Ignoring Tsipras Plea For Calm, Greeks Storm ATMs, Stores, Gas Stations

Tyler Durden's picture

Just a few hours ago Greek PM Tsipras addressed his nation imploring then to "remain calm" and reassuring them that their "deposits were safe." It appears the Greeks did not believe him. Many were wondering where the Greek bank lines were for the past several months. Turns out the local depositors were merely waiting until just after the last minute to withdraw their funds... horde gas... and stack food. Greece, it appears is Venezuela - the new socialist paradise.

Tsipras implored: "Keep Calm...."

They did not listen...

Call that an ATM line...

Now THIS is an ATM line...

Even at the airports...

And gas stations are overwhelmed...

As grocery stores and general appliance stores come under seige...

We have seen this before - in Russia recently as the Ruble collapsed and citizens spent any and every piece of currency they had on 'assets'.

The great news for Greece is that GDP for Q2 will be sent soaring.

Simply put - it's all about inflation expectations. And unlike The Fed or The BoJ, who keep trying to jawbone higher expectations into their citizens' minds, the Greek government may have achieved it implicitly through devaluation expectations and with it - a spending spree before things get more expensive and implicitly a surge in GDP. Of course, however, the spending surge can only be short-term and will stop as soon as there are no more euros to spend.

Don't worry George, you're just facing the stereotype brainless Austrian response.

Don't forget that more than half of the people you are discussing here are clinically sociopaths, and Rand/Mises enable them to justify their sociopathy. It is the economic doctrine of the psychologically sick...

At this point the Greeks are so pissed off, I'll bet they reject the EU/Troika proposal  next weekend by an overwhelming majority.

Huge disruptions in lifestyle like these generally bring communities closer together after the "riff~raff trouble makers gets sorted out.

I did not have a Business in 2008 and really don't have much family need for cash. Today I find I have lots of Repair to Land and Building due to poor inspection before Buying. This is a time where adults need cash or at least spend from bank accounts.

We know that cash is so far crucial to:

- Illegal Activity, Crime, Chop Shops, Pawning goods (what is another term for that? Fencing is better)

- Construction Labor, Agriculture Labor, Landscaping Labor, Hotel Labor, Restaurant Labor

- Any place where retail can hire people without English speaking skills can be Game, like Massage, Therapeutic Techniques, Escort Services, Hair Styling, Nail Styling, Pedicure, Colonics, Pearl Cream, Skin Repair through Herbal Remedies...

People will spend on anything in the USA... this is Wealth Extraction ignored by the FTC, but is most profitable in TBTF Banks, and Extracting Wealth From the Federal Government Budget.

"Greece, it appears is Venezuela - the new socialist paradise."

Yeah, Tyler, did you think it would look anything different?

As you have so well explained, Greece for better or for worse has been plunged into a revolutionary crisis, with a leadership and people that were hoping to avoid it right up to the last minute, and now it's going to be hard and ugly and they are going to have to do lots of things Milton Friedman wouldn't like to defend their country from the international banksters and ECB, the CIA, Mossad and MI-6, NATO, the EU and CNN. And maybe their own General Staff working with Golden Dawn.

So now are you going to make fun of them because it's hard, painful and chaotic? Because they have to make hard decisions with unwanted consequences?  Did ANYONE say there would be a "socialist paradise" after Grexit?

You are one strange dude, Tyler. MPD I suspect. When the barricades go up you will be the first to alert us it's coming and explain why, but I have to wonder which side of them you'll be on.

I think that the biggest prep is being mentally prepared, so that when it does hit, you won't freeze up and not know what to do.  Knowledge is going to be every bit as important as physical goods as well.  Start digging around to see how people from the stone age all the way up through modern times did various things.  Just assume that we won't be able to rely on diesel powered equipment to move large things.  Assume that we won't have steel mills producing high quality steel for things like knives.  If you ran out of ammo, how would you make your own weapon with the materials in your area?  (A bow is a good weapon.  Learn about growing and retting flax to make linen bow strings.)

I don't know about Watson, but this woman goes into detail about a military AI being used with the Jade Helm exercises that is apparently much larger than anyone wants to contemplate. A lot of it is over my head, but maybe someone out there can verify/explain it better.

"J.D." goes deep into the technological end; the weaponization of the Internet, the use of quantum computing and how what we're dealing with is a massive artificial intelligence program (AI) - most likely, an upgrade to one already being used - that makes the Snowden revelations seem like a nursery school rhyme, in their flatness.

We're talking about mapping mass consciousness and controlling it, on a global scale. This is not a joke. "J.D." explains it very well. Others, like Max Keiser will tell you that those who have access to this massive data-mining have been using it to front-run the stock and bond markets."

What are you going to barter?

Worthless Euros?

ZH reports that the ECB has NEGATIVE EQUITY.

From http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-06-28/why-ecb-suddenly-has-huge-headache-its-hands-one-chart

It would also mean that as that €126 billion or so of total ECB/Eurosystem claims on Greek banks were "charged off" in case of a terminal Greek "event" then the entire ECB capital buffer would also be wiped out, leaving the ECB with negative equity.

THAT MEANS THAT THE EUROPEAN CENTRAL BANK IS FUCKING INSOLVENT. YOUR CURRENCY IS DEAD. YOU ARE TOO DAMNED STUPID TO UNDERSTAND IT. YOU STILL VALUE THINGS USING A WORTHLESS AND VALUELESS CURRENCY...

THAT IS GOING TO CHANGE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE...about September is my prognostication. Martin Armstrong is right.

Negative equity in a Central Bank is irrelevant. A central bank is a sovereign entity that issues its own fiat. Negaive Equity only matters if the currency is dissolved. In this case, there will be no scraps to distribute to individual countries if the Euro is demonetized if/when the EU breaks up - but someone will still grab the ECB's gold.

The SYSTEM is INSOLVENT. The Member Banks are INSOLVENT.

Besides the ECB is not as free to print as you may think. They do have to pass referendums in order to do so.

Then there is that nasty POLITICAL FALLOUT suffered by the Ruling Parties in the Sovereign Nation Members...especially the ones that vote for a DEVALUATION of the Common Currency.

The ECB is NOT like the Federal Reserve in that regard..

The tsunami is coming. That's the fact no matter how much denied. Greeks realized that and now are acting rationally and reasonably, appropriately for the situation. Greece was insolvent, is insolvent and would be insolvent if this psychosis of denial continued. Like Greeks we all need to come back to reality of massive collapse of economy, culture and politics, a realization that will unite us in all the misery we suffered , suffer or will be suffering together as inevitable consequence of global theft and destruction of human productive capabilities by barbaric world banking elites.

When will we snap out of torpor and say no to banksters?

Yes you can. The depositor money, which is a loan to the bank, is turned into shares in the bank. :-) The debt the bank owes drops and you become a shareholder.

I am trying to sort out any problems before they happen.

I assume that money is going to really tight over hte next few months ,if not years. All my debtors pay directly into my bank account with most paying at hte 30 mark with some dribbling out to 2 months , nothing older.

The staff are paid (20 of them) fortnightly $20,000 and I run with an overdraft of $30000.the rest of the expenses are fuel and lease expenses and profiit.

No cash is invloved all work is invoiced.

So here is hte Q , if hte O/D is with drawn(credit is tightened) , staff still need to paid. How do I continue to operate in circumstances where the credit has been tighted to such a degree that my OD is withdrwawn.

Sensible answers please.

Some would say to open a line of credit before you need it. if the employees trust you sometimes they will accept promissory notes

Push your payroll out one day later per month until you are three weeks behind. Do this with plenty of advance notice to your employees. People seem to be able to stretch it for one day per month.  Doing it one day per month gives them more than half a year to make the transition. This should help with cash flow when the credit turns down. Change your own company's terms to be fewer days than they are. So if you give terms of Net 45 change them to Net 30. If they are Net 30 change them to be Net 21.  Give your customers advance notice and phase it in over the same six month period.  Be really aggressive in collecting any outstanding A&R.  Take any profits you have and put them toward closing down the overdraft (credit line?)  Otherwise, start hoarding any profit as cash outside of the banking systemj so that when the banker calls the note or decreases your credit line you'll be albe to suddenly show up and pay it down to the required limit.

Something else that might be of value which you should probably read BEFORE the inevitable hyperinflation gets here.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Survival-Strategies-Hyperinflation-Manufacturing-H...">Business Survival Strategies in a Hyperinflation Environment</a>  There used to be another short pamplet on running a business in an Hyperinflationary environment available from Amazon but it seems to have disappeared since 2008.

Run it as a cash business and your employees can quit or wait 2 weeks (or whatever the timeline is) to be paid. Most will work until they are paid because there won't be any other work out there. Also, pay them when you get the funds available, don't jerk them around. Show them the receipts and gain their trust. Just my .02$

Increase the O/D and hope for the best and stay out of debt as much as possible.  Cut back on all your expenses as much as you can - tighten the belt.  Be honest and upfront with all employees all the time.  They are facing the same as you are, so keep that in mind.  Be reconciled to Jesus Christ first and foremost; for through Him all things are possible..really!

----------------------------

If you can hedge your currency using or converting some of your "profits" and savings into a more stable currency; that would help offset inflationary pressures.  Precious metals can do the same function...sovereign coins and bars only...no generic.  Get a good financial adviser (non-conventional) that can address your specific needs - my disclaimer.LOL

Greece gave us Western civilization. It was a good idea, and we had a good run. But it has run it's course.

Now Greece can show us all the way home, a home we left for an open road of adventure, exploration and profit. Show us a way back to honest dealings, transparency, and community. A way out of this fetid, obscene Capitalism and back to a world made through honest work, where men labored hard but as brothers, on things that matter, real things that fed and clothed and housed. Back to when money meant open exchange in a free market not this bastardized market in fictional money-like things of no intrinsic value.

They started this, 3,000 years ago they started it. It was kinda nice, I liked what they came up with. Killed some kings anyway. I could have done without modern warfare but let by-gones be by-gones. I'm willing to let them end it now and show us another way.

Those Greeks, they have a pretty good track record, right? I say give them a little push and see what they come up with for the next 3,000 years.

Sorry but your analyses lacks any depth; the Turks came rather late. The current Hellenic population is Greek with an admixture of Latin, Gaul, Slav, Frank, Norman, English, German, Swede (Varangian Guard), Venetian, Genovese etc.

Through the Orthodox church, literature, language and Race they have maintained a distinct type, kept the barbarian out of Europe for 1,000 years after the fall of Rome and transmitted the first rational thoughts of European man to us. The Greek gave us intellectual freedom; the Jew gave us religious intolerance

Probably. Pension and salary payments only go directly to bank accounts. Working capital of businesses must be held inside the payment system. Time deposits that cannot be withdrawn. Lazy fuckers who were collecting high interest. Large deposits that can only be whittled down slowly as ATM and cash withdrawals are limited in size. People who want to open accounts in foreign countries, but are stopped by the operational hurdles to doing so. etc...  It is only the fuckers collecting high interest that I have no respect for - whenever a bank pays high interest, there is a reason why.

So somebody who is much more knowledgable about banking explain to me why can't the Greek banks just roll their chair over to their banking computer terminal and punch in a few more billion Euros into the balance sheet.  American banks are currently mark to fantasy.  Most of the money is just 1's and 0's in the computer with only a small percentage being cash.  Let them withdraw all of their money then just punch more money into the system through the keyboard. Vladdy-Poot comes riding into the scene on a white horse and saves Greece from catastrophe.....

Well, actually, it won't happen that way. But mostly in the background Putin's working to leverage the situation to Russia's advantage, and reassuring Greek leaders that Russia won't let them down if Greece crashes out of the Euro.

It is becoming a Russian geopolitical and economic/financial invasion of Europe, starting with Greece. Putin is sending the unmistakable signal to Europe that, unless they back off the economic war against Russia, they will suffer excruciating pain and destruction whenever and however Russia sees fit to make them suffer such.

Putin can work Spain and Portugal next....

Rest assured that, for his unmitigated GALL in confronting Europe and standing up against the warmongers, he and Russia will be demonized and accused of yet another invasion as an expansionist, dangerous power that must be thwarted!!!!

Nevertheless, Russia and China will continue to advance their influence while that of the U.S. and Europe suffer contraction. This is what happens when you stupidly start a war and try to match your checkers-game against Russia's chess-game.

World domination?  As someone said on here, this could all end in 24 hours by dragging a few hundred men out into the streets by the collar of their shirt.  They are bold when the crowds are small.  When gas is unaffordable and we are all trapped into place, they will no longer have to hide.  Surely, there is a pocket of high-level, funded opposition which is planning to drop a cyanide pill into each of their 400.00 bottles of chardonnay at any moment.  If not, then the preference would be to shut the whole operation down and leave the planet to the succumb to Fukishima.  They are capable of anything, even bombing Tetonic plates in strategic locations to finish us off ... oh wait.
