For Those Already Missing Varoufakis, He Was Just Sighted In Athens...
While the new Greek Finmin Euclid Tsakalotos...
... is sweating to convince his peers at today's Brussels Eurogroup meeting, which was supposed to discuss the "latest" Greek proposal that the old, and rejected, Greek proposal is really Greece's best foot forward, a surprising development which will likely result in yet another very brief summit, his significantly more exciting, and polarizing, predecessor was just spotted in Athens having a far more enjoyable time.

Still can't get enough? The Guardian posted an excerpt from his upcoming book "The Global Minotaur: America, Europe and the Future of the Global Economy" discussing how "Europe’s surplus countries are trying to prop up the corpse of neoliberal capitalism." Read it here.

Hopefully for Euclid, he won't have to be dealing with that mob of snakes for much longer.
Come on ZH, you are better than that. This is shitty main stream journalism. That's an old picture which appeared in the Greek press months ago.
I wonder how much the EU pays for its catered muffins ? $250/per ?
The greek way? Getting some greater fool to pick up the bar tab?
Glad to hear it's an old photo, because my favorite theory is that he stepped down so he could spend all his time preparing for Grexit and new drachmas behind the scenes. Let Euclid waste his time in pointless summits, Varoufakis is too important to squander on ECB hypocrisy and bullshit when it's now clear Greece is leaving the Euro.
But that's probably wishful thinking on my part.
times in greece must truly be tough - even for the likes of vari.
i think that's a PBR he's drinking.
A bit like "It's impossible to enjoy idling thoroughly unless one has plenty of work to do."
Adds a new dimension to "La Dolce Vita".
... "YOUR DAMN RIGHT I ORDERED THE CODE RED. I DID MY JOB, AND I'D DO IT AGAIN"
- Col Jessup from the movie "A Few Good Men"
Down arrow for not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're".
tough crowd today
no shit Jessup said that. who the fucking else would?
The Spock-like trickster game theoretical stud with the visual artist babe samurai wife. Versus Euclid. Who wins? I put my money on the man most hated by the EU finance ministers, and the fomenter of the OIXE stare-in-the-face-of-death vote. He is fucking her 8-9 times a week and drinkign like Micket Rourke while the Euclid sits breathing the farts of Schäuble.
Who's the mature milf?
Do they have good beer in Greece?
Mythos....its good. Goes down well at the beach with some char grilled octopus for lunch.
What would you compare it to in the US? Please don't say Corona.
Kinda like Heineken...pale and refreshing.
Do they make it in cans or bottles? Heineken is all skunky because of the green bottles, same with corona, st. pauly girl...I can't stand the flavor of skunk.
A Greek beer will taste better drunk in a Greek taverna, with the murmur of the olive leaves overhead and the sound of the waves gently rubbing the countless cigarette butts deeper into the sand.
Both...I've had cans and bottles. They definitely do export to the US, so take a look around :)
I on the other hand, don't mind the Heineken bottles. Sure as hell beats that watered down thing they call beer - Pure Blonde. Not a fan, don't know how ppl drink that. Each to their own.
Old heineken is a punishing skunky experience, like most beer gone bad. Fresh heini, otoh, is an entirely different experience, like the wonder of fresh baked bread. When I discovered this, it changed my opinion entirely. The mass retailers like Walmart and Rite Aid seem to have advantaged relationships with distributers, at least here in Michigan, since they usually have the fresh-to-very fresh stuff, $11.99/12 pk, probably due to their quick turnover/volume It's my everyday "house beer," since you can't beat the price with any reasonably acceptable alternative. Skunk would get it a quick journey down the drain. It's all about where you buy it, how it was shipped and stored, and how old it is.
Not a recommendation of heineken as a great beer, just a compromise of quality and price. The price elasticity of my demand for beer is steep. Woe that I didn't have this philosophy earlier in life . . .
maybe a sam adams? maybe. mythos is legit. other good Greek beers are fix, alfa, vergina, zythos (rhodes)
Wilmington NC area has some nice beaches & bars and plenty of fresh fish, including octipus. Also has a big river (Cape Fear) and Intercoastal waterway.
All areas for very nice beach R&R.
NoVa
What I remember is that local beers were crisp lager types. Good for summer days and evenings and an ok way to get a buzz. Lots of euro imports but they could have been made locally under license.
Meh. Mythos is okay. I wouldn't choose it unless I were in Greece (God help me) or at a Greek restaurant.
Greece is a wine nation, not a beer nation.
Greece is an Ouzo nation.
They vote “No” and he still resigns, guess he was never really serious about cutting off that arm.
He's got real work to do preparing for Grexit and 'what next' rather than waste his time procrastinating with Eurocrat bankster puppets.
Beer makes everything better...
The first move made yesterday by Tsipras was to secure the resignation of Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis in order to facilitate discussions on debt repayment at today’s meeting of the Eurogroup finance ministers. Varoufakis was replaced by Euclid Tsakalotos, one of the many Syriza figures educated in the UK, first at St Paul’s public school, where Britain’s Conservative Chancellor George Osborne studied, and then at Oxford. The New York Times reported that a broader cabinet shake-up was coming, aimed at putting “a more centrist negotiating team in place.” Tsipras then held a six-hour meeting, chaired by Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, with the leaders of Syriza’s coalition partner, the right-wing Independent Greeks (Anel), and the three main pro-austerity parties—New Democracy, PASOK and To Potami. The meeting produced a joint statement issued by Pavlopoulos’s office that dropped previous calls for a debt write-down, pleading only for a “commitment [from the EU] to the launch of a substantial discussion as regards tackling the problem of the sustainability of Greek public debt.”

from yesterday
pictures don't lie
Varoufakis is a "glass is empty" sort :)
Frugal lifestyle my ass.
Also, call me petty, but Danae looks like shit without her retired Playboy model makeup on.
I'm surprised the pissed off Greeks let him relax around them without saying anything.
'Fakis was obviously never trying to really do anything else than dissemble and obfuscate while he 'secretly' did his bankster overlords' busineess and helped screw the nation EVEN MORE.
How could he present himself with his anti-Europe / anti-austerity platform, then do nothing of the sort (except for BS incoherent sound bites, from time to time), then have a last minute referendum that CONFIRMS that people want out of the banksters' odious debts, only to then fucking QUIT?
Anyhow, I bet that fucking 'Fakis will find out that there is a high price to pay, socially, for being a rotten banksters' front man. Evidently, he won't feel that when he is in one of their gated communities, but outside of those, he is largely despised, and people WILL make him feel it, whenever they can.
He'll blame the capitalists for having him fired and all will be forgiven. That's how socialists roll. His new edition of Global Minotaur will be the pride and joy of low-info lefties from Austin to Sydney, who'll turn out in droves to his lectures to listen to him say what they want to hear and drool for his cock.
He'll be fine. Consequences are for proles.
Socialist....blah, blah, blah...capitalists, blah, blah, blah...unfunny homosexual insult...blah, blah, blah proles.
Have you ever sat at the adult table anywhere in your life?
I actually had in mind straight women---my wife, who ought to know better, freely admits to me she finds him gorgeous, and was most put out to hear he'd resigned.
Fortunately I can count on her to wait for the city library to buy Global Minotaur for us.
I am sure you look incredibly handsome in every photo ever taken of you. However I'd bet $1 that Danae looks better than any woman who would hang out with the likes of you without being paid cash up front.
Yanis is better off not having to waste his time listening to lectures from cunts such as Schauble.
Varoufakis probably has another job lined up already. The financial shcemers are never really idle just like interest never sleeps.
Looks like the guy only has ONE SHIRT.
One shirt, he's only got one shirt, he's only got one shirt, he's only got one shirt.
One shirt......
Maybe he liked the shirt so well that he bought multiples of it? Or it was the KMart Blue Light special & he nabbed them all??
Picture is old as fuck
Neoliberal capitalism? What the fuck is that, and where the fuck in Europe do you think they have anything resembling what those words actually mean?
Varoufakis is the one actually running Greece. He resigned because he knows Greece will collapse within days and he doesn´t want to go into history as the "Minister of Collapse". Varoufakis resigned using the "Seinfeld Tactic", shown in this video:
http://www.atlanticperspective.com/home/-varoufakis-quits-using-a-seinfeld-tactic
No. The one running Greece is Betty Batziana, Tsipras' partner and Lady MacBeth. She's the real bolshie in the relationship. Greece descended into chaos at about the pace you'd expect from any country, were it run by a batshit pissed off radfem womyn. Ending talks and calling the vote was Betty's idea.
Her mangina Alexis is a dumb jock with no ideas of his own. His only goal is staying in power and keeping Betty happy. His MO is figuring out what Betty wants done and doing it, no matter how insane it is.
(I guess she's better looking than Danae Stratou, but no piece of ass is worth destroying a country. You'd think a Greek would have learned from the Helen of Troy thing. Guess not.)
Varoufakis talked too much. All he managed to do with his lectures was convince the Germans that Greece was going to stiff them and it was time to pull the plug.
Low-info Greek voters loved it, of course---enough that he was becoming popular enough to pose a real threat to Batshit Betty's becoming Big Sister. Admitting his plans to bring back the drachma was the last straw.
So what? It's still funny: Both the picture and the video.
I think he is not going to be doing the speech circut.....he failed....but he will sit on the sidelines as Greece tanks..and say..see..I told you so....
Varoufakis now has a long, bright career ahead of him. I wish him well.
Agreed. That guy is beyond 'cool'.
He'll be fine.
I'd rather wish good luck to Greeks who can't run away when they fuck up, and are now completely in the power of Batshit Betty Batziana and her mangina Alexis for the next few weeks of chaos till the army or Golden Dawn finally let them have it, and another ten years of real austerity while they re-learn the ancient art of living within their means. They'll need it all.
To each according to his needs, as it were.
He is drinking German beer. LOL
Yeah so the cabal of Troika and Corrupt Politicians see fit to Preserve the Ponzi. That's TREASON, punishment DEATH.
Zero Tolerance End Game Now.
Nice move by the Greek PM. This is tag-team wrestling, with ET playing the "face" and VF playing the "heel" on the Greek team.
VF had a mighty round, then ET tapped in and now its his turn. The Bureaucrazies in Brussels (h/t Steve Keen) are still butt-hurt from that referendum body slam.
I'm surprised at how many here don't recognize the Greek's clever tactics. But then, remembering how many here were convinced Syriza would fold, I shouldn't be surprised.
There seems to be this tacit assumption here that VF won't return to the ring, that he's left the stadium for good. Wrong, children, wrong. Watch and learn.
Success or failure? Not a simple question, I think. Unless someone knows for a fact what the Greek government's real objectives were/are, as well as Varoufakis' personal objectives, I don't believe the question is answerable. And no one here knows all that, so they base opinions on what they imagine achievable success was, is, or should be. Meanwhile Varoufakis is probably having a good time and laughing at the rubes.
ahh.....let the fools pretend the Euro is fine. We have plans in place. Putin will be drinking with me after the BRICS summit. hahaha.
The Greek way.. having beer while waiting for the Pension Pay Day.
