How the fuck is Jeb Bush in second place? I suppose name recognition is paramount at this early stage.

Jeb WAS in first place, with a commanding lead. Was. Just like Hillary was the undisputed front-runner for the Democratic nomination, before Bernie Sanders showed up and started filling 10,000 seat halls for his speeches.

The good news is that Hillary no longer needs to look behind her to see where Bernie is doing in the polls. The bad news is that they're now neck and neck. Words do not describe the pleasure I'm experiencing watching Hillary's campaign having to twist itself into knots as they attempt to fend off the Sanders insurgency, particularly when he rails against our insane trade policies and treaties like NAFTA. My face hurts from smiling...

A vote for Bernie Sanders is a vote for Israel, for homosexual marriage with adoption rights, for open borders and unlimited immigration, and for gun control

Philip Weiss on May 1, 2015, wrote on Mondoweiss: “I’ve seen no one apart from Juan Cole, in this excellent summary of Sander’s Middle East views, point out his yeoman defense of Israel during its assault on Gaza last summer. In July Sanders formed part of the ‘unanimous consent’ to a resolution to support Israel in its attack,  a resolution Salon’s David Palumbo-Liu said at the time ‘does more than confirm U.S. Senate support for Israel. It pushes that statement beyond any rational or ethical or moral framework imaginable.

“In a famous encounter at a town hall meeting in Vermont near the end of the onslaught, Sanders got so angry at pro-Palestinian constituents who were obviously deeply upset by an assault that had killed 500 Palestinian children that he told them to ‘shut up.’”

I do not know one supporter of Bush.

I don't believe these polls any more than I believe GDP, the unemployment rate, or the number of jobs created.

I am beginning to think their polls are only conducted on people with the last name Bush...

Then the results make just a bit more sense.

All things considered, could he really be any worse than the last few occupants of the office? He's no more a conservative that the prior 4 presidents, and while he's giving a voice to what was once called the 'silent majority' (and we all know how well Nixon did in the office), should he win his current supporters would be greatly disappointed. As with Boehner, et al.

That said, I really wanted him to run for and win the presidency in 2012. It's not that I wanted him president, but it would have been worth it to see him get inagurated, turn to Obama and say "You;'re FIRED!"

Alas, that never happened.

im sure im in the minority and while im not huge fan of the donald, i still contest the RESULTS of a trump presidency would be a helluva lot better than most (if not all others)

1. the dude can't be bought

2. he aint gonna lie; gonna tell you exactly whats on his mind cuz he doesn't give a shit - he aint looking to be "liked" as most all other politicians are (ie. hilary)

3. the shitty deal negotiations would end. he knows we have the bones to be a strong nation. we've just been depleted by decades of shit deals. he's all but said he'd try to unwind NAFTA & piss on the TPP. he knows china, japan, and mexico are killing us. china, japan are more about currency manipulation while mexico was more about bill clinton's "do whatever it takes" to get globalization online.

4. immigration. while trump does hit the throttle a bit too hard on this issue, he is on the right side of the story. hell, i didn't even know what the fuck a sanctuary city was until that poor girl got killed out in SF. that should NEVER happen. 7 felonies & 5 deportations and the guy said he went back to SF because he knew they wouldn't deport him. nuts.

5. the fed. the donald has been extremely outspoken about the bubbles we are blowing. im sure that shit would come to an end reagan/vocker style because trump wouldn't care about falling stock markets. he knows this is temporary until we hit the brick wall.

6. putin. i was stunned out how trump answered the russia question. while i expected him to be his brash self, he was thoughtful. said we HAVE TO re-establish our relationship with putin. i agree. our 2 countries need to find common ground. my take is no that putin is trying to walk the line of reaching out to us while still looking strong at home. i respect him for this because we have troops & tanks on his border & our navy near/in his waters. if russia had tanks in mexico/canada & destroyers off our coasts, it wouldn' (and shouldn't) sit well with american sentiment.

7. iraq/iran. trump on record in 2004 saying we should not go to war with iraq. said they served as a check to iran. they would fight for 5 years, stop for 5 years, rinse, repeat. doesn't wanna continue this endless carpet bombing campaign. doesn't believe in nation building.

JMO but the dude is worth somewhere $8billion-$10billion. again, i cud be dead wrong here but i think he knows he has more $$$ than he's ever gonna spend. i think he loves his country & just sees the direction we're going. like most ultra-wealthy, his biggest fear is the growing divide between rich & poor. he knows if we don't right the ship, its gonna turn into bain V batman in our streets. again, im not saying he doesn't like $$$, i just don't think he can be bought as a president. he must have known going into this thing A. he was a longshot to win and B. in saying what he was going to, that he was gonna piss off ALOT of people he does biz with (ie. univision, macy's). he's lost hundreds of millions of $$$ in deals and who know of future prospects he pissed off. all im saying is i think he knew that blow-back was coming and there was no guarantee he'd make president and get that $$$ back as a result.

Thu, 07/09/2015 - 14:24 | 6291175 i_call_you_my_base
i_call_you_my_base's picture

Firstly, he does not have $8-$10bln. He struggled a few years back to prove having $1bln, but that didn't stop him from trying to make that claim very aggressively. That's my point, he overstates his wealth because he thinks it's important and he makes it clear that it's very important to him. Someone like that can be bought because they define themselves through how much money they have. And the more he gets, the better he feels about himself. It's not about spending, it's about bragging and how he compares himeself to other rich people.

Honestly, I don't care that much, the president doesn't matter, but I don't like him, mostly because I don't think he's very bright and has some serious hang-ups when it comes to his ego.

Thu, 07/09/2015 - 14:33 | 6291222 aliki
aliki's picture

he says $9 billion, CNNMoney says $3.3 billion, Forbes i think has him $4.00-4.5 billion.

you are absolutely right about his ego. everytime he's on TV he's bragging about how much he has. as far as how bright he is, i see your vantage point. he is not thoughtful when speaking & just goes off the cuff. i think thats more about not wanting to seem scripted.

as for if he can be bought, IDK - i just don't see it. again, i see ur side of the arguement because to him, its not about the $$$, its about satisfying his ego and showing he has a bigger _____. i still do believe tho he'd want to do the right thing for the country and if some $$$ followed that, so-be-it. id have no problem with him making $$$ of it SO LONG AS it was the right decision unlike these other guys who make the decision based on the $$$. lets face it, any of these guys are going to make $$$ because of the office. IMO it comes down to is the result of the decision you made OR is it the reason you made your decision. i see trump as the former, hilary as the later. JMO.

Trump is just a judas goat, who will lead the disgusted GOP rank and file down the path towards Jeb & Rand. Too early for Jeb to come out, wait until this time next year before Team Jeb gives it their all. Trump is just waking up the GOP base, blowing all the hot-button dog whistle issues.

It's already all planned. Don't vote. It only encourages them. Sitting this one out if it comes down to Hilarity vs. Jethro.

Edit: I don't dislike the guy, and I like his plan spoken manner and the issues he's bringing up, but he won't go far with Jeb in the running. And who's advising him? Probably the same guy who's going to jump into Team Jeb when Trump decides he's had enough of being a tool for the GOP and goes I-Independent. I don't think Trump realizes it yet, but he's just being used to rally the base for Jeb.

Dog whistle implies that its something you can't overtly hear. That is not what Trump is doing at all. For once, someone is saying exactly what they mean and cutting through all of the politically correct bullshit.

Thu, 07/09/2015 - 14:56 | 6291365 large_wooden_badger
large_wooden_badger's picture

It's called an analogy. A dog whistle to a dog is something they can hear and will respond to, just like Trump's bringing up the ugly side of immigration is something the GOP base hears and will respond to. Sorry you missed that, I'll dumb it down a bit more next time, but not too much.

And while I can empathize with your sentiment, I can also see it's working on you. Just be aware that when the base is all fired up and ready to "do something", they'll swap Team Jethro (Jeb) via the GOP primary to water all that stuff down with empty promises. Doesn't matter who the next POTUS is, it's going to be amnesty for all. Thanks to your friendly neighborhood multicultural agenda at work in the Western hemisphere.

Thu, 07/09/2015 - 16:24 | 6291833 LoadedBakedPotato
LoadedBakedPotato's picture

That is not what dog whistle means within our current political climate. Dog whistle refers to saying something that will supposedly be interpreted below the radar to mean something else by the intended audience. For example, Bill Maher claimed that Gingrich's continual references to Obama having a Kenyan colonial ideology was code word for nigger. The left believes any use of the word "thug" is also a dog whistle for nigger.

What you are saying as "bring something up that the base will respond to" is referred to as a "bull horn" or "red meat." Its not that you need to dumb it down more - you need to just think before you write. Words have meaning. You used dog whistle incorrectly. Just own up to it and don't be a defensive little bitch.

Thu, 07/09/2015 - 16:43 | 6291949 large_wooden_badger
large_wooden_badger's picture

When you use a dog whistle the dog comes running. Trump speaks truth to illegal immigration and the GOP base comes running. It's called an analogy,

Taking your definitions of phrasing from the left and Bill Maher. I see the problem. Sorry, I'm not hip to the way they speak, and I'm fine with you being the defensive little bitch.

Thu, 07/09/2015 - 17:08 | 6292064 LoadedBakedPotato
LoadedBakedPotato's picture

Alright, I'm going to try and break this down for you.

Bill Maher did not call it a dog whistle. I am citing his statement as an example of what is referred to our political discourse as a dog whistle.

Another example is when Hillary says that our immigration policy is not about breaking families apart - that is a dog whistle to the latino community that she will not deport people. That is not intended for the rest of the country to hear, hence the term dog whistle since only her intended audience actually understands it - just like only a dog actually hears the whistle.

Trump is not trying to disguise his comments with intent that they be interpreted in any other way. So your analogy is completely wrong. Again - words have meaning. Your use of the term "dog whistle" in this context is completely wrong.

Mon, 07/13/2015 - 14:30 | 6307259 large_wooden_badger
large_wooden_badger's picture

You can break it down all you want, I made my own analogy using my own words to express my own ideas, despite whatever you would have as "our" political climate and the terms you accept as describing thus. Saul Alinsky would be proud of you hijacking the context of my statements over the use (or misuse, as you will!) of an adjective.

Put down "Rules for Radicals" and have a conversation about how the GOP will hang Trump up on a trident before they let him anywhere near winning the primary.

Or just vote for Hillaroid, your choice.

Trump is just a way to put positions out that the other candidates can't really get behind - it puts the topic out there, everyone talks about it regardless of the context. Do Americans really want wide open borders? People on the fence, so to speak, may think "Trump is a nut, but I don't like seeing Mexican heroin here in the midwest"...  Or the opposite, let him talk, then let a Repub point at him and say that he doesn't agree - kind of a win-win for those guys.

Adjust the squelch and put his message in a different package . . .he is the most realistic candidate on either side.  If Bernie Sanders was a billionaire and had a few TV reality shows, he would be the perfect enantiomer of Trump.

Trump has no Karl Rove or Huma Abedin or Sid Blumenthal pulling the strings.  Imagine that.

His message is thus:  We are getting weaker.  The bad players are capitalizing on our weakness, and they are getting stronger.  What are you going to do about it?  I think this is a legitamate message.

Thu, 07/09/2015 - 14:28 | 6291198 Mike Honcho

Say what you want about Trump, but the facts remain.....He tells the truth and can't be bought (hopefully). His popularity is soaring because most Americans share his concerns about the border being wide open and most still believe in the rule of law (unlike OBomber) and the constitution.

What would get me on board with Trump is if he would vow to rid DC of lobbyists and put an end to crony capitalism.  I don't see any of the others even coming close to that subject.

Hitlary would sell the statue of Liberty if someone gave a big enough donation to her foundation (personal slush fund).

Except for maybe Rand, all the others are just more of the same.

DemoCrooks and RepubliCONS.... vomit or diarrhea, take your pick and know that America still has the best politicians money can buy.
