The Charleston church shooting flooded newsrooms around the world. Did the killer act alone? How much did he really hate black people? Should we burn every Confederate flag in the country? When will another racist strike next? Stay tuned for more! After reading this, one would assume there was an evil Confederate in every town, ready to open fire on every family in America. The reality is much different. The greatest danger to the average American is the cheeseburger they ate for dinner last night.
The best visual example of the state of the media is the recent Jake Gyllenhaal movie Nightcrawler, which documents his character's freelance career as a journalist who records grisly footage of violent crimes and accidents. His boss advises him, "Think of our newscast as a screaming woman running down the street with her throat cut." One quick glance at any major news source today, and one quickly discovers this is not an exaggeration. One study from the American Public Health Association found that some homicides were more newsworthy than others. The best murders for the news involve victims who are female, children, or the elderly. Top locations are in wealthy neighborhoods. Conversely, black and hispanic victims are not as exciting, apparently. A young white woman who is murdered in Beverly Hills will be all over every newsroom in the country, but a black man who got shot up in Compton might make a footnote in the LA Times if he's lucky.
Aside from the grotesque moral issue of masquerading journalists using violent crime as vile entertainment, an even greater tragedy is unfolding: the inability of Americans to properly assess risk in daily life. The pandering to our lower instincts via the tabloid journalism format has left a shocking void of real information and understanding. One popular statistical website, Five Thirty Eight, has provided a refreshing source of analysis in the otherwise mathematically oblivious journalism industry. Yet even Five Thirty Eight occasionally succumbs to a generally irrelevant story selection process with articles about lottery odds and sports instead of focusing more on science, economics, and politics. The average American knows more about LeBron James than the most common ways they could die. This is a failure of the journalism industry.
While you may never see a story about some random fat person dying from heart disease, that is actually the most likely way for an American to die. Second place is cancer. Nothing else even comes close to these two causes. Confederate racists, rogue policemen, terrorists, white thugs, black thugs, car accidents, airplane crashes, earthquakes, tsunamis, heat waves, blizzards, tornadoes, whatever you happen to be afraid of - it doesn't come close to the danger of being fat and dying of heart disease. It's such a huge factor, there's even an investment strategy for it.
If the media wants to continue their daily death tolls, the responsible thing to do would be to discuss how many people died of heart disease at the end of every broadcast. Every day, 1,674 people die from heart disease. That's the equivalent of three 747 airplane crashes every single day. In 2013, 611,105 people died from heart disease, which is more than the 407,000 Americans who died in World War II. Unlike other ways to die, heart disease is preventable 90% of the time. Yet instead of worrying about how to stop being such a fatass, Americans are more concerned about Confederate flags, gun control, police brutality, and ISIS. This is not a commentary on the validity of those issues. It's just a numerical analysis on the fact that Americans are avoiding the elephant in the room - which happens to be themselves.

In America, you're more likely to kill yourself than be murdered. Suicide is the tenth most common way to die, and it outnumbers homicides by more than 2 to 1.

At least the mass media does a good job of portraying law enforcement. That's right, I've seen the dozens of cop shows on Murican TEEVEE and what I've learned is that every cop looks like a stripper or an underware model. Yes they are all equally fit, intellegent and they have sex with each other often. And they can solve ANY crime just by thinking hard while staring intently into space. Plus they can easily coerce tearful confessions from even the most hardened criminals while dramatic music plays in the background. Those TEEVEE cops are magic!
And yes, I also get information about politicians, fire fighters and other government employees from Murican TEEVEE too.

This statement is fucking nonsense. The author should do some reading, starting with the study they referenced. I get the author's point about priorities, but being a blowhard doesn't convince people to educate themselves about their health. Referring to people as fatasses is not motivational, not to mention, many people who have heart attacks are not overweight. Same with diabetes.
Genetics, bitchez! You can't pick your parents, so you have to figure out what you can do to mitigate risks. Easier said than done.
It is not the cheeseburger itself, but what such a lifestyle implies. Genetics is definitely is the primary determining factor of overall health, but again, good genes denotes intelligent, which means taking care of one's body. Even a person with the best genes can become overweight and fall victim to numerous diet related illnesses such as diabetes.
Not to get technical, but it's really the bread in the cheeseburger that is causing the heart attacks. Just trying to do my part to reduce ignorance.

By the way, of all of those who died of heart disease, how many were "fat", how many were "skinny"? And who decides which is which - the government? Made myself laugh at that one!
Fact: the biggest statistical indicator of who will commit suicide is the presence of a gun in the house. Is suicide the ultimate expression of free will, or is this a glaring public health risk that should be addressed?

You need to check your "facts", then. SSRIs are a large, if not the largest factor in suicides (`65%), as well as mass murders (~100%). And the largest increase in suicide rates was by hanging/suffocation. According to your "logic", then, we should outlaw rope and plastic bags. And never forget- the #1 cause of death in the USA is doctors. Ban Doctors!

Human systems are one of the most astonishing manifestations of general energy systems, due to the ways that those operate according to the principles and methods of organized crime, which includes the ways that the core of organized crime controlled its apparent opposition. While the mainstream mass media news does nothing but promote the same old huge lies, and continues to LIE BY OMISSION as much as possible, most of the relatively intelligent articles and comments published on Zero Hedge are about revealing some of the relatively superficial ways in which the political economy is controlled by the international bankers, as the biggest gangsters, or the banksters. However, that superficial analysis (despite being far superior to the lack of analysis in the mass media) then continues to still be followed by bogus "solutions," which continue to be based upon the same old-fashioned false fundamental dichotomies and related impossible ideals.
For several decades I have been developing my theoretical models regarding the relationships between natural selection systems and artificial selection systems, while for a couple of years I have been posting comments on Zero Hedge that are based on perceiving political problems from that perspective. Apart from the occasional comments that someone appreciated by writing, or others who complained that my comments were too long, there is has practically never been any substantial reply to my material. Throughout the time that I have been posting my comments on Zero Hedge, I have mostly thought that was a waste of time to bother to do.
OVERALL, NOTHING IS GOING TO WORK. It is politically impossible to implement any adequate "reforms." The only things which can actually happen are that the established systems have to cause their own mad psychotic breakdowns, as the only ways that those systems could be driven through enough "revolutionary" transformations. However, at the present time, it is not at all clear whether civilization is going to survive through doing that to itself. We are actually already inside of social situations where the debt slavery, backed by wars based on deceits, have created conditions where there are debt insanities, and those are already matched by the kinds of death insanities indicated in the charts featured in the article above. There is no reasonable doubt that those statistical patterns are going to continue to get worse, faster.
There are no politically possible ways to prevent that, primarily because of the degree to which the established core of organized crime also controls all of the publicly significant "opposition" to the established systems. As I said, that is the way that the "legalize marijuana" movements have devolved, from being based on more radical hemp truth, to being based upon practical compromises with the old huge lies. Furthermore, those same patterns repeat fractally, again and again, everywhere else one looks. In the case of the problems that we have with our political economy being controlled by the banksters, the bogus "solutions" to those problems presented on Zero Hedge tend to always mostly be based upon compromising with the banksters huge lies, rather than based upon more radical truths.
The overall results are that our society is already too terminally sick and insane to recover. There are not allowed to be adequate reforms. There can only be driven to develop more severe social storms and psychotic breakdowns, which will manifest even much worse forms of death insanities than those which already exist. The only genuinely realistic resolutions to our real problems would necessarily have to be to develop better death control systems. However, that is politically impossible, since we are stuck deep in the vicious ruts dug by the core of organized crime controlling its apparent opposition.
THE MASS MEDIA ARE DELIBERATELY LYING BY OMISSION ABOUT EVERYTHING, IN PROPORTION TO HOW IMPORTANT THOSE THINGS ARE. The underlying problems are that money is measurement backed by murder, which facts are as deliberately ignored and denied as much as possible both by those that control those systems, as well as those who are controlled to be the apparent public "opposition" to those existing systems. Meanwhile, the deeper problems continue to be that we can not develop more scientific death controls, due to the existing systems social successfulness have been selected to develop on the basis of having been done in the most deceitful and treacherous ways, while those ways of being the most socially successful also then resulted in there being nothing else which was publicly significant than the controlled opposition groups that surrounded that core of triumphant organized crime. Therefore, virtually all of the apparent opposition to the banksters, (and their kinds of sociopolitical systems, such as those which maximize the Profit From Disease and Profit From Junk Foods, in ways whereby those profits are privatized, while the losses are socialized) continues to get worse, faster.
Those are the basic problems that we are facing. The mass media promote huge lies, while they LIE BY OMISSION. The alternative media tend to superficially reveal some of the social facts that the mass media tend to deliberately ignore, but usually only on more superficial levels, which is why the content in the alternative news media tends to always be about 90% good analysis of the problems, then followed by about 10% bogus "solutions." Ironically, those whose content is published on the alternative news media continue to superficially notice that, but not to more deeply understand that. One particularly ironic manifestation of that pattern was presented by Cognitive Dissonance, whose material was republished on Zero Hedge pointing out that: "The absolute best controlled opposition is one that doesn't know they are controlled."
