F-16 Fighter Collides With Civilian Cessna Over South Carolina
A day of diplomatic blow-ups in Europe just had a more literal, if perhaps more tragic echo, in the US when minutes ago in a scene straight out of Breaking Bad took place in real life when an F-16 fighter jet is said to have crashed into a civillian Cessna airplane, above Highway 52, near Cooper River in Berkely County, 30 miles north of Charleston, South Carolina.

My dad saw explosion in the sky driving down old Highway 52 on the way to church - learning now it was a plane crash. @postandcourier

According to witness and official reports, the F-16’s pilot ejected safely, according to WCSC's Bill Walsh, but debris from the plane is strewn on the ground near Lewisfield Plantation. As the photo below shows, what appears to be an plane engine was found in a trailer park.

According to RT, local firefighters and first responders are on the scene and looking for the wreckage of the civilian plane, with a helicopter searching the nearby Tailrace Canal. It is unknown how many people were on board the Cessna, or whether they survived.
The South Carolina Air National Guard tweeted that none of its planes are believed to be involved in the air accident.

A photo of the wreckage identifies the F-16 as part of the 55th Fighter Squadron (55 FS), part of the US Air Force’s 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.
Amy Ramsey Dye posted these two pictures of the crash on Facebook. #chsnews pic.twitter.com/6MnaxH3RzS

To answer your question, yes, trailer parks are dangerous places.
Tornados, F-16s, that guy fucking your wife.
Plane fall out of sky, land in trailer park. Sounds like USA.
Wonder who was on the cessna that just got silenced...
The F-16 should have picked up the cessna on radar and been able to avoid him. How does this happen?
weird.
looks like debris on the ground.
weird.
usually that stuff vaporizes.
weird.
maybe is some sort of new-tech composite or something.
just .. weird.
hugs,
todd beamer
The trailer should soon fall neatly into its own footprint at free fall acceleration. Then it will all make sense.
Don't giggle too hard; in 10 years or so the this Nation will be one big trailer park coast to coast. Those in a trailer will be the 'wealthy' ones.
Pro-tip; fruit storage crates make the best cardboard roofing material as it's waxed and thus kinda sorta water proof.
I hate to say it here with all you conspiracy nut jobs but.
It is known that military pilots "engage" with slow civilian aircraft to practice intercepts with drones and cruise missiles.
The local FAA radar and F-16 driver conversations must be secured immediately
He's fucked if he's heard saying "tally ho"...
But... in all fairnes (too late) the F-16 driver could have been in an high performance maneuver and turned or dove or climbed right into the Cessna.
1) The F-16 pilot was doing advanced mauevers outside of restricted airspace.
2) The Cessna pilot wandered into restricted airspace and wasn't seen on radar.
more likely it was scenario 1, the pilot is junior, poking around doesn't watch what's going on, and suddenly clips a cessna.
In Amerika, you are trailer park refuse, but please to consider, in former Soviet Union you are urbanize cement apartment block or you are subsistence village peasant. Only rich oligarch and compliant staffer is enjoy clean fresh domicile.
The f-16 "driver"? You sound like a real knowlegable guy. Idiot.
Pilots often euphemistically refer to themselves as 'drivers'.
Both civil and military.
Put enough latex paint on cardboard and it'll be waterproof.
The found the Cessna pilot's passport under that F16 engine, and it appears he's part of the ISIS air force. Damn, they everywhere!
you're on a roll, Saint I - keep it up, love your posts !
"How does this happen?"
In less than a heartbeat.
Now meth lab kamikaze hits!
It's Bush's fault....
Duh
Cessna had a Confed flag on top of its wing?
The only rational explanation is that Putin jammed the F-16's radar from his moonbase.
so we begin bombimg in five minutes?
Scratch that itch
Intercepted radio chatter:
"Tower, this is Ghost Rider requesting to buzz the trailer park."
"Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full"
That's not a trailer park, they all still have wheels installed.
"The F-16 should have picked up the cessna on radar and been able to avoid him. How does this happen?"
Easy, slow and low, on takeoff or landing, there's lots of aircraft around, you have les maneuverbility, and very little time to react when someone does something wrong. Your observation is correct, but in this venue,it's like asking how a Honda hit Ferrari in a parking garage because the Ferrari should have been able to get out of the way.
If I may speculate, the F-16 pilot did detect the Cessna and was going to give him a show. The Cessna driver, being unaware of the inpromtu unbreifed ACM/DCM makes a turn into the path of the F-16
Of course with the faster speed of the F-16, the turn rate and radius is much greater than that of the Cessna and the closure rate is such that it is too late to avoid a collision.
Cessna with an ECM Pod?
Not so. Radars are detection, tracking, and missile guidance control systems. They're very expensive, and have time-limited life hours, so are not used when not needed to find potential enemies or training.
+1000 - F-16 Pilot: I was mapping Walmart locations in preparation for the Jade Helm presentation when I was flying near this trailer park & thought, Baseball, Apple pie & a Damn Cessna!
Naw, the Air Force was sending those Russian strategic bombers a message.
Well, I guess the state of the military really does reflect the state of the country in general.
Hard to believe the exhaust nozzle from an F-16 fell from the sky and came to rest at a forty-five degree angle against a mobile home without even denting it or knocking over the Weber in the front yard.
Exactly my comment below.
So, what's up with that?
I mean, if you want to see what a real crash site looks like, check out the Pentagon or the field in Pennsylvania after 9/11.
Oh wait...
It's quite likely that the exhaust nozzle separated from the jet on impact and it took a bounce over to the trailer. The speeds of the planes couldn't have been too fast.
the trailer owner probably moved it over to grill up some pork steaks...
Meth can give superhuman strength.
There you go with the stereotypes. No, sleaveless trailer park people do not have "superhuman strength."
The owner of the trailer must be pissed. He's been waiting a lifetime for a lawsuit opportunity like this, the scratch ticket idea of financial freedom not working out and all. Thank God there's always the "emotional distress" angle.
Good luck sueing the gubmint. He'll be long dead before they even look at the paperwork/lawsuit.
Careful with that logic, citizen.
God does hate trailer parks - I'm sure it's explained somewhere in the bible, probably the old testament.
Ezekiel 13:106 -
Dwell not in places with wheels, for they beget iniquity and evil.
Female firefighter in top pic is nice
lol, I had to check her out after that
I confess...
Now I understand what distracted the F-16 driver
Didn't realize that yoga pants were acceptable turnout gear. That'll improve morale in the firehouse.
where can i volunteer?
yeah, it makes the hoses bigger
Those are recreational campers, probably owned by people that have money, white trailer trash jokes are so over. F16 maybe National Guard "gas it up and go" pilot
OK - not to be conspiratorial (hey, this is ZH) but something doersn't look right about the first large picture. The one with the engine nozzle resting against the side of a trailer. How does that happen? No damage to the trailer? The BBQ is still in place and upright? Moved there?
"Dayum, Cletus, ah told ya to clean up the camp after ya go scrappin'! Now ah gots to cook them all-meat hot dawgs fo' the chillun!"
They make wonderful smokers... especially whole hog.
Yeah, it had to have been moved there.
Dude in the trailer is gettin' his tax refund in scrap metal this year.
yes, that is odd. not a scratch on the camper
I was wondering the same thing, that caravan is just riveted aluminum, just a little thicker than a can. And that hot-section must weigh a ton. But at least they got the afterburner in the right place for a BBQ.
"That guy's" name is SANCHO.
He'll drink all of your beer, too...
Those are probably campers used by hunters and fisherman. Lots of both in that area. Many hunters leave their campers there year round.
Ha he can have her...
This wouldn't have happened with an F-35. By that I mean the ejector seat would have malfunctioned.
You're assuming they could get it airborne.
They use catapults I've heard.
"They use catapults I've heard."
No, no, they use trebuchets now! They're all next-gen and shit...
For some inexplicable reason, the Cessna pilot did not eject.
1) Cessna pilot was black
2) F-16 had "Confederate" flag painted on it
"According to RT...." will someone give me a f*&jing break here
This just in. Govenor Nikki Haley just announced that as part of her administration's ongoing modernization program, which includes taking down the Confederate flag from atop the Capital and finally surrending to Federal forces under Ulysses S. Grant, she is embarking on a multi-million dollar program to modernize South Carolina's airports with the new technology called radar.
Govenor Haley said that Big Business both inside and outside the state of South Carolina have plainly spoken and we have listened. "They don't like the Confederate Flag, they LOVE gays and they want their motherfucking radar on their planes and the airport. And we here in government stand ready to assist the only constituency that matters anymore."
Holy crap. Know some guys who are in the fighting 55th.
Want to talk about nice, their fighter squardron is sweet. Even has its own bar (with memorabilia) looking out at the flightline.
Hate to hear this kind of news as alot of innocents could be hurt.
? is right. How does that big of a piece of plane cozy on up to a shitty tinfoil trailer without making a scratch?
casualty of war
Old hunting grounds, the pilot will be eaten alive by the fucking mosquitos before they can rescue him.
It's a lie I tell you, no F16's were involved.
As a kid, we would go fish the canal every spring for the shad. Hell of a lot of fun. There were plenty of people there who would clean the fish, give us the roe and keep the shad (too bony for someone used to eating bream and bass).
Somebody was in the wrong airspace and I'm kind of betting on the F-16. The Pehtagon will look like a tap dancer on meth since they've had a lot of oopsies lately......
And Jade Helm comes next. How many accidents with it?
Interesting that an advanced fighter jet cannot avoid hitting civilian traffic.
Maybe this is considered interacting with the civilian population.
There are restrictions on low altitude flight in civilian airspace because of just this kind of problem. The military throws a shit fit if you get anywhere near theirs.....
Hard to say yet. There is a bombing range more or less between there and Shaw. I don't know what (if any) altitude limits are in that area. I do know that I have seen A10s and F16s just above the tree tops north of where this happened. Normally an awsome sight.
It is unknown how many people were on board the Cessna, or whether they survived.
My guess would be no, they did not survive.
Crashes at a few hundred miles per hour without ejection seats tend to be like that, unless the plane was only partially damaged and they were able to pull off a crash landing. Unlikely, but stranger things have happened, and the F16 pilot did have time to eject, so its not clear what part of what plane collided with what.
But yeah, I expect no survivors in the Cessna.
Have they searched the rest of the trailer park?
They may just find the cessana occupants leaning up against the wall of a double-wide staring at the steaks onthe weber with a cold beer in each hand. Probably have cards in their wallets stating "I am not a bankster or an employee of a secret branch of the USSA."
What I find the most interesting about this story is Larry Silverstein insured that Cessna and occupants for a billion dollars just last week. I don't know how the guy does it!
With no ejection seats being available on the Cessna model, I think your guess would be accrate.
How convenient that the pilot ejects and survives (meaning he knew it was coming)?!?
I wonder if there was perhaps somebody that the government didn't like on that plane...or maybe I'm just a fringe conspiracy theorist.
Typical government wastefulness - nail guns are MUCH cheaper.
Yes, attorneys are rushing to the scene as we blog.
Unlike the F-16, no ejector seats in the Cessna. So probably dead.
patriot act?????
Just think about it.
Collateral damage. We will be seeing a lot more of it in the near future.
Now help me out here.... Was this caused by racism or global warming?
Homophobia.
You are way off. We all know Bush caused it.
the confederate flag.
Gay marriage.
Our tax dollars at work.
Your great grandchildren's tax dollars at work.
There, fixed that for you.
With the so called technological sensors, where everything around it including enemy missiles and fighters is known, how a fighter could hit a Cessna is beyond me unless the advertising of these fighters is false.
Well, when two objects try to occupy the same space at the same time...
F-16s are an old plane, and it may not be TCAS equipped, and the Cessna could have had transponder issues.
But it's a clear day, and see and avoid is the rule. Obviously someone fucked that up.
F 16 pilot was texting?
Sexting. A dick pic pulling 9-Gs.
My dick pulled almost 150 kilos once; not proud of that. Had a cute face though.
How much flour did you have to use?
it is unknown because no one has access to a flight plan?
2 souls max in the Cessna 150.
+2 Mexicans in the undercarriage. I swear they're worse than Mynocks anymore.
That's unfortunate and very sad. Anyone on the Cessna is almost surely dead. I'm interested in hearing what the pilot of the F16 has to say and what the hell went wrong for such a tragedy to occur.
Worst part - the pilot of the F16 (being the only survivor) will get to set the narrative
I highly doubt we'll hear one word from the pilot of the F16 - hell, I'd be shocked if we even get to know his name.
That's true...We may never hear anything from him or about him.
I'm interested in hearing what the pilot of the F16 has to say and what the hell went wrong for such a tragedy to occur.
F16 pilot: "I was afraid for my life, I thought the Cessna pilot had weapons lock on me, he had what appeared to be a MANPAD in his hands (but was a Thermos of coffee). So it's all good, really. If you look closely, you'll see the majority of the F16 wreckage landed on a dog house.
US miltary attacking civilians. Tell me it ain't so.
Doesn't a cesna and an F-16 fly on a tottaly different altitude?
Depends on what they are doing and where they are. Either pilot may have been outside of where they were supposed to be. They both start on the ground and return to the ground.
"They both start on the ground and return to the ground."
The F16 would have had a business returning to the ground if in sight of a military base. If there is not one in these parts, why would it have flown so low?
Charleston International Airport shares a runway with an Air Force base that runs north to south.
So there is that.
Several years ago I was going to New Orleans Intl airport to catch a flight and I was traveling south on the road that parallels the north/south runway. I looked up and saw an F-16 attempting to land to the north. When it was about 100 feet off the runway, the pilot realised he was at the wrong airport and goosed it to get out in a hurry. He was obviously looking for Alvin Callender Field some 30 miles or so to the southeast. I guess that an airport full of commercial aircraft was a clue!
No. The F-16 can fly higher, but they both take off and land from the ground. Odds are the F-16 was probably doing some low-level work and the C-150 was just flying normally.
I used to own/fly a C-150 and transitioned through the local AFB's airspace routinely. How a F-16 could miss a cessna floors me, but I will say they close on you very quickly. From both a practical and legal perspective, this will all be on the F-16 unless it was a hot MOA, and given where the crash happened, I sincerely doubt that was the case; the F-16 has much better visibility and manuverability, and the general rule is the slower, less maneuverable aircraft has the right of way.
This is likely a career-ender for the F-16 pilot (and a life-ender for the C-150.) Perfectly clear day it appears.
Civilian aircraft can fly VFR through an active military airspace MOA (not recommended).
I blame Russia
My guess is the F-16 was chasing a Russian Bear bomber flying over Lindsey Graham's bathhouse.
Was the Cessna operated by the FBI?
Notice the jet engine? leaning on the trailer without even a dent in the sheet metal.
Is this a subliminal message that rednecks trailer trash who fly Confederate flags are going down?
It is kind of odd that the engine ended up there without taking out the grill or gouging the ground. Looks a little like the Pentagon backyard, huh?
Just some redneck going to build a hot rod. Future Darwin award winner.
Oddly the Sourthern whites who cheer on SEC/NCAA Trayvon thug knock out ball deserve the Darwin Award. Idiots cheering trayvons at Clemson, tulane, Alabama, GA Dawgs, Texas A&M and doznes of other idiot places.
Whites are stupid. Cheering Knock Out Game thugs playing ball. retards.
speaking of knockout - a couple sick random shootings killing each one white woman - LA @ Hollywood & Highland, SF @ Pier 14, both popular "safe" areas.... the LA one 5 July Sunday, 10pm, shooter targets the female and doesn't bother the boyfriend....SF - gun is found to be last in custody of federal agent, Sen. Feinstein is throwing it at Sheriff Mirkarimi (crazy background there, local sfpd did NOT want him as sheriff, had him played with a phony dv with his wife....somehow he made it into the uniform) ...this will be the end of him, some say, letting the 5-time illegal go on April 15th ... SF law to NOT follow ICE paperwork .... anyways, chilling fear into the populace....
Those die should have been snake eyes. (Same odds as double fives).
Why did the jet not disintegrate like the one that hit the Pentagon on 9-11?!
Tuco
20 bucks it was an A.N.G. pilot.
It's already determined it wasn't the ANG, it was from a nearby air force base. Next question is -- was it a USAF pilot or a foreign trainee?
I stand ejected
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_Fighter_Wing
Is this real world or exercise, by the way?
ISIS trainee. This is Lindsey Graham's state and he an McCain run ISIS.
Who is that firefighter with the roll of tape?
Bad chips in the F-16? Where are they made, Pakistan?
Jet fuel can't melt aluminum campers!
It could, of course, melt the shit out of aluminum
http://www.wikihow.com/Melt-Aluminum
Larry Silverstein said it will.

"pull it!"
Larry
Anyone else notice the young female in yoga pants wearing a fire helmet?
That part of SC is rural with a capital R. Mostly volunteer FDs. You respond with what you're wearing.
that's one way to do hot yoga
<rimshot>
Link?
After Shanksville, I thought plane crashes didn't leave debris.
To the kin of the people killed in the Cessna. Don't worry, attorneys are on their way!
Wow, that piece of engine is leaning right up against the state capital building. Where's the flag?
WE decided to forego the income tax rates of a NY or NJ, so this is all SC could afford for a capital.
Do you guys really need to link to RT on a story like this?
Are you kidding? CNN would have the Cessna pilot as a domestic white raycist terrorist in a dog fight with the F16.
