FBI Admits 11 Attacks Against Internet, Power Grid Lines In California This Year

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Joshua Krause via SHTFPlan.com,

On Tuesday, someone broke into an underground vault in Sacramento, and cut several high-capacity internet cables. Nobody knows who this person is or why they did it, but since that time the FBI has revealed that it was not an isolated incident. They’ve been investigating 10 other recent attacks on the internet infrastructure of California, and they seem to be deeply troubled by the vulnerability of these cables.

The FBI is investigating at least 11 physical attacks on high-capacity Internet cables in California’s San Francisco Bay Area dating back a year, including one early Tuesday morning.

Agents confirm the latest attack disrupted Internet service for businesses and residential customers in and around Sacramento, the state’s capital.

FBI agents declined to specify how significantly the attack affected customers, citing the ongoing investigation. In Tuesday’s attack, someone broke into an underground vault and cut three fiber-optic cables belonging to Colorado-based service providers Level 3 and Zayo.

The attacks date back to at least July 6, 2014, said FBI Special Agent Greg Wuthrich.

“When it affects multiple companies and cities, it does become disturbing,” Wuthrich said. “We definitely need the public’s assistance.”

A security professional who was interviewed for that article, also suggested something that should perk the ears of any American that hears it.

“When it’s situations that are scattered all in one geography, that raises the possibility that they are testing out capabilities, response times and impact,” Thompson said. “That is a security person’s nightmare.”

The article goes on to compare these incidents to similar attacks that happened in Arizona last year, as well as California in 2009. However, they may be missing the bigger picture. This whole situation reminds me of an article I wrote just over a year ago about several attacks that were carried out against the power grid, which again, occurred in California and Arizona (weird right?). This included the very unsettling attack against a power station in San Jose, which wasn’t revealed until 10 months after the fact, and to date, there has been no explanation for the incident.

Rather than a bomb, the San Jose attack turned out to be a frighteningly coordinated shooting. It’s estimated that 6 individuals approached the facility late at night armed with AK-47’s, and opened fire, but not before sneaking onto the property and disabling the alarm system. The attackers managed to disrupt a total of 10 transformers, and escaped just before police arrived. Investigators would later find more evidence of just how professional the attack was:

“After walking the site with PG&E officials and FBI agents, Mr. Wellinghoff said, the military experts told him it looked like a professional job. In addition to fingerprint-free shell casings, they pointed out small piles of rocks, which they said could have been left by an advance scout to tell the attackers where to get the best shots.”

It should be abundantly clear now that some organization out there is quietly coordinating small-scale attacks against America’s power grid and internet lines. In my previous article, I suggested that they’re probing our infrastructure for weaknesses, and gauging reaction times and security. I still think that may be the case.

It’s possible that these attacks are all unrelated, but it sure doesn’t look like it to me. I won’t suggest who may be doing it since it’s impossible to know for sure, but it definitely looks like there is an organized effort of some kind to disable the electricity and communications of Arizona and California. We probably won’t know who it is until they get around to a full-scale attack, which given the vulnerability of America’s power grid, may be absolutely devastating.

all this kind of shit will continue whether conducted independently or by the gov-scum/cia-scum.  All terrorism is sponsored by the gov-scum anyway.

It will all keep happening in order for the gov-scum to introduce more treasonous, sociopathic, tyrranical, draconian laws against all people and they will criminalize everything we do as a threat against the gov-scum and basically ciminalize all free thought, speech or movement within the ever increasing prison planet we live on.

start getting yourselves used to buying real books again that mean a lot to you.  Or at least find the pdf's of them, download them, print them out, or copy them to multiple discs, zip drives, hard drives, etc.

Start getting yourselves used to not having a free internet or even an internet at all.  The internet is most likely not going to be shut down, but it's eventually going to be massively restricted and weaponized against you.

Save backups of backups of backups of backups in all forms of media that you can use outside of the internet so that you hopefully can't lose it unless you are in a death fight against those who will eventually come to try and confiscate it from you.

Stacking and saving physical information is now just as important as stacking physical silver and gold.

As the gov-scum sociopaths do everything they can to make everything digital, therefore, destroying everything written, they will then also begin destroying everything digital that they don't control or manipulate.  Just look at other media, radio, TV, movies, etc.  All controlled and manipulated lies and propaganda used as a weapon against the masses.

The internet will eventually become just as corrupt and controlled and used as a massive weapon of mass control against everyone in the world.

And all truth and history and concepts of freedom and liberty will eventually be wiped out over the coming generations so that at some point not a single fucking person alive or born on this planet will have any idea that anything even happened before they were fucking born!

That's the goal...to create people born straight into slavery and servitude with no fucking way at all for them to ever know that anything ever existed before they were created.  All information will be fed to them by the 1984 propaganda machine and they will be fed pills or injected with chemicals like THX 1138 and they will then be killed in the middle of thier prime before they acheive critical thinking and independence like in Logan's Run.

The internet is most likely not going to be shut down, but it's eventually going to be massively restricted and weaponized against you.

Eventually? It already is weaponized... ever since the tracking cookie was introduced "they" have a record of everything you've done on the internet. Currently "they" wait until you do something, drunk driving, white collar crime, these mass shooters, then "they" publicize it to coerce a plea deal, or prejudice the jury pool.

The tipping point will be when they don't wait. "They'll" just show up, say "we know you've been looking at pornography and know what you said on zerohedge. Come along quietly and we won't shoot your kids/wife/dog".

First "they" came for the ZHers and we did nothing...

Woolsey warned us.  Those special ops guys loyal to their paymasters will be used to bring about the culling.  The unederground special forces will either stand their ground to protect us and their kin or will move on to the next empire in the east.  They are well aware that the new empire is funded by the PTB and the implosion of the old is required for best return on  investment in the new empire. The center of finance moved to southeast asia around 1999.  Smoke and mirrors has delayed awareness here so that maximum transfer of wealth could be accomplished prior to the awakening.  An impoverished electorate dependent on government assistance is in no position to make demands on the criminals in charge.  The vast majority are still accepting the propaganda from corporate media.

Lady Bugs are a great tool. Have you ever watched those little bees that eat aphids? They hover and go in for the kill.

Some of the birds munch on them in the morning and early evening.Even the lizards like them.

It's just one of those things that happen, unless you live in a greenhouse. You just prepare and re-pot them before they produce fruit in the fall again.

Try Neem oil mixed with a little pyrethum, add a touch of Dawn dishwashing liquid to emulsify the oil, and spray the stem to eliminate crawlers, letting the excess drain down the stem into the soil.  Don't use insecticidal soap.  If you can find a supplier of nematodes, they eagerly munch aphids underground.

Good luck with your fall peppers.

Yeah, especially given that in that area (Im not far from it myself) there's been thefts of entire sections of phone cable. I talked with one of the CenturyLink repair guys and he said they'd pick poles with a straight run, hack both ends of a cable and tie onto a vehicle and let it rip. Given that the cable was exposed it seems likely it was just done out of opportunity.

I work in IT in Sacramento and can confirm this latest attack as well as one on May 22nd disrupted our business.  I was CC'd on the status updates from the carrier.  On May 22nd someone intentionally destroyed a 149 fiber cable in Frenso, the largest made.  It took XO Communications over 24hrs to repair.  This line is a major link down to Los Angeles.    This last Tuesday at 4:30AM, L3 had 3 lines cut in 3 separate locations around Merced in a coordinated attack.  This does remind me of the Metcalf Substation Attack that occurred right around the time the free Syrian army was up to no good.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metcalf_sniper_attack

If I wanted to really disrupt the power grid, I would need to find out how to shut down CAISO, the organization that coordinates all power distribution for the western 13 states.  It's just a 1/2 mile from my office.  The first step would be figuring out how to sever the link to its mirror site in Los Angeles.  Then again, the building has a ton of defenses and the 82nd airborne is a phone call away.  No power grid means no fiber grid since you need repeater stations every couple miles to boost the signal up.  A new breakthrough will change this though.

I understand that some people may interpret my observations as sensitive info at first glance.  Go look for yourself, CAISO has the exact location of the mirror site on their web page and a 30 sec Google search got me there.  I think we can all agree that's poor OPSEC, or maybe they are confident in their defenses?  I bet you they could get an uptime institute Tier IV rating, loss of connectivity and destruction of both sites is wildly unlikely.  If these fiber cuts are more than just vandals and their goal is to carry out larger and more complex attacks, we have to assume that a good deal of effort went into preparing for and carrying out the attacks by resourceful individuals.  We must also assume the same level of effort went into plans for monitoring the results of their little science experiment.  I think it's safe to say they aren't looking to an obscure financial blog to monitor.  We have all experienced outages in the past and now every telecom provider has great tools readily accessible for their customers (or anyone going to their web page) to learn about and monitor outages in their area.  Monitoring repairs and affected areas takes nothing more than a decent spotting scope and an Internet connection.  Or as I saw last month with a fiber cut in Modesto, just wait for the TV news to broadcast all these details.  The worst thing we can do is keep the general public and politicians in the dark about this stuff.  The EMP Coalition report says taking out a few of our 600KV transformers will collapse the grid and result in 9/10 Americans dead in 12mos.  Anyone with the capability to carry out such an attack would not need the EMP Coalition pointing this out, they would figure it out on their own pretty quickly.

The solution is not found in attacking the messenger (you) but in keeping out the riff-raff who might want to cause us all harm.

Tracking collars for all non-US citizens in the country should do the job nicely.

And we can add an obedience buzzer for when they talk shit about us in our own house.

Depends.Context.

Which nationalies are we talking about ?

If it is by accident of birth, like mine.I had no choice being born with three nationalities.

Voluntary dualities cetainly should disbar you from any Govt. role in either country, but

other countries enforce that anyway. The USA and Israel are the odd men out.

Stop going around bombing other countries.
You will not need the big expensive army or dog collars.

Some of these bad actors are "Lone Wolf" operatives, who may not be as sophisticated as the organized extremist groups; so the less they know the better.

Hate to break it to you but CAISO is not a secret, nor are the other ISOs ... They all have web sites and apps and phone book listings. See "ISO" in your App Store.

In simpler terms,  it's how the NSA (or whatever .gov group) intends to shut us down when the time comes.  No flash-mobs if no communications.  It's back to the old CB when that happens. Of course, few have them.  Isn't technology great.

I'm still wondering about this one:  http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/No-Water-in-North-Stonington-30....  My mother heard the explosion several miles away; the house shook.  The authorities are saying that "no foul play" is suspected, but at the same time are admitting that there is no reason for it to have happened.  Really that was a very dangerous explosion.  If someone wanted to disrupt a town, that would be an easy way.  I am guessing that if it was intentional, we will not be told.

Just think what will happen in a nuclear war with Russia/China.The US is extremely vulnerable to any kind of military attack, especially nuclear. This begs the question, what will Russian and Chinese generals target (or put another way, if you are a Russian/Chinese general, what would you do)? In any war on US soil, energy infrastructure (refineries, pipelines, loading docks, etc) will likely be targeted. US society (as have other societies) has become very dependent on the internet, which relies on lots of electricity, fiber optic cables, computer server farms, etc. In contrast to older style vacuum tubes, solid state electronics are vulnerable to electromagnetic pulses generated by the detonation of nuclear weapons. Obviously, fiber optic cables and computer farms are also very susceptible to physical damage. Summary of US foreign policy for the future can be found at:www.foreignpolicyi.org/foreignpolicy2015

If I am any country, that was threatened by a power such as USA, I would be using every means to send forward teams to stand by in USA for distruptive attacks.
But even with US attacking countries all around the world. There are few such incidents in U.S.
That could mean US is not much vulnerable to such attacks,
Which could also mean the current attacks are home grown.
As someone said, is that FBi?
Maybe they are jealous of NSA budget

You might be all right if you brought your own parachute, can get it on without anyone else noticing and open the emergency exit. Aside from that all the electronics would be fried (no more hydraulics) and that aircraft just became a large brick in the sky. Also don't think the Testicle Inspection Agency is big on people bringing chutes on the plane. Hate flying these days.

Go attack a High Tension wire corridor with the vehicles.  Just rip the towers down onto each other shorting out the grid.
