Crisis Investing Visualized

Tyler Durden's picture

History does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes. This could not be truer for crisis investing. Between China’s stock market and the debt troubles of Greece and Puerto Rico, it is clear that we could be entering a time of potential financial crisis. Every situation is unique, but generally the types of asset classes that protect investors in times of crisis are not necessarily the same as those during a bull run. Therefore, it’s worth taking a look at five previous periods of distress to see the returns of conventional and alternative asset classes.

Over half the stocks halted. So if a Chinese investor is walking in the woods by himself and gets a margin call on his cell phone, do his screams still make a sound?

All this tells me is that it's better to buy at the bottom than to try to time the top.

I agree; however, picking a bottom is just as difficult.

Although once something goes to zero, one can rest assured it's done falling. Unless it's sovereign bond yields. But that's another discussion.

The last several crises have begun to expose the inherent flaws in our debt-driven economy and dangerously leveraged banking system...

...and gold picks up more velocity with each new plunge.

This next collapse may be the one to really light it up. How long can TPTB fight off the big one...? Maybe a while, but hyperinflation is the ONLY answer to endless expansion of the money supply.
