Greek Prime Minister To Address The Nation Shortly

Tyler Durden's picture

There were many open questions following the report that Tsipras has reportedly folded to a Troika program which is no longer even on the table, and what the next steps are. Hopefully we will get some clarity when Tsipras addresses the nation shortly in an unscheduled appearance as Kathimerini reported moments ago. Will he plea with the nation and backtrack cancelling the referendum as some have suggested...

... or will he confirm how "stubborn" the Troikas is and unwilling to budge? Find out in moments.

If he cancels the referendum, when his government agreed to it, then he will have laid down in bed with the rest of the EU bankster bullies. I sincerely hope not

If he doesn't resign, then he announces the Drachma.

Anything else is just foreplay.

On an side -- Ghordo is back, which means Tsipras will cave and the Euro Dream can live to see another day.

"I had a visit from an Economic Hitman. He told me what would happen if we went ahead in our attempt to avoid serfdom.  He offered me the choice of a bribe to pull the deal or assasination / regime change. His name is ???? and here is his picture. Here is a recording of the conversation. Good Luck fellow country-men and women."

Doing what papandreou did would be a real political mistake.

I smell something more like "I have tried and I have failed, so I resign and call for anticipated elections".

No matter the referendum is lost or won, it'll be a pain in the ass to the EU as Syriza is still very popular - so may storm new elections

he's really trying hard to keep to his campaign trail themes but he knows greece is fucked in a grexit and probably understimated the effect of a grexit or euro allowance of a grexit

he certainly tried harder than any typical politician would but ultimately still a politician

only revolutions, not politicians, could actually DO what he campaigned about

Yes, Tsipras should just say "Fuck the EU," while handing out cookies to the many impoverished Greeks, and then turn and take Russia's deal.  Of course, the West would probably then kill him, but hey, that's just the ruff and tumble of a political life, right?  Sometimes it's not about winning or losing, but showing some style while playing the game.  Then Greece could erect a statue to honor 'Tsipras, the Heroic Cookie Man'.  I'd mark it as a win if one can get a notable and memorable statue of himself erected in the veritable sea of historic Greek statuary -- against some serious competition!

Michael Hudson has an interesting analysis of the situation that is far more comprehensive than most (originally posted by Paul Craig Roberts, who is in full agreement with him):

http://www.counterpunch.org/2015/06/29/the-greek-debt-crisis-and-crashin...

He doesn't see this process as a case study in Syriza scamming the Greek public.

My inner voice of cynicism tells me that Hudson is incorrect to claim that the practice of expedient politics by Tsipras will be successful in the end.

The politics of manipulative expediency do not lead to beneficial change,

partly because the power elite are so much better at manipulation,

and partly because of the essentially crass and deceptive nature of the process.

The TROIKA has all along seen instead that delay is to their advantage.

It is problematic for Tsipras to now make a 180 dgree turn. After pleading for a "deal", and communicating by word and example that an acceptable deal is possible, can Tsipras now claim that he has "failed" to get that deal, and Greece must now accept hardship because of his failure?

We shall never know if Tsipras could have persuaded and convinced Greek citizens that their only real choice was permanent TROIKA bondage or temporary hardship with GREXIT. We shall never know whether he could have had a successful referendum if taken earlier. (Failing earlier, he could have resigned, let others "negotiate", and perhaps made a political comeback.)

I don't think Tsipras necessarily deliberately "scammed" the Greek public. It will likely mostly be a  greater belief in manipulative expedient politics over a belief in the common sense of Greek citizens.

I believe Tsipras has already effectively folded, and the referendum, if held, will be a confused vote, conveniently interpreted by the TROIKA to the TROIKA's advantage.

Many here at ZH seem to share similar sentiments, as they disparage the Greeks and others everywhere for being too fat, lazy, and dependent to ever understand the need or ever do the right thing, even for themselves.

He discovered Washington and Brussels flagged him as a 'suspected' terrorist and there were reports of drone sightings in Greece.

Apparently the drones were looking for him and the finance minister, but because there are no pilots, they couldn't land and ask for directions.  They will pop a few innocents first before they find them.

If Greece really and truly defaults on their loans, the derivative markets are going to have gyrations that will make 2008 look tame by comparison. Therefore the central bankers are going to apply every form of pressure they have to make Greece stay in line. As of now they are pulling out their biggest sticks, and applying them mercilessly in the hopes of breaking the will of the Grecian leadership.

Interesting how this is all playing out, with the troika increasingly resorting to bigger and bigger sticks while steadfastly refusing to offer any carrots. I'm quite sure that is because once any debt-relief carrots are offered to Greece suddenly every other member of the E.U. would instantly pipe up and want some as well. So, in the almighty name of eternal debt service at any and all costs forevermore, we get to watch the hideous spectacle of banksters and their technocratic puppets in Brussels stomping their financial boots on the face of the Grecian people, over and over again, forever.

As the debts become increasingly unpayable, the banksters are going to become increasingly vicious, and the people are going to become more and more distressed. If they're trying to start a revolution, they're doing a damn fine job. However, it seems more likely that they're simply motivated by both unchecked greed and naked fear, two emotions guaranteed to bring out the very best in people.

Say, whatever happened to that "illegal, illegitimate, and odious" statement regarding their debt, is that still even in play? Why is it we only hear about the almighty debt that Greece owes, and nothing whatsoever regarding that whole "illegal, illegitmate, and odious" deal? Oh, right, we hear the bankster's side 100 times for every 1 time we hear the side of their victims, er, debtors; funny how that works.

Yup, presstitutes of the Western nations are unanimous in the same odious narrative.  Of course, the banksters and related organizations control all those "news" institutions . . .

They can't have the people recognize this new world "order" for what it is: World War by financial means, banksters and buddies against humanity.

Nice move. Accept troika's demands in a non-existant offer. Let the population know exactly what will happen with a yes vote. More debt, more austarity and no hope for the future. This is the best deal we can get from our debt masters.

A no vote on the otherhand means........... but at least some hope.
