US Police More Concerned About "Anti-Government" Domestic Extremists Than Al-Qaeda, Study Finds

U.S. law enforcement agencies rank the threat of violence from anti-government  extremists higher than the threat from radicalized Muslims, according to a report released Thursday by the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security (TCTHS).

The report, “Law Enforcement Assessment of the Violent Extremism Threat,” was based on survey research by Charles Kurzman, professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and David Schanzer, director of TCTHS and associate professor of the practice at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.

The survey — conducted by the center with the Police Executive Research Forum — found that 74 percent of 382 law enforcement agencies rated anti-government extremism as one of the top three terrorist threats in their jurisdiction. By comparison, 39 percent listed extremism connected with Al Qaeda or like-minded terrorist organizations as a Top 3 terrorist threat.

– From Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy

Since September 11, 2001, the frightened and emotionally pliable American public has gullibly relinquished its civil liberties and free heritage in order to allow the U.S. government to wage unaccountable and unconstitutional war again Al-Qaeda and radical Islamic terrorism across the world.

Many of us have warned for years, that preemptively giving up freedoms to protect freedom could only make sense to a propagandized, ignorant public completely clueless of human history. We warned that any totalitarian apparatus implemented to fight an outside enemy, would ultimately be turned around and used upon the public domestically. We already know this is happening with the NSA’s bulk spying and data collection, and we are starting to see a proliferation of the meme that “domestic extremists are more dangerous than Al-Qaeda,” spreading from the mouths of a corrupt and paranoid political class. I’ve covered this topic on several occasions, for example:

The “War on Terror” Turns Inward – DHS Report Warns of Right Wing Terror Threat

Eric Holder Announces Task Force to Focus on “Domestic Terrorists”

Rep. Steve Cohen Calls Tea Party Republicans “Domestic Enemies” on MSNBC

New Hampshire City Requests a Tank to Deal with “Domestic Terrorist” Groups Like Occupy Wall Street and Libertarians

It’s Official: The FBI Classifies Peaceful American Protestors as “Terrorists”

If all that’s not enough to convince you we’ve got a problem, I bring to you conclusions from the recently released study, “Law Enforcement Assessment of the Violent Extremism Threat.” This study was based on a survey conducted by Charles Kurzman and David Schanzer, who recently penned an op-ed in the New York Times. Here are some excerpts from their article:

In a survey we conducted with the Police Executive Research Forum last year of 382 law enforcement agencies, 74 percent reported anti-government extremism as one of the top three terrorist threats in their jurisdiction; 39 percent listed extremism connected with Al Qaeda or like-minded terrorist organizations. And only 3 percent identified the threat from Muslim extremists as severe, compared with 7 percent for anti-government and other forms of extremism.

The self-proclaimed Islamic State’s efforts to radicalize American Muslims, which began just after the survey ended, may have increased threat perceptions somewhat, but not by much, as we found in follow-up interviews over the past year with counterterrorism specialists at 19 law enforcement agencies. These officers, selected from urban and rural areas around the country, said that radicalization from the Middle East was a concern, but not as dangerous as radicalization among right-wing extremists.

Law enforcement agencies around the country are training their officers to recognize signs of anti-government extremism and to exercise caution during routine traffic stops, criminal investigations and other interactions with potential extremists. “The threat is real,” says the handout from one training program sponsored by the Department of Justice. Since 2000, the handout notes, 25 law enforcement officers have been killed by right-wing extremists, who share a “fear that government will confiscate firearms” and a “belief in the approaching collapse of government and the economy.”

Meanwhile, terrorism of all forms has accounted for a tiny proportion of violence in America. There have been more than 215,000 murders in the United States since 9/11. For every person killed by Muslim extremists, there have been 4,300 homicides from other threats.

Perhaps if the police didn’t harbor such negative thoughts about the general public, there wouldn’t be as many citizens killed by police. The recent tally is up to 463 killed so far in 2015, or an average of 2.5 Americans killed by police every day.

Finally, I came across the following excerpt from a recently published National Journal article:

Senate Democrats are calling for Congress to shift its focus from solely jihadist-fueled terrorism and hold hearings on the threats from domestic groups in upcoming weeks. And the Department of Justice has already opened up a domestic-terrorism investigation into the Charleston church shooting.

The real enemy of the corrupt corporate state is none other than, “we the people.”

I find the timing of the arrival of this "study" more than a little suspicious.

It blends just a little too well with the AMERICAN WHITE MAN BAD meme.

Frankly, all of the police I know are most concerned about the increasingly violent and uncontrolled black dindu population.

But, dat be rayciss, so you can't publish that study. let alone secure a USGOV grant to pay for the effort.

No shit.
Listen to any cop. In their conversation, they will use the term " civilian" to describe the citizenry.
That's the problem. They view themselves as a Special Class, of heroes no less, who are above the law. I know a few, they all think this way.

How is it illeagal and unsafe for me to drive 75 mph and or use a cellphone. But a 25 yo cop, with special training and superhuman powers , can drive everywhere at 90 mph, using a cellphone and a Cray Supercomputer mounted to the console? In my low crime area, there are 5 police agencies that prowl the highways, making them safer. It is not unusual to see 4 or 5 individual cops with vehicles pulled over at the same time. Revenue Enhancement.

That's because your low crime area is a much better source of revenue-extraction and potential civil-asset theft....errrr....foreiture. Plus your area has law-abiding people who will not resist the tyranny. The rough, high-crime areas.....well, they're just too dangerous for our brave, costume-badged heroes to risk their noble selves. It's the same here in central VA. Cop cruisers all over the damn place......protecting and serving us against those vile traffic-infractioning terrawrists, and totally keeping those extremist late-registration-fee payers from harming da chilrenz.

Basically.....a long winded way of saying: cops are NOT here to protect and serve YOU.

First they have to infil agents into the midst of targeted groups.  Then the agents need to find a few followers and begin agitating.  Once enough organization work has been done a plot can be hatched and either brought to fruition (false flag) or interdicted (see, .gov spying keeps you safe chitlins).

By the sounds of things, expect a false flag followed by several interdictions and then sweeping laws and finally a kristalnacht.

They're already here, friend. There have been more than enough leaks to support that HBGary Federal, GCHQ, etc have been sockpuppeting the hell out of forums like this one. So when you read a racist comment, for example, ask youself is it really an anti-semite or is it someone trying the make the place look bad, or trying to identify others that agree? And when it's an anti-government rant that suggests killing a particular politician... is it someone who's pissed off or someone building a case for a search warrant?

The rabbit hole is pretty fucking deep these days.

Somehow they miss all the parts where they say, "Kill every infidel after we subvert and overrun the US." Harvard contractors just can't find that stuff. In fact, Muslims are our bosom buddies and we should swap spit with them.

But they tune in on an internet exchange for an hour, or a wise and perceptive informer listens to some talk over some brewskis at a picnic and reports back and it's like child's play to trace the thinking back to Himmler or fucking Robespierre and detect a plot to build machine guns in the basement and take over Kansas.

It;s been a long road down all around. It takes 3 generations to redefine a culture.

That is it.

Think 150 years of indoctrination.

Think seacurd socities and their words of power. Think of the Grateful dead as a CIA, LSD dealing front.

All baby-boomers should really know this, so that the genesis of law-less-ness is clear.

They (them, the eternal others) made the flower power generation bloom and then WILT HARD.

Now they're rich, seemingly secure and very afraid....

Well this does make sense.  There is no threat to US cops from Al Qaeda.  Strictly speaking, in the way most people think of Al Qaeda, there's no such thing at all.  But US cops, being very much a part of the US government, are indeed at risk from Americans.  Heck, Americans are trying to legalize or at least decriminalize marijuana.  That right there would severely defund the police in several ways.  That's a threat.  All the people jabbering about taking on The Man are probably no threat, but if the general vibe of society gets more anti-social, there will be fewer and fewer apathetic and compliant people to help the cops by their passivity, and more and more apathetic and resistant people to get in the cops' way.

Honestly it would seem as though violent and racist cops who are prone to illegal activities and criminal violence tend to cluster in areas populated by people who are least able and/or willing to fight back - disarmed and dependant/despondent minorities in urban environments.

It would seem that they have gotten tired of that game and want to take their game to the next level.  This is where local cops can make a difference by simply doing their jobs properly in the context of the oath they have sworn.  The trend line is not encouraging.

I think that you got part of it, that the people here are probably more likely to target cops than AQ or ISIS.  OTOH, there is another dimension that this is kind of a self fufilling prophecy.  I don't think that most cops are bad people, but I do think that most are terrible cops who are either delusional or are incapable of evaluating just how their actions have unintended consequences.  The thin blue line, for example, will be a justification to punish all cops as a group if things get bad enough, regardless of if an individual cop stepped up to stop abuse, simply turned the other way, or was the abuser.  If they bounce enough heads off of the pavement because they are paranoid of a terrorist under every rock, and they might just create a domestic terrorist or two who has a hard on for cops.

Here is one thing that I think that people on ZH should chew on for a bit:  If things get dicey, but not quite SHTF, cops have friends and relatives in your communities.  If you target the cops, you will make some non-police enemies.  You don't target somebody's son or father or husband, and expect them to have the attitude of "Oh, my son was an asshole, you're cool."  Always keep the unintended consequences of your actions in mind.

The ADL has been training law enforcement, including the FBI for DECADES, always pushing the "WHITES ARE THE EVIL THREAT" meme.

The threat, my fellow ZHers, is to the White people, the founders of America. The street violence is just a part but it goes unpunished. Yet a teenager drove by a rally for the "JENNA SIX" the 6 thugs who put a White student into the hospital, btw rock star David Bowie contributed generously to the blacks legal defense. And a Jewish Ivy league professor feted one of the attackers at his New England home. Rewards you see for good work. Well the teen drove his pickup truck by the rally for the 6 thugs and had a Rebel Flag and a noose. Drove by, didn't say a word. A Chinese US District Attorney and a Latino ADA nailed him on HATE CRIME charges. He is still serving a ten year sentence in Federal prison. Just a single example.

The ADL was the MAIN FORCE behind the Federal THOUGHT CRIME law passed in 2009, which Eric Holder in testimony before Congress said did not protect Whites. It was called the Matthew SHepard Act.

"Matthew Shepard case, where we now find out that Shepard was a meth addict who was murdered as part of a drug heist; one of his murderers had a homosexual and drug-dealing relationship with Shepard. But that has made no difference to the narrative put out by the Matthew Shepard Foundation or the mainstream media, and the author of book with these revelations now finds himself besieged by hostility despite being gay, Latino, and politically liberal. "

Just watch out for your children on the mean streets of the USSA where the race war is heating up. It is an ODD war, with the one side, the White side, not fighting.

Car Bombs Discovered in Juarez South of US Border

Police in Juarez made an alarming discovery when they found two car bombs inside a vehicle on the city’s south side.

The explosives, known as ANFO were packed with substances like ammonium nitrate.

Police say the bombs were found inside a red volkswagon before they could be detonated.

19 year-old Jesús David Aguilera Molina, 17-year-old Carlos Jesús, and 19-year-old Daniel Aguilera Juárez were arrested.

Police say the three men and a woman who has not yet been identified were also carrying marijuana and other weapons.

Mexican officials in April claimed they located an ISIS camp just eight miles south of the U.S. border.

Isn't ANFO pretty much another word for ammonium nitrate, "not a substance like ammonium nitrate"?

Doublechecked, it is.

ANFO (or AN/FO, for ammonium nitrate/fuel oil) is a widely used bulk industrial explosive mixture. It consists of 94% porous prilled ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) (AN) that acts as the oxidizing agent and absorbent for the fuel and 6% number 2 fuel oil (FO).

Technically, it's dried bullshit and diesel.  You see ammonium nitrate under the sludge when you're clearing the lot.

Thu, 07/02/2015 - 03:50 | 6261261 Colonel Klink
Colonel Klink's picture

ANFO isn't powerful like a high explosive, say C4.  What it is good at is being a "working load".  One is good at open destruction, say blowing up an open area.  C4 would be good for that, but not for moving a mountainside.  ANFO is good for things like mining, or moving large heavy objects where the explosive charge is contained within something.

From wiki:

ANFO under most conditions is blasting cap-insensitive, so it is classified as a blasting agent[6] and not a high explosive;[7] it decomposes through detonation rather than deflagration with a moderate velocity of about 3,200 m/s in 5-in diameter, unconfined, at ambient temperature. It is a tertiary explosive consisting of distinct fuel and oxidizer phases, and requires confinement for efficient detonation and brisance.

Because it is cap-insensitive, it generally requires a primer,[8] also known as a booster (e.g., one or two sticks of dynamite is historically used, or in more recent times Tovex or cast boosters of pentolite (TNT)/PETN or similar compositions) to ensure continuation of the detonation wave-train.

"We warned that any totalitarian apparatus implemented to fight an outside enemy, would ultimately be turned around and used upon the public domestically. We already know this is happening with the NSA’s bulk spying and data collection..."

Arguably, this whole anti-terror apparatus that's been created in the US, UK and elsewhere since 9/11 was only ever about turning these countries into totalitarian police states. Initially aiming it at external threats like al Qaeda was just an interim step in the ultimate objective.

Nobody would have believed it in Sep/2001, today it should be obvious to anyone not in blind denial. The NSA, Dept of Fatherland Security, militarisation of the police and other alphabet agencies of The State together with countless other laws/regulations on Patriot Act, FATCA and Freedom Act  etc are all irrefutable evidence of gathering totalitarianism where The State intends to control and monitor every citizen to enforce its policies. Dissent will not be allowed.

The West has entered a new Dark Ages and it will take some very serious revolutions to bring it to an end and restore sanity. A lot of blood will get spilled before government is held to account.

Well, you have to be halfway literate to worry about Al-Queda (erg, I had to just double check the spelling).  You have to know something about other cultures.  Maybe learn a foreign language!!!  Be able to distinguishe Hutu from Tutsi (oh, that's the other pair):  Shia from Sunni!  Our domestic law enforcement doesn't want to have to learn that sort of thing; too much work; they'd rather stay focused on the mentally easy stuff.  They are accustomed to pesky regular Americans like those poor schmuck bikers (funny how there has been no media coverage of those nine dead bikers); that's nice 'n easy.  They figure the CIA/FBI can do the mentally tough stuff.  The problem of course is that the actual hideous crimes are committed by e.g. the Russian mafia and others who speak funny languages; very inconvenient.  But they can always just ignore those crimes, unless there is an inconveniently in your face incident like in Boston.

It's an interesting situation they're in. If they try to take the anti-government people off the board they seriously are risking a civil war AND they already have lost the moral high ground. If they don't try to take the pieces off the board, they don't get to play with their toys and the anti-government sentiment grows.

The government regime folks are really in a losing position in my estimations.

As Seneca wrote in De Clementia "Repeated punishment, while it crushes the hatred of a few, stirs the hatred of all . . . just as trees that have been trimmed throw out again countless branches".

If they confirm the fears of the anti-government folks, it's probably going to get really ugly and nasty real quick. i.e. nearly instantly.

If I were them, which would require a complete lack of morality, I'd take my stolen gold and move out of the country. "Git while the gittin's good" as they say. They neither have the troop strength, financial soundness, intelligence in military leadership, unit cohesion, or troop morale for a domestic fight, nor the moral high-ground. They would lose and lose in the eyes of international opinion. They themselves (those really in control) would also risk being tried in the Hague or far worse, for war crimes, then the unpleasantness that would follow after that. The low risk, rational decision would be to leave, and stand-down.

That's my professional, objective analysis. Hopefully they don't try to do something stupid. Because if they do, they're sure to get innocents in the crossfire, and all hell could break loose and this could spiral out of control. The result would likely be less-so Stalin purge, and far more French revolution and they'd be the Louis.

Whatever side you're on, it would suck. Let's not allow that to happen please. We've had enough suffering and death in the last century. Just fucking stop. Enough already. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I think that historically the really ugly stuff happens when disgruntled citizens become miserable enough to solicit the help of the external enemy:  to invite them in, in order to get their assistance (since they don't have enough fellow citizens on their side).  The disgruntled citizens usually end up regretting it, but the impulse to get some sort of external help is just too strong for them to resist; if you stomp on people enough they will act irrationally.

The common approach by totalitarian governments at their initial stage of emergence is to take only the minimal action necessary against dissenters to maintain authority and control, aka the "softly-softly" or "step-by-step" approach. If they exercise too much hard-ball too early, it risks an uprising which could bring the whole edifice down if badly handled. Very risky for the project's success.

This is what we've seen in the US and UK since 9/11. 9/11 itself provided the excuse to kick-start the process of imposing totalitarian government. Every step since is carefully calibrated to avoid scaring the horses.

In the US, the front man for this is currently Obola himself. But it could just as easily be H Clinton or J Bush. Obola's endless anti-gun rhetoric and the growing number of divide & rule incidents (false flags?) are simply there to provide public support for ever more police state control.

Hitler would never have been able to introduce his "Enabling Act" without the Reichstag fire.

My guess is that a poll of people would overwhelmingly find the US government to be a greater danger to its citizens than any terrorist group or any nation state.

That is seemingly how the government wants it. It is a shame that those in government pushing this agenda (most likely they are behind the government pushing on both sides) could not find real, productive and fulfilling work and instead had to become terrorists.

Back in the 60's,we called them "pigs",and spit on them, until they wapped you in the abdomen with their baton, and you went down like a left hook from "Smokey" Joe Frazier..But you always had respect for the man behind the badge, because you knew it was the system you were fighting, not the man who was trying to fight for the system..

DOMESTIC enemies of the Constitution ... AKA the current government and its departments, including the police.

So, maybe they know they have a problem because people have had enough with these politicians (who only rule for themselves)?

it is nice to know the public unrest has unnerved the average cop. being a cop is part of the .gov gravy train of high pay for little work and a millionaires retirement. fear of actually having a dangerous job has discouraged future useless .gov welfare workers from applying for the job. something has been accomplished by the likes of guys like dorner, a real american hero.

In other words, the police, who are murdering innocent people daily, say that the American people are a bigger threat than Al Quida.  The reason is obvious: they control Al Quaida/ISIS/ISIL, but they don't control the public.

Who exactly is this Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security (TCTHS)?  My guess is that it is funded by a grant from DHS and is closely allied with SPLCCharles Kurzman, professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and David Schanzer,
director of TCTHS and associate professor of the practice at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.  Sounds eastern European to me. Khazarian maybe?

Looks like preppen for Jade Helm - likely explains the timing of this survey.

I don't recall seeing any cop shooting statistics supporting the threat from domestic terrorists.

We need to stand down government at all levels and then form local contracts from paying individuals.  Guns, shame, internet and private contracts will be the new government.  No more government coercion or authority.  As Ayn Rand said "All taxes should be voluntary" as in private contracts.

Unfortunately it's going to take a collapse of the dollar to bring down this tyrannical cluster called government.

Then after the "entitled" government dependent sickos die off, will we have an opportunity to start over.

US is slowly being sqeezed out of ME and EU. The gov't is worried about millions of military returning home to find the country completely compromized  by big GOV.  Gov't against its own people as always the way empires extinguish. Secret laws, secret courts, military equipment to " officers of the peace " ,  ya Jade Helm and all that " if you ain't with us your against us " bs. Watch your back.
