With Yanis Gone, Now Troika Heads Must Roll

Now that Yanis Varoufakis has resigned, in the kind of unique fashion and timing that shows us who the real men are, it’s time to clear the other side of the table as well. The new finance minister, Euclid Tsakalotos, should not have to face the same faces that led to Europe’s painful defeat in yesterday’s Greek referendum.

That would be an utter disgrace, and the EU would not survive it. So we now call for Juncker, Lagarde, Schäuble, Dijsselbloem, Draghi, Merkel and Schulz to move over.

It’s time for the Troika to seek out some real men too. It cannot be that the winner leaves and all the losers get to stay.

The attempts to suppress the IMF debt sustainability analysis were a shameful attempt to mislead the people of Greece, and of Europe as a whole. And don’t forget the US: Lagarde operates out of Washington.

It cannot be that after this mockery of democracy, these same people can just remain where they are.

It’s time for Europe to show the same democratic heart that Varoufakis has shown this morning. And if that doesn’t happen, all Europeans should make sure to leave the European Union as quickly as they can.

Because that would prove once and for all that the EU is no more than a cheap facade, a thin veil behind which something pretty awful tries to hide its ugly face.

Here is Yanis’ explanation behind his resignation:

Minister No More! (Yanis Varoufakis)

The referendum of 5th July will stay in history as a unique moment when a small European nation rose up against debt-bondage. Like all struggles for democratic rights, so too this historic rejection of the Eurogroup’s 25th June ultimatum comes with a large price tag attached. It is, therefore, essential that the great capital bestowed upon our government by the splendid NO vote be invested immediately into a YES to a proper resolution – to an agreement that involves debt restructuring, less austerity, redistribution in favour of the needy, and real reforms.

Soon after the announcement of the referendum results, I was made aware of a certain preference by some Eurogroup participants, and assorted ‘partners’, for my… ‘absence’ from its meetings; an idea that the Prime Minister judged to be potentially helpful to him in reaching an agreement. For this reason I am leaving the Ministry of Finance today. I consider it my duty to help Alexis Tsipras exploit, as he sees fit, the capital that the Greek people granted us through yesterday’s referendum. And I shall wear the creditors’ loathing with pride.

We of the Left know how to act collectively with no care for the privileges of office. I shall support fully Prime Minister Tsipras, the new Minister of Finance, and our government. The superhuman effort to honour the brave people of Greece, and the famous OXI (NO) that they granted to democrats the world over, is just beginning.

I don't know but it seems to me that Yaris is a decent and honest Guy who was honest enough to stand up to The Troika and point oiut the truth that Greece was unable to repay the Debt so there was no solution in adding more Debt? He then also had the integrity to recognise that he had, in his honsety, ruffled too many (German) feathers to result in a new agreement and so resigned to smooth the future passage for his country.

That seems to me like a fine human being who is lost in this cesspool of corruption and dishonesty. IMHO.

Correct. A sociopath will never change because to do so would mean admitting it was wrong, and that is completely against everything they believe about themself. When confronted, a sociopath will always first double down on the same destructive behavior that got them into the problem. When that doesn't work and they are cornered, their only options are to run or kill themselves. Unfortunately, they almost always choose to the former and not the latter.

The Troika flip flopped and lost alot of cred, especially with that vindicating report that came out about debt relief being needed. It made sense, but the timing of the release was suspect. Why would they throw credence to the Greek position at such a critical time?

Not only that, but imagine how peripheral Europe is feeling right now. The Irish, Portuguese, Italians and Spanish all suffered austerity. Now they see the Greeks standing up and not taking it anymore, and they must be thinking, could we have done that too?

The Eurozone is screwed in its present form. The ripples that Greece started, have along way to go.

IMF doesn't need to roll any heads, they just need to continue to flip flop and they will whimper out of relevance.

Imagine Europe being like a large family of mostly retarded children and a german Mutti and one of the kids turned out extremely punkish but seems to have a spine and now the other kids started doubting their own existence.

Yes, Italy, Spain, Ireland and Portugal should have done what Greece has done. But they didn't. And that is the important difference.

So one does not have to say "Fuck the EU" anymore, they are fucked already.

From a Greece point of view that is reasonable.  From a EU/US point of view promotions are in order (FU and Move up).    Did people of Greece vote  their wallets/vote to avoid debt/vote for freedom, free from outside lending?  Just what was the motive of their votes?  Greece needs to define what they stand for and how this "stand for" is financed.

These events are like divorces, nothing pretty here and mistakes on all sides, lawyers/bankers win.

btw, how could for example Merkel get rid of Schäuble? the guy has his own support in her party. she'd risk to lose her seat if she attempted such a move

I suppose for Varoufakis what is important is how he is looked upon by his own people. At this moment, not too shabby.

His "creditor loathing" badge certainly makes him a welcome guest in Zero Hedge Town.

As for the Troikatard air pump, it will come at a price. Anyone with negotiating experience knows that causing a player to be ejected from the table is a hollow victory at best.

Varoufakis resigning was fairly smart move, it stops those extremely butt hurt Troika negotiators trying to get some sort of symbolic revenge.

These guys tried to force their will on Greece with no sensible reason except to defeat their will, make them entirely subservient. Of course what they were asking would have totally destroyed what was left of Greece's econonmy, but is was never about that for them, it was about totally thwarting and making an example of Greece. But their arrogance came back and kicked them in the nuts and help Greece set an example to the people of other countries in dire trouble, the last thing they would have wanted.

They never figured coming up against real non corrupt adults who would actually  think about their own country first.

And as an expert on game play he recognises that his part in the game is played, the game changed, and neccessary to get out the way. The guys fucking brilliant, I suspect he will be seconded by Spain soon.

The funny thing is the Troika will keep the same people and same game play going, their arrogance wont let them admit they got out bluffed, out played by lowly Greece.

Merkel is now in a solid position to say NEIN to Greece's OXI, shut down the loan facilities, let Greece fend for itself, see how that goes. A lot of Germans would be happey if she did that and her support at home would grow.

For Merkel, it's Germany first, the EU second and membercountries a distant third in order of priority.

"For Merkel, it's Germany first, the EU second and membercountries a distant third in order of priority."

That looks like a pretty solid list of priorities, considering she's elected by Germans to be the prime minister of Germany and look out for the German interests. So it's Tsipras (assuming he's doing what he genuinely think best, among a series of awful choices to pick among, for the Greek peple).

It's the priorities of several other European prime ministers that is seriously flawed, putting Eu before their own nations for... what exactly? being recognized as serious statists by the EU bureocrats? Not risking being openly torpedoed a la Berlusconi, Orban or Tsipras?

"So we now call for Juncker, Lagarde, Schäuble, Dijsselbloem, Draghi, Merkel and Schulz to move over."

This is by far the most delusional "opinion" ever espoused (at least to my knowledge) in these hallowed pages. Surely you are not under the illusion that the Pedophile Politburo of BrUSsel$, Christopher La Garde dog, Baron Goldman Draghi and Mutti Merkel give one shit about truth, honesty and dignity? The show will go on and on and truth and responsibility have no place in the reptilian plan for total sheeple subjugation. These faithful minions of the reptile king will be going nowhere until Deutsche Bank disintegrates in a steaming pile of Goldman Suck$ toxic derivative feces.

Fat chance. We are talking politicians here. They could destroy a nation from the ground up and cause mass death of its population but still would never resign. They are parasites without shame.

Yanis wins.  He is playing chess whilst the ECB plays checkers.  Now that he is gone, who is the scapegoat?  Unlike politicians Yanis and company took the job but don't want the job.  The psychopaths listed in this article want the job, want to control, want to be emporers.

The Euro is a mismanaged Medium of Exchange (MOE), as they all are.

But the Greek government made trading promises that it did not, and will not, keep. And that is an affront to all the traders using the MOE. It is they who must make up the Greek DEFAULT through INFLATION and/or higher INTEREST payments.

Governments everywhere are doing what the Greek government did. They must all be forced to pare down ... and that's not austerity ... that's ceasing to make trading promises they will not, and cannot keep.

Governments must only be financed by tax collections and fees (not tarrifs and borrowing). When they can no longer extract taxes to deliver on their trading promises, that is the limit on their size and activity.

The marketplace must no longer tolerate government's universal propensity to DEFAULT. It should treat them like any other deadbeat trader ... refuse to trade with them.

Perhaps you've never heard of a gold standard? You know, like the one that existed to automatically balance global trade prior to 1971...

The euro is not just a "mismanaged" Medium of Exchange (MOE) --it's just another illegitimate ponzi scheme designed for skimming

Perhaps you've never heard of a gold standard? You know, like the one that existed to automatically balance global trade prior to 1971...

I was there. At that time I believe gold was exchanging for over $70 an ounce. But the official government number was $35. The horse was already out of the barn. The ship had already left the port. The train had already left the station.

But the French saw the opportunity to buy $70 gold for $35 ... and they exploited it.

It's kind of fun watching history you actually experienced get rewritten ... and then being told "perhaps you've never heard."

Perhaps you favor the so-called gold standard. Perhaps you can tell us how it works. Go ahead. Give it a try. And be sure to show us how it resolves problems we have now without bringing on new problems as bad or worse.

In case some of you haven't read the actual proposal by Juncker, check the attached pdf. Many details are unclear, but the core idea remains financial carpet bombing.

EDIT: Also no chance in hell for national unity government, don't listen to buffoons.

EDIT2: Yanis Varoufakis remains an elected parliament member, legally he can always make a comeback. Don't listen to "enraged Tsipras demans resignation" scenarios, they're BS.

Juncker, Lagarde, Schäuble, Dijsselbloem, Draghi, Merkel and Schulz

This is the troika's best and brightest (and cunt-iest)

Q: what would they replace them with?

A: someone even shittier and more incompetent. Bring it on.

And BTW, Yannis eats and drinks for free in my house from now until the end of time. Motherfucker knows how to make an exit!

Can any Greek ZH'ers give us any info about the new guy?

Juncker, Lagarde, Schäuble, Dijsselbloem, Draghi, Merkel and Schulz

...well...most (all?) claim to have doctorates. We do see parallels:

Juncker - Dr. Goebbels

Schäuble - Dr. Strangelove

Dijsselbloem? Hell, it's the glasses -- Dr. Mengele

Put 'em in the dock at a new Nuremberg, and play them at their own game, i.e, nuke Berlin and Brussels if the verdicts are not satisfactory, "just to encourage the others".

Lagarde and Merkel -- into the pit in thongs, mud-wrestling to the end.

On Varoufarkis' blog, one commenter remarked,

"Isn’t it time for Yanis to become the next Governor of the Bank of Greece?"

I think such a possibility is spot-on --not necessarily in terms of such a position specifically, but as a prime example of what is most likely. We are witnessing, after all, a game of chess, not checkers.

Moreover, the reasons given for this quasi-forced resignation are merely those that have been in force since the day he was appointed to the role. Say what!?

The EU bureaucrats don't want him in the room --so he resigns? Only a card-carrying member of the flocked-up, woolly hoi polloi would believe that's all that's happening here.

The fact that Merkel et al cannot possibly balance the proper function or even survival of the EMU with her mandate as head of state in Germany shows that the Euro Project is fatally doomed not just structurally but politically as well.

This 'Greek Crisis' has made that abundantly clear. One can bash the players endlessly over mismanagement of negotiations, unfairness, callousness, etc. but the fact remains that this Euro thing is a failed construct.

They're playing square vs. round pegboard at this point and need to wake up to reality.
