him thoroughly, and then wrung the dove's neck and tossed both of its dead and bleeding parts back into the sea.

nothing about any of these events was particularly satisfactory, they just happened...and now i've got to make sense of them all...gay marriage...a listless lot of faggots shuffling through p-town...a dead dove...a wicked kitty...and how all of this relates to janus.

is what is inevitable 'moral'?  is what is 'moral' inevetiable? and what is the nature of morality's progress?  can the advance of time and its consequent events be conflated with the notion of morality's evolution?  is the advance of time to be confused with the notion of progress simply because there is an accumulation of time and human experience?  in the last century, we've endure two wars that 'progress' should've rendered irrational bloodbaths before they began...but they happened -- and anothern's coming with a quickness.

it is in this spirit of time's inertia and what all is within it subsequent that i want to thank and congratulate queerdom.  i have always been a closet polygamist.  there, i said it.  yes, it is agonizingly true, i've kept my private self hidden for so long...and have, for the better part of my life, since reading the story of King David, longed to be loud, proud and extravagant in my lifestyle.  i've decided to model myself as something of a pioneer in the world of polygamy.  look, don't come at me with that mormon shit...this is sexual rapaciousness, and i am in no way ashamed.

i'm not joking.  i feel janus deserves more than just one beautiful woman.  the signals i receive from endless experience are unambiguous on this matter....and so it is that i yield to inevitability and the necessity of polygamy and the inertia of morality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUBxLRN88fE

i will close this polemic by recalling to anyone who remember's attention the wicked little kitty that snuck into my cab at the end of my final shift; and as was for 'janus the hackney' his last fare...ever.  i wrote then that this chic was extraordinarily special.  think whatever you will, but i feel rather certain of that wicked little kitty's identity.  and i cannot shake her from my mind.  i confess, it is something of an infection polluting my affections and conscious attention...but a good one, as regards inevitability and whatnot.  hell, i haven't even slept with my wife since meeting her...and these last two weeks makes for my longest stretch without sex since basic training.

and now we bring this back full circle to the flesh-trade.  i'm going to have to say that i actively want that wicked kitty for my very own little pet.  she's the kind of thing you earn when living out a vision-quest.  obviously, i have already started planning my pity-party-parade in p-town, so that the whole world can celebrate our love and validate my private self...janus and captain nelson understand the world in our own way -- and we don't really seek approval from anyone, least of all our scaly prey -- his from the sea, mine in DC.

see ya soon, wicked lil kitty:

Re-posting as I sharpen my pencil...

Speaking of trade agreements, a thought dawned on me. Remember the scandal of how it was revealed to be legal for congress to insider trade? After this was made public,  Sen. Scott Brown introduced the Stock Act which made it Illegal for that practice to happen, which was enacted but gutted by congress shortly thereafter.

With these trade deals being done in secret, I wonder how many members of Congress are, or are about to, make millions on the information contained therein?

That should piss some folks off.

Insider Trading - House Rules

When it comes to reforming the Congressional exemption from insider trading rules, lawmakers get a gentleman's F minus.  Broadcast April 23.

Stock Act Failure From Congress And Obama

Columbia Journalism Review has the full story...

On Monday, President Obama quietly signed a bill repealing the major provisions of the much-touted ethics law known as the STOCK Act.

Passed in 2012 after a 60 Minutes report on insider trading practices in Congress, the STOCK Act banned members of Congress and senior executive and legislative branch officials from trading based on government knowledge. To give the ban teeth, the law directed that many of these officials’ financial disclosure forms be posted online and their contents placed into public databases. However, in March a report ordered by Congress found that airing this information on the Internet could put public servants and national security at risk. The report urged that the database, and the public disclosure for everyone but members of Congress and the highest-ranking executive branch officials—measures that had never been implemented—be thrown out.

The government sprang into action: last week, both chambers of Congress unanimously agreed to adopt the report’s recommendations. Days later, Obama signed the changes into law.  The meager coverage was a striking counterpoint to the waves of media attention that accompanied enactment of the STOCK Act in April 2012—310 articles in the two weeks surrounding its passage, according to a search of Lexis Nexis. Just as striking is that none of the reports on the partial repeal consulted experts who could answer the question at hand: did the disclosure rules in fact threaten individual or national security?
