The direct and indirect costs of US political campaigning, as it is called, is probably 5% of Amurican GDP.
If the "campaigns" were six weeks long, several US TeeVee channels would have to shut down, and many children would go to bed hungry.
Definitely not saying Trump is great but one thing I have noticed is that the amount of bad press coverage that a candidate gets is directly relational to the level of dislike/fear that the MSM and political establishment have for that candidate. It is very clear that the establishment does not want Trump to succeed. What is also clear is that there are many here that take what the MSM spews out as factual. A shame really. The fact is that the MSM, the political establishment and TPTB do not want anyone even near a powerful political office that they have not fully vetted. Hence we end up with establishment force fed choices like Hitlery and Bush, etc. This is also the reason we have had three two term Presidents in a row. 'Better the devil you know.....'. "Current politics is best represented by a two headed dragon. Politicians pay lip service to opposing ideologies but both the Republican and Democratic parties are part of the same big government dragon body. The body is moving in one direction; bigger and more powerful government. More control over the electorate. Having the two parties serves a greater purpose though....it divides the populace (sheeple?) into two camps that are always at each others' throat. This tactic is called divide and conquer. You can be sure that Trump ius on top in that poll because the liberal MSM considers him to be unelectable. Therefore they want the rest of the sheeple conservatives to nominate him so that Hillary can crush him. The MSM is most concerned about Rand Pal and Ted Cruz. Why? Because they make sense and don't appear to be as "crazy" as "The Donald." This is why they ignored Ron Paul in '12.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of voting for Trump in this context: most people can't stand Trump (even dumbass Republicans), 'cos they know he is a blow-hard, a joke, a bad toupee-wearing wannabe and serial failure.
Yet when given the choice between Trump and Jeb Bush (or any other R blowhard trying to look legit, like F'ing Rand Paul), people will pick Trump, just to show how much they despise the rest.
You might watch a speech or two before bloviating. There is one on utube before the SC Freedom Summit at which the other usual candidates spoke. I can say it's the first time in my life I've witnessed a presidential contender at a public event say things like "I don't give a shit about lobbyists" or calling the Washington press corps "sleazebags". That's the stuff that gets crowds going. It ain't because they are picking Trump because they've thought through Jeb Bush. Trump gave a very populist speech.
I admit that my interpretation was but one of many possible ones, especially given how fake these polls are, how easily gamed, and how easily influenced the general public is.
Regardless, I think that Trump has been widely regarded as a buffoon for a long time. It is hard to shake that kind of image, and one flowery speech alone certainly isn't going to do it.
Like most controlled opposition figures, he has no consistency and I never see any bite follow his bark - but no matter what, the mainstream image he has been given is that of a clown. His rare attempts to escape that role are not very convincing.
