it is, the movie is Marathon Man, and the dentist is Zell, a fugitive from the Reich who is living in SA. i forget the details, Hoffmans brother is with the CIA, and is tracking Zell, Hoffman is a grad student, completely oblivious to what his brother is doing, until his brother is killed. Hoffman knows where the diamonds are, and Zell tortures him with a dental probe and oil of clove to sooth the pain.

Well said above, and we are rapidly moving from fear to chains here in Merika (most already there, but don't know it...). The wife had on the evening news late last week, and I was unfortunately in the same room.
