Nationwide Computer "Glitch" Grounds All United Airlines Flights
Seems like 'glitches' are becoming a little too common...
- *UNITED AIRLINES U.S. FLIGHTS GROUNDED, FAA SAYS IN NOTICE
- *FAA CITES 'AUTOMATION ISSUES' IN UNITED AIRLINES STOPPAGE
As Bloomberg reports,
United Airlines grounded all U.S. flights amid a computer fault, the second such setback for the carrier in less than six weeks.
“Automation issues” triggered the move, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday. United suffered a similar incident on June 2.

Sounds more like Schuable said no debt for United
This interconnected world is evil incarnate.
Just wait til the whole national power grid goes down due to a computer glitch.
Cell phones won't work cause the towers lose power
Land line phones won't work cause they're not the old battery backed up POTS anymore
No internet (OMG!)
Traffic jams everywhere
No gas cause no working pumps.
Should be fun, huh.
United running on ZH servers?
My bad.
I should be very careful what I ask for!
Yet more proof that capitalism needs regulation. If the IT department at this company had been forced to undergo a comprehensive audit this would never have happened. Liberals keep warning about these risks, but nobody ever listens.
we are under atack by the chineese...HALT!
.
I'll ride my bike the 6 miles to the hospital.
There's ALWAYS sick people. (back-up generators)
Continental was a really good airline and merged with United (the worst airline) and of course it brought the combined company down to the low level of United.
UN-TIED again? Fly the friendly skies??
Quick...blame ISIS or Putin!
Now rush in new national security laws that take away those last few freedoms.
China often gets blamed for computer hacks.
Maybe rightly so. Could this be some payback for US hedgies grabbing their Greek money out of China....if you can't sell what you want, you sell what you can?
...and Russia, and NORKs. Long straw.
you'd think that if the chinese were so smart that they could hack any u.s. security system, they'd have figured out how to rig their markets to keep them from crashing. sheesh
Ever since the obamacare website was "launched", anything computer related that doesn't work right has a "glitch". I really hate that word because it reminds me of that shitbag.
You can only outsource so much.
Very true, you really get what you pay for. And this word! It's become such a crutch, why can't people just actually say something like "Our screens just went dark and we really have no fucking clue as to why."
Because that would make them sound stupid, incompetent and unprofessional. Basically just reaffirming what we thought of them in the 1st place.
Cheap way of saving money on fuel and filling planes. If you've got half a day of nearly empty planes and they are all going the same place, you declare a computer glitch to get all the bodies on one plane instead of five planes then recoup savings by grounding four.
Everything is a street hustlers shell game. Everything.
Yeah, plumbing problems don't make it with planes so much.
That's actually brilliant...... But from my experience when planes get grounded the airline tries to get the people onto other airlines.
Yeah, in a tight market you don't want to leverage arbitrage too much and give away your cheddar. Therefore, 'computer glitch'. Believe me when I say this, working on those systems in my career they are so overly redundant and over serviced downtime is counted in microseconds.
What's amazing is this is one of the benefits of the new products I've seen rolling around, AI's determining cost savings and efficiency planning they do an amazing job at gap analysis. Next gen AI after these ones will replace entire governments, since it'll be AI cross collaborating between governments, there just won't be a need for any type of people except those that do physical work like repairs. Eventually though even those tasks will be automated. We're at the point they program themselves now. Since AI's collaborate better than people that run with an agenda, there just won't be any need for war or ownership or companies or governments. The AI will provide and make determinations on best case delivery as efficiently as possible.
Because that's the only possible solution to a "one world government". Remove all the people and replace the support system with a superior mesh system that's been designed to be fail safe, barring any horrible planetary accident. Eventually even the people will not be required. Just facsimiles of past avatars being recycled...like an Obama AI, or a Vlad AI, or a Merkel AI, or a Hillary AI.
Maybe they just need to unplug it and wait ten seconds? Did they try that?
That approach works very well in the produce section of the grocery store, when the new scales running Windows CE crap out and help is miles away.
All of the major airlines, with the possible exception of Southwest, are accidents waiting to happen. All of the commuters should be avoided. I fly Southwest nationally, and western European airlines on international trips.
I don't fucking fly.
Yeah… it’s no fun AT ALL now that they crash ’em into mountains, skyscrapers, oceans, etc.
Southwest is the worst fucking airline in this country.
I would not fly these shitbags unless I absolutely had no choice.
and who is better besides hawaiian airlines.
Ruh oh! Que the next false flag.
Chinese/Russian hackers having a bit of fun no doubt. Testing the American systems.
Get used to it, this is the future of mischief/warfare.
Tit for tat, US (and/or Europe) will be playing games with China/Russia as well (but of course it won't be reported in our media).
Good, fuck United.
Exactly, fuck United and the airline industry in general until they remove the useless TSA. Put back sensible security measures and stop the thievery taking place in baggage by those thugs.
Darn Chinese hackers again!!
Obama will do nothing. He's too busy golfing and race baiting.
Maybe he's busy letting the Wookie win at bingo
Those damn pesky Russians!

German missile battery receives orders from… unknown ‘hackers’
The German Patriot air and missile defense systems, stationed at the Turkish border with Syria, have carried out “unexplained” commands allegedly issued by unknown hackers.
The US-produced missile systems, belonging to the German Bundeswehr armed forces and based on the territory of NATO ally Turkey since 2013, have been compromised, according to a report in the German Behörden Spiegel.

Some IT guy somewhere is having a really bad day.
Some IT managers somewhere are having a really bad day.
This is NOT news it is one of the scheduled distractions a la mode.
All those H1-B coders they really are horrible.
The surprise is that it does not happen more often.
Most modern corporate software is cobbled together by contract labor from India, or even written there.
The development cycle has zero to do with reality and is created and then driven by some PM (program manager) who would not know a bit from a byte.
Seems like the "glitch" is spreading, even zerohedge was grounded this morning.
Aahhh I can feel the hatred flowing one again.
I was This >< Close to going into withdrawals
So whose on the Incompetent, despicable, contemptible Loathsome list today?

i know of three people who, in the last three weeks, missed connections because of mechanical issues. considering all of us were flying to the same destination, those three, on three seperate flights, represents everyone who chose united airlines.
looks like monopoly pricing and customer service power has infected the airline industry. they are like the cable company now with their "you have no choice so fuck you" customer service. the maintenance issues are a bit unnerving, however.
The internet has been lagging and slow in many areas lately. I'd speculate that there's a major cyber war under way. Various nations are battling each other with a number of small groups and individuals joining in to wreak havoc where they can. Luckily, the internet is still useable, but that may only be due to that fact that the NSA needs to collect its data.
It's running Winblows!
... no wonder, it has 'United' in its name ... ;)
... but, at least it stayed on the ground and no one got hurt ...
... here's a more serious threat (if it's true ...) >>> "German missile battery receives orders from… unknown ‘hackers’ – report" >>> http://rt.com/news/272275-german-patriot-missiles-hackers/
I fly for a major airline. Much life everything else in the US, everything has become centralized in a massive, central, command center. A steady stream of information is sent to each aircraft which authorizes everything. Approaching "pushback" (Depature so called "D") we start getting messages at "D" minus so many minutes (D-7, D-5, D-3). These messages have our weight, passenger count, power for takeoff, winds, which runway, known mechanical issues, fuel load, current field conditions, flight plan updates, flight plan verification information, etc. Essentially, they are the legal "release" or "authorization" for us to leave the gate. Without anyone of them, we legally, cannot leave the gate. In the past this was done by landline and printers, and before that by blanket releases. But now, with the world spanning computer grid, it is all done just in time and electronically.
And if it quits, for any reasons, the captain cannot leave the gate. The government, press, lawyers and passengers would delight in burning him at the stake if he did. The cell phones would come out and CNN would be carrying the story of the pirate captain, criminally, recklessly, endangering the lives of his passengers by knowingly violating the law.
So, the planes sit.
Very frustrating for the ex-fighter pilot in the left seat with his hand on the parking brake.
But let's hand over all the vehicle driving to Google.
Now you know where the executives get the big bucks; not paying for backup systems.
