German Deja Vu: Merkel Summons US Ambassador Over New Spying Claims
It would appear the most transparent administration ever is in trouble with an 'ally' once again. Following its wrist-slap from France last week, and its previous quasi-admission of spying on Merkel and her senior officials (which we are sure President Obama said would never happen again - better to ask for forgiveness than permission?), The Guardian reports Angela Merkel’s chief of staff has asked the US ambassador for a meeting to discuss the latest reports of alleged US spying on Germany.
Reports two years ago that the chancellor’s mobile phone was monitored by the NSA caused diplomatic friction between Berlin and Washington, prompting Barack Obama to pledge that he would not allow America’s massive communications surveillance capability to damage relations with close allies.

A German official said Peter Altmaier had invited John Emerson to the chancellery on Thursday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.
On Wednesday WikiLeaks published a list of German phone numbers that it claimed showed that the US National Security Agency eavesdropped on senior German officials beyond Merkel.

German Intelligence Agency BND Helped NSA Spy On France, EU: ReportsGerman intelligence agencies spied on European officials on behalf of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), according to media reports on Thursday. Germany's foreign intelligence service BND had conducted surveillance on French officials and European targets, Deutsche Welle reported, citing local reports.
The BND is believed to have provided over 40,000 instances of signals intelligence (SIGINT) to the NSA, including conversations procured through phone taps, conducted from the BND’s Bad Aibling outpost in Bavaria. The reports did not indicate the timing or duration of the spying.
The reports also alleged that the Chancellery, the office of German leader Angela Merkel and the overseer of BND, had turned a blind eye to the NSA spying to ensure that Berlin maintained access to U.S. counterterrorism intel.

Germany was my best times in the Army. Hanau was close to Frankfurter and was a blast! Great people and the foods available from every cuisine was fantastic. It's a shame how they are treated by the US. When they pivot to Russia the EU will be fucked good and hard. They deserve it for being an American territory by almost every way they can be. Germans are wonderful people and deserve better than US hegemony.

Merkel is an idiot. She is also an East German, and that makes it even worse. They used to employ almost a quarter of the population to spy on the rest of East Germans. Parents could literally not talk freely in their own homes, neighbours could not trust neighbours and schools informed on all pupils.

well, what is changing is the German public opinion. Germans are now probably those of EU countries who hate the USA the most. And it shows, the recent poll said that only 19% Germans would fight Russia, even if Russia attacked a NATO country! They keep getting closer and closer to Russia, see the recent signing of the agreement to lead the Russian gas directly from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Of course Germans cannot cut ties with the USA openly, but they are doing it covertly, step by step. Many German companies go to Russia despite sanctions, they make some ficitonal subsidiary in Turkey for example to circumvent sanctions. But more and more German industrial captains are finding ways to do business with Russia. One expert said: Obama forgets that Russia is not a communist country with an iron curtain anymore, it is an open economy, which means that you just cant keep all the people from doing business with Russia, from having ties to Russia, they will simply find a way. If Ukraine was to be the way to cut off Russia from EU and especailly Germany economically, it is failing miserably.
