17 Year Federal Judge Savages 'War On Drugs': "This Is A War I Saw Destroy Lives... Makes No Sense"

The “war on drugs” is one of the most irrational, idiotic and destructive public policy failures in American history, and that’s saying a lot. I’ve covered this topic many times at Liberty Blitzkrieg, but nothing spells it out like the repentant words of a former federal judge, who admittedly ruined countless lives for no reason.
From the Atlantic:
ASPEN, Colo.—Former Federal Judge Nancy Gertner was appointed to the federal bench by Bill Clinton in 1994. She presided over trials for 17 years. And Sunday, she stood before a crowd at The Aspen Ideas Festival to denounce most punishments that she imposed.
Among 500 sanctions that she handed down, “80 percent I believe were unfair and disproportionate,” she said. “I left the bench in 2011 to join the Harvard faculty to write about those stories––to write about how it came to pass that I was obliged to sentence people to terms that, frankly, made no sense under any philosophy.”
She went on to savage the War on Drugs at greater length. “This is a war that I saw destroy lives,” she said. “It eliminated a generation of African American men, covered our racism in ostensibly neutral guidelines and mandatory minimums… and created an intergenerational problem––although I wasn’t on the bench long enough to see this, we know that the sons and daughters of the people we sentenced are in trouble, and are in trouble with the criminal justice system.”
She added that the War on Drugs eliminated the political participation of its casualties. “We were not leveling cities as we did in WWII with bombs, but with prosecution, prison, and punishment,” she said, explaining that her life’s work is now focused on trying to reconstruct the lives that she undermined––as a general matter, by advocating for reform, and as a specific project: she is trying to go through the list of all the people she sentenced to see who deserves executive clemency.

I got raided at 3am, two cops with guns drawn on me as I woke from a peaceful sleep. For (allegedly) possessing 3/4 of an oz. A BCI "special agent" in north duhhkatoa. I was bringing out of state tuition and spending money to their loser state and they pulled that bullshit on me. Thankfully the level of competence in this shitstain area is on par with toenail fungus and I beat their BS rap. But the stress to my family and friends really pisses me off to this day. There was no humiliation. I told everyone around me so they could see just who these fuckers go after- I was and am a fun, honest, non-violent guy. Being open about it helped people see what a load of crap the whole thing was. I just don't understand how a cop can screw over a fellow American like that. Unless the cops are pieces of shit sociopaths with little ability.

I knew a few white people that served time for dealing drugs - so don't try and say no whites are prosecuted for it because I know better.

There are actually only a relatively small subset of drugs which are not fatal in overdose. Most of the psychedelics are like that. Since marijuana is the most mild psychedelic, it is also the drugs that is least possible to take any fatal overdose of. In general, I promote the view that one of the best questions to ask about any drug is "What does an overdose do?" The degree to which various drugs can be fatal when overdosed is the degree to which there should be more informed consent regarding those who take those kinds of drugs.
Personally, I agree with the view that people who want to commit suicide should be allowed to do so. Indeed, it may much more beneficially change people to have them face to face with that alternative. Of course, the existing systems are generally based on Debt Slavery, backed by Wars based on Deceits (as I discussed in my comment below.) In that context, we are watching the War on Drugs being one of the Deceitful Wars, in which the same basic mechanisms that drove debt slavery to become debt insanities, that could provoke death insanities, are also that the War on Drugs has driven a lot of death insanities!
However, overall, "dopeheads" very rarely kill themselves, compared to the degree to which illegal drugs become worth insane amounts of money, which money drives vicious spirals whereby various organized crime gangs, including the police, kill way more people than the drugs ever do! To switch over to intravenous injections of the "red pill" substance, one may consider how and why the human murder systems are the supreme systems, and must necessarily be so. Therefore, turning some drugs into illegal commodities made those become worth orders of magnitude more money than if those were legal, which then results in causing orders of magnitude more murders, within the overall combined money/murder systems. A sufficient overdose of the "red pill" substance will eventually result in recognizing that the only solutions to the series of wars based upon deceits would be to develop better death control systems. However, despite all of the progress in physical science enabling the development of weapons of mass destruction, et alia, there has not yet been even remotely possible corresponding progress in political science.
These days, it has become almost a mainstream opinion that the "War on Drugs" has been a "failure." However, that is a ridiculously superficial view adopted by people who have failed to understand how and why governments are necessarily the biggest form of organized crime, controlled by the best organized criminals, which made and maintained the "War on Drugs" in order to accomplish what it actually did accomplish, which is drive the social pyramid systems to get bigger and steeper, by enabling every different level of organized crime to flourish, and especially by having the money from illegal drugs end up in banks, which would be better protected by an increasingly militarized police force, which was developed by the "War on Drugs."
The article above was somewhat misleading because it switches gears from quoting that "one out of every 20 people the world over used illegal drugs in 2013," when the majority of that was due to marijuana. (The most publicly significant groups engaged in the campaigns to stop cannabis from being criminalized are the most publicly significant because they are getting tens of millions of dollars from evil banksters, like George Soros. Thereby, the dominant campaigns to "legalize marijuana" are more and more controlled opposition, rather than more radical, the way that those used to be, which developments are steering those campaigns into the dead ends of NOT promoting more Hemp Truth, in the context of more overall Radical Truths, but rather, promoting practical compromises with the old Huge Lies.

The article above, from Mike Keiger, is another example of the mainstream morons' view that the War on Drugs has been a "failure," which operates inside of much more profound failures to more fully comprehend the bigger picture. IT IS TYPICAL THAT THE CARTOON WAS THE ELEMENT IN THAT ARTICLE ABOVE THAT WAS MOST ACCURATE, BUT STILL WAY TOO SUPERFICIAL. Pretty well all of Keiger's material is doing that regarding other topics, more or less, as is typical throughout most of the content published on Zero Hedge.
It is a typically mistaken application of Hanlon's Razor to say we are stuck within a "dumb system," with respect to any of the "wars" that have apparently backfired and become dismal failures. There is generally a deliberate failure of the various controlled opposition groups, (who are the reactionary revolutionaries attempting to lead the mainstream morons backwards, to return to old-fashioned impossible ideals, as the basis for their "solutions") to face the facts that the basic social pyramid systems were DEBT SLAVERY BACKED BY WARS BASED ON DECEITS, and moreover, an even worse failure to think more deeply about how and why those are the existing systems, whereby it is pervasively and ubiquitously the case that there are integrated systems of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, which were enshrined in the War on Drugs generally, and most of all developed through the War on Marijuana.
In order to understand how and why that CARTOON was the best feature in the article above, one has to go through deeper levels of analysis regarding the bags of money that those players, the police, banksters, and drug cartels are holding, in order to understand that the most important of all of the cartels is the banking cartel!

Those who presume that there is merely a "dumb system," and thus, regard "the War on (some) Drugs as one of the most irrational, idiotic and destructive public policy failures," are making the typical mistake of presuming upon Hanlon's Razor, in ways which are NOT consistent with Occam's Razor, because those presumptions are based on deliberately ignoring the evidence which demonstrates that there was malicious planning behind making and maintaining the MAD ENFORCED FRAUDS. First, it is not a "dumb system," rather it is a system based upon the triumphs of organized crime. However, the second, still deeper level, of analysis is to look at the deeper reasons for how and why civilization is actually controlled by the principles and methods of organized crime, which have manifested through private property being claims backed by coercions, or through money being measurement backed by murder, because the debt controls were backed by the death controls. The only things which are "new" are due to the progress in physical science. However, progress in physical science has not been surpassed by progress in political science, because progress in political science would have to surpass the paradigm shifts that have already occurred in physical science. Human beings and civilizations necessarily exist as entropic pumps of energy flows, while the history of successful warfare based on backing up deceits with destruction, morphing to become successful finance based on enforcing frauds, has resulted in the political perceptions of that becoming as backwards as possible, with the most abstract way that developed being that the entropy equations of thermodynamics and information theory had an arbitrary minus sign inserted into them, in order to reverse the apparent meaning of entropy, so that reversed meaning would be consistent with presenting the biggest bullies' bullshit world view, that their relative degrees of organized crime had relative positive values, rather than were relative negative values.
The sources of that go back to human beings living by killing and eating other organisms. That was always the manifestation of human beings acting as entropic pumps of energy flows. Of course, changing the ways that we perceived political problems would not initially change those problems. However, eventually, that could result in us changing the ways that we responded to those problems. I return to my two points of deeper analysis above: FIRST, the real world is controlled by the methods of organized crime, and SECOND, the real world must necessarily be controlled by the methods of organized crime. Inside of the mainstream, mass media, perception of our political problems, there is increasingly a struggle to continue to deliberately ignore and misrepresent the ways that the debt slavery systems have generated numbers which are debt insanities. In some of the alternative views, there is some recognition of those social facts, but still only on relatively superficial levels. There is some superficial facing of the FIRST level of deeper analysis, but usually totally without going through the deeper SECOND level of analysis ... and none done of the deeper levels that follow after that! That criticism applies consistently throughout everything that the currently existing combined money/murder systems do, of course, including the War on (some) Drugs.

"Ending the War on Drugs" is practically guaranteed to be done in the worst possible ways!
The INTENSE PARADOXES with respect to progress in physical science without surpassing progress in political science are due to the intense paradoxes inherent to the current forms of "political science" being subsets of warfare, whose successes continue to be based upon deceits and treacheries. Within that context, all of the publicly significant schools of economics present everything in as backwards, and therefore absurd, ways possible. People who presume too much upon using Hanlon's Razor also then tend to continue to be able to still believe in old-fashioned false fundamental dichotomies, and the related impossible ideals. Since they deliberately never think more deeply about the problems, they also continue to promote bogus "solutions" which are similarly superficial. Almost the entire range of those who are publicly significant forms of campaigns to End the Drug Wars, or to Legalize Marijuana, have become increasingly stupid forms of controlled opposition. That is generally the same pattern also repeated in the controlled opposition groups who oppose everything else that the ruling classes have been doing, in the various other ways that Debt Slavery backed by Deceitful Wars have been developing, such as how the oligarchical runaway fascist plutocracy juggernaut has been building a bigger and better fascist police state, in order to protect themselves, and advance their overall agenda.
Since human beings and civilizations operate as entropic pumps of energy flows, but the biggest bullies' bullshit world view has dominated everything, so much, for so long, so that almost everyone continues to take for granted their misunderstanding the concept of entropy in the most backwards and absurd ways possible (which had historical sources that have been flowing through and through history, long before the sciences of thermodynamics and information theory were developed), we are living inside of an oxymoronic scientific dictatorship, that is not scientific about itself, but only more scientific about applying technologies to enable it to become better at backing up lies with violence.

The ways that civilization is controlled by MAD ENFORCED FRAUDS are due to civilization operating according to the principles and methods of organized crime, whose excessive successes have resulted in their being almost nothing but controlled opposition groups that surround that core of organized crime, while none of those are able and willing to go through the kinds of paradigm shifts that it would take to better understand what their problems actually are, especially since doing so is in head-on collisions with all the most fortified social taboo topics. However, those who only superficially recognize those facts then can still promote bogus "solutions," which get away with deliberately ignoring how and why civilization actually developed on the basis of larger and larger scale organized crime, which has been amplified to astronomical sizes by progress in physical science ... The human species can not survive those contradictions without going through series of intellectual scientific revolutions, that would apply to political science, and therefore, apply to the combined money/murder systems.
All of the other various dualities are useless and misleading if those continue to be presented as dualities, expressed through impossible ideals, rather than expressed as working through unitary mechanisms. There is only one energy, and therefore, there is only one political system, which is organized crime. There are no genuine solutions which could exist otherwise than as better organized crime. That would be possible if enough people understood that, in order to enable there to be better dynamic equilibria between the different systems of organized lies. The only connection between human laws and natural laws is the ability to back up lies with violence. Human beings necessarily live that way. Meanwhile, the biggest bullies have been able to promote their bullshit that somehow legalizing lies, and enforcing those with legalized violence, stops those from still basically being lies and violence. In those ways, the biggest and best organized gangs of criminals, i.e., governments, and the banksters, et alia, were able to promote the false fundamental dichotomies between them versus other organized crime gangs. That was always a profoundly unscientific view, while any "solutions" which would stop that from happening were also always profoundly unscientific views.
The problems are the excessive successes of the biggest and best organized gangs of criminals being able to control their opposition so much, for so long, that the vast majority of people do not understand that, and do not want to understand that. Hence the money going through the political processes created the War on Drugs, as a deliberately designed vicious spiral, which would make all levels of organized crime become more wealthy and more powerful. When one becomes more deeply scientific about human beings and civilizations, one recognizes that it is a FALSE FUNDAMENTAL DICHOTOMY to perceive "government versus organized crime." Rather, "government" must be the biggest form of organized crime, which is controlled by the best organized gangs of criminals, which are currently the biggest banks, and the big corporations that have grown up around those banks controlling the public "money" supply, by being able to make that "money" out of nothing as debts, while governments enforced those frauds. That is the only way to understand the War on Drugs, or any of the other DECEITFUL WARS.
Everywhere in the world, the established systems of debt slavery are turning into debt insanity (with the underlying issues being how much natural resources are left to continue to be strip-mined, in order to keep those debt engine treadmills of MADLY ENFORCED FRAUDS going, and growing, rather than stop growing, which will cause them to collapse into crazy chaos, because nothing in previous human history has adapted to that happening in any overall and systematic ways.) By definition, what will stop endless exponential growth must be some form of death controls. At the present time, that is set up to happen through debt insanities provoking death insanities. Inside of that context, there are no other better resolutions of the real problems than to develop better death control systems. However, since the existing systems are based on the maximum possible deceits about themselves, and that deceitful frame of reference is shared and also upheld by the controlled opposition groups, that surround the core of the organized crime gangs actually operating the existing systems, there are no good reasons to doubt that we are necessarily headed towards the runway debt insanities provoking runaway death insanities.

I came away from the Article with the feeling he wants to eliminate the DEA. I am all for it. Despite the manipulations wrought by the PTB, at least we have a chance to circumvent what would attempt to replace the DEA. The DEA is redundant, a failure, ghastly expensive and a completely ineffective agency such as the DEA should be shut down. It will spare American citizens the costs, injustices and the criminalization of entire generations.
